backing up main screen icon placement - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there a way to backup icon placement?
I'm running the defrost rom with the payed titanium backup
Every time I do a clean install of the rom and titanium re installs everything i still have to then set up my home screens..
anything out there??

after a bit more searching, it seems like titanium is meant to do it?? does it?

I'm not sure about titanium, but I use mybackup pro, and it does restore the home screen.

I tired with titanium, it did restore them when I restarted the phone after it restored the apps...
Last time I did this I was only using the free version.. maybe that's why

[Q] How to keep homescreen settings with ROM change?

I'm running the stock deodexed 3.29 but want to try out some of the other ROMs out there.
I plan on doing a nand backup and a Titanium backup for my apps and app settings.
But, is there any way for me to save my homescreen settings and then apply them again once I've restored all my apps?
Titanium should backup all your icons and widgets as part of the launcher data. What launcher are you using?
Note that normal widgets can't be restored properly. They will show up in the right place, but it will be an error message instead of the actual widget, and you will have to remove and re-add them. I believe this is an Android limitation. The special LauncherPro widgets don't have this issue.
I'm just running stock Sense launcher, save for a couple Rosie/lockscreen mods.
It's just a pain in the butt to go back in and re-add all my quick contacts and icons. I swear I did a Titanium restore before when going from 3.26 to 3.29 deodexed, and it did not restore anything on my home screens (it went to full OEM stock homescreen setup). Not sure what I'm missing then.
It should be the [Desktop] HTC Sense option, IIRC. You might have to reboot after restoring to get it to show up.

Hmmm. It's currently backed up so I'm assuming it was last time I restored also. Well I'll give it a shot again and see what happens. Worst case, it takes me an extra few minutes to set things up.
It's a system app, so if you were just restoring user apps+data, it would've missed it. Other than that, I'm not sure. It's been a while since I used the stock Sense launcher and had to restore it.
Ok thanks.

Dropped Phone, Lost all Home Screens

So I dropped my phone today causing the battery to pop out. After re-assembly and re-booting, everything seems to be working fine except all of my home screens are blank. My apps are all still installed and everything, but all my screens have nothing on them.
I am running Redemtive Revolution, and had just the default home screen set-ups (with a few icons added). Rebooting hasn't brought them back.
Any idea how I can get my home screens back?
Thanks.
Sounds like you'll need to re-set them up. I'd set up one and reboot just to make sure you don't go through the hassle is they aren't going to stay. If you did a very recent nandroid backup, that's an option too.
Thanks. I was able to re-boot and hold a "temporary" home screen, so I can re-build it.
I do have a nandroid back-up from right before I installed the redemptive revolution rom. If I load that, what does it restore to? Would I lose any apps that I installed from that point to now? Would it "overwrite" my redemptive revolution rom? Any way to just pull the home screen "settings" from the nandroid backup?
Restoring the backup takes your phone back to exactly how it was when you made the backup. So if you downloaded apps after you made the backup, they wouldn't be there. As far as I know you can't just pull your home screen settings from the backup. I know that with ADW launcher you can backup and restore though.

What + How do you backup before a full wipe?

Hey,
I've been on holiday and the new version of ARHD is out, but requires (well, recommends) a full wipe, but I'll take that recommendation considering how long it's been since a full wipe and my phone could probably do with it.
So my question is really, what should I backup before a full wipe, and how?
I've got app apks + data with titanium backup, and seo's sense3 sms can backup and restore texts (also I get them saved to gmail), but what else?
Thanks
reply
Hello,
use the Titanium Backup app and back up all user applications with data and system data.
With this method you back up everything, what you can move to the new rom.
Best regards,
Herold
Also, you can "nandroid backup" from clockwork recovery just in case rom flashing fails.
Edit: which is not the case really with arhd. Only themes flashed wrong got me into bootloops

i usually do "adb pull /data/app C:/random_folder" and "adb pull /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf C:/random_folder/wpa_supplicant.conf". This copies all of your apps and your wifi networks to your harddrive.
Titanium backup, apps and data only, manual everything else

titanium back up works only in rooted fone right ????
whats the best app to save back up b4 downgrading ????
i used myfoneexplorer......it is installed nicely in fone....
but when i downloaded it to pc....it keeps showing errors......[nero not found..something like that........]
any suggestions..??????????
I have got many apps including...........F secure.......
thanks in advance...........
This was also something I wondered about before I rooted.
First, if you are connected to your gmail account, all of your contacts, emails, sms, phone log etc will be synced by Google (backed up). Even better, if you are connected to htc sense, it will save all of your WiFi passwords!
Second, you won't be able to take backup of your apps and data without root, although Android market will try to restore every app that you have downloaded from it (still without data). Remember I said try, because it doesn't always work. Therefore I recommend that you use an app called "app list backup" by pun software
to make a list of them.
Third, make a note of all your home screen elements and where they are placed.
Fourth, download bookmark sort & backup by happydroid a to make a backup of your bookmarks.
That's about it, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Easier backup/restore than Titanium? (automated)?

It's always such a bother to click install, done, install, done, install, done for 100+ apps when I restore from Titanium Backup. Is there another backup app that has fully automated restore, rather than necessitating my input for half an hour?
Spend the $6 to buy the pro version and you won't have that issue anymore! It's well worth it for anyone who flashes ROMs frequently...

yea buy it.. then itll do it automatically

As said. In pro you an just click a button and restore them all, with or without data. You can do all apps and system data or you can do all apps, missing apps etc. Gives you a list in case you want to
Ton of features in there that i dont really use. I just backup all new user apps & new versions and then backup for modified data and then i restore when i do a rom. New versions have that all new user apps and new versions set to also backup all system apps. Might want to swap the option back to how it used to be. Backing up every system app is stupid.
Thanks guys, I had no idea the pro version did what I wanted it to do
No problem, be sure to use the thanks button!

Most complete backup software?

I'm looking for a software that can backup everything on my phone. Actually I use AppBacup&Restore. But I want something that restore my application, widget, and folder on my homescreen. I tryed Titaniu but I'm not familiar with it.
Any suggestion?
I've always preferred my backup root over titanium. From memory it backs up widgets and home screen shortcuts but I haven't used it in months and not 100% certain

Your screen layouts should be determined by your launcher. Which means if you restore your launcher data, everything should be as is. I know some of the launchers have their own backup/restore, but how much of that is just basic configuration (themes, actions) vs screen\widget layout may vary.

I would love to help you, but help yourself first: ask a better question

Ok. Thanks.
If you're looking to back up your apps +their data, then titanium backup is your answer. If you search "top root Apps for Android" in Google, you will undoubtedly see it in the top of every list, and there's good reason for that. It's extremely reliable and works well. If you have a rooted phone and don't mind shelling out 6 dollars for all the features, then go for it. Some other features that the app gives you are: freezing apps, un installing apps including system apps, backing your backups to a cloud, backing up your sms/mms/call logs/Internet bookmarks/wifi aps, extracting from nandroid backup, destroying market links/re-linking, converting apps to system apps and more.
If you want to backup everything (apps, data, your rom and kernal etc), then you use nandroid backup, which is free but requires you to flash cwm recovery.
Titanium backup will backup home screen , folder, short cut except widgets ( I think no SW backup widgets and it just matter of few seconds)
Here is detail guide how to use titanium
