Ok. So on my old phone (lg xenon) to get picture messages I didn't need data it would just receive it for me. But on my tilt 2 if I have my no data cab on where it doesn't let my data connection come on, it won't receive them. Any answers?
Enable data.
I know but do I have to?
Yes
I have ATT on a Tmobile Touch Pro2 just so i dont have to pay for data and if i want to send an MMS i need to goto the Disable Data App and toggle the MediaNET connection in order to send my MMS
So what about the thing where you're in the all gray inbox, and you click on the mms, and it sends you to blue and green inbox thing. Because you have to open it from there?
???
Sorry I have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe if u included a screenshot me or someone else would understand it a little better
Well there is like two different inbox layouts and one of them doesn't let you open the mms so it send you to the other layout

i've recieved some mms messages, where/how do you view the picture attachments?
When I open the MMS application on my phone and select the message I want to view, the left soft button is named 'objects'. Press it and the message is divided into audio, text, and image. Click on the image to view it. Click on the right soft button called 'menu' for the save option and/or assign to contact.

i don't get anything like that. i just get prompts to 'download' the message in mms (nothing seems to happen when i do), but also get a link as a text message to view on t-mobile website, which i can.
from memory...a few months ago a friend had the same situation and when she called T-mo support they said her account was not set up to receive MMS messages. I can't remember if she needed to subscribe to be able to download them to her phone. Like you said though, they were available on line on her account page - or, something like that.
I was curious about this upon seeing your message so I went to T-mo's website (did you?) and read the following:
"Why do I receive a link instead of the picture?
Before being able to receive a multimedia message, you must first send a picture message, which sets up your Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card on the network for picture messaging. This is referred to as provisioning. Please send a picture message before attempting to receive a picture message. For more information, go to Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS)."and this:"Users must use an MMS capable device and be provisioned within the Multimedia Messaging System Center (MMSC) to send/originate MMS messages. Users become self provisioned when an MMS message is originated and sent from the user's terminal. By sending an MMS message, T-Mobile auto-provisions users for both mobile originating and mobile terminating MMS messages."
I'd be interested to know if you send a MMS if you can then recieve them without adding any services to your account for extra $.

tried the above, still no joy. has anyone got a cab file to install t-mobile uk mms settings and necessary gprs etc settings?
Have you searched the forums for it? You have to know you are not the very first person looking for it. I found this. It says it's for wm2003 & wm5 devices but I'd still give it a try. I've been using the same cab file for USA Cingular/AT&T since back to wm5 for sure and even probably 2003 on several different devices, except the latest ROM has a network wizard built right in so it wasn't necessary this go round. I'm pointing you to that particular page 'cuz they have the settings for several different countries and it's a nice bread crumb to leave behind for anyone else who searches for the T-mobile gprs settings cab. Hopefully it's a good link and the cab file works for you.
BTW, I found my way to that by searching the XDA forums for "t-mobile UK gprs cab" (without the quotes) and the second result had a link to a link to the page. That's just the route I took. There are a full 10 pages of results, I'm sure the cab you desire is in there somewhere if the link I gave you doesn't work out.
From that search I did, the 9th result led to a "Call for Operator Settings for ALL NETWORKS" right here on XDA. Since you are looking for the MMS settings for T-mobile UK, you would be particularly interested in post 8 in that thread.
Hope one of the links gets you where you want to go.
T-Mobile MMS settings
Here is a page of MMS settings.
I have used the T-Mobile with good results

I just purchased a TP2 and completed the HardSPL and installed the EnergyROM. However I still can't get the picture messaging to work correctly. My previous phone was a unlocked Sony W810i which I'm able to send and receive MMS messages with no problem. I've tried to duplicate some of the settings from phone to phone but I haven't had good results. I din't want to spend the extra money for the data plan because the phone has WIFI built in. All I want to do is be able to send and receive MMS messages. Can anyone help? Thanks.......Jason

Hi! I too have a TP2 using for T-Mobile. I also don't have data plan, but I do have a unlimited messaging bundle. I'm using 6.5 Energyrom (which is the best btw) and at first it didn't let me send/receive MMS. I did some changes to make it work. I hope this will work on yours too.
Steps:
1. Go to Start-Settings-Connections and select Connection Setup and select t-mobile. Let the processing finish.
2. Soft-reset.
3. Go back again to Start-Settings-Connections and select Connections. Then, select manage existing connections. Edit T-Mobile Data, select next and when you get to access point name, rename epc.t-mobile.com to wap.voicestream.com. Then select finish.
4. Go to your SMS/MMS inbox. Select Menu-MMS options. Go to servers tab. Select T-mobile MMS. Under "Connect Via:" choose T-mobile Data, and select done.
5. Soft-reset again.
I hope this works for you. this is the settings I'm using right to get that MMS working. So far, I'm not getting any issues/problems sending or receiving MMS. Also, you can find somehere on this website a .cab to increase the size of MMS pictures you receive. I hope this helps!
Well basically I am getting charged for some of my text messages and I do not know why.
If I send a long text message will it send as a MMS???
THanks ... this is with T-Mobile
You need to speak to tmobile.
The manual says that an SMS will automatically be converted to an MMS if "very long", but not how long. Can you visually tell when this happens?

Just like when you add a word tot he dictionary it will appear eith "Converting to MMS ..." once it is too long.
if memory serves, it's somewhere between 3 and 5 SMS messages in length where it changes to an MMS.
I always though 5 was the max for text messages on any phone. Then it breaks it down into seperate messages.

Happened to me last week, NOT COOL!
is there a way around this ?
like a config option or something like that ?
is this specific to the desire or android ?
This is standard behaviour for all Android devices, and it applies to the stock messaging app. The reason for this, is that if you are going to send more than three SMSes, it will in most cases be cheaper to send an MMS. This does not of course apply when you have unlimited texts or other discounts.
Until this gets fixed, download a replacement from the market. Try chompSMS or Handcent SMS. The automatic conversion is optional in these.
ah ok
hope this gets fixed fast
using an alternative sms program such as handcent sms or chomp sms gives you the option to break up long text messages into seperate texts instead of converting to mms
Hi all,
Been loving the Desire so far but this evening I got an mms from a friend, presumably showing me his own new Desire, and while the messaging app shows an unread message waiting it doesn't seem to want to download it.
The picture messaging settings seem accurate in the network settings so I'm at a loss as to what's up. This is all via T-Mobile, as per the subject, and everything configured itself when I put the sim in.
Any ideas?
I'm on t-mobile and receive and send mms mostly okay but there have been occasions where my mms wouldn't send at all. tried a different picture and it worked. I've had problems with mms and t-mobile on my iPhone before I got my Desire so I think it's a problem with t-mobile not the Desire?

You need to enable mms for you account, they are not included in the contract and thus you need to activate them online or by contacting them if it doesn't activate when you receive or send an mms.
All good suggestions, thanks.
I checked my account online and it's set to allow picture messages. I also just sent a picture to a friend, which arrived fine. I did notice that it disconnected from the net both before and after sending, so I'm thinking it's using different settings to send them.
Under Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names it does actually show two connections. One called T-Mobile Internet and one called Picture Message.
They're both very similar, except the T-Mobile Internet has no username/password set and no MMS server details. Also the APN type is set to "default" and "mms" respectively. Wondering if I should try combining the two...
Fake Edit: I just asked the same friend to send me a message back and this time it worked. Guess I just need to keep trying every once in a while to see if it happens again.
T-Mobile accounts generally are enabled for MMS to begin with, but to finalise the settings and actually activate it, you have to SEND an MMS. This activates the service.
Once you have done that, you can then normally receive.
if you hadn't sent an MMS before this, that is probably why.
Yeah that could be it, too; although I'm sure I'd sent MMS messages on my Touch HD before (same SIM). Ah well, it seems to be working for now at least! Thanks again all.
If you're using Handcent for sms / mms, that might also cause your issues...
I have done a search and not found if there is a way to completely disable text messaging and/or SMS/MMS on my new tilt 2.
I have an unlimited data plan and still need to connect for that but I dont/wont use the messaging crap.
is this even possible??

I am on T-Mobile, so I'm not familiar with what AT&T can do, but on our network you can log in to your account at the website and disable text messaging. It won't be gone from the phone, but you won't get any text messages. I'm not sure if this turn of OUTBOUND texting.
Ill take a look in the registry for you, i think the most you'll be able to do is disable the messaging driver, but im not sure what that will do. ill be back in a bit
If you dont/wont use it... why even bother with disabling it? I dont think we're charged if we recieve a text only for sending. I could be wrong here though.
Are you worried about accidently opening a contact and typing out a message and sending it to them?
