All this talk of accidental bricking reminds me of my i910 days where if you bricked your phone, all you had to do was hook it up using JTAG and you could reflash whatever you wanted (you do need to know where to get the parts/tools though).
I'm fairly sure that the snapdragon platform on this phone, like almost every other embedded system ever made, has JTAG ports for debugging and the like. Has anyone made any progress towards finding them and using them? Or is it as heavily protected as the rest of the phone's security model? Any info would be great!
I know that in the G1 dev forum there is a JTag thread. You can ask the op seems he found them there. Maybe he's updated to the nexus or dinc and has some snapdragon test points.

The thread in question: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591048
I didn't see anything about snapdragon in there...
I bought a "bricked" DINC for a steal and was hoping to revive it.
Recovery and system both appeared to be toast, but at least I could get into Hboot (S-ON). Well, after trying to apply a couple "Official" Froyo RUUs, I've now also pooched Hboot. The screen no longer comes on and I've verified it's not just the screen, since it's not recognized at all on USB and therefore no fastboot.
I found this JTAG diagram, and info on dedicated repair boxes such as ORT and RIFF, however I'd like to find a cheaper solution. Shouldn't it be possible to use OpenOCD and a Wiggler JTAG? Anyone here with actual experience working with JTAG on the QSD8650.

Ok guys I have learned how to root a phone, many thanks go out to all on here who helped me especially Big Goron, who rooted my first phone for me using team view.
Now I have a serious question.
Today at work I looked at my phone because it buzzed as if I was getting a phone call, what I found next disturbed me a lot, somebody had entered my phone and was looking at everything on it, now I'm not the best at phones yet, but I am pretty handy behind this computer, so I get home plug the phone in a start hunting, what I found is a trace log from a govt computer that as far as I am concerned illegally entered my phone, and being that I am neither democrat or republican I do NOT want the govt in my personal phone, will droid firewall from the market work? Or do I need more security than that?
Apparently....yes they CAN get into a phone.
Since I'm the first to respond to this thread, guess I'll be the generic asshole to ask: What nonsense are you prattling on about?
All I read was a theory with no evidence to confirm such allegations.

What ROM/Kernel combo you on?
How did you tell someone was scanning your phone?

You found a trace log, you say?
Post it.

The charge port on my phone went bad and needed to be replaced. The replacement went smoothly but now it I have no bluetooth or wifi antenna. I get maybe 1 bar indicated if I am a few feet from a wifi hub and bluetooth isn't working at all. I thought it might be something to do with the new charge board so I replaced it again with the same results. If anything it might be even worse now. Any tips on what I should be looking for that is wrong?
Sounds like you broke one thing fixing another . If it's physical damage you need to go backwards and check all your steps and see what happened.
If software issue try reflashing modem.
Pp.
I found the problem and it, which is a simple one, The fix though I think is going to be difficult. A very, very small capacitor is missing from the board. I must have hit it during the charge board change. If I knew the value of the cap I could probably solder a new one on. I have no idea how to find that out though. Here is a picture of the missing part.

A lot of internet digging has turned up the spec on the missing cap-
Samsung part #2203-006665
0.0022NF,0.25PF,25V,C0G,0603, C-CER,CHIP
That particular number is out of stock everywhere but I was able to find an equivalent from DigiKey.com
Samsung #CL03C2R2BA3GNNC
Digi-Key #1276-1403-1-ND
I bought 10pcs @ 2 cents a piece.
Good luck with the soldering,
In case that doesn't work for you maybe this will work for you.
Pp. Lol
Soldered in the microscopic capacitor yesterday and phone is back to 100%!
Okay, so i have a htc one x that has no lcd and digitizer (my fault) problem with that im trying to get past the swipe the unlock part so i can get a few files and toss out the phone. i've been at this for about 3 months now (on and off) with no luck. i've read thousands of posts everywhere and i can't seem to find a solution. Going the adb shell input route seems promising but i can't seem to figure out the xy coordinates. None of this would'nt be a problem with the phone would stop reading the stupid Error code 10 crap with device manager. kinda hopping putting the phone in recovery mode would help but it didnt lol. although they're times where the phone reads for a bit and im able to get a few files out without a problem but sometime later it just tells me to eat a ****. i could ramble on all day about this so question is.. is there anyway someone could help me with adb route or know of a simple interactive mirror display i could use. i just nned to get past the swipe screen and im all good after that. yes usb debuggin is enabled. i turn that on with every phone i get. (rooted phones and etc.. in the past) but forgot everything.
Alright,
I've found a temp solution to my problem and I decided to post it here for everyone else that came across this problem.
THIS IS JUST A TEMP FIX. IF YOU'RE ABLE TO UNLOCK VIA LOCK SCREEN THERE IS NO NEED TO TRY THIS.
I tried to explain it the best i could. if you have any questions just reply to this thread. i'll do my best to help. I decided to post pictures with the explanation in them. Due to this isn't a complicated process and can be done in a very short amount of time.

That's root for regular at&t s7 nougat! Can someone port this for s7 active?
Well, this looks promising.
shouldn't we show this post to activefan01? aka the person who originally got the s7 active root the first time.
i already discussed this in the main root thread ..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71371724&postcount=657
no offence to activefan atall, as he is the one who took the BIG risk and initiative ...
but in Post #85
https://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...3&postcount=85
he stated he actually used a tool called chimeratool
https://chimeratool.com/en/models
to get the root...
but yes that thread does look promising ...
was originally from JUSMEJOSE..
found from this thread ...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...root-s7-edge-t-mobile-released-t3555591/page3
but is promising that its out there so looks promising that theres a s7 active one too.... its just gotta be leaked !
Chimeratool is not a bad tool at all and not that hard to figure out either for someone with limited rooting and unrooting skills and they offer you support in the event you do run into a problem. But sadly a little to pricey for me. I got way too many bills to pay to still be able to afford that too on my very limited part time employment hourly pay. But if I could afford it I could probably figure out how to use it to maybe achieve root for android 7.0 but no garantees though. Basically all you need to be able to use it is the software, the specialty cable that they make you pay extra for, some skills installing firmware on android phones, and some rooting and unrooting skills for android phones which I'm sure most people on this website have by now. This website has been around for a very long time now.

Hey everyone. I've faced with a problem I can't cope by myself. Once upon a time I found out despite the renewal was turned off on my phone that my phone was updated to MIUI 11. I didn't like it so much. It had buggs, terrible design and devoured phones charge like a fish. I lost my nerve and made rollback. so, I lost everything that makes a phone different from a brick with lights. After that I decided to read about ) but It was too late. So, I lost all of system settings due to antirollback policies. What about backup? certainly I hadn't made it. I had one on google drive but It didn't give it to download.
I found some efs files and managed to recover system settings such as wifi, imei, modem, almost everything except the mobile network and the internet. the engineering menu shows the efs is unknown.
It means the efs I recovered my phone isn't suitable for my phone version or I need radio.img in addition to, doesn't it?
I'm going to try input SN number via a special utility into the phone. I don't expect anything from this step, but...
I suppose I need some with radio band settings or something from it. Or I need to find the new EFS files, don't I? I remember the file I'm restoring the phone was the ancient fossil of 2016.
how much does it cost to buy up-to-date EFS? Where could I find them? Where should I look for?
