to root or not to root?? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys noob here are there any solid benefits to rooting if i like the stock rom w/ sense??
can someone tell the difference??

this has been discussed in huge detail numerous times, if you like the stock ROM and you have no need for anything root then you have no need to root, i personally like the stock ROM but i need to tether so i root and wait for CM6 while using a custom ROM of my own

Looking for a simple vanilla rom

Ive rooted my phone, and now would like tto put back on the same rom that came with the phone, but keep root. Is that possible? if so which rom is it?
Thx
you can only ever install a rooted rom, if you do not then you will lose your root.
so if you install your unrooted stock rom then yes you will lose your root.
the stock rooted rom is the generic htc rom, it would be the rom that came with the phone only with root access.
yeh i know thats y im using modaco, but i wondering if there was a clean rom based off the main one?
modaco custom rom, i think its at r3.1
a cleaned up and improved version of the generic htc rom, currently using it now and is flawless
you can find it in the development section
have a problem where my widgets dont add themselves to the widget screen using that rom for some reason
thats definitely not a common issue with the rom
make sure you wipe cache/data before installing the rom
Unroot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6710092&postcount=4, near the end or the video tutorial at the end of the first post)
Then just follow the normal steps for root access, without flashing a new ROM once you're done.
Hey john does that still give me root access for apps such as titanium etc?

[Q] install a custom rom on a rooted rom

Hi guys. Gmaster here. First of all im using a rooted rom (not stock) and i want to replace it with a custom one. Im want to use mobile odin but im wondering if something might go wrong like root being removed during a process that requires root. I would use odin on my computer but my antivirus is...you get the point. But do i want a stock rooted one or will my other rom do it. Please tell me if it can do it or not (even if there is a soft/fixable bricking possiblility) if its hard brick possibility then i do want to know. Any answer that helps will get thanks off me.

As what you said, you are using "not stock" rom, so I assumed you did install a custom ROM in the past and it was successful. But why don't you follow the same way you did?
Alternatively, you can use adbshell to install CWM and then flash a custom ROM or zip through it.
There is Stock ROM and there is Costume ROM - bothe can be rooted or not (Coustume one almost always are).
Stock means: the original ROM from the manufactre (Samsung, HTC etc...).
you can learn more on how to back up your apps (titanium) and current ROM (CWM Recovery), and flashing a new rom from the forum threads.
I know guys but if i install a non root rom then wont cwm stop working?

My experience flashing non root stock room with cwm, the non root stock room became rooted stock rom by itself

Just the answer i need. Tnx. Just to make sure: my new custom rom will not effect cmw nor loose root access to finish it.

[Q] rooting methods....

im cleaning out my phone/starting over and want everything erased and new/started over.....
is using the insecured hercules kernel the only way to root my device? then after im rooted switch over to a diffrent kernel? is this still the norm for rooting? its what ive done in the past, is it still the norm? or is there a new and improved way? its been awhile since ive rooted, and just want to make sure its the best/only way to root.....
thanx.....

You don't need to do anything with a kernel to gain root. You can just Odin CWM then flash any ROM and you will have root, or flash superuser after CWM to root your stock ROM.

New To Rooting And Roms. Sprint SG3 (SPH-L710)

Pretty much new to rooting and installing custom roms to android devices. My SG3 previously was rooted and had a 4.2 Liquidsmooth jellybean rom the reason it isn't anymore is because for some reason unbeknownst to me i got stuck at the start up animation for LS so i flashed it back to stock using odin and the stock .tar from CNexus (Thanks A lot!!!!) effectively unrooting my phone and taking my rom with it. This root and om install was not done by me but by my brother. i wasnt involved in the process so i dont have any idea of how it works. From what i know he did it all using ToolKit, and i have no understanding of how to root using ToolKit, Is there an advantage to do it that way or can you root using odin? and now to the topic of roms, i don't exactly understand what they are or how you install them to my phone. If anyone could directly help me or link me to some tutorials that would be amazing (Can't for the life of me stand stock rom). i would rather have hands on help considering its my first time doing this. don't wanna brick my phone or anything. Thanks for reading!!!
