It seems that in all the custom ROM's you can only set the maximum message size to 300k. In the stock T-Mobile ROM you can set it to 1000k. Any reason for this and is there a way to fix this WITHOUT installing any 3rd party apps?

which version is that? I'm not familiar with that particular rom. what Gootah said explained it perfectly. the settings were ripped from another rom basically. only tmo esspresso roms gave the option for 1MB. its possible to change the xml and edit them yourself. I haven't really looked into that very far. I used handcent as a replacement messaging app in slide mr1 v3 since the stock one had problems. I prefer stock but since still even in v4, mms is limited to 300kb... it's a good option.
alright, I took a look at data/data/com.android.mms/shared_prefs fold and there is an file called com.android.mms_preferences.xml Change it if you dont wanna use handcent or another 3rd party app.

yeah there should be another called mms_config.xml in mms.apk under res/xml folder but it isn't in this particular rom. so that's 3 different options for folks to change mms size. if your(other members) rom doesn't have that folder or xml, check one of the other 2 options. thanks for finding that one, mike!

the engineering build is limited to 300KB. Im going to attempt a nandroid of factory prduction after root
i ended up running the production nandroid on after downgrading to engineering.
this allowed me to have the 1000kb and still have the unlocked recovery.
however i was unsuccesfull at installing busybox and app2sd forsome reason the the production with root. so i ended up installing slidemeroot5r1 again.
ive tried installing production rom mms.apk and various other files but i cant seem to find the magic settings file with the right values for mms size.
I rooted my Slide the other day and made nandroid backup of it immediately. I hadn't installed any specific rom. I decided to install one rom to try it out, but ended up restoring my nandroid backup that I had. I actually prefer stock and like it a lot. I'm at stock and rooted, but message size limit is still 300kb max.
Is there still any workaround for this?

Is it worth unrooting just to get the official 2.2. Anything it does better than any of the custom ROMs out there? I've been on custom ROMs almost since the day I bought it and it runs much better, has better battery life and is way more customizable... i really don't see a reason

I guess it would be for the Japanese keyboard and the MMS with S!mail function and emojii.
But both you can integrate in any custom ROM.
Hmm, I would like to have Japanese keyboard and the MMS with S!mail function and EMOJI in a other ROM then Softbank...
It would be nice if those could be installed as an "APK"
You can get both a Japanese keyboard and the softbank mms app from the market...

It is easy to re-root. Though using the RCmix v 0.7 sense HD ROM I am able to use the S!mail app from the market with no problems

If I would install this Softbank ROM, I would probably loose root?
Also does this ROM work with an European simcard (T-mobile NL)
My Motorola defy finally arrived by mail today, but unfortunately the market app isn't included and there is no way I can ship it back. If I install another rom will the market app work?

Where are you located? If you search around you'll find phones designed for the UAE often come w/o market as it's apparently not allowed. Also, most (if not all) who have this issue find they cannot add market. Perhaps rooting will make it work.
Also of note, some people who have ordered their phones over the internet have gotten "Saudi" phones even if they are not in that market. And, apparently, the manufacturers sometimes will not support the phone.

I googled for 5 mins and can't find the answer. Anyone know how?

So I'm assuming you're on a custom ROM and don't want to be bothered by it? Pretty sure you can simply change your build.prop and it'll no longer identify you phone as "needing" the update.

I can see the build.prop file using Root Explorer (from play store). Read in another thread that need to change the following lines:
ro.build.description=...
ro.build.fingerprint=...
with whatever is written there after applying the OTA update, but..., don´t have those strings since haven´t applied the update.
Any clue?
Note: in the build.prop file there is a note telling #do not try to parse ro.build.description or fingerprint... anyone knows why?
Thank you, C.
I know how to change the buildprop, im at 240 dpi. But I am not sure what to change the description and fingerprint to, like you said. Does anyone have it?
no one?
What used to work in older versions of Android, and which may work in JB, is changing the ro.build.fingerprint to match the latest version. So, change it to:
ro.build.fingerprint=google/takju/maguro:4.1.1/JRO03C/398337:user/release-keys
works!

Don't bother searching. 2011 Xperia devices do not have Smart Search feature on Gingerbread, unless you were using custom apps/ROM. This feature is only on Ice Cream Sandwich and custom firmwares (if included).

After flashing TWRP and Venom3.0 I started testing the various ROMs. Of course I was on a very small 8GB Micro after my SanDisk 64GB went corrupt (3years and a few washing machine and drier cycles) and made a newb move. Didn't think to save a backup pre/post unlock to the internal and just copy it onto my PC.
It wasn't until the next day that I realized I wasn't receiving calls. The phone would ring on the callers end but my phone would stay unaffected unless a vm was sent. I searched in the m9 and then overall xda for a solution to no avail. Once I used Gsearch with more vague terms I was only able to find one thread from a few years back when voice over LTE must have been kinda new.
Someone had the exact same problem, described my situation exactly and the fix proposed worked for the guy.
It was to modify the default.XML in system/customize/ACC
I switched all the "voLTExxx" values to "true" as they were all "false" and now callers are directed straight to vm. Im still completely unaffected in my phone abilities so I know I was close. All this is after I switched the the ATT dev edition ROM found here on XDA in one of the M9 stickeys.
Im thinking maybe someone with the same setup could upload their XML file that is working so I can check if it was that? Maybe that won't work but you know what will? Thanks guys.
Im seeing someone else posted just a few minutes ago and turning off LTE works. That is not a solution in my opinion and was the failsafe on the original post I read.

The dev edition (617) ruu won't fix the issue. As far as voLte is concerned, it's basically the same as running a custom rom in that you can still be affected by the issue and you can't disable Ehanced (or HD) Voice in the rom (this is tied to your sim and not the rom, I think).
Currently, this is the best solution, I think...flash an att RUU (502 - either 1.32 or 2.6, it doesn't really matter) . Then go into Mobile network settings, and disable Enhanced Voice. Once this is disabled in stock ATT rom, you can flash a custom rom and that setting should stick.
Alternatively, you might try getting on with ATT support to see if they can disable that setting on their end.
Okay. Maybe post this to the thread from 8hrs ago because some of them are having the same issue. Ill get back when I try that, I am on 1.32 currently.
Quick questions before I proceed.

it didn't have anything to do with unlocking. You have voLte enabled for your att account and you're in an area that supports voLte, but you're running a rom that doesn't.
This is just my current theory. We'll see if it works for you.
I don't know what it will take for a custom rom to support voLte.
I didn't include a link because I thought it would be easy enough to find, but I guess most people here complain if they're not spoon fed.
