This is has probably been asked before but just in the chance it has not, i was watching the commercial for the moto droid X and they are advertising the blockbuster on demand app where you can just rent and watch movies right on your phone.. is there possibly and APK for this, or can it be ported to the evo?
Thanks

i wouldn't mind having this also
although i am assuming it will be like Skype mobile and locked to the carrier and phones rendering it unusable to other carriers/phones

awww man i hope one of the devs will be able to port this to the EVO somehow that would be awesome... there has to be someway to trick the app into thinking its on a Droid X and be able to use it!
I'd love to see this as well.
Blockbuster app = irrelevant. By 2011, Blockbuster will cease to exist meaning the app wont work anyway. I'm personally looking forward to the upcoming Netflix app.

I know that the new xda update includes adds and other stuff, there's fine.
I was wondering, if possible can xda make a paid app without ads? I would defiantly buy it. It would be nice and xda be making money too.
Please post here if you would like that and maybe we could get one.

hey dude every time i try to log on to the APP it tells me " need administrators permission to login...? " what do i have to do?
We added an ad so that we can continue to provide the app free. Surprisingly, we have gotten a lot of messages from people willing to pay to remove the ad. So, we are considering this, perhaps with a premium version that also adds new features.
Thanks for your input!

We're working on an update that should fix some of the issues with 1.3.1. In the mean time, try reinstalling, or rebooting your device. It works fine on my Nexus One with 2.2.1.

I agree with the no ad concept for a fee.
We are constantly bombarded with ads daily from every other medium so when I see ads, I uninstall.
In this case, XDA remains on my device because this is the best forum on the net, period.

Didn't know ads bother people so much. Games I know, but these ads are not bothersome at all.
Hypothethical question for the devs which would make you more money someone with who buys a $2 app or someone using an ad supported app. Just wondering

I would definitely buy it. The last thing I want to worry about is hitting the next page button and getting a 9.99 jamster charge on my bill because the ad captured my mobile number because of the app permissions or something like that. Thanks for the great app though

My carrier disabled third party billing to my account, but I think XDA uses a reputable source for the ads in the app (likely admob or google), who wouldn't allow someone to billl you $10 through merely clicking an ad.
But I'm sure Svetius can clarify which service generates the ads, and while it pays to be cautious, I reckon you're unlikely to get something like that as an app advert (though I am sure someone will try it some day...)

It really is a non issue. Can you cite any viruses that have been released and affected phones?
Just check the permissions of apps and don't install fishy ones without doing a little research first.
I have Lookout on my phone. I guess its doing its job but there haven't been any viruses. The other reason I have it is if you lose your phone there is a phone locator feature using the Evo's gps.

linux is completely open-source with a MASSIVE community of support. there's no reason for there not to be virii floating around for linux and possibly even android.
Seems like all AVs do is check permission for ones that shouldn't be there.

Just me..but why worry about viruses when one could have "root" and get your whole phone and all of the data and connection permissions on it to everything you connect to "in the cloud" and elsewhere.
A simple rogue app would do this and never be considered it a virus.. all you have to do is install it and give it su and it does it all. This isnt a windozes environment...we want it all.."root"...viruses are child play for windoze. my opinion.
I downloaded the New Android Market app and then downloaded a movie after trying to play the movies it says movie will not play on rooted device. Anyone else having this issue?
Google movies won't play on rooted devices. It knows that your device is rooted, and has to do with copyright protection. That's the way it is right now.

big brother knows... your right about the copyright protection. they dont want anyone using a rooted device because then google just became the "new pirate bay". you could buy the movie. copy it with TB or any back up. ask for a refund and have the movie for free.

You don't want to try to rent movies on a rooted phone. Since root allows us to modify framework and potentially remove DRM, you can't actually view the movie you just paid for because content providers asked Google to restrict rooted users from accessing movies, even though you can still pay for it.
@mikeew83,
Not sure if you do this already, but check the android development and hacking forums. There is a section for apps and games, it's a great place to find apps.

Google does not 'allow' publishing to Play Store. They only scan the app for malicious code and publish. It's up to the users to decide if they want to give the app access to the features is requires or not. Google treats the users of their services like adults that can make their own choices alone, unlike Apple which treats them like children that are allowed to access only what Apple wants them to access.

Hi I'm a noob here and with anything android - so according to the noob video I found this thread, it's an old one so I hope that's ok.
I recently downloaded a free game called URBEX via amazon onto my kindle fire - the crippled android - anyway I really liked the game and browsing for something similar found what looks to be the very same game being sold by a chinese developer. The name of the game was only slightly different 'Arbex Escape' but the screenshots are of the URBEX game. Is it likely this Arbex is totally fake, I didn't see any point in downloading it to see but there are complaints about it not working on amazon and itunes where as URBEX has good reviews.
I looked up the so called developer of 'ARBEX' Zhiqiang Huang and Beth Ho, and it looks suspect to me but for all I know developers may allow resale remarketing of thier work somehow? I'ts made me look at the world of apps in a far more sinister light or am I just paranoid?
Doh, just seen it is an HTC thread, i'm not far off the mark though am I, I have got one of those too, and newly flashed and rooted, Very Many thanks to this site.
