I'm seeing intermittent transfer speed when transferring files on the desire.
At first I thought it was caused by the aging (?) win xp. Then I tried on a win7 and the issue is there. the SD card is the 4GB SanDisk that came with the device. What happens is that I copy files over to the SD and it starts quite speedy at 10MB/s and then the file progress bar stops for a few seconds, the speed drops to about 2MB/s, and then the transfer resumes. Before the transfer is complete, the progress is stopped 3 or more times, depending on filesize.
Do you experience the same behaviour? If so, could it be because the SD is only a class 2 card? would a faster card solve this?
thank you

oh, almost forgot. when transferring from the desire to the pc
the transfer is uninterrupted and the troughput is quite high, at 8-10 MB/s. could it be a faulty card? or is this because the write speed is much lower than the read?
thanks again
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
I have same problem. So it's not faulty. Could be due to sd card speed, but I'm not sure. Think it was faster on my Hero with the same sd card in it.
But so far it works fine, even with the delays. I just try to ignore the delays lol
It's not a deal breaker, maibe a mild nuisance. But since I was thinking about getting a bigger faster card I'm wondering if the nuisance goes away too
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Could be the fact that the SD card is only a class 2 card?
I ditched the stock card straight away for my 8gb class 6 and have had no issues with data rate.
I guess that could be the issue. Just a few minutes ago I also noticed the phone lagging a lot while copying stuff. Lagging real bad. I guess copying large movies and using the phone at the same time is a no-go
Or perhaps get a better sd card
I am using Class 6, 16 GB ... no issue with transfer speed.
I noticed that the phone is lagging only when installing apps.
Any suggestions for a good speedy SD?

When are they going to release the 64 GB Galaxy Note 2 ? At least when Apple say that there is a 64 GB version, we actually see it in real life.
If Samsung is not going to release it, why even announce that there is a 64 GB version. Samsung may as well say that there is a 16/32/64/128/256 GB version of the Galaxy Note 2 during its event to make it look good.
Gn2 forums state Samsung isn't going to bother with the 64, and likely focus on the 16 only.

Even if you don't believe everything posted in a forum, considering that the 64GB S3s are just now slowly starting to trickle out in Europe, I wouldn't be optimistic on that ever happening.
Wait toss doesn't have 64? Kidding, but maybe the onboard chip coukd be removed and replaced with a 64gb model. Couple of guys I work with could do it and they have the tools. Probably safer to put a 64gb class 10 microsd in it. Maybe in a year, after warranty is out, I'll have them take a stab at it.

That is why I think Samsung should not announce that there is such a thing as a 32/64 GB version of Galaxy Note originally.

I would imagine that a class 10 64GB card would not be a good idea as a replacement to the built-in 16GB flash; I think the onboard flash is higher speed than any SD card we would install, even if you could get the Note II's storage controller and such to recognize the new chip properly, and do the connections properly.
Sounds like a cool project nonetheless
Try this, it will switch your external sd card to your internal sd card. So if you have a 64gb card you can essentially have a 64gb samsung note 2.

How are things running? The internal storage on the note 2 is about triple the speed of an extreme sd card running at 95mb/s. Note 2 internal read write is just over 220 mb/s. If you use a class 10 sd card, those are only 25-30mb/s. If your playing games with huge loads like Nova 3 or move huge amounts of video/photos, it's likely going to take a huge hit to speed if you use the SD card as internal storage.
It's like desktop PCs - many people use smaller ssds for the OS and the bigger but often slower drives for heavy storage. In this case then internal is like an ssd and the SD card is like a data drive.
Can you compare the transfer rate while moving a big video to and from the internal memory compared to moving the same video to the SD card mounted as the internal drive? Curious as to your results.

Iphone doesn't have ability to add an sd card to expand storage. The note II supports up to 64gb in addition to the built in 16gb. What other phone available has this kind of storage?

My point is not that iphone has better storage or not. What I want to say is Samsung stated that there is a 64 GB version of the Galaxy Note 2 and they don't release it at the same time as the release of the 16 GB. Apple actually release the 16/32/64 GB at the same time.
The funny thing is, Samsung actually can make its own flash memory. It does not have to depend on another company.

To be honest i cant tell of any difference in speed in day to day use. Apps load fine and just as fast as the internal sd. The core apps and Stock Rom are installed on the ram, so there wouldnt be any difference really with using the device. As for transferring videos back and forth i haven't really done and tests, but than again i would always store larger media files on the 64gb sd anyway. I do highly recommend this mod especially for someone looking for more capacity. i had this mod on my gs3 and no problems then, and i have no problems now. If anyone is holding out for the 64gb note 2 just look at the gs3 situation. You have to remember you arent removing the internal sd they are just swapped for each other in the OS. So the internal is now the external. Both are accessible just like normal.
I'm running a 64GB microSDXC and it's just fine and dandy. I agree they shouldn't announce it and then not have it available though.

Use EXTERNAL SD, do not rely on internal storage!

You should never be worried about the internal memory size - even 8GB should be enough, AS LONG AS the phone comes with EXTERNAL SD CARD SLOT WHICH ACCEPTS LARGE SD CARDS. Having the external SD card is NOT necessarily about expanding your storing capacity (although a 64GB does that generously) but rather about having your information safe, significantly less prone to accidental formatting/erasing. Most of the time when you do a factory reset your internal storage is also formatted - do you want that to happen when you stored tons of important information? Of course not!! Worried about read/write speed? Buy a high quality, class 10 external SD card and I promise you won't see any drop in speed. Only use the internal storage for files that the system really looks for and requires to be placed inhere - otherwise, EVERYTHING else, especially large media files, backups and personal files should be kept onto the EXTERNAL SD Card. There are tons of advantages doing so and all those messages companies like Apple, HTC (newly adopted this stupid model), or others alike who try to influence and convince you that external SD cards are obsolete & cloud storage is better, all that is simply marketing BS. Buy Samsung because they didn't aligned themselves to the BS, because you can have a super generous 16GB internal storage and up to 64GB external storage. Do you need more than 80GB on the go? Then reconsider...really! Maybe you shouldn't download all the internet today, leave some for tomorrow when they'll make you pay for all that "free" cloud storage that you kept cramming onto today. Be open minded, understand how things work and do what's good for YOU not for the big corporations!
Several game loft games and the internal storage is gone... some people do that ya know
And most people dont know about all the hacks to get around this limitation.

I brought one, formatted it to fat32 and created a partition of 2gb also fat32 using minitool partition so I can use link2sd, but my phone keeps randomly rebooting and apps are force closing, not all the time, but alot of the time, i never had the problem yesterday while using the 32gb sd.
Not sure if i can solve this and is this usual for the 64gb
my phone still keeps rebooting after testing for a few days, at first it's fine but as i gradually try and fill it up to about 21GB now the phone just constantly reboots with force closes and widgets not loading so im assuming 64gb isnt really that compatable, might be worth going back to the 32GB? sd
I have 64gb and have had it for months formatted it to fat 32 via windows I haven't made a second partition though aparantly 1gb is supposed to br max? And are you sure its a real when ever I buy asdcard I always use a program that tests it capacity

Thanks for you're reply, I brought it from amazon directly not a third party, i doubt they would rip me off, i have formatted through the computer and phone using fat32, but i haven't tried it without partitioning it, maybe that could be the problem?
I was able to partition the 32GB to 2GB without any problems but as it's a bigger card it could cause problems, will test it out
How would i test to see if it's real and what would the results show?
I bought mine from amazon also and I used a programe on my computer that i downloaded can't remember what is called but I remember there being a few it took like a hour to test though but I honestl don't know what's up with it you could try not partitioning it for awhile :/ but I have nearly used all the space on my card and experience no problems got about 5 gig left there's also sd tools on the play store or you could try wiping the card completely and starting from scratch :/

I have wiped it and starting from scratch using a 961mb partition just under 1GB as i read it can cause problems hopefully that will sort it if not i will try last resort with no partition, do you have the problem with low internal memory with not having a partition, that's only reason why i chose to do this on my 32GB as i had about 8GB left but i wasnt able to use it.
Nah I don't realy need it I havr 110 mb free and that's with wildblood 52 mb orderandchaos 23mb gangter rio 14mb dolphin browser 14mb and that's the big ones I have loads of games 68 on my play and 200 apps alltogether I do want a second partition but don't have a computer atm does using the second partion makes games run slower and can you move the data aswell as app? And can you movedalvik to sexond partition?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I dont notice any difference in games slowing down just the same, it doesn't move all data it just uses the app but where as usually you have the app installed on your internal and the data of the game goes to you're sd, you can have both on your sd, keeps all your space, well thats how it worked on my 32GB with 2GB partition but maybe the 64GB causes problems with bigger partition doing that, i'm not sure about the dalvik catche.
No luck, woke up this morning picked up my phone and bang froze, twice rebooted and force close apps everywhere with my home screen widgets not loading, trying now without partition, last resort, otherwise im back to 32GB
after my conclusion i am still having reboots, trying back the 32gb if it still occurs then it's more serious then i thought.
i have also flashed stock firmwire just to see if that was causing it

Weird. I really don't think I've heard of one of these SD cards acting like that for the Play. SanDisk is normally pretty reliable in general, too.
If interested, I'd trade you a Samsung Class 10 that works great in my Play and has pretty good random read/write speeds as well. Although you'd be better off returning yours for the cash.

I will keep it and use it in something else, if it's not faulty, I don't understand it either I did research and seems to work with everyone else.
I don't mean to be rude or ignarant but how do you use app2sd as i am having no lucky with link2sdor any other low internal storage, i keep wanting to go to my 64gb as 32 wouldnt be enough, i love my games and want a phone full
thank you for your feedbacks.
at the moment it seems the problem is while charging overnight
So I'm having issues with 4.1.2 update.
I was on 4.1.1 rooted with CF-AutoRoot, flashed back to a stock rom, updated OTA, redid CF-AutoRoot.
I don't think CF-AutoRoot is related here, but Im just detailing my steps.
So I noticed that whenever I lock my phone, and then unlock it (even after a few seconds or an hour), the SD card shows as being "remounted" for some reason. Every time. Never used to do this.
So if I'm in camera or playing music, lock the phone, and unlock it - the app will say "Media failed"
In battery, it says Media 49% battery usage.
CPU Total 28m 46s
Stay awake 39m 46s
Includes: Downloads, DRM Protected Content Storage, Media Storage, Downloads, com.sec.android.providers.downloads
Can anyone help? Any recommendations on how to approach the issue? Somehow can I log what apps are using this?
Do you have an app that auto downloads things such as a a podcast app? You can get better battery stats or something to see if it shows you the real culprit.

Very interesting. After doing a lot of Google and reading similar issues, I'm going to try reformatting my card when I get home and will report back if this works. If I force close media then the sd card cannot be used, which may infer some kind of corruption or some garbage
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
You can probably kiss that card goodbye. The issues you are getting are the issues I was having and many others. I was lucky that I was able to backup stuff to my computer. Within an hour of that, my phone nor my computer would even recognize the card and it was dead at that point. I attempt to reformat the card but it did not work.
I tested the fault by using another Sandisk 16gb ultra that I had and it worked in both devices. Oddly enough I purchased another 32 gb card, same model, and have been trouble free for about a month.
Ever since putting in the new card, the media thing went away. I also froze a DRM process with Titanium Backup but I don't think that had anything to do with the media process taking up a huge chunk of battery.
Test this out by using another card or simply taking the SD card out for a while and see if the media battery sucker is still there.
Mentioned below is the link of the post related to my battery issues lately.

And if in real it has become incompatible, which one shall i use for my phone? :banghead:

The only time I have ever seen problems with an sd card is from a custom Rom, which you don't have. And the card going bad. I have never seen a card cause battery issues. Certain apps cause battery issues. If you recently installed anything new, remove it and see if your battery drain slows down. As far as the card goes, just get a good quality card. Like Neroga, I have never gone wrong with Sandisc cards.

I fear it might be the issue. Have to factory reset but can't do since i got what's app registered on my lost phonr number (that means i cannot register it back on same number once i reinstall it. Not much of a problem except doing a lot of work prior to it, like registering a new number on roaming, etc)
Got to root to install titanium backup but have to get my laptop repaired for that lot of mess i guess. Still finding an app for app's backup and restore for what's app and then will reset my phone to see about it
