Is anyone else using this setup?
I'm not sure if I should be using setcpu to overclock or not...I'm only get about 44 FPS with this kernal and I really don't know what its supposed to be helping. Everything feels about the same as the DC stock kernal.
Anyway, how would you guys go about setting up setcpu on this rom/kernal combo? What kind of battery drain would I get overclocking, or should I just let the kernal stay at the default settings
I am using Fresh ROM 1.0.1 with the latest netarchy 3.7.3c kernel and not using SetCPU or Overclock Widget. I am getting 52 fps.

Nova screen? Your results are definitely better....I'm thinking I should just uninstall setcpu as I obviously don't know what I'm doing with it and don't wanna bork anything.

Yes I used that one, ran fps2d 3 times in a row just now and still getting 42-44 fps.
I reset setcpu back to 998400 which I think is the original settings and still the same thing. It's ok tho, just wondering if people are getting better results using this combo

I am using Damage Control 3.2.3 set cpu and the netarchy kernal (also a nova screen). I ussually get 49-50 FPS. I did not tweak anything with novafreq. Set CPU isn't normally going to change your FPS. It could change your MFLOPS in linpack. I personally use SETCPU to under clock my CPU as a battery saver.
If those are the settings you are talking about in my opinion there is little chance of you "borking" something. Which version of the Netarchy kernal are you using? i remember an older one only averaging 44 FPS. If you dont have the latest one that may help some.

Does anyone know how to over clock you're DI to say 1.2? Thanks for any help.
You first need to root your phone, then install a kernel that is compatible with whatever rom you are using, then you need to install an OCing app like SetCPU and adjust accordingly.
I'm rooted running the 2.2 RUU and I have set cpu. So do I just need a kernal? Which one?
i reccomend King Kernel bfs #4, best freaken kernel ever... its located... here
so when i install this kernal is it ok to just bump the cpu speed up to 1.2? are there any guides to do this?

A lot of factors come into play when you start overclocking, every rom will respond differently.
The first thing to do before anything is to do a complete nandroid back up.
When overclocking keep in mind that the more you overclock the more chances you have of making your system unstable.
I have experimented a quite a bit and I have found that the King Kernal #4 seems to work well for me and at 1.2 it seems to be pretty stable. Any higher than that and my phone will sometimes re-boot itself for no apparent reason.
Again, your rom may handle things different so experiment and see what works best for you.
And remember - Do a complete backup first!
I'm using the number 4 kernal and it only goes to 1.19 is this what you mean by 1.2? I have to keep mine at 1.1 ghz at 1.19 my di gets unstable
Ya that's as high as they can oc these chips. I can only get to 115 safely 119 just crashes. But the charging experience will be better than stock with the BFS #4.

If you are experiencing slow wake up, try increasing the min cpu speed to something around 460. Better batt life and increased speed takes a lot of experimenting. Your OC speed might differ from others due to differences in the phones cpu. For example, I have never been able to oc to 1.19 without the phone freezing or rebooting. My phone can handle 1152 but 1113 is perfect. In my opinion, ROMs have something to due with best batt-speed combo. I am running Ruby 1.1.1 with a setcpu profile of Screen off=245 without any wake lag. Other ROMs I have tried had wake up lag at that speed profile.
My set up:
(ROM-ASOP) Ruby 1.1.1
King's #1 ASOP "I told you so"- only works with ASOP
With the ROM's "Gem" performance scaling setting off, I use setcpu to OC to 1113, min is 245. I have a profile set to SCREEN OFF = 384 max/245 min.
I haven't worried about battery life since I started using King's kernals (I've tried them all with every compatible ROM on xda). I have several posts elsewhere on XDA showing 12 plus hours on a single bump charge and heavy phone use. Good enough for me. Stock cpu speed plus Sense ROM seems slow to me now.....to each his own though.
I hope to get some help because i value the opinions of those on this forum. Currently i am running virtuous 2.7 with virt. kernal v2. I am rooted, s-off, 2.15.xx radio. I want performance without draining my battery. What are the best settings to use in setcpu?
I did try king's kernal #4, but it was rebooting. switched kernals this morning.
One other app I use in conjunction with SetCPU is MinFreeManager. This will readjust your free ram to a higher standard. But with SetCPU I have it at 1113/Ondemand with no custom profiles. One other thing I really don't set is the Set on Boot option. I don't know why but I do. So with SkyRaider Vanilla 3.0 RC3/ KingX Kernel #4/ and MinFreeManager my phone fly's. I can't say for certain what settings you need for your phone but 1113-1115 is preferred by "most" phones and keep the set on boot option off. I keep a Galaxy S live wallpaper running and pandora while browsing the web and no lag what-so-ever.
CyanogenMod 6.0.2 and KingX kernel #1 with the same setup runs almost as smooth.
Hope this helps you out.
I'm about to flash the CM7 RC1 ROM and would like to know, what would be the best kernel to flash with it? I looked into the Savage Kernel and the links are dead. Does Netarchy do a universal kernel that works with all roms?

I am running CM7 with the stock kernel and so far its great. Its fast and the battery life is nice for me. You can go into Settings > CyanogenmodSettings>Performance and change the cpu setting to batterysaver as well.
Man.. first off.. give one of the Nightlies a shot. RC1 was ok for me, but i found that nightly #6 was AMAZING...
Now on to your question... like mentioned above, the one that comes with CM7 is pretty awesome. However, i find that i like the Savage-zen a little more. I am using v1.0 with CFS and SBC and it is WOOOW!!!

yeah and then your phone acts like it is dying everytime you try and do anything.
I much prefer the savaged.zen governor that is based off the smartass governor.
I usually get 2 - 2/12 days with the savaged.zen kernal with SetCPU set on this governor. Though i am about to try out not using SetCPU and using the built in settings from CM and see if they work the same and save me having SetCPU running 24/7. BTW i am running a 1750 MaH battery, same size as stock battery.
Yea I don't use that setting just letting the op know. Let me know how your testing goes. I'm going to try setcpu for the first time.

Mind telling me what version of Savaged.Zen Kernel you are running to get this battery life? BFS or CFS?
Does anyone know if it is necessary to use profiles (ie. screen-off profile) if you're using the savagedzen governor?

You can. Alot of people say it helps alot but some say setcpu isn't helping. Try using the smartass governor and the screen off profile. That way it will underclock the CPU while screen is off. It won't hurt.

I've used other kernels with CM before and it works fine--if that's what your getting at...
As for battery stats, you should be able to do that from recovery. With clockwork mod, its under the 'advanced' menu.

If you are talking about this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848453
Yes that is made for GB roms like CM7. As for wiping battery stats, the debate is out as to whether or not that really does much. I have never noticed anything extra from doing it, but thats my experience with it, your experience could be different.

Yeah its good to put min at 128, helps the screen off profile and with battery life. The max you can make whatever you want, but once you go higher than 1.113GHz then you start going into unstable territory IMO.

Just note that a few users have reported issues with the 128 setting. I haven't experienced any problems getting text messages or missed calls and I'm using this kernel with the 128 setting but just keep it in mind if for some reason you find yourself missing texts and/or calls.
Im curious, if i need any apps like SetCPU or Cpu Tuner for CyanogenMod7.
I think somewhere i did read, that CM7 Kernel is doing all that (like undervolting/underclocking when screen is off), am i right or should i use SetCPU for better battery life?
Also if CM7 kernel is doing it, i guess its not safe to use such app as it would interfere with each other?
Thanks in advance...
I don't know the specifics but the newer CM7 builds have a built in overclocking tool more or less exactly like SetCPU. You can use that. CM7 is pretty good on battery life anyway as I can get 2 days out of it but it depends on my usage. I don't know about the kernel though but you could google it or ask thalmas.

I get up to 4 or 5 days with GingerVillain (It's based on CM7). I'm also using SetCPU, because the CM7 based CPU settings didn't work for me.
I think CM7 is good as is, but you can find OC option in Cyanogen Setting.

SetCPU can modify the processor speed and allow you to set a profiles. However, you're running Tiamat so if you haven't changed anything your default governor is smartass which has a built in screen off profile of 128min/384max.
As far as turning data off, check out ultimatejuice. There is a free version that is limited in what it does, but it might be worth paying for. Also, for battery saving, check out my EVO link in my sig for some undervolting mods.
You can set the cpu governor with a program called setCPU on the marketplace. You can further control the CPU by flashing another kernel. What ROM are you running? Stock? I would try the netarchy kernel (newest version) if you're running a sense-based ROM.. I've found it has phenomenal battery life (medium use i get 15-20hrs) and I'm overclocked to 1.152ghz.
A program called tasker can also make your data connection go off and back on with the screen. I'm unsure how to set the profile but I do know thats possible. Try looking around here: http://tasker.wikidot.com You should be able to find something about it.
EDIT: Nevermind about netarchy, did not see your signature on your ROM and kernel.
ok, so ur on aosp and tiamat. try changing governer to smartass. will give you much better battery life, and you won't have to worry about 'numbers'.
btw the numbers are the cycles per second, or the speed the cpu works at. i personally underclock to 537 (998 is stock) to save a bunch of battery, and it still runs perfectly fine for me (cm7 with tiamat)

Yes, most of the scripts lower by a certain range. So it all depends on the kernel you are running. Some of my scripts (Extreme, Insane, v2 scripts) specify all the voltages so no matter what kernel you're running, it sets the voltages to exact values. If you can go lower than -25 and you're stable, do it!
I find SetCPU unnecessary. I only have it installed because I use it for testing my mods and things, but I that's the only reason. But smartass is good enough for me, no other governors give me as good batter life. Defauly governor on SZ is their own governor (SavagedZen) it's based on interactive, I believe. There is more info on their site.
Tiamat (or any kernel for that matter) don't turn off 3G when the screen is off. You would need an app to do that.

I couldn't agree more. Setting up a basic screen off profile with a conservative setting is useful, otherwise it actually gets in the way of already built in kernel benefits, actually undoing them in many cases. I stopped using setcpu a while ago and my battery life has not suffered at all.
