just got my tilt 2 and immediately flashed to a new rom (erasers latest HTC rom) and the text messaging would not work at all. wasn't sure if it was a rom issue but I loaded energys pheonix 2 on there (standard version) and the same problem. what should I do next? mess with the connection settings or load a new radio or a new rom or what?
thanks in advance, I am a huge noob but I am loving the phone so far (besides this minor hiccup)
bump for some help... someone give me some advice before I start throwing new radios on here!
Bump in the house
Tilt 2 means you are in the US?
I got kind of similar problem - I can't send messages to contacts. If I enter the number instead of picking the contact it works fine AND if I enter a number wich is stored as a contact it displays the name in the "to" field... Quite strange.
I got all my contacts in Outlook International format (that means +49 (0123) 123456789). I guess it's about that. On EPS Advanced ROM it was possible to edit the number after picking a contact (delete the 0 from (0123)) and it worked. This is no longer possible with Energy Leo ROM and now DeepShining ROM.
How are your contacts saved? Maybe you have the same problem (but that doesn't explain why you can't receive messages...). You might try Josh's ROM for example, it contains the correct Radio!

what should I do? return the phone?? install the stock rom and take it to ATT? this is starting to suck since I have had it since Friday and it hasnt worked.
yeah take it back and tell them it isnt working. Get a new phone. Might be a hardware issue.
sorry guys, turns out it was an issue with ATT. went to the store and resolved it and now I am loving the phone. thanks for the help though, I have been worrying about this for the last 4 days, good to have it resolved.

All our technical advice couldn't have helped this issues as it was a background service glitch......Good to hear it's all settled...
I cleared out all my sms/mms messages and I still have the icon saying I have one new txt, when I go to the inbox I see no new messages but it still won't clear, any suggestions?
I saw this thread after almost starting one similar. Im currently on Simplicity and cant send or receive mms messages either, but it works fine with the stock att rom. Wat do i need to do to get it to work on simplicity?
Why?
The correct way of working should be that the MMS connection starts itself when an mms is leaving or arriving...
On CM6 and others 2.2 i tried i have to start everytime the mobila data.
Any way to change this? In the stock 2.1 it worked like i say...
Thanks!
Same thing on 1.2 floyo.
It is the wrong thread, probably will be moved to q&a

Hope that some great dev here can fix this as it is in the stock roms...

They work but you have to enable mobile data. For incoming MMS, my operator send an advice so i can activate it when it's needed.
Non so bad but hope it can be fixed...
Did anyone try this (i.e. cyanogenmod forums, xda forums, etc.)?
For example, I found this thread: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/3558-incoming-mms-resized-to-8kb-solved/
or the last post on this one (which is the same supposed solution if I am not mistaken):
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/2982-sending-mms-without-data-plan-possible/
Another thread I found on cyanogenmod forums, said that with ChompSMS it works fine (although with the builtin messaging it does not).
This appears to be a quite common problem, not specific to the hero, and I think that if someone seriously devouts some time and effort searching for a solution on the internet they will find it - hopefully they can also share it with the rest here.
Please note, that I can't do this, even if I wanted, since in every ROM I have tried I could never send/receive MMS and I don't have a data plan - my telephone company still thinks I have the same phone from 7 years ago....
I tried the solution linked by erasmux but nothing solved.
I tried all the user agent i have in the list... No mmswith stock app or handcent.
I have Solved this thing by using "Hisurfing". with "Hisurfing-APN Switcher widget" if u turn it off then only the APN for Internet goes off not the MMS APN. Secondly u must have enabled the Data.
I am currently using CM 6.1
Please post ur comments
So I followed this guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_G2) to root, S-OFF, etc. my HTC Desire Z which is on Bell's network with a data plan and everything, and everything was going pretty well. Then I downloaded this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822908) to de-brand my phone and it worked as well and everything is fine, except for one thing. The mobile network isn't working. My Wi-fi and normal cellular network that handles phone calls and SMS works, but I can't access the internet when there is no Wi-fi. Normally, when I would connect to the network, an icon would appear in the status bar showing when it was sending out and receiving information and what kind of connection it was (3g, etc.). Now, it doesn't appear when I turn on the Mobile network and I can't connect to the internet without Wi-fi. If anyone could help me fix this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

No, that was an RUU. It's a complete stock ROM (so it does include a radio in it).
Just enter in the correct APN settings and you should be fine though.

Haha sorry, thats my bad.. i actually did google it and find it, I just wanted to be sure that there werent any user-specific things about it that I might have to worry about. I apologize for not being clear. Anyways, I entered in all the APN information except for username, password and server which apparently are supposed to be left blank. Then I rebooted the phone (turned it off, removed the battery, turned it back on) and I am still getting no connection...

hi guys,
I have been a lurker for a while, didn't actually have anything meaningful to contribute (to create a new post/thread), i.e. until now!
Bought a galaxy nexus in April when Google started selling it on the Play store. I did not root it and/or modify it in anyway other than trying out a few apps I developed.
Given that background, 3G/HSPA data has not been working on the phone ever since I got and installed the Jelly Bean OTA update.
I thought I also had the Wifi issues that others are facing, but it turned out to be just a setting (Keep WiFi ON during sleep was set to NEVER by the JellyBean update, am pretty sure I didn't do it).
Do you guys have any clue as to what might be happening here? Any troubleshooting tips?
I am on the AT&T prepaid, data was fine until the JellyBean update. My friend with galaxy nexus also started having this problem post the OTA update, but he is AT&T post paid.
any insights???
thank you!
EDIT:
Also, I forgot to mention in my initial post ..
I get good signals and 3G or H also shows up next to the signal bars, but they are in grey.

I did notice it says Cingular in Apn now wich it didn't before..Have you found a solution yet..???

I didn't call AT&T because I know thats exactly how they are going to reply. If you didn't know it before, AT&T claims the $50 unlimited talk/text/web is unlimited web only for dumb phones but for smartphones you`ll need a separate data top-up. However, I have been using 3G with the same SIM card from November 2011. I had a Nokia N95 till April and then bought the galaxy nexus.....I didn't add the data top-up.
So at first when I started having this problem I thought AT&T finally started blocking 3G on the nexus, but later found out that my friend who is also on AT&T but on a post paid contract also has this same problem from the day he got JB OTA.
Unfortunately, I never went to Phone Information settings until after I got the JB update, so I do not know how it was before the OTA. .

I installed SHOstock3 ROM onto my I777 yesterday. After messing around with my phone, I found a few errors but the most pressing is no mobile data. My plan was through AT&T but now its through NET10. I entered in a new APN with NET10s settins (tfdata) but no dice. I have read on this forum that I might have to delete the 3 AT&T APNs that are listed but I cant delete them.
I triple checked my APN settings for NET10 but still no dice. Must I flash the modem?
Thanks.
do you have cell service at all

Make calls
Receive calls*
Sent SMSs
Receive SMSs
Connect to wifi
My phone cannot do:
Connect to mobile data. Full signal, correct APN settings through NET10
* I have recieved any calls since I flashed my phone but since I can call out, I assume I can receive.

You're crappy reply back is probably a major factor in the lack of assistance.

I had an APN setup that was close to that but I didnt have any proxies in. My OEM ROM didnt need them but I see that this custom ROM does. I need to do more testing but the quick test that I did showed 3G and H+. OEM ROM showed 4G all the time from what I can remember. Thank you!

I believe when sms is converted to mms, it then runs off the data line. I dunno what to tell this guy. If he says he checked his settings and they are okay then I dunno. Double check with net10, if not then just sick it up and move over to metro or redpocket, maybe another mvno.
He shouldn't get all prissy over forum rules. We're all dealt with it. Keeps the people asking for a hand out away.

But web surfing works ???
You most likely need to find the right MMS proxy server and it's port. Most likely it's 80, I haven't seen one that's been 8080 in a while.
Is mms one if the things in the "apn type" field?

What the hell try adding these...
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
And like mindmajick asked, is there anything in your APN TYPE? Most of the examples I see for NET10 say leave it as not set.

I set the MMS proxy as you said but still no dice. APN TYPE was MMS but is now blank. Still nothing.
When you flashed your custom ROM, you may have nuked your APN settings!
As the title says, I think your problem may be related to custom ROMs wiping out APN settings that may have come from the store (or put in by Net10 upon activation/initialization of the phone), and if that's the case, I think I can help you!
I've just gotten done activating (read: porting), configuring, flashing with custom ROMs, and setting up APN settings on 4 unlocked phones that we brought to Net10 (on AT&T's network, via the BYOP program, since these are unlocked GSM/WCDMA phones), I believe I can assist you here.
Rather than trying random combinations of APN settings to try and find one that works, if you call Net10 Customer Support (877-836-2368), all you have to do (once you tell them your phone number/SIM serial number) is ask for someone who can assist you in updating the APN settings for unlocked phones.
You'll be transfered to a different section of Net10's/Tracfone's Technical Support, and whoever picks up will likely tell you they can assist you once you repeat what it is you need help with. They'll tell you the usuals (make sure WiFi, Bluetooth, and Airplane Mode are off, and make sure Cellular Data is enabled, but not Cellular Roaming Data), and then they'll tell you to go down into your SIM/Mobile Network settings screen, and create a New APN. They'll read off the settings they should have, and they they will (or if they don't, you should ask them to "resend the switch and update the settings on their end" in those _exact_ terms, as they've cut the times for this from 3 hours to less than 30 minutes per phone for me).
Then they'll tell you to select the new APN settings, and reboot the phone (or turn it off and back on if your ROM doesn't have a reboot option); they'll have you attempt to open a browser and pull a page down (I highly suggest a mobile site of some sort, being that they're the lightest; it'll either work here or not, there is no "to what degree does it work"). If it doesn't work, they'll give you different settings (though it's not taken more than two APN setting tries for me, and that's mainly because of the area I live in), and then try the browser again. Once the browser is able to pull a mobile site, they'll ask you to try sending a picture message (again, I reccommend a small picture, as it either works or doesn't, so the size will only hold you up longer the bigger it is), even if it's just to yourself.
I've found that if you're simply respectful and paitent with them (as they sometimes have to spend 10 minutes putting various bits of data into other spots on their computers), they will be able to get it done for you within half an hour per phone.
I would highly reccommend that you don't mention your custom ROM however; so long as it doesn't interfere with the APN settings they will never know any better when you tell them you just have a "Samsung Galaxy Note II", and they'll be none the wiser as they fix it for you (because it realistically makes no difference in a problem like this).
If you mention it however, they won't want to help, because they don't know anything about custom ROMs (it seems they're all very terrified of them, and believe they are the spawn of Pewdiepie and Justain Beiber or something similar! XD)
Hoping I've been able to help you here, since I've extremely recent knowledge/experiences to do with the APN settings myself! (Also post whoring as I apparently need 10 before I can let the developers of my custom ROM know about some bugs I've found, go figure!)
If I'm incorrect on the issue, then I'm terribly sorry, and please feel free to ignore me -- I do not claim to be affialiated with Net10, Samsung, whatever ROM you have/whoever wrote/maintains it, etc., and am only trying to be helpful where your problem sounds like something I've dealt with before.
EDIT: I just realized I left out the most important bit! The entire reason for calling them instead of working through all the various permutations of APN setting combos is because your APN settings will be based on [A] your SIM, your phone (NOT ROM, just the phone's IMEI pairing to the SIMs), and [C] your home area/location you use the phone most often.
