[REQ] Nexus One (aka Stock) Lock Screen - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am hoping a few other people will join me in hunting down the elusive vanilla lock screen that works with the stock rooted 1.47 ROM.
I am aware that Flipz has one that works with his and DC's ROMs, however, it does not work with the stock rooted ROM. The layout of the lock screen is vertical. It is very odd.
This seems like a simple fix, and I am certainly willing to contribute with testing, etc. So, if anyone has any free time and is looking for a project, I would love to see a functional vanilla lock screen.
Thanks in advance!

Ditto love to get rid pf sense lock screen

This is a flashable theme zip from DC. It should work with any ROM. Make sure you backup before flashing, you never know what can go wrong.
Give this a try. Make sure to delete HtcLockScreen.apk from /system/app/.

push this into the /system/framework/ and remove the HTCLockScreen.apk from /system/app/
Edit: Sorry the file is too large to upload. use the zip in the above post

I think he meant to attach something. The .zip is a flashable zip, yes.

Didn't work.
I pushed the zip file into the system framework. I went into shell, then ran a chmod 6755 command.
The zip installed, but again, the lock screen is vertical.

Ah, well it installed like I said, but the lock screen was vertical. I'm restoring right now, but then I'll try to install via recovery.

The zip file did not work. Vertical lock screen. Restoring again.

Maybe you aren't deodexed?

I am not, hence why in the OP I state I am looking for a lock screen that works with the stock rooted rom.
Why wouldn't it work even if it is for deodexed roms?

Edit: I just check his website. There are no stable mods nor are there experimental mods for the EVO.

It's a nightly build that's was just posted a couple hrs ago. There is a thread here in this forum with it

Well, thanks for the heads up! I may install tonight. However, your post was not on point.
I may try CM6 when it is released, but I rather like the setup I have now. It's a stock rooted rom and today I successfully pushed the vanilla android messenger, calculator, music, clock and browser apps.
I think the vanilla lock screen is far more functional, albeit less attractive.

Wow my prior post did not make sense lol. I believe CM6 has the Vanilla Lock Screen.

can anyone tell me how to delete the HTCLockScreen.apk from /system/app/ if it's read only? i tried chmod'ing it in terminal but it still says read only

I always see the interest in the vanilla lock screen but I never understood why. I tried it on fresh and it doesn't give you a snippets of the text message on the front before you unlock. What's the advantage of the vanilla lock?

the only reason i like it is being able to go to silent mode without unlocking or holding the power button down. you can also just hit menu and it'll unlock without having to slide.

You need full root with nand unlocked. You could use root explorer and mount as r/w. Alternatively you could reboot into recovery and use adb shell to delete the apk.

You can get a vanilla lock by deleting HTCLockScreen.apk. That apk is basically HTC's custom lock screen, removing it shows the android 'vanilla' one. Here's how:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.apk HtcLockScreen.bak
exit

when u do root u do keep the stock rom. its not like the g1 where u had to flash a rom. on our phone u don't have too.

There are a couple custom roms that are basically the stock rom rooted, and maybe just s few extras.
Hey I tried CR's new OTA rom but I can't seem to delete any apks from /system/app. Makes me feel like im not rooted
Did you try doing it from recovery or when the phone was booted? I've always done it in recovery, mounting the system partition, and then launched adb shell.

That's a good question and I don't know if any of us has a definite answer, if we did I'm sure some one wuold have figured out how to bypass it (not the overlay method). It's just how HTC or T Mobile set it up *sigh*
For now we have to do all system writes via recovery
This is what has kept me from rooting. I loved having the freedom with my G1 to do what ever I wanted when I rooted but its almost like even after rooting the slide your still not really rooted. You can get SU but if you try to delete a system app from the terminal emulator you cant. Once we have true root status I'll probably root.
I am pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that we still dont have a "true root". The /system folder is set to read-only or something along those lines when not in Recovery.

Yeah, it's one major thing I hate, would be nice to have rw access on /system while booted - without creating sym. links or doing an overlay. Damn you NAND!!!

[ROM][11/09/2010] Desire Z Sense on the G2 via HBOOT (r2)

This is an hboot flashable version of the Desire-Z ROM built for the G2. If you're rooted and know what you're doing with hboot, read on. To install, rename the download to PC10IMG.zip and place it at the root of your sdcard, then reboot into hboot. It'll flash ONLY SYSTEM and BOOT. I'll post more details shortly but everything I am testing works. Sorry for the crappy picture, I am frantically typing to make things happen.
http://twitgoo.com/1qjp6v
Quick overview (this is way below my normal release quality but I've not had much time and am rushing a bit):
Pre-rooted with Superuser from ChainsDD.
Busybox installed in /system/xbin.
Removed apps to allow the ROM to fit on the G2:
AdobeReader.apk
amazonmp3.apk
FlashLitePlugin.apk
FlashLitePlugin.odex
install_flash_player.apk
Maps.apk
Quickoffice.apk
SoundHound_Freemium_2.1.2b.apk
Stock.apk
Stock.odex
teeter.apk
teeter.odex
YouTube.apk
Most of these apps can be installed from the Market. Everything else is completely stock as it exists on the Desire-Z.
THIS IS NOT MEANT FOR JOE AVERAGE USER. PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE. IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HBOOT FLASHING THEN STEER CLEAR UNTIL WE HAVE A FUNCTIONAL RECOVERY.
LINKS PULLED AS THIS ROM IS NOW OBSOLETE. Visit the following thread instead:

Enjoy!
FIRST i hope.....
downloading and flashing now
Would i be able to root it after flashing it with the current g2 method ?
Bring virtuous to the g2 please
yay... this is all I wanted
also thank you!!!
Thanks for this i'm downloading now
Absolutely awesome. Thanks so much for this.
So if we're already rooted should we just install visionary to get root first then lock it in?
This is going to be fun...

That's exactly what I did. Uploading another version now which has less removed and is pre-rooted.
rmk....Ive been following what youve been saying about the rom on irc since sense 2.0 on my g2 is all i wanted.
could you possibly post a "change log" which would just list things that youve removed from the rom that people might want to know (search app, etc).
Also, is the rom working as fast as the g2 worked or is it like when we first put sense on the g1?
Third to last question, in case something goes wrong with installation or if I want to go back to the vanilla, is there a rom I can flash to go back to vanilla or am I stuck with desire z rom until someone makes one? Also do we have to clear data/cache like we normally do before flashing another rom or what?
second to last question, by installing in hboot, you mean rebooting into hboot then going into recovery to install or what do you mean?
Last question, are the keys mapped correctly or are they desire keys?
Please answer these questions, I want to make sure I know what I am getting into before I plunge. Thanks for all the work!!
P.S - sorry for all the questions.

Yeah of course, it's completely different software. Rule of thumb= similar software(plain froyo->plain froyo), no wipe; different software(sense -> stock, stock -> 2.3, etc), wipe

the g2 overclock will be lost when flashing the z boot img. however if u know how to compile from source here is a oc and voltage changed boot that will work on sense

That's what I suggested. You also suggested the added step of unrooting and rooting again though I think that's completely unnecessary and would be a huge PITB just to get the calendar back. There's no need to throw unrooting into the mix. He should just flash the (rooted) stock ROM.

You can't just install calendar.apk because its a system app.
You would have to push it to /system/app then run fix permissions.
Flashing the stock ROM through recovery would be easiest.

Assuming it's a sense rom, I would just download any sense rom, then push it via adb to the /system/app folder, chmod 0744 {filename.ext}. Done.
If it's AOSP, then same instructions, but grab an AOSP rom.
I would just reflash the rom you flashed originally. Wipe Dalvik/Cache and you should be good to go.

Change Navigation Bar size to 24dpi (stock-rooted ROM)

I love my new Nexus but that horrible navigation bar kept bugging me. I don't hate the bar but the size was just aweful. Since this is my first Android device, I wanted to keep it stock. I did try a couple of ROMs but went back to stock. I kept trying to figure out how to reduce the size of the navigation bar. I tried a couple of programs. They were buggy. So, finally, shinta86 pointed me to http://chromloop.com/2013/07/how-to...on-bar-in-cyanogenmodcm10-1-on-nexus-4-guide/ that had instructions on how to decompile, change, and recompile framework-res.apk file. I gave it a go and bam, my navigation bar is smaller now. I chose to go with 24dpi. In case you would like it, I have included a link to framework-res.apk.zip file. Your device has to be rooted. You will have to replace framework-res.apk file in /system/framework with the one that you download from my link.
As with other things posted on this forum, please proceed with warning. I am not responsible for any damages to your device.
Proof of the labor:

So everyone, if you are using Minimus ROM, use this framework to get 32 DPI navbar.

I have the same problem, i tried pushing the files using one of the Toolkits and 2 file exploring apps, and couldn't get it to work.
In fact, i got a bootloop when i tried to push the file with the file explorers. I already checked the SuperSu status, made sure the file has the same permisions the original apk has, but nothing works.

The file I posted is for odexed ROM. I will try and post some instructions soon.
Using Root Explorer go to your edited framework-res.apk on your SD long press it and select copy then navigate back to system/framework and "paste" your edited framework-res. It will ask you if you would like to "overwrite" the current framework-res, select yes. After that flo will reboot.
If you don't have Root Explorer, it is a must for Root Users and you can find it in the Play Store.
Also, remember to backup your original framework-res.apk.
Or... Go LMT, which solves the whole problem and screen space!

My Bonestock ROM has it as well..
If you don't want to run a custom ROM, I could try and make you a .zip to get it working on your current set-up.

let me know.

I'm really trying to stay on the stock rom so if you had the time and were willing to make a zip for it, I would be forever in debt to you and I'm sure there are some others who would definitely appreciate it as well
I'm really not all that familiar with adb and fastboot (I know I need to learn) the only things I've ever really flashed is in recovery and I didn't really want to flash any of the other mods because they weren't specifically for our phone and I don't really want to screw anything up considering im pretty new to this

is only the .apk needed for it to work? I can't remember if more needed editing.
I know that Messaging.apk will most likely have an issue.
But I can edit the EPS.apk if he has this issue.

That is all he needs. The xml is already edited inside the apk to work with vzw.
Another dumb question, but do I need to install the apk through recovery? Can't get it to install from on phone

It's an apk that has to be pushed to your system priv-app folder. Have root explorer or even terminal can move it if you know the commands.

I made this thread for this very reason.

You want to put it in the priv-app folder.
Then just flash in recovery.
I went ahead and made it for you, I attached it, just flash in recovery.
