What the best way people have found to sync files to the phone over wifi.
I hate having to unmount the card each time. and now that I have 2.2 and installed apps on it, it's even more annoying
the only way I have found is to set up an ftp server
is there any apps that can view windows shared folders?
or, any dedicated syncing apps?
Estrongs file manager can access windows shares over wifi.
Its easy turn use and the one best file managers in my opinion.

It finds all the files when I select to update the library. But when it tries to add them, the the status bar stays frozen and then it doesn't add it to the songs to the library. When I had windows mobile 5, I never had this problem. I have the At&t Version 8525. I can still open the folder and play it though. Small problem, but it bugs me. Anyone know what is going on?
Delete the WDRM folder from the memory card than try again.
solution
using the file explorer delete MSMETADATA folder in the store card on the root directory.
many thanks guys.........
just a small thing, by default the MSMETADATA and WDRM folders are hidden
so you'll have to set your pc to show hidden files, or you could use an alternative browser (such as total commander) on your ppc
try reading the wiki next time. the solution to this problem is in there.
EDIT: heres link to page in wiki about this:

sorry, im new to this forum
Ok, I have a FreeNAS server setup at home and I have SSH enabled. Anyways, i'm fine and succeded in connection via SSH connectbot and having portforward of 139 to a local of 8888
This works FINE with ES file manager or even Astro file manager, I can browse my FreeNas server. Problems are though:
1. Why can't I actively view images or videos(not that I want to so much through 3G) when I click on the image, and it won't load up? This happens the same way if I do a local browsing via SMB on astro file manager on my LAN at home.
What works: When I do a CIFS mount using that app someone made here, the CIFS manager or whatever, I can stream videos, images whatever fine.
Now if I can get that to work via the ssh tunnel. I tried creating a CIFS via the ssh tunnel but somehow it doesn't work and I get error like "segmentation fault" with mount.
Anyone have any idea? I can transfer files file but I want to have option to quickly view pictures on my server rather than copy the paste then open up.
Ok update, I can do a mount CIFS manually in terminal, but the CIFS module app still doesn't work...
I guess SMB shares won't allow streaming either way?
When you use a file manager to browse files on your NAS box over SSH (or FTP), the remote files are not mapped to a local path. As a consequence, you can only browse these files with applications able to use CIFS, SSH or FTP connections. Your gallery apps and media players can't access these files directly because, unlike EStrong of ASTRO, they have no CIFS/SSH/FTP client built in.
When you mount a CIFS share on your NAS box using CifsManager, all the files within that share will be mapped to a "local" file. The Android system will know that when you acces /mnt/cifs/MyShare/peanut.png, it is in fact the file peanut.png on your network share. The gallery or media player apps access a local file and aren't aware of the fact that the Android system actually accesses a file on your NAS box instead.
I have no idea why you can't mount a cifs share over your SSH port forwarding.
A segmentation fault has to do with memory access.. and that doesn't make any sense. It might be caused by the fact that port 137-139 are NETBIOS ports. Win2K and higher use 445 for CIFS instead. You might want to try forwarding port 137 (TCP/UDP) and 138 (UDP) too.. or forwarding port 445 (TCP/UDP) instead. Then again.. it might be something else entirely.
If this doesn't work, maybe you can try with some type of VPN instead of SSH port forwarding?
Actually figured it out.. hope this post will help others with similar issues.
Problem is the mount on android is a bit finicky when apply options, it's a certain order or some sort. I got it working by using the '-o' by putting port=xxxx,ip=xx.xx.xx.xx
It was segmenting for who knows what when I put ip,port. I guess order matters on android vs the linux mount command. Strange indeed
Works now, though my vids are wrong res when streaming, who knows why but not that I care too much lol.
Works okay now, but pretty much 2 step process to access files at home which is a pain. I guess I can buy the andftp client to do a quick file transfer access.
I have tried with file manager and found the files i was looking for in android/data/something but when i connect my GN to my PC (win7 32bit) i only get a few folders and files,
I have tested with both USB modes and I only get the basic folders such as
Alarms, Android, DCIM, Downloads, Movies, Music, Notifications, Pictures, Podcasts, Ringtones.
and the file manager reports more folders present :/
also the files i'm trying to access are within the android folder (which is visible on PC) but in filemanager there are 10-20 folders found in android/data that are missing on PC. PC only shows 3 folders in android/data
It also appears to be possible for other users to access the exact same file at the exact same filepath, why can't I?
is there a feature on GN or ICS that makes it impossible to access some files from the PC or is this a bug/flaw?
in case you guys need to know what files i'm trying to access, it's the game files to GTAIII
I kind of have a similar problem.
When i connect my phone to a windows 7 computer it mounts okey and shows me the files. If I create a folder on the phone from windows explorer, unmounts the device, I can not see this folder on the phone via a file manager unless i reboot my phone. This also applies the other way around. If I create a folder on the phone from a file manager, then mount the phone to the computer, I can not see the folder until I reboot my phone.
Is there a fix for this? Is it a bug? How can i resolve this? It's very frustrating.
MTP/PTP doesn't offer all the features the full USB transfer mode has. Search will help you find the pros and cons of this.
Workaround: Use an app like WiFi File Explorer or Airdroid.
I keep uh...a few hidden folders on my phone for certain files i dont want loaded in general apps (gallery, video player, etc)
However ive noticed that sense flashing to a custom rom (codename android 2.0 RC) im not able to access these folders via MTP USB connection to my PC. Its not a huge deal, as i can access the files and move it to the appropriate folder but is there a fix for this? i have a folder called .stuff that i cannot access via my PC...but can via root explorer.
Are you using Windows or Linux?
Linux, you could need to press ctrl and h to view hidden data.
Windows, you would have to change your explorer preferences...
You could also just put a .nomedia file in the folder you don't want media players to see.
Using windows.
They aren't set to be hidden in properties.
Just when you put a . In front of the folder name it hides it from media players in android.
Putting a no media file inside will hide all the files as opposed to just hiding the folder from say dice player. As it has a toggle to show hidden folders. It was perfect. Just cant access the .folders in windows anymore. Is this a cm9 bug? Didn't have this issue on my stock rom

My LG G3 D855 is running Marshmallow. My PC is Windows 10 64 bit. I am trying to connect my phone to my PC via ES File Explorer to transfer files over instead of using USB. I have tried my IP address for LAN and there are no folders to view, and also tried Wireless IP address, and my PC folders (docs, music, pictures, videos) are visible, but there are no files inside, well, actually there is one called "desktop.ini"
I've not used this method of transfer for a while, but I know it worked before MM and running Windows 7.
I'm just not sure why no files are visible. Network sharing is turned on, I'm in a home group. I have tried other file managers that have network connection and nothing works.
Any ideas?
Does not matter, sorted, had load of folders hidden!
