[Q] Definitive Apps --> APKs list - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are various threads floating around for this and other devices stating "Apps safe to freeze...."
However I have yet to be able to find a good and comprehensive list of what apps relate to what apks.
I'm looking at doing my own custom rom, purely for my own use and want to make the decision whether I include an app (and therefore it's apk) or not, for me to make an informed choice I'd really quite like to be able to say......
OK That apk runs that app and that app is needed to do this this and this, however I never do any of those things.....but it's also needed as it support connectivity with that app so I should keep it (hopefully you get the point of the example). So a blind "Apps safe to freeze....." list, that doesn't even include the associated apks or information is pretty useless to me.
Anyone?

noobs android rom security question

hi, sorry if this isn't the right place, but wasn't sure where to post.
if i were - for example - a malicious android rom maker - i could add routines, backdoors etc etc into the rom i push out for evil intent. for example i see so many apps in the market wanting fine location (gps) permissions, and reading of phone data contacts when it shouldn't need it. the worst part is, i wouldn't know as any backdoors would be ingrained into the system.
so how do i know that roms out don't do this at all?
bump for an aswer?

A tl;dr version : You don't know, and can't tell easily.
The full version: If you go for a ROM from a trusted and reliable person, you should be OK. It's fairly hard to check everything, but it is possible. You just need to be careful...
Droidwall is potentially of use if you want to block internet access, though obviously it would only be of use if you could whitelist the apps you WANT to ALLOW, as a malicious app wouldn't necessarily get blacklisted by you.
This isn't fool-proof though, as someone could (in theory) put something in a system app. But there is the issue of the fact that someone with skills to do that wouldn't be doing such a thing, as they have better things to do with their time, and they wouldn't dream of doing it.
For ultimate safety, compile yourself from AOSP sources
So basically, you can't tell, but just stay away from ROMs from new users with no history, or people who may have "shady pasts", and it should be OK.

If you have noticed apps going missing on Google Play in the updates list, read this!

For anyone that is reading this,I encourage you to get Google's attention for this utter nonsense and join together to show some backlash against these changes.
I found out about this because I was neglecting to update some listed apps because the changes of the apps weren't worth the update yet.
Recently I noticed a few of the apps I know had updates to them mysteriously vanished from the updates list on my Android Shield TV Pro (2015),which is still on Nougat OTA 6.3, and I couldn't figure out what was going on for a bit.
So when I found out they were suddenly listed as incompatible on Google Play via an already installed Opera for Android web browser that I commonly use,I had to message the app developers.
One of those apps I helped brainstorm a few features for ,so I am fairly acquainted with one of the devs more than the other app developers that I also notified via e-mails.
Turns out, they have to go through some new survey/review garbage now in order to pass a test designed for the most lax Shield TV users (users that never side-load anything and never use a keyboard on it,or users who only use a small number of apps).
Sorry if this offends any users that don't do a bunch of extra things on their Shield TV,its Google messing with Android TV again which causes more extensive users to suffer.
The attached image shows what stuff every app must do in order to become "eligible" to be accessible on a Shield TV.
That means, any abandoned old app that was previously listed more-or-less or any app that the developers don't want to update to make it compatible or "eligible" or any app that the developer is too lazy to even bother with making it compatible again will be locked away from proper updates if they were previously listed on Google Play as compatible for being possible to install/update directly.
The biggest problem in all of this mess is that anyone on the Oreo update is stuck with that stubborn and extra difficult untrusted app sources change that makes it basically impossible to install many apps due to them failing to show up in the list that comes up for allowing you to install each app that you wish to side-load.
I encourage anyone that reads this to help get Google's attention for this utter nonsense and give them some backlash.

Question [ROOT] [TASKER] [APP] OnePlus Parallel App Installer

Hey all,
I was at recently looking for an app to add unsupported apps to OnePlus's Parallel Apps feature, and found that there were only two ways to do it -- manually install them via a pm command, or use an Xposed Module. In response, I went ahead and made a Tasker App/Task that will list all your raw package names, allow you to select multiple, and it will install a clone of the selected apps. It needs root because it invokes the pm command on-device.
I couldn't find a convenient way to list apps via their titles, or filter out system apps without making the Task much more complex, but you can type in the filter bar and find your apps that way. I made this in like 20 minutes and decided to share, I'm sure someone could iterate on it and make it smoother.
If you use this, FLIP THE SWITCH ON A STOCK PARALLEL APP FIRST. When I first used the pm command to make a parallel app, it didn't work because I hadn't used the official feature yet. Then, when I did, it screwed up the profile, and certain apps wouldn't work. Use at your own risk.

You could use oasisfeng's island app. Will work even on a phone that doesn't have parallel apps. Works great

Island is nice, but it requires setting up a Work Profile -- a solution I don't particularly like, and won't work for people who have a work profile for their actual work. Plus, I didn't see any reason to not tap into OnePlus's included solution. Options are always good.
Similarly, Shelter is a FOSS app that works via a Work Profile, like Island.

Very nice, I wasn't aware of Shelter. Thanks!
Working fine on OOS 12.1
Is ther any changes in command line or same as old to remove --user 999?
Asked bcoz getting error while removing "user 999"! Could anyone tell me how to remove user 999? I created parallel apps, but no option to delete user 999.

[QUESTION] Minimalist Lineage OS Build? (cherry pick apps for custom GApps-like package)

(first time on XDA, let me know if this should be on a different thread, or if I should add any tags)
Hi!
Intro/Plea for Help:I have found partial and indirect answers to some of my questions, I'm hoping someone can help with my particular situation and answer all questions clearly, in one place. Maybe someone could answer these questions off the top of their head, whereas I would have to do lots of reading to figure it out. At a minimum, if someone is able to answer if this is a realistic goal or not, that would be great!
What I'm trying to do:I want to turn my smartphone into a dumbphone (with select additional apps). I think the best way to do that is by installing lineage OS and removing any apps or features I don't want. But I don't know what apps/features are safe to remove without breaking the functionality of the things that I want to keep. Ideal scenario is I could install Lineage OS with exactly these apps, nothing more and with no ability to add any apps. So its not entirely "dumb", but is limited in the sense that you would have to plug your phone into your computer in order to add an app (more context at the bottom, in case it helps)
Questions:
Big question: if there is a GApps package, could you build a package that removes some of those and adds the additional apps below and then install it the same way you would install GApps? If so, can someone either build it for me or show me how? I have friends who may want to do the same thing and I could help them do it if I knew how to.
Is there anything missing from the list below that would cause stuff on the list not to work properly?
If you're phone only had these apps and wasn't capable of installing any new apps, what other stuff doesn't work? (i.e. updates, maybe syncing calendar/messaging/contacts to the cloud? idk...)
If you want to have the below list of apps and make it nearly impossible to add any others, is this the best way to do it? What others steps could you take to make it really difficult to install apps? Do you know of other methods that would work better?
other questions may arise during the process but that's a start

More Context:
I enjoy projects like this and a regular dumbphone doesn't meet the crucial intersection between what I need and what I'm trying to get rid of. I need some features on my phone to function day to day (navigation, apps for school and work, Google Home), but I really don't want other stuff on my phone (internet browser, play store, social media) because it is getting in the way of my values. This is a big part of my effort to develop healthier habits, maybe other people can sympathize with that. Simpler ways of blocking these things can be worked around too easily and I don't have the sheer self-control to just not use them (others may relate with these dilemma as well). The hope is that this will be annoying enough to make it not worth it, or to give me time to ask myself if its really what I want.

Question Any way to change device ID on a per-app basis? If not, any reliable device ID changing apps or magisk modules?

Trying to use an app and get a promotion I sent another email of mine. The app says my device already used the promo so it can't be used with my other account. I was hoping there would be an easier way to do it other than editing the system file, and the apps I've seen (including app cloning) don't really seem to be geared towards what I'm trying to do. I also looked at a few threads on other device forums here and they recommend an LSposed or Edsposed framework, which I would like to avoid. If there's an easy app or module I could download to do this, that would be preferred. Or a way to do it per-app even if it's more involved.
