Limited stock programs - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know if there is already a group or person working to create a list of stock programs, descriptions, and dependencies? I would like to create an index of such things and potentially a more automated method of selecting what one doesn't want, for removal.
Right now I'm hoping to scrape for info as to what's known as well if there are any non-obvious locations that programs may be loaded from.
My goal isn't to make a ROM, but instead, a supplement.

[App][BETA] Kill**** - process killer

This is my first app for WinCE so please be nice!
Rant
It seems I'm part of a minority of users who understand that mobile devices and PDA's are not designed to run multiple apps at once. You can, but anyone with a decent sense of quality will agree that it's a rubbish experience once you get under 50% free memory. In fact the iPhone by default design doesn't let you multi-task apps (jailbreak changes this) which may be one of the reasons peeps think its a faster device. I say I'm part of a minority because most apps around are coded so that when you hit the 'x' close button they minimize instead of close (even by holding x). Also Windows has no inbuilt mechanisms for keeping your apps closed, and none of the roms I've tried (cooked or otherwise) seem to have these types of tools included.
Disclaimer
Firstly I hope I haven't reinvented the wheel or stolen anyone else's idea. I didn't research for months but didn't find anything like this around so apologize in advance if I upset anyone. Also I provide this tool "as-is" in BETA form - so it could damage your device - so use at your own risk.
Kill****?! What is it?
It is a simple app that kills running processes.
Why would I want it - what's wrong with Task Manager?
A common example is you open up Calc to do divide a dinner bill, lookup how to get home in Google maps, send an SMS to a friend and hit Home key. Then you wonder why the thing is running like a dog. You open task manager and notice you have these 3 freakin apps are open still and taking up your memory. So you're expected to open Task Manager after every time you're finished with an app?...no I dont think so..because you've got Kill****! You manage an exemption file, assign the app to one of your softkeys (or events) and it will quickly, quietly kill all other **** running for you.
How Does It Work?
It stores a text file on disk with names of processes that you wish to exempt. You can manage this via the included config tool. When you run the app (which is a console app) it just kills every running process other than the ones on your exclude list. The exclusion file is stored in your default MyDocuments folder and is called something like "NoofnyKill****.settings". Real simple.
What Do I Need To Run It?
Microsoft Windows Mobile (4 and above)
Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5
How Do I Install It?
Simply run the attached CAB and everything is installed for you. 2 icons are added to your Start Menu (the config tool and the console app itself). The app is installed in the default Programs folder.
How Do I Use It?
If the exceptions file does not exist it will be created new and will contain all of the running process at the time the app ran.
The best instructions are;
1) Have your device in your preferred state with only your basic apps running.
2) Open the config tool from the start menu (Kill**** Config).
3) All of the running processes will list with a check next to them (which 4) means they will be exempted).
4) Click Menu -> Save Exceptions and close the config tool.
5) Assign the console app (KilL****.exe) to one of your softkeys or other buttons using your favorite tweak tool.
What Else Do I Need To Know?
I am not responsible for anything negative or positive this app will do to you, your device or life. Use at your own risk. I have not tested this app well and can only guarantee that I have fundamentally screwed something up. If anyone does use it and wants help I will do my best but try to help by giving as much detailed info as possible when reporting any bugs. I'm open to suggestions and are planning to put the source code up here if anyone shows interest.
That's about it - hope it makes someone's life a little brighter.
Hi!
This looks interesting. Is there anyway to cook this into a ROM properly? I dont like to have users make a file in their my documents folder.
Cheers

Thanks...i can have the file live anywhere really, I just chose MyDocuments cause its easy and accessible. It's easy to even have them define in the config tool where they want to save the settings. I'm new to mobile dev and the whole rom cooking thing, so could you expand about what would be needed to cook this app into a rom?
actually after giving it more thought it would be more practical to store this in the registry. I chose to use a text file at first because I was not going to bother have a config app and you could modify it using notepad or something.
In registry would be the most preferred method yes.

Ideas Thread

I decided it might be a good idea to have a thread to post ideas because the "What we have tried and where to go from here" thread is very over crowded with questions.
Post any ideas you have below and WHY it might work.

* Make a web interface for accesing the Kin
Might work if the right guy makes libraries compatible with windows(i asked already).
If they do, or i'm able to do, i will keep going with it, so it's available for anyone with few steps for configuring (and extend). Btw, it's done on javascript & html so i guess people with only that knowledge could change the skin or behaviour if wanted.
* Make a web interface for the kin (so "webapp"?)
Don't see the point, but some say it's a great stuff. Might work if you care about making it. In the end is just take all with a css for the kin screen.
* Dump the movinand chip using (e)MMC protocol with right pin-outs
Might work as someone here already did for samsung smartphones (with movinand) using UART (so serial cable like). I tested and our SBL (LS+POW mode) doesn't answer OK or in a right way through USB to the MMC command protocol so... i guess that's not the way.
1. Make a web OS for the KIN's browser.
This would allow us to make a web based software that would be better than the KIN, but this wouldnt get us anywhere in hacking the KIN.
2. Create a web apps market.
Might be useful for anyone who wants an app store, this would be close. I like the idea of it. =)

Far far far too many scripts on website.

Guys
I run firefox with noscript on my home desktop.
I won't allow unknown third party scripts as no-one ever wants to take responsibility if they cause a problem on my PC.
XDA has, in my opinion, a bad problem as it has scripts that call scripts that call scripts et al.
I don't know where these scripts come from or what they're needed for, as a consequence your website won't run until the scripts are enabled (page just keeps refreshing) so I only access through my tablet.
It would be much better practice if I needed just the one script to access your website from desktop, then there's a lot less chance of security issues.
Please consider changing your current setup.

I have scripts disabled and the pages load just fine.
I've never experienced this. @svetius
Noscripts is very useful agreed but as in any case it is our discretion.
This is developer forum and our guys are good in making and breaking things . So subject to experimentation.

[Q] Definitive Apps --> APKs list

There are various threads floating around for this and other devices stating "Apps safe to freeze...."
However I have yet to be able to find a good and comprehensive list of what apps relate to what apks.
I'm looking at doing my own custom rom, purely for my own use and want to make the decision whether I include an app (and therefore it's apk) or not, for me to make an informed choice I'd really quite like to be able to say......
OK That apk runs that app and that app is needed to do this this and this, however I never do any of those things.....but it's also needed as it support connectivity with that app so I should keep it (hopefully you get the point of the example). So a blind "Apps safe to freeze....." list, that doesn't even include the associated apks or information is pretty useless to me.
Anyone?

[Q] Need something to make this app easily and quickly.

I need some help with an app I'm developing. It's a farm/ranch management app that sets notifications in your calendar to remind you to do essential tasks as well as events that should occur on that day (i.e. insert nesting box, kits due today, etc.). I plan on starting with one or two animals and adding updates later to include any animal that might be on a standard farm. I've attached some screens of what I want my design to look like that i made in photoshop below. If anyone has any recommendations as to which coding software I should use or how to implement features I would greatly appreciate it.

In order to better supply an answer, it would be beneficial for me to know your background. Do you have any software development experience? Coding Languages? Etc.

I work for Kinetise.com, which might be just what you need. You can make fully functional apps (including adding items to the user's calendar, which you said you needed) without writing a single line of code, and they are purely native. You can try the editor without even registering (and download an test app on your phone as well, it will just expire in 24 hours if you don't upgrade it), so give it a try.
