The question is if I can attach whatever I want on email.
So for instance if I can make email with doc, picture and .mp3 at the same time.
Because If I would be forced to email all those things FROM dedicated hubs, THAT would be idiotic.
Pity nobody makes such tests for consumers.
Presumeable you can, I can't see why not. The point with the article was to point out that Hubs are information-centered, where applications aren't.
Applications would remain to work as before, Hubs are just a "ease of access".

No.
Try read the article?
Definitely a good article with insight - if he's right.
But if you read back a few entries, he doesn't seem to have an evaluation phone and it's not clear he is using the developement tools for WP7. So is this all conjecture from reading other evaluations or is he right????
Huh? It's a evaluation of the the concept of Hubs (versus applications), not anything technical. So I don't understand your point?
I did, and that's exactly what a widget does in Android. Only in Android you can do more with a widget.
Sent from my Hero CDMA using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
No it's not, and no you can't do more with a widget. Do you even know what the hell a widget is?

This is a information Hub:
And for god sake, turn that retarded spam off your damn phone application.
Its off.
That's one of the many types of widgets in Android. Here are more useful ones.
That picture you showed was of the hub opened, i.e. clicked on. You went into the entire office app.
You obviously don't know what the hell a widget is.
That has less to do with hubs and more to do why the iphone's app integration is bad, imo. Apple could perform a similiar flow in their app based system if they made a way to register application with entities. So that use case described in the article is not exclusive to the hub based architechure, but because of ways to register an entity with an action.
What is nice about the hub is that you don't have to have a twitter app and facebook app, you could have them integrated into one hub and not have to bounce around your device. It's a nice way to aggregrate similiar functionalities while allowing a way for differentiation between the 2.
A hub is more of a splash screen of like functionalities. It's capable of supplying information at a glance. Glancing at random icons for apps gives you little to no information. Glancing at a hub provides a depth of knowledge.

A widget also provides information at a glance. But the scope of a hub is more open to interpretation and design. So when displaying large amounts of information, it becomes cleaner than craming it all into a widget. While you could make a hub like widget it would look cluttered and is not a suitable tool for the job.
What he showed you was the hub...I think you're confusing Hub with "Live Tile" and a Hub's "Live Tile". In that regard, I agree a "Live Tile" is a widget (I think of it more as an updated Icon). Just one that microsoft wants a pretty standard look n feel to. There's nothing really stopping anyone from making an application that aggregrates other applications, intertwines them with splash screens and call it a hub. It just hasn't been done to the scale MS is doing it in wp7 as of yet, imo.
My fault I did confuse hub and live tile.

Ok smart ass
In response to the article, we have been doing that in Android.
That's just shortcuts, it have nothing to do with 3rd party made Hubs, that are made to be information centric.
The closest you can get in Android, is using one of the 7 "screens" to add several widgets for the same topic on. And it's hardly the same feeling.
It's fairly clear you haven't bothered to read the article, or understand the concept in depth. Why do you wish to argue just to prove you're a Android zealot who hate everything that isn't Android?

Still not sure though ... but quite interesting.
If that is true, WP7 better to have it as well!
It's already been hinted that WP7S has multitasking. When you click back on the phone it's goes back to the last application or menu you were using.
Let's say you open Pictures, then you Open the Web Browser. If you click the back button then it will go back to pictures.
Yes, I know that, WP7 will have some sort of multitasking capability.
I just want to post news from other platform competitor (iPhone) so we can see that they are working on something ...
This year would be interesting on mobile world (WP7, iPhone 4, iPad?, HP Slate?).

Speaking of Tables, did you know that LG is supposedly making a WP7S tablet. I don't really care about that, but there are leaked videos of MS Courier which is the hottest thing I've ever seen. Please explain to me what multitasking is. It's a mobile device, what are you expecting multiple windows like you for A Full Blown Desktop OS? You can only view one app at a time. What kind of multitasking do you want? When you switch to another app, the app you were previously using pauses. If it was a IM, Web Browsing, Email or any other web based App it will continue to send information. It's the same if not similar multitasking that you see in Android.
Multitasking means that applications are actually running in the background.
On WP7S, they just save their sate and close or pause. That means they're not running = no multitasking.
(I might be wrong and maybe they are actually running, but everything currently hints that this is not the case and there's indeed no multitasking).
On Android, applications keep running. They just save their sate in case something goes wrong and they have to be closed (e.g. if the device runs out of RAM).
Yes, but is that a big difference? What does keeping an App open in the background benefit your anyway as long as it's readily available? It's not like that app is completely closes, it's just pauses to reduce it's footprint. When you go back it's immdiately available without any loading. Not like you see on the other fruity platform.
multi-tasking might not be really important from a normal user view---> i might be wrong....
however on a enterprise point of view, it is important. running ipblue at the background waiting for call or using office communicator at the background while checking out the email.
This has been discussed ad nauseum already. In many cases you need the application to actually run in background. MS and Apple do it for their own apps such as the music player. The whole question is whether we'll be able to use third-party apps that need it as well.

who gives a **** about the iphone ??? if uve handled a snapdragon phone , and after u get an iphone in ur hand , ur wipe ur ass with it and its ugly low res screen

WP7 will be king
Iam very confident in windows phone7 and its ability to handle Xbox games and tasks. So confident that for WVGA devices like touchpro2 I made a demo of what it would be like and I put it here.
My best guess is that WP7 still uses windows CE as its code base and inherits multitasking support. Seems like multitasking is not a big deal though as WP7 moves away from the multiple application concept.
Although we have heard rumors that WP7S will have preemptive multitasking, if you think about it, the live tiles really defeat the purpose of multitasking.
Say you have a (multi-platform) twitter app.
In Android, you can leave this open and come back to it anytime and it will be up-to-date, but you don't receive any notification.
When using live tiles in WP7S, you can run your twitter app and then switch over to another app, and, although your twitter app will close, while your doing other things your app's live tile can be checking for updates periodically and even display the most recent tweet directed towards you on the homesreen. That way, when you go back to the homesreen, you can see that there's a new tweet, and launch the now-updated app.

Don't like the sense-esque weather or how busy it is as it'd muck up the UI but I like the concept, just too busy for metro.
Yup, a lot of these concepts don't take into account the amount of work the WP7 design team has put in to making the Metro UI uncluttered, simple and yet so stylish..
too busy and would look very out of place with the clean styling of the Metro UI

Yes Metro UI is uncluttered, but unfortunately that means lists of white text on a black background...again and again. It's easy to use but boring to look at - reminds me of an old DOS terminal!

Did you seriously just copy "Notification Center" from iOS 5 right down to the name?
In any case, it looks good. But I'm not sure Microsoft wants to go the down-swipe route. Maybe swipe right to a pane to the left of the start screen?
Or even an extra button on the start screen to go to a Notification Hub. The App list has Search, the Home Screen can have the notification button with a number inside the bubble. I think taht would be elegant and the most unintrusive way to add it in.
In the Hub you can have Notifications and Reminders, however if you have to go to the Notification Hub to get reminders you're already somewhat failed there The OS supports Tasks and To-Dos with half-screen notifications/reminders. There's no need for that pane, IMO.
I am sort of pissed that Microsoft didn't make toasts a rolling 3D box like Apple did in iOS, though... They really need to add a bit more 3D to the OS. It's way way too flat IMO. Almost painstakingly so.
Your Skype thing bought an issue to mind. Why doesn't the message hub in Mango have a graphic or text to tell you your online status? After all, the phone does not log you on automatically when you [re]boot it up.
The music playback controls there are thoroughly unnecessary since they're easily accessible by just pressing a volume key. Waste of space.
I actually think the bubble (Notifications for Start, Search for App list in same spot) would be a better solution than a gesture. Some apps take over that top area and I'm not sure how the phone will handle it when you have UI elements up there that need to be tapped or dragged.
Looks like Android not Windows Phone!
Way to busy, Metro is an elegant yet minimalist UI. This concept looks like a breed between Android and Windows Mobile. With Nokia now contributing to the actual OS I believe the 3rd page concept found on Meego will/should make the jump (minus twitter and facebook since they're already in the People hub).

very wrong imo. A swipe down where? Lock screen? That's not very convenient, home screen? We swipe up and down to navigate the menu. The most viable option is a third table.

Microsoft is late as always. Dropbox and box.net have already given iOS and android users 5-50 gb of storage which isn't tied to a Windows live id. Their apps were out a long time ago.
Microsoft needs to push its platform. WP7 can and will push their services by proxy. XB360 as well, to a lesser extent.

I doubt Apple will be so open with their iCloud?
This is also great for Windows Phone 7 users to be able to share docs with co workers that are using an iPhone.

iCloud and SkyDrive are not the same type of product. It was developed as a storage solution primarily for Mac/iOS users and apps, and not necessarily to be general purpose like SkyDrive and Dropbox. Box.net gave 50gb storage to ios users so most probably took that offer and ran with it. I know I did.
I mean you can't really go in there and browse it like the hard drive the way you can those other products.

The WP7 version is a bad joke:
- I can´t upload or watch videos (possible on iPhone)
- I can´t open word documents or pdf files (download error and offer to try it in the browser ?)
- Only upload of pictures is possible
Edit:
- not even my in the office hub created notes I can open
What I like is that I can delete files or folders and that I can see all shared folders of my friends on one page.
I hope the app will be updated soon...
I don´t understand either why MS allows better skydrive support for iOS than for WP.

Hm.. Not true.
1) I can open and stream videos and music. Pay attention that the codecs you used are supported by WP7.
2) I can open PDF, Excel, Word... No issues here.
The only thing I currently don't know about is the possibility of uploading videos. I just haven't tried it yet. But I believe it's possible as long as they are still in the appropriate section of the pictures hub rather than in the Zune hub.

Agreed, I read some where that the dev of this app has actually been trying to get Ziggy to do more but you know MS and their damned restricted API's. I'n my opinion they need to hire this guy.

I know I hardly use it my self, I'll use it from time to time to entertain my self for a few laughs but it's great to see it evolve. You have to give it to the dev of the app; he has to improve it even with the MS restrictions.
I really don't like it when developers use a panorama design and put "Settings" as a screen to swipe to. They really should put the settings in the app bar. If he only wants the microphone icon in the app bar then add the settings to the "more" 2 dots part.
Otherwise I'm looking forward to this update!

Then he should look closely at how MS design their panorama apps. Settings are always in the app bar in People hub, messaging, xbox live hub, calender etc
Generally when a user swipes along a panoramic screen its to see more content. Settings isn't more content. Most users don't even fiddle with it each time they launch the app unless they need to change something, so therefore dedicating an entire panoramic screen to it is bad design and not metro.
That is my opinion

It's the case with so many major app developers. It's the mindset from other OSes. That brings us to badly developed apps argument. There is always an app for what we need, if not official, a client - majority of the times. But most apps are so horribly metrofied that it's mortifying. Making apps esp free ones, is an amazing task! But then full hearted approach to match the metro concept will streamline an user's experience and they will love your app more. Else someone too choosy about how his phone looks might find distasteful breaks in his streamline experience. Most WP users gotta be choosy with UI, why else would you love this new UI so much!?
May be people here won't agree, but this is what I generally consider as a factor whether any particular app will stay on my WP. In my WM and Android days, that wasn't an issue because OS UI was ugly anyway. But can't let the UI experience be ruined just because I want some functionality of an app that I might only use once a week or once a month!
Oh this looks so much better. I'm not a big fan of how it looks right now.
I do agree with previous comments about settings. A whole screen to swipe to is uneccessary. Put it in the bar.
I can agree Ziggy looks dirty. I hope developer ask some designers to help him make ui better.
Function over finesse. It's more important to get the core working well, than to tweak the look and feel.
For the most part the real use is a 1 button deal. Make it listen. Make it stop and process.
The app without a function update was only a cool concept, but not much worked properly. Since it is a 1 person team, I am glad the focus is on getting it to function properly.
Once the guts are working properly, it can be delivered. Then, we will have a great functional app while the user interface tweaks are done. Then we will have a superb app.
Hello! I'm a designer who loves Metro. I'm tired of seeing the lackluster Metro app design currently plaguing the Windows Store. While there are some fantastic designs, many apps are just boring or don't fit in well with the Metro design language.
I'm here to help. I'm offering my design skills at no cost, all I ask for is one line of credit in the app's About page.
This is my first design. It's a complete GUI for Instapaper. It's very clean, modern, and most certainly Metro. It's extremely simplistic, but still has everything you could want from an Instapaper app. This app rivals even the official Android and iOS Instapaper apps. The design is based around the Bing News app and the People app. If you're interested in developing this app, I feel you could charge at least $3 in the Store, and make a good profit, which I would want no part of.
Below are some images. I have PSDs of every interface from the log in to creating a new folder. If you're seriously interested in developing this app, either send me a message or post below.

This is really awesome sir,Im sure someone would be interested in developing such a great design
Aaaagh... don't quote huge OPs like that, please! Just hit Quick Reply and don't use the "Quote message in reply?" option. It just makes the page really long and makes it hard to find the breaks between posts...
To the OP: looks very nice. I hope you find a dev to work with. A few things to keep in mind:
1) Different resolutions, and scaling between them. What looks great on the Surface's 1366x768 will look pretty bad on my desktop's 2560x1440.
2) Different aspect ratios. Tablets in particular are sometimes used in portrait aspect ratio. It would be great to have a good UI for using the app like that too; not enough Store apps handle that well.
3) Snapping the app to one side or the other. This makes it much thinner and also removes the ability to open the App Bar (right-click or swipe in from top/bottom) and Charms bar for that app, so if it's going to be useful in the snapped view it should offer the most critical controls directly to the user in this interface. Skype, Xbox Music, and even Mail do decent jobs of this, although they aren't necessarily pretty.

I do have designs for every view/position (I haven't done anything about scalability, but I have ideas on how to work with that). I only posted the two main views in dark/light varients to make sure people could get a good solid understand of how it will work and function. I have PSD's for almost everything that's needed. I've found someone who says they'd like to work on it.
Its looks very nice... and clean...:thumbup::thumbup:
You should undertake overhauling a well known open source windows software. Most of them dont have a metro counterpart. Just pick anything, i can see you have a pretty functional design understanding.
