Hey guys,
I've been trying to flash my phone with just about any ROM as any I seem to try end up sticking on the HTC splash screen. The only one that doesn't is the Devillain one which would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that a) the SD card doesn't mount for some reason and b) my bluetooth headset only transmits music and doesn't allow calls over BT.
Anyone have any ideas why so many roms don't work? I've tried Clockwork mod and Amon RA Recovery and both produce the same result. It's really beginning to annoy me
Maybe they use Apps2SD+?
Ok so how would I install that? Thought it was included on the ROM's to be honest so I haven't put it on there!

Still very new on this, but I guess you need to create a special (ext) partition on your SD card for Apps2SD+ to work...
As far as I know, you can do this from the recovery menu...
Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Correct! But you can also use ROM Manager which makes the creation of the partition easier, but remember to backup data from sd as it will be wiped!
So if I just create a ext partition (which I've done through Amon Ra recovery) it should work? Just transferring some ROM's over now and will try again.
Yes, setup an Ext2 partition. Then convert it to Ext3.
I love you guys I had an ext 3 partition before but for some reason it didn't work properly. Having formatted again I've just installed DJDroid's Rom

Install ROM Manager to partition your SD card, very easy to do

I made partition with Rom Manager.
Do I need now to "swap" ext2 to ext3?
If so, how do I do it?!
Have you tried DeFrost? I haven't installed anything (Like A2SD) on top of the ROM itself so if that's the issue, this ROM should work for you.

Hey guys! Im totaly new to this and am not really sure that ive postet this in the right forum section, but i'll give it a go anyways!
I've rooted my Desire, and the tutorial i followed did ofcourse not mention that i really should grab a backup of the default rom, so i didnt back up.
I installed CyanogenMod, but i didnt like it (due to the fact that it doesnt have the sense widgets) so i tried to find a Sense Gingerbread rom to use, so i installed this:
RCMix S v2.0
That one worked rather horribly, or i can go so far tosay that it didnt work at all. My phone stucks all the time, and ive havent gotten past the htc setup yet.
So basicly what i need is someone to point me in the right direction, i need a good ROM that is like the original HTC Sense for Desire, but with gingerbread.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Nymo.
If you want a ROM with SENSE, LeeDroid, of course !

So ive red a little, and ive seen that something with radio and memorycard partitioning. What is this? Is there an tutorial for LeeDroid that goes through all the steps from a rooted phone?

RADIO
Is a software part of firmware (rom), this manage the phone network (3G/2G) for calls and internet connections. Each radio has features that make the consumer less appropriate according to the telephone operator (orange / vodafone / wind / plus), which uses a different frequency, if a particular radio set is better for some frequencies, for example -75 dBm and 19asu (drawer -> setting -> battery -> network) with certain radio I have a better battery performance compared to other operating frequencies higher. If you have «branded phones», you have at default better radio that «not branded phones» becouse ruu of «branded phone» have different radio of «stock ruu» for wwe.

Partitioning memorycard means partition your sd card. You can do this from recovery.
And next time use the search. Nearly all questions like these are already answered.
I was stuck at an airport for like 6 hours, so belive me ive searched alot.
Which one do i use, the LeeDrOiD A2SD++ Edition or the LeeDrOiD Data++ Edition??
EDIT: I have decided to postpone my change of ROM untill i recieve my 16gb memorycard. I Only have a lousy slow 2gb card atm.
stuck on pink light
i installed startburst froyo on my htc desire. but when i restart my phone for data2sd. it stuck on pink light. i wait around an hour but nothing happened. i create 2 partition before installing. 1st fat32(3gb) and ext4(1gb) both are primary. now what to do

Both versions have their dis-/advantages. Just try.
Rom
Well there is more to root to it. If you read carefully through the forum you will find everything there but I will try to sum it up here.
First you root. That gives you a lot more permissions on your phone ( like installing custom Rom's) but that is that. Your phone still has the stock (factory) hboot meaning that the space for the system and apps is not changed. This is probably what got you into trouble. You may have installed a Rom that is not compatible with the stock partition of the phone. What you now have to do is change this partition acording to the Rom you want to install. There are two options:
1. extend your phone's internal memory to the SD card ( there are guides on the forum on how to create a EXT3 partition on your SD) and go with a A2SD type Rom ( this type of Rom installs the apps to that EXT3 partytion on the SD card ). I chose this option and I would recomend LEEDroid or Insertcoin Rom's as they both have sense and work like a charm ( I prefer InsertCoin because with LeeDroid I have some issues as I reject some calls when I take the phone out of my pocket)
2. change the internal partition of your phone and instal a custom HBoot. For this you got to be S-OFF ( clear another type of security built in by HTC, this is higher than root) and you can find guides for that here. Then you can install a CM7 Rom
But you should take the first route if you are a begginer since is not as dangerous.
If nothing works for you, find a Stock Rooted Rom and install it. This won't cancel your root but you go back to the factory status of your phone. You can install anytime another custom rom, after you find out more.
Thanks guys!
So i should wait for my new memorycard, considered i just simply cant change the memcard beacuse the apps (and part of the os?) are stored there, or can i just copypasta them onto the new card, after ive created the partition on that card too?
Also, this radio thing. Do i have to figure this out before i install a new rom?
Oh, and btw: I Have decided to go with the A2SD++ version.

Hi.
You must flash the radio before flashing the new ROM, or there will be conflicts.
How To Flash Radio:
Code:
1. Go into recovery
2. Choose install zip from sd
3. Choose zip from sd
4. Confirm
5. Reboot
OR through fastboot command, if you know how to use it:
Code:
fastboot flash radio c:\radio.img
assuming radio.img is on C:

What about this thing?
Success!
Successfully flashed to LeeDroid AP2SD++ today, couldnt wait for my new memory card lol.
I had a lot of trouble with creating the EXT3 partition, i managed to create the partition with Minitool partition manager (something like that, cant remember the name), but it got the E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 error all the time.
What i did was just install Cyanogenmod and use ROM manager to create the partition. It only created a 512mb partition (1gb is recomended for leedroid) but it works fine.
The radio flashing went really smooth, no problems there!
Thanks for the help guys, much apreaciated!
Still, i havent gotten the answer bout the new memorycard thing. When i get the new memorycard, do i have to to a new installation? Or can i just backup the ext3 partition and copy it over to the new ext3 partition on the new card?

Hi guys.
Well I managed to get root access to my phone which wasn't really hard. And I managed to s-off and backup my files successfully. Now I'd like to deal with the internal memory issue. The question I want to ask you is this one.
If I create 2 partitions with gparted, one fat32 and second ext4 (around 2 gb's), will the ext4 one be considered as internal memory too ?
Then I'd like to install a custom ROM. So the second question is, can all ROM's the internal memory that way. I mean the custom part from the SD card ?
If something is unclear just ask, cause English is not my primary language.
Thanks in advance.
It should be that every ROM has it's own requirements for doing that.
So not every ROM can use approximately 2 GB for internal memory ?
That's what you're saying ?
Yes, for example I use 3GB on my SuperNova ROM, but recommended is 2GB so now I am trying to repair that. If you get me.
Kapiras? xD

Euh, if you ask me I would say it's part of internal memory (when you remove it the apps on ext4 don't work anymore) but i'm not a dev so not sure though
you can see it as an extension to your internal storage capacity..
next, most of the systems to use your ext4 are already included in roms (A2SD, D2EXT) so you don't have to worry about that, they recognise the partition themselves
the only thing you should be aware of is that you pick the right HBoot (don't flash CM7 HBOOT A2SD on a STOCK HBOOT A2SD)
this is normally explained in most ROM posts but i guess with a 2GB part you should be fine for A LOT of different ROMs
extra: there is a nice pic near the end of THIS post what is shifted to the ext partition when you use a certain method
grtz
So like with an app A2SD when not rooted, you can move apps to SD, but when you remove it, part's of it remain in the memory on the SD card.
The link you gave me is for "AD2SDX Special Edition for Sebastiaan15 RunnyMede Desire ROM", exactly what I want to install.
So first I create partitions with gparted. Fully wipe my sd card.
Flash the rom, then flash that AD2SDX zip file.
And it should work fine ?
Thanks for answering mate.

well, with the last version of sebastian15 for CM7 there's no need to flash the AD2SDX zip file, now it comes as an option during install (you'll see )
thus, first you make 2 partitions 1 ext4 of min 1024MB (mine is that size but you can do more if you'd like) an the rest of the sdcard is fat32 .. (mine: 7GB)
then download the right rom (check HBOOT, i have CM7R2 so i can install AIO v1), with Hboot its version 5.3 and you still have to flash the AD2SDX zip if you want it (A2SD is good enough for me )
oh right, don't forget a full wipe
grtz

An external partition has nothing to do with hboot.
The only worse thing than people not helping are people helping wrong. This thread is a failure on so many levels that human vocabulary just can't cut it.
Then why don't you help me, or just point me in a right direction ?
Thanks for the answers.
Because information you seeks are essential to know before you attempt to root.
FYI, I have successfully rooted my phone.
And I have managed to install the desired ROM.
And one more question.
I have managed to make 2 partitions.
Fat32 (5,5 gb) and ext4 (2,2 gb), yet the phone recognizes only 5.5 as the SD memory. And the 2,2 are not usable ATM.
What should I do ?
Reading your last comment I can't imagine how could you possibly root it successfully on your own.
GTFO of my thread.
Zealotic, terepin is right in a way. You show no understanding of the ext partition, or flashing, or ROMs. It will never show up. Because it is a separate partition. You'll only ever see the fat32 partition in your phone under sd storage. You need to do some research before you attempt any of this.

Before installing a Custom ROM on my rooted Desire I am trying to sort out the SDCard as required but am running into problems.
The guides I've read say to change the size of the Fat32 partition on my card to allow an Ext partition. The trouble is in GParted my card just comes up as 'unallocated'.
If I do format it to Fat32 and add an Ext partition (both Primary) once I put my recovery files (and or update.zip for custom ROM) on the card and enter CWM Recovery it doesnt see the files. It just says 'no files found'.
At one point my phone said it couldn't mount SD Card. This even occured when booting phone as usual as no memory card was showing up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Well I've spent about three hours on this again today still to no avail.
I tried formatting the card in recovery then brought it up in gparted. The card was still showing up as 'unallocated' and when I created the Fat32/Ext partitions the card once again failed to be read by recovery. Although Windows has no problem seeing it.
Eventually my phone and gparted couldnt see or mount the card at all. After running my phone and formatting the card it eventually saw it.
I thought the problem may be because I connected my card to gparted through the phone so tried a card reader but the card reader didn't appear to work. I don't know if the difference I explained is important.
Is it feasible to install a decent custom rom with A2SD with the partition created through recovery? (which gparted also didnt see) as I am having an absolute headache with gparted. Every work around I try just creates a new problem.
Try this: Use Gparted to partition whole card to 1 FAT32 primary partition and then partition it via 4ext recovery into two partitions as required.
Thanks, I'll try it once the kids give me some peace.
Its actually the Supernova 2.4.0.0 ROM I'm trying to install but if I do partition the SD Card with Ext4 Recovery when I do the required Full Wipe won't it go back to how it was? and then I'd have to setup the phone and install the app again to re-partition it? Would I be able to do this before I install the custom ROM?

A full wipe doesnt repartition the card. It only formats some partitions. Partition first, then do a wipe and finally install the rom. Installation instructions for the rom are given on supernova.droidzone.in

The installation instructions mention a full wipe but reading further it does mention a factory reset so its ok. Will let you know how I get on once the kids are in bed.
Right after some messing about I've had some success. I booted back into Android once I'd used GParted and after a while it saw my SD Card ok.
My Windows PC only saw 12.9GB (of a 16GB card), my phone saw the full 14.9gb in Android and GParted saw both partitions.
As I'd just done a factory reset and my PC saw my Phone I transferred the ROM File to my memory card and installed.
As I had downloaded the Extreme edition I followed the Classic install instructions as instructed and rebooted (after booting to android after install).
The LEd flashed green a couple of times as mentioned but then stopped and is now stuck on the htc screen.
Am I right the file I installed (Supernova_2.4.0.0_signed) is the classic version? Should I have downloaded a sepaerate file for the A2SD installer? The instructions don't seem to suggest this.
And most importantly how do I get my phone to work? lol, please help!
Update: Before I installed the ROM it was showing up correctly in GParted and in Windows it was only showing the Fat32 section which I assumed to be correct. After removing the battery I am back to starting up as normal (with the new Custom ROM) but the SD Card will not show up in GParted and will only allow me to use in Windows if I format first which I havent done. Therefore I can only conclude the file system has got lost somewhere which is why the A2SD installer crashed.
I've very happy with the improved ROM but I still don't have extra stoarge space which was the whole point in upgrading.
Any idea where I can go from here?
The file is right. However I cant suggest anything until you follow the proper reporting format and pull logs from your phone as per post #3 of supernova thread. The report should be filed in the Supernova thread or on the Supernova Forum at droid-force.com

No, you will need to create an ext partition with cwm and then install some data2sd script.
Don't know what rom you are using but best to go the rom thread and see which one is best for you.
If you are on ICS it's worth reading the wiki page on data2sd.
I have always used amarultz's script without issues. There is a zip version which can be installed via cwm.

Why would you flash INT2EXT4 on any ROM that you flash? By the way, do you delete the already existing a2sd scripts from the ROM before flashing INT2EXT4?

try flashing the rom without flashing INT2EXT4. Most roms have built in a2sd scripts, which allow you to move apps to an sd ext partition.
Also, how did you create the partition, best done with 4ext recovery or gparted.
512MB is also quite small, might want to consider 1-1.5GB.
As above, just flash Rom without another a2sd script as most have them built in or activate with terminal commands, check each thread. Which Rom are you using?

I created the partition with CWM Recovery, I'll look for the guide and make one with 4ext.
I want to use 1Gig but that INT2EXT4 guide said that I need 100mb internal storage per every 512mb sd-ext. (and I had like 150mb free intenal)
ROM I want to use is AOKP CM10. Don't know how to activate a2sd, and I don't need to know it if 4ext recovery will do it...

making the partition using cwm may have been your problem. Use this guide to remake the partition. Im assuming you want to use VJ's CM10.1 ROM. If this is the case, there is no need to use INT2EXT4. Instead use the preinstalled a2sd script.
After flashing the rom, you can activate a2sd by doing the following:
Open terminal emulator provided in the rom.
Type the following commands
su
a2sd install
Y
N
Y

Ok, thank you, now just one more thing. I have to remove the previous sd-ext partition and I can't do that on PC cause disk managment doesn't recognize it, it shows 6.87GB free, I think it should be about 7.3GB cause its 8GB SD. Can EXT4 recovery do that or should I find some program on PC?
---------------
I figured it out.

In 4ext, there is an option to "Remove all partitions and start from scratch". Im guessing that deletes/wipes your fat32 partition as well, so back your files up.
If you want to delete it without the fat32 being formated too, you can use gparted. But thats a bit time consuming and a hassle.
