Question about Offical ROM Flash - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I just got my HTC Desire today. It's unlocked and unbranded. The thing is, it came with the Asian ROM, and I want to have a WWE ROM on it.
I want to have this official ROM on it: RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
If I run it, I get the Customer ID error obviously. I did some searching on the site but got a bit confused so need some clarification.
So, my question is do I need to root my device to flash this ROM ? or I need to follow this Gold Card Method to flash a WWE official ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715815&highlight=flash+official+rom
Despite a great job done by our beloved developers to bring up Android 2.2 on the HTC Desire, some of us (incl me) will miss 2.1 with HTC Sense UI.
Guide below shows how to quickly and easily revert that change.
IMPORTANT: You will need your GOLD CARD to avoid "Error 131. Customer ID error".
If you formatted your GOLD CARD or haven't got one please find the complete guide how to create it on the
Forum/HTC Desire/Desire Android Development/[TUT]Complete upgrading guide(root, unroot, flashing ROM & updates) and create a new one.
Be patient! Either options takes approximately 10 minutes to reflash your Desire.
There are two ways to downgrade 2.2 to original HTC's 2.1:
1. From your mobile using Micro SD card
* Go to: http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
* Download your Desire's *.zip ROM file on the PC(I couldn't find *.zip one on XDA site)
* Rename downloaded file to PB99IMG.zip
* Insert your Micro SD card with GOLD CARD on it to your phone or card reader
* Copy ROM file to that Micro SD card
* Insert your Micro SD card with GOLD CARD and PB99IMG.zip ROM file to your Desire
* Press "Back Arrow" button and "Power" button to start BOOT LOADER
* Wait until your Desire will recognize HTC ROM and press "Volume UP" button to confirm the installation
* Press "Volume UP" again to reboot
* Done
2. From the PC
* Insert your GOLD CARD Micro SD card to your Desire
* On the PC download your ROM *.exe from
Forum/HTC Desire/Desire Android Development/[ROM] Official HTC Desire RUU ROMS and OTA Update URLs
* Connect your phone to your PC over the USB cable
* On the phone select HTC Sync for USB connection type
* Start downloaded HTC *.exe ROM loader
* Follow the instructions
* Done
Your Desire should reboot after that and boot up normally with HTC logo.
Now you can remove your GOLD CARD and replace it with the Micro SD card you using for your stuff.
In my case 2nd option didn't work but hell knows why.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Or is there any other method?
Thanks in advance

For flashing stock roms you only need goldcard.

[Q] HTC Desire how to create gold card without phone?

I attempted to manually update to Froyo on a rooted (came to me that way) HTC Desire.
I used the manual method described at geekword.net (google for it, I can't post links)
Unfortunately, I didn't know I was meant to use a gold card for the update.
So what I ended up with is a failed Froyo update, after the post-update reboot, the progress count will never get to 100%, as the phone goes into a reboot loop.
This wouldn't be an issue if I could reattempt the update with a gold card - unfortunately, in its current state the phone can't even see the sd card for whatever reason - the card isn't corrupt as I can continue to run the update.zip file from it - not that it helps.
With the phone connected to the PC, I don't have option to mount as disk drive. I can get the CID using Klutsh's Gold Card tool, but because I can't mount the phone, I can't copy the gold card image over.
Is there anyway to get the image over to the sd card and complete the gold card creation without going via the phone?
I dont really know for sure what the answer is to your problem mate but in the hope of getting this thread started I would be looking to download the original branded ROM and restore it through the bootloader menu so that you can start over. This may or may not work but its what I would be researching first.
When i made my gold card, i had the MicroSD in the phone to get the CID, but then i wrote the image to it using a MircoSD-to-SD adapter, just using the built in SD card reader on my laptop. Hope this helps.
JP
jamesmcuk > I tried a stock Telstra rom (this is an Aus phone) found online, it came back with something along the lines of 'wrong bootloader version'. I have a feeling that bootloader for the phone was upgraded either during the first root (by the previous owner) or upgraded when I updated to Froyo.
Are there any official rollback methods for failed Froyo updates?
JPDyno > Could you please outline the procedure used to copy the image over to the micro SD? I have a goldcard.img file from the procedure that I've performed to date. Do I copy the img file over using a imageburner? Do I need to partition the sd card or anything? Kinda lost as to the steps since I thought the Klutsh tool would take care of the copying for me - but it needed connection to the phone.
Thank you both for your replies, hopefully I don't have a fancy brick on my hands
Your phone should have come with a MicroSD card adapter, which looks like a normal sized SD Card, with a slot at the back to insert your microSD into. So you take out your MicroSD card from the phone, slide it into the small slot on the adapter, and slide the adapter into your SD Card reader slot on your laptop/desktop. If you dont have an SD Card reader slot you'll need to get a USB SD or microSD card reader. Once you plug it in it'll automatically detect the card as a disk drive in My Computer. Then you can follow the steps in the Goldcard Guide (install and run the Hex Editor...open the disk drive and the img in the Hex editor and copy stuff over...yada yada...)
Just out of interest does it still do a constant reboot if you remove either or both the SIM and the SD Card.
Also I found this guide for restoring the Nexus 1 which being so similar should contain some good info although you will need to find the ROM for the desire rather than the ones they post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614850
Yay, got it working!
Thanks for the prompt replies guys.
I followed the suggestions here (in using the sd card reader on my laptop), and used the steps starting with HxD from:
android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard
I managed to get a goldcard, and successfully updated to froyo!
p.s. the phone reboots even without a sim card - never tried without the sd card though - I needed it since the update.zip was from the sd.
Now onto exploring Froyo!
For all of those still wishing to make a goldcard sans phone, you can also find it here

Get CID
At first I could not get the CID as well. The problem was, that I was in Fastboot mode. After changing into Recovery mode, I was able to use "adb shell" and then cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid to get my CID.
So now you can start to make your own Goldcard.

[Q] Installed nexus rom on desire, now its not working

Hello all.
I am stupid I know. But I installed the evil nxsense HD v.0.9 on my HTC desire, didn't know it was for nexus.
So now my phone is *Edit*, I can only enter the Hboot and recovery menu, but cant restore my backup. I can also mount to usb so I can connect it to my computer.
Is there any hope, and what can i do?????
Drmalle
Boot into fastboot and flash an oficial ruu...u will need to re-root after that.
Thanks cris you just gave me hope
How will I know which ruuu rom to use, I google it, and found ALOT.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667[/url]
found some here, any of them?
Does anyone know where to get the official htc desire ruu rom in zip. I can only find RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed, and that can only work if your phone is alive..
I need the rom you can flash in recovery???
Drmalle
Boot into fastboot on phone. Run ruu on windows (with phone attached to USB)
OR
Download this:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
Rename it PB99IMG and copy it to your sd card. Then just boot the phone into HBOOT (turn on whilst holding volume down) and follow the instructions
I ran the RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE in windows, and now the phone works.
So thank you everybody who helped.
BUT it cant find the sd card now, it says insert sd card. how do i fix that?
Drmalle
Take it out of the phone, format it in Windows (assuming you have a card reader and a micro to SD card adapter), put it back in phone and see if it works.
If not, it may be corrupt
Well i don't have that, can i just buy a new one and insert? or is there and other way.
Buying a new one is the quick way, but then again you could just buy/borrow a micro sd to sd adapter and use a PC with a card reader in it...
Ok thanks, im on my to my Friend
Who has a card reader, so hope it will work

Brick - stop at boot logo, no recovery

Hello!
I have the HTC Desire (Amoled), was taken root, has been installed firmware LeeDrOiD. Checking for updates is disabled. At one point the phone in a shirt pocket reboot, and ... Booting hangs at boot logo. When you start the recovery - the same screen boot logo.
At the same time received:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
Tried to flash all of the available WWE RUU, just tried to flash through PB99IMG.zip. Regardless of the success / failure load firmware, the result does not change - then boot logo is not loading, recovery is not available.
Read many threads about brick, boot loop - everything is solved through firmware RRU. In my case it does not help.
Has anyone encountered similar? Are there any solutions (apart from the service center)?

However, the decision to reflashing does not help me.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Try to flash this:

or this:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
and root again.
i have same problem

Yes it is possible. You would need another phone that accepts a MicroSD card or use a USB card reader (if you have one)/Laptop card reader. Upon purchasing your SD card, did you not receive a MicroSD card adaptor? simply place the MicroSD card into that, then insert into your laptop card reader. Then follow the steps for creating the Gold Card tool in my sig below.

As I already said, flashing through the RUU does not change anything.
I tried the same release 159811 - nothing has changed.
Ani ideas?
Ive encountered the same thing, what i did was using another Desire to create goldcard (same vendor handset) and flash the RUU just fine.

[Q] Help! I wiped everything from HTC Desire.

Hi, please help I was messimg around in the recovery menu and some how I wiped the whole Htc clean. There is no os. I tried for a few weeks now but cant get any help on how to install a os. Everytime I try to install rom or origenal os it says aborted.
Any help will be great.
Thank you.
PS the phone wont sync.
If you wiped os, then there is no os and appl to sync against.
Few weeks? !
Go to Shipped roms. Htc Desire is Bravo. Find PB99IMG image you want to use. I would choose:
PB99IMG_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2_29_405_2_Radio_32_49_00_32U_5_11_05_27_release_151783_signed.zip
Then boot into recovery (power+back keys at the same time).
Then map sd card as usb and copy above file then rename it as PB99IMG.zip
Unmount sd. Take battery out, put it back and just press power.
Waitt until all is loaded and phone restart.........
If you have no custom recovery put sd card into reader and copy zip.
If more help needed, ask! !
Thank you all for the help will try now.
Then map sd card as usb and copy above file then rename it as PB99IMG.zip
How do I do that? Im dumb with these things.
No joy. It says.
CID incorrect
Update fail.
????
That means the RUU you tried needs a goldcard to enable you to flash it.
What ROM did your phone originally come with? Is it branded?

[Q] No Boot, no ADB, no Recovery, only fastboot need a Goldcard.img file

After trying to get back to the original stock rom i missed a step now have
only fastboot so cant create a goldcard (on orange UK) can any one post the gold card img file please or tell me where to download, so I can try and recover my phone.
Help would be very appreciated -thanks
Hello.
1)To create a gold card follow this: http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html . You don't need your phone to make a gold card, since it is unique by card and not by phone. In conclusion no one could send you the .img file that will work with your SD card. You need to make it.
2)After making the card, try and extract the PB99IMG from the latest RUU WWE 2.29.405.5 and put it in the root of SD. Here it is how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 (2nd post). After this go to hboot (Vol Down + Power) and the hboot should load the RUU and bring you to stock.
Hope this helps.
I used my galaxy tab to get Id off the card and a windows gold card tool to make a 2gb gold card and I have tried 3 differnent PB99IMG file and most ruu and all i get is CID error everytime. I can't root cos the phone won't boot. Also recovery mode is dead so cant do a restore. Theres no Orange Ruu so I take it its totaly bricked than and has to go back to Orange ?
Hey man... dont use goldcard tool.. instead .. do this..
Format your memorycard in 1 single fat32 partition.... put your memory card in your samsung tab....
got to market
search for goldcard helper..
this app will give you your memorycard reverse CID...
Once you got this go to below link
