i had an apps killer program installed, but when i went down the town, i couldn't get any internet/data.
now, i've came back home, i've now uninstalled apps killer.
i'm also online now, as it's using my pc wireles connection.
now, what settings will i have to have switched on so i can get internet when down the street?
thanks.
surely you will only get internet if the phone is picking up a signal?
i went down town today and had no intenet reception as the phone had been stuck in my arse pocket, i turned it off and back on and got an H signal immediatly.
in settings wireless and networks the only option i have checked is MOBILE NETWORK and that says connected.
hope this helps

Hey Y'all
I spent all day trying to figure out why I have lost my internet on my Desire.
I can browse using my wireless, but if I turn off WIFI, all I get is Webpage not available. (On any page I try)
I have been into the APNs to check the settings & they are all ok.
I am with Orange Uk & have an unlimited Internet package.
The little 3g arrows are flashing?
Also I have 70 meg Phone memory & I get a warning if try to intall a 1meg game, saying "Out of Space Program could not be viewed. Free up some space on your phone and try again".
Any help from the experts would be really appreciated.
Thanks
E
I had the same problem with the interent, turned the phone off then on, and internet started working again.
Ok further update.
My emails are working?
I just rang orange & they sent me the settings via text & told me to shut of my phone & remove the battery, then boot it up, & as expected, that did NOTHING!
So I have no idea why I can only browse using WIFI.
Mobile is enabled, I'm not in aeroplane mode, or anything daft like that.

What values do you get if you go:
settings/about phone/network
look at signal strength. might give you a clue.
i'm on orange uk and my desire can be tempremental. it's loads better outside of central london. perfect on wifi. if i'm in a pub in town trying to read the news, or on the bus home, sometimes i get next signal at all.
what i try, and this seems to work sometimes, is turning mobile on/off a few times, or even powering down/up.
ps. it's confusing when you make a statement and then put a question mark at the end (your emails are working? what does that mean - are you asking us, or telling us you're not sure, or what?)
I mentioned this in a different thread...
Do you switch off wifi correctly?
I found that when I am connected via wifi and then go out of range my mobile network can't connect to the internet.
I have to turn of wifi manually every time in order to have the mobile network working.
Usually switching to airplane mode and than back again solves this issue.
The important thing is to always switch from wifi to mobile network manually. It's quite annoying but it's not the end of the world.
Thanks for your replies.
I rang Orange again today, usual call centre.
It turned out in the end that I had lost my WAP settings.
The call centre talked me through setting up the WAP APN settings & the Internet came back.
Don't know how I lost them in the first place?
Hi, I got the HTC desire during the week and all going great so far except issues with connecting to my Wi-fi at home.
On initial setup i had it scan for my wireless signal but had to manually enter it, network is not hidden. 3 laptops, PS3, PSP, DS all have been able to see it and connect in the past. Anyway, connected through WPA and was able to connect to the internet and market fine.
The issue is it keeps dropping the connection, signal bar stays as if connected but all pages timeout. turning the wireless on/off does not resolve, sometimes turning the power on/off will sort it, most times not. I drove to work last night, 25km and it said i was still connected to a network untill i disabled the wireless on the phone in the carpark !!
I have trawled the net and have come across known issues with other HTC devices and wireless networks but most of the fixes i tried have drawn a blank so far, bar hard reset.
Unsure if it is settings in my router or the phone. One thing i did notice is when it was connected and i went to the settings>wireless and networks it was smooth like the usual progs on the phone, but when i cant connect and go to the settings it is serious laggy.
BB is Eircom, netopia router.
Phone is Vodafone.
Any other info needed just ask, could do with a fix for this before i pull my hair out.
edit: downloaded a wifi analyzer app and it says my signal is very weak, even sitting on the router, it is either the router sending the wrong signal or the hardware on the phone i think.
Anyone have to chage their wireless settings on the router to get the desire to connect ? If so, to what ?
Update.
powered off my phone and ran the wifi analyser again, same thing, -98db.(red, no signal)
powered off the phone again, and was hitting -40db sitting on top of the router and ~ -70 2 rooms away(green/yellow) and internet pages were flying, this is what is happening, may stay for 10 mins and go again.
Another update:
I had a good connection so changed the sleep from 1 min to 30, checked the sig strenght every 15 mins, surfed a few pages and all fine. Changed the sleep back to 1 min, let it sleep, came back 5 mins later and wifi dead again. this leads me to taking the router out of the equation and phone based issue.
Wifi issues
Hiya,
I had exactly the same problem with my desire. It is on Orange UK and came withall their crud on it. I spent two days playing around with the router settings and phone settings. I could connect to the router but not use the internet. In the end I followed the links on here to erase the orange crud and install a generic rom. After that the phone connected to wifi internet and telephone internet and switches between them without any problems whatsoever. I did wonder if it was a ploy by the telecom provider to get you to use more of their online data rather than over wifi.

Just curious if this happened to anyone or is it just me: most of the time I'm connected to wifi to save battery (home, school, etc) and when I'm out of range it should automatically connect me to the 3g network but it's not. I check settings and 3g is still enabled. Anyone know why?

I am also experiencing this. This happens to me when I am connected to WiFi with bad or no signal but then when I turn off WiFi and go to a good signal area it still registers no signal until I restart my phone then all is fine. Definitely a major bug.
ive had 2 of these phones, ive never had an issue with this. eh. maybe im lucky
Any solution to this?
Ever since I purchased this phone, I hardly get 3g signal. Will a hard reset fix this problem? I have to go by 4g or wi-fi on this phone for data.

having wifi on will actually kill your battery more because you have another radio running, thats why they give you the option to turn it off. (to save battery)
hmm thats odd though mine turns back on just fine
try a hard reset.
its deff a software issue

Wrong, having wifi on saves power because than your phone doesn't have to ping and search for cell towers
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

+1. Wifi Is definitelya battery saver. I leave wifi on all night at home. I get great battery life. I also never have the problem with 3g either. It always comes back even if I lose wifi signal.
The Evo3D Killer!!!
I noticed this in mine, so I went to Settings->Wireless and Network-> Mobile Network Data and then unchecked 3G and re-checked it and it hasn't had the problem since. Try it and report back.
a lot of users are having this issue along with low speed results on 3g, I read on another forum that Samsung/Sprint are working on it but I'd take that with a grain of salt. I fixed the radio wake up issue on my phone by doing factory reset and then going through the hands free activation again. Haven't had it since.
i'm having this issue too. Turning off wifi, or every time I go in an elevator and loose my 3g signal.
The strange thing though is I had this same problem with my OG Epic for the last two weeks I had it. I flashed back to the current Sprint rom and still had the problem. It was actually the reason I bought the Epic Touch on day 1.
I too am having 3G connection problems
My work is located a mile North of the 101 and Scottsdale and I can't get signal in my building, even if I walk to the big windows.
Of course Phoenix has no 4g so Im S.O.L.
Anyone have a ideal why this is happening? When I am on the Internet 3g sometimes 4g depending on where I am in my house. My Internet dies, I see the 3g icon sometimes the right arrow (up green) but not the left arrow (down orange) under the 3g when Internet dies. So I have to do sometimes is to open a new Window, Even to kick start my youtube app. I have the bookmark Google page. I have to open Google page in a new window to kick the Internet going again, then go back to the window I was trying to open that can't find to open, to get the Internet working again. This kinda started maybe two ago, oh note to add they started with my 4g couple weeks ago in my area, not full. So maybe something to with the towers? Any suggestions will help and thank you all developers for all time,
A little about my phone:
1. Not rooted
2. All My poxxy are all at 0.0.0 etc. -did it months ago, right 0 at the rights spots.
3. My back cover that iam using don't have anything nfc antenna on it, iam sure it dont matter.
4. uag case
5. Setting in settings is on mobile its on cdma/lte I did automatic nothing changed
Thanks again
if they're working on the towers, not uncommon to have network issues.
To get your internet back, just go into airphone mode, and then turn it off. The phone will reconnect.
If it's that bad and inconsistent, you may be able to complain and get Sprint to get you one of those AirWaves thing to let you use your internet to support your phone on the network.

Thanks you for the reply, I'll try that just wanted to make it not my phone.
Hi.
I have m919 T-Mobile Galaxy s4 but I'm with other carrier (Wind Canada).
I spent yesterday in environment where I didn't had coverage for most of the day, but i haven't gotten it back yet. Sounds really weird as it might be not connected to the fact at all. I have 4G connection active, which means that I have internet, but it keeps 'searching' for service and I can't Call/Text anyone, neither I can receive calls or texts. Instead of the bar at the top showing how good coverage i have it just shows a crossed out circle icon.
I've tried reboots, keeping my phone off for 30mins without battery, taking out sim and putting it back in, changing network modes and resetting APN (all from settings panel).
Have anyone experienced something like that and how do I fix it? It was working perfectly for last couple of months and the phone didn't get any damage yesterday neither.

Try to go into settings>more networks>mobile networks>network operators and click "search now".
That will bring up the available networks and you need to choose the network which is your carrier.
It may take a few minutes until it stops scanning so have patience and don't back out of networks.
Good luck!

I've tried that! After a while it finds my network, the coverage bars appear for a while, but then they disappear. During that time when they're appeared I can't make any calls either, once it gave me error that It can't register to network which is weird because my data is running from sim pretty good. Today I tried to go to my operator store to let me try a different SIM card - no change.

Do you have any other suggestions? By the way I rooted the phone about 1.5 months ago if that makes any difference.
I'm really desperate for solution :/

I suggest you reset your device to factory default. If that doesn't work, unroot your device and return to stock. If still it doesn't work, bring your device for warranty.
