Hi,
I'm using the standard People widget at the moment on 2.1
What I'm looking for is something more like Outlook, where I can list people in the Address Book by prioritizing their first name, last name, or company.
I also find it frustrating that in the current Contact you cannot view the entire address of a contact. It shows the first line or so and then if you click it, it just opens google maps.
I also find the sidebar scroll throught the address book difficult to use. A simple alphabet down the margin would be preferable.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks
Jack

Does anyone please know the answer to the following problem?
I have imported all my contacts from Microsoft Office using HTC Synch. When I go to the 'People' tab, all the contacts display as First Name then Surname .
eg John Smith
In Outlook they were displayed as Surname, First Name.
If I edit the individial contact, I can choose between displaying as
John Smith or
Smith, John
I want the Smith, John option for all my contacts. Is there any way I can get all of my contacts to display in this format without having to edit them all individually? I can find nothing in the User Guide that helps...

Same problem for me : a bit hard to find someone by the firstname ...
And I don't want to edit each of my contact.
I've searched the web for an app. which does it properly but didn't find anything...
Anybody here who got a solution ?
From looking around it seems Googles thinking on this is "Don't sort...search"
I guess I just need to get used to hitting the search key and finding my contact that way rather than scrolling through a list. I know it's faster, but my brain keeps telling me it's the long way round. Weird.
I got the desire recently and am very impressed with it, however cannot figure a couple of things
How do I add a map location to a contact? I can locate myself on the map but I don't know how to add that location to a contact.
Also, on the iPhone, I could tap on top of the screen to scroll back to the top. Can you do that with android?
Thanks

Hi I was in the same boat as you with the iPhone then jumped to the Desire. I'm not sure about the maps with contacts but in the browser if you press menu the address bar will show up at the top of your screen.
I am not sure you can add location info to a contact by an option in maps but contacts do link to maps if the address is entered in to the contact and they become navigable using google nav. Sorry if you already know this.
I think what you're describing is a feature of google latitude. Once you sign up for it, you can see the location of your friends who have latitude on your phone via google maps.

If what you want is information on the location of known persons at any time, this is a feature of Google Latitude, all you need to do is sign in and you get the position of all your known contacts (if they allow this).
If what you want is a way to navigate to the address of the contact, If you inform the address on the contact information Google Navigator will allow you to navigate to the destination.

I have not found any equivalent to this, all you can achieve is showing the nav var touching the menu buttton, but you can't scroll back to the top of the page with one single movement.
You can add businesses as contacts if they are visible on maps but if you want to add an address to a contact you will need to do that from the people app.

I thought you just had to add a postal address to their contact information. Once that's done it will give you an option to "View ... address".
Thanks for the responses. In Dubai, we have pretty bad adressing system and about the only way is to arrive at the destination and add it. That's what I used to do on the iPhone by dropping in a pin andc adding that to a contact

When you edit calendar entries the Description field gets overwritten by the Where field's contents! Is anyone else having this problem? This really sucks for me.
YES, I am having the exact same problem! It's very annoying to lose information that I spend time entering on my calendar.
To recap, using the calendar application, there is no way to edit the description field. Moreover, if you attempt to edit, then the description field is over-written with the location.
My workaround is to use Jorte Calendar (from the Market), which allows editing of the description field and doesn't corrupt it, unlike the native calendar.
Moreover, note that the description field is always one line, no matter how big of a description was entered through other interfaces (such as Google calendar on a browser or Jorte Calendar on the device). I am running stock FroYo 2.2 with OTA update, unrooted.
I was wondering if there is a way to edit all of the contact information similar to what is seen in the Gmail web interface? I have looked around, but haven't found anything. I know what comes standard, but is there an app that will plug into the Gmail interface directly so we can customize the labels of the numbers and address, or modify prefix/suffix information? If there isn't, would this be feasible to program, or is there no way to access the Google contacts in that way? I search the forums, but I didn't see much about contact editing.
Thank you for your help, have a great day

Please be advised this application is under constant development.
Compact Calendar was developed to solve the need of compact UI experience that I was missing using the regular WP7 calendar. Also in the time when I started this project, there was no possibility to import additional internet calendars. And also I wanted to gain experience in WP7 development.
Few words about the app:
Events are being read from built in calendar (so please do not define them again in compactCal), after that you can import any ical you want. They can be downloaded by configurable time span from 15 minutes up to a year.
When the list is scrolled to the bottom of list, calendar will be feeded with events from configurable time frame, again time frame is from 15 minutes up a year. You can also switch on/off loading of past events (time frame is also configurable).
You can choose from two kind of view: compact and even more compact view. Duration of each event can be displayed in four ways: classic (09:00[am] - 11:00[am]) or advance (10:00[am]-02:00).
To quickly find the closest event simply touch the first event text at top of a page.
To display more details about the event double tap event you are interest in (first display is a bit slow), if you have an address there and the bing can find it, it will be displayed. To see next or previous one use the finger to swipe to the right (next) or left(prev)
Of course there are a lots of place for fixing the app and I'm still working on it, but I wanted to share the current beta with you and maybe gain some reviews about the general idea, get reports about new bugs that you found, or maybe some requirements that are not on my list.
Missing, todos:
- bug fix
- better/nicer icons
- performance test and fix
- creating reminders
- creation of new entries, currently compactCal is just a readonly application
- tiles, live tiles
- How to modify the screen lock to display the information from calendar
- more
Issues can be found on bitbucket.org, add this suffix (since I cannot add external urls) /jstadnicki/compactcal/issues
Application runs on my LG-E900 and emulator. Was not tested on any other device. This is my first WP7 application so please treat gently.
Hope you guys will like it.
