Anyone used this? Does it work to hide your screen from onlookers? Does it degrade the screen quality when viewed straight on?
Thanks for any input!
I bought it because the bodyguardz kiosk did not have the DX in stock yet. The Verizon screen doesnt cover the entire glass top. It only covers where the picture is actually displayed. It's not a security screen so it doesn't block onlookers. The anti-glare doesnt really work that well and I can't really tell you want the screen looked like before since I put it on immediately after receiving my phone. The screen is more of a plastic protector where as bodyguardz is more of a softer film. I know Verizon's screen protectors can get scratched but bodyguardz will leave imprints if you push a nail or key into it. It's really personal choice on what kind of screen protector you like but if you have a bodyguardz kiosk they will replace it on the spot for you since it is a lifetime warranty.
it doesn't hide your screen from onlookers, its just a typical screen protector to protect the screen from unwanted scratches, etc, once you place it on tho, scrolls not as fluid as without the screen protector on.
I have the Verizon ones on my phone and they suck.
They make that beautiful screen look like crap, they attracked more fingerprints than the screen itself and they only protect part of the screen.
As soon as I can get some bodyguardz or any of the other manufacturers brands I'm going to get one and replace it.
The Verizon screen protectors are terrible to say the least. The seriously impact image quality.

I have the Verizon one on and I doesn't seem to mess up the image up at all like the others are saying.

I'm using one, It doesn't seem it impact the image quality for me.
I've ordered a SGP Ultra Crystal Steinheil Film simply because it covers all of the glass, where the Verizon covers the area that you interact with, but leaves the "Motorola" at the top and the "Verizon" at the bottom uncovered.
I didn't buy the verizon one because I know someone that bought it for their HTC Incredible and it was pretty bad. It really took away from the nice screen and was quite a fingerprint magnet. I referred her to the Zagg screens and she couldn't believe the difference.
My Zagg screen should be in any day now...
I bought a pack of them but did not install them right away, they helped a lot for glare when using the car dock during the day and did not seem to really impair the screen visibility.
Bought and installed. Definitely helps with glare but does seem to degrade clarity a bit. As for tactile feel I would say it's better than glass alone. I find the glass to b a major fingerprint attractor. But I will probably replace with something better but what?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Verizon one is junk. Just installed it tonight and a complete waste of money. It distorted the screen a significant amount. Unacceptable to me. I usually use a piece of vinyl window covering which is quite transparent but you have to cut it to size. Lasts forever though.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Agreed, very distorted. Would prefer them to just be clear. I like the feeling of them though, on the plus side.
They do kinda suck, but work good until you get better protectors
And also as emergency protectors in-case your nice one gets damaged
I also got the 3 pack for only $7 so I'm not complaining
I have one on mine. Was using the phone without the screen protector for a few days then put one on. The texture for me is better, my finger can glide easier especially when using swype. Like someone else said, it does cut down the glare while in the car do dock. The clarity does degrade a little, but it's not horrible.

Why are people using protectors? This thing has gorilla glass...?
I got the invisiskin thing from bestbuy. I had seen old demos from other devices, looked pretty indestructible. I bought one and am still planning to put it on. But I hate the plasticy feeling you can get. Or the color prisming I was getting with the anti glare.
Is gorilla glass really that good? I stopped using cases, I actually enjoy looking at the phone I bought. My DX is backordered and I just peeled off my ipod anti-glare screen from my Eris. A test until the new one comes. Tapping out this post has been pleasant enough.

I love the screen protector from verizon! My wife had it on her iPhone and i was jelouse, now i upgraded both of us to Droid X and i got her the glossy one and i have the smooth one from verizon. It just makes sliding accross the screen so much smoother.

The verizon one is garbage
it is frosty looking and it DOES NOT COVER THE WHOLE SCREEN AREA
If you want the crystal clear smooth one or the more frosty style fingerprint proof one get these:
http://www.sgpstore.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=droid+x&osCsid=qo3fst8pajuj0k1tbmlpokic21&x=0&y=0
they are quality and cover the whole screen area, i have both. The yellow or the black ones, that is, not the one of the left.

Because gorilla glass does not mean unscratchable.
i use the verizon ones and yes they distort screen image quality a little but the matte finish is smooth and barely any glare.

Took three tries and a slight trim of the long edge, but 3 ANTI GLARE Screen LCD for Samsung Captivate Galaxy S off ebay gave me what I want: a bubble free matte screen installation. item #380262378182.
Thanks I going to order from ebay
You don't NEED a screen protector.
The Samsung Galaxy S has Gorilla Glass from Corning.
Check a torture test here (on a Dell Streak, which I also have - but it has the same glass) and tell me if you really need a lousy plastic sheet on your beautiful screen.
Check out the gorilla glass website. The got a pictireo of a gorilla with its arse up in the air kissing a pane of glass LOLS

FWIW, My phone hangs out in my pocket all day, every day, with keys and loose change etc. I have zero scratches on the glass and the naked glass feels much better than any screen protector IMHO.
Don't get yourself all worked up over choosing the "right" screen protector. Just buy the 3 pack from at&t and call it good

Steinheil protectors are fantastic -- only ones I've found that don't leave smudges and fingerprints all over. (They do dull the screen a bit, but since the amoled screen is too bright to begin with, that's not a problem IMO.)

Look at it in the sun at an angle so it reflects the sun off the screen, you will see lots of micro scratches. This is on both our captivates. Sure, they're not "SCRATCHES" like the usually unsightly ones, they are just micro, or super thin.
Just because it can handle an impact doesn't mean it's scratch resistant. Personally have used the Phantom Skinz protector in the past and am currently using the Realook protector now. If you like the slight rubbery feel of the "skinz" type of protector you have plenty of options. I used the Phantom Skinz because it seemed to have the least orange peel look. After exchanging my captivate for another one (I had the random shut down issue) I used the Realooks static style screen protector. I prefer this one since it's almost nake glass feeling and I can totally say it can take a decent scratch. I got a nice dent from a fall off my desk onto a barbell that dented my chasis and also nicked the screen protector but no scratches. Best thing is you get 2 so if one gets farked you still have a spare. Best screen protector is one you will use and be happy with.
It still scratches even with the Gorilla Glass. Not big scratches, but they are visible at certain angles - it may or may not bother you.
I've used two types, SGP and Realook. Both are highly regarded, and from my experience SGP doesn't have any rainbow effect like Realook, but Realook has a much more natural feel. Both are excellent.
i took off my screen protector a couple months ago and i sometimes regret it. theres a few scratches on the screen but you cant really see them unless you hold the phone at a specific angle in the light. it doesnt really bother me that much. it is kind of annoying having to clean the fingerprints though.
I have invisishield its great only paid twenty for it with a lifetime warranty you I've had mine for about 4 months and it has yet to get a scratch and I even took a knife and scraped it across the screen surely no scratches but in the end I guess it is all up preference

Dont mean to hi jack the thread but is there a way to clean a screen protector? I was installing mine and it slipped out of my hand. I have tried using scotch tape to the debris off of it but I cant get all of it. Any ideas????
Invisishield
I've had the Invisishield on my phone since late August. I just recently had to exchange that under warranty and the Invisishield removed easily and installed easily on the new phone, no air pockets at all. Still looks like the day I bought it.

possible one of the WORST things to put on a phone's screen. Especially a touch screen phone with one of the best glass and screens.
The invisishield and all others LIKE IT offer nothing but horrible viewing and use. The cover often resists your fingers movements, your fingers often drag on it and the smoothness of glass is all gone and replaced by a crappy rubbery and not to mention GRAINY protector.
Surprisingly, the only thing close to being clear, and smooth is the cheap stuff on ebay. I've used them and they offer great protection and are cheap enough to change out every month. I no longer use one.
for what its worth I got the BodyGuardz protectors when they were on thanks giving sale.
It does not feel like the glass, given, but i almost feel like i like that it gives just a little resistance to my touch. it does have the slightest orange peel effect but you can only see it if its off and at an angle.
Its not perfect, but I like it especially since I have a bit of OCD and it would drive me crazy if i got the smallest scratch on the screen. This gives me piece of mind.

you're better of with these. They're clear and dont have the resistance you feel with other rubbery protectors. I'd use the ebays ones before anything else, especially if you are OCD.
At $1.57 for 3, you can change it every month if you want, but I've had good luck with them in the past.
I got gadgetshieldz they cost around $6 for full body protection. Worked for me, they are quite nice easy to install and quite good in performance. A word of caution though the it took 20 days for it to get to me in Canada.

My protector had a slight 'scratch' on it, and in my annoyance, I went to replace it with one of the two remaining in my VZW/HTC pack (luckily not on the real screen though.) Crap managed to slip between the screen & protector on number 2, and number 3 had residue on the screen side, even though the dual-cover was still on it correctly.
I dropped by VZW to buy more, but instead of getting whichever version I had before, the rep gave me some anti-glare ones in the same packaging. I hate them. Every pixel looks like it's shining through frosted glass, and it's ruining my movie/tv experience.
Catch is, I never wrote down the type of protector I had before (it was glossy and easily reflected light,) but didn't degrade the image while using the display. Does somebody know the type offhand?
Or, even better, can anyone recommend a better protector if one exists? $16 for 3 tiny sheets of clear plastic seems like highway robbery.
I've always used the cheap generic ones on eBay that come from Hong Kong after having a surprisingly good one on my PSP.
Though you run the slight chance of running into a seller that has the low quality screen protectors (I've had a coworker that received some that had light scratches immediately, as you're running your fingers across it), it's still a relatively cheap gamble (less than $5).
The good ones are scratch-resistant, do not take away any quality from the screen, and are barely noticeable. The only downside, they pick up fingerprint oils VERY easily. If that bothers you, have a microfiber cloth with you. IMO they are on par with the Steinheils.
I bought mine before the Thunderbolt's release (to prepare for its arrival!) for $3.80 for 6x screen protectors. They're still within the same price range.

Those are the best screen protectors I've ever used. I have the ultra clear one and I can't tell that it's there. And it's super smooth!
It does get pretty fingerprinty though and I've heard good things about their "anti-fingerprint" line. It's worth a look if you care about that kind of stuff.

The anti-fingerprint ones are matte. They have that frosted look. Personally, I prefer ghost armor or ZAGG over the stienheils. It's because I like wet application though so I don't get crap stuck between the screen and the screen protector.

Use that link and order the ultra fine screen protector. It's the yellow one and is anti-fingerprint. The way these screen protectors feel are fantastic. They're super smooth and glide very easily. Comparatively speaking, the zagg shields IMO are sticky. I also feel weird getting my phone wet to put on a screen protector. Just me though....

They are just terrible.
for the first week, it attracted sweat. I was not even sweaty, yet it absorbed the sweat. If i were watching you tube videos, i could see where it was wet and id have to wipe it away.
for the second week. Its picking up fingerprints, in my pocket. its that bad. The fingerprints dont go away either. It starts making bumps. Heres the kicker, if you try to swypeD See what i did there?) it away, more finger prints! They start to make it hard just to swipe left and right in the home screens.
To point out some other flaws-
-OverPriced
-Does not even cover the complete screen
-Attracts sunlight
-cut outs are too large, incase of user error
-comes in a pack of 3, so if i get a new screen protector (no way im not) ill feel bad about it. (yes, this is a flaw.)
So Never, Never, Ever, get the verizon screen protector. Even if you were in my position where you did the living social thing to get $50 to spend, Just get two cases, or the highly overpriced $6 screen cleaners, which are really just the free things they give you when you get glasses.
I don't have that problem with Verizon screen protector.
And if you use finger to clean off finger prints.....there's something wrong with you. It's like using a dust-maker to clean the dust?
I do like the smoothness and clarity of the Verizon screen protector. My ghost armor still left some bumps and lines in the protector. The protector not fitting the whole way isn't too bad because I'm using the amzer case but it would be nice it it was a little bigger. I don't like the fact that it scratches so easy. The ghost armor resisted scratches, but this one just takes it. I had it in my pocket all day and managed to find scratches on it. I guess that's why they give you 3. If it was a decent protector you would think 1 is all you need.

The Verizon screen protectors are a bargain compared to some other options out there, and they're just as good. I've used $13 (for one) BoxWave ClearTouch Crystal screen protectors on my Eris, Incredible, and Fascinate with very very good results. I purchased the Verizon clear screen protectors since BoxWave didn't have theirs ready when the phone was released, and I was able to see how good the Verizon protector was beforehand on my friend's Galaxy Nexus.
Most of the items you listed as flaws will be present with other screen protectors. Sure, the Verizon protector could have extended widthwise more, but covering the curved bottom with this style of dry/static application screen protector will result in the entire bottom edge being lifted off the screen. I haven't seen any screen protector that doesn't attract sunlight compared to no screen protector. Even anti-glare versions tend to attract light, though with a more diffuse reflection. The cutouts for the ear speaker, camera, and sensor are fine and hardly too large. I've never experienced the problem where fingerprints cause bumps.
the Verizon ones beat the other 3 brands I have tried by far. Maybe you should take a shower so you're not so greasy.

What's wrong with you guys.. Verizon screen protector is not a bargain. Besides, you can get very good screen protectors from Ebay for negligible amount of money. Lmfao

I agree. A good screen protector will cover the entire glass, not just the viewable screen portion. The price is like $15 or something?
Typically you can order a better one for less. I have an XO brand I paid less for and it's a edge-to-edge wet apply.
I bought the 3 pack, pulled one out and placed it over the screen (before trying to apply it) saw what it covered, and put it back in the little bag. I have 3, never used, waste of money.
I think they're just okay. Great clarity but does attract fingerprints and the prints are hard to wipe off using my T-shirt.
Once I'm done with the pack, I plan on getting the SGP ultra clear oleophobic.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Bought a 3 pack with the Verizon accessory sale for like $7 or $8, they're perfectly fine for me and thought it was easy to apply. The part of the screen not covered is covered up my by gel skin. When I clean mine, I grab a Zeiss lens cleaning wipe, and it works fine for me. I'm pretty picky on screen protectors and typically hate them, but I actually prefer the feel of the VZW protector over the bare glass.
/no issue
/personal preference
Bought verizon 3-pack for about $8 after corporate discount, and nothing's wrong with them. I actually had a bad 1st Gnexus device that I had to return, while they were swapping I asked for a piece of tape to lift and reapply the used protector on the new device, and the verizon rep was astounded at how easily I applied it without a single bubble or dust particle.
Btw, they cover as much as the screen as possible, if it went edge to edge it would be lifted because of the curvature in the glass. I use my nexus to talk about an hour a day, and I do have a pretty greasy face, and my screen is nicely protected from my nasty face.
Count me among those liking the VZW clear screen protectors. As good or better than any others I've used. Cleans fine with a microfiber cloth. No issues.
After using sgp and power support shields, I can confidently say the Verizon protectors are garbage. Save yourself some money and just buy an sgp shield for your phone. Same price and significantly better.

My one experience with the SGP Oleophobic was that it scratched very easily. The screen protector scratched while I was trying to rub out bubbles after application. The Verizon clear and BoxWave Crystal protectors never scratched from doing this.
Just installed a VZW protector on my phone.
Crystal clear, no orange peel that I can see. A little less slick than I would like but once it gets "greased up" from normal use Im sure it will be fine.
Only complaint is it doesnt cover the bottom portion of the phone perfectly....sides and top are good in conjunction with my Diztronics rev 3 case, but the bottom of the protector is about 3mm short. Good enough for now, while I decide which better proector I want to buy.
Do people not use invisi shield anymore. Those are nice and pretty cheap.

I will say these are "ok" at best...they look good on the phone but if you put your phone in your pocket they scratch really easily. Mine looked horrible after a week of use.
Is it nessessory for me to get a screen protector for my new SGS3?
I heavily rely on the sensitive feel on the screen, and i just don't want to sacrifice its original beauty. i heard the screen on galaxy s3 use gorilla glass, need no protector any more, but i still worry to see scratches.
How about u guys? will u buy a screen protector?
I have a zagg screen cover (regular, not full body) but didn't care for it too much. It was put on perfectly (or as perfect as it could get) and I felt like it did dull the screen colors down a bit
I recently took it off when my Diztronic case came in and now just carry a micro fiber cloth with me. If the phone goes in my pocket I can slid that right over the screen
So I'd say no screen protector. If you have an extra micro fiber cloth around I would just use that

In all seriousness, no, it's not. The glass is pretty tough, it may get a few little scratches, maybe one or 2 big ones over the life of the phone. BUT if you're OCD about keeping the glass pristine, you want one, because gorilla glass is not invincible.
I got one for the future resale value bonus of "No Scratches", and as long as you get a smooth dry application screen protector, you won't notice a degradation of the feel of the surface of the phone.

Though everyone has an opinion I think that its a must. Don't be fooled by Gorilla Glass it is not scratch proof. I baby my electronics and had never scratched a screen on any device I had owned. Then I look at my Galaxy Note and there are 2 scratches from NO-WHERE. Just poof no drop no bump...
So to be cautious I will always have one now.
I had a package of cheap screen protectors from 2007.. probably not even made for touch phones! But they fit so we installed them. The touchscreen works great and the screen looks fine. I can hardly tell it's there.
I know it'd drive me crazy if I got a scratch on my phone and had to look at for the next 2 years I'd definitely recommend buying a screen protector! I'm sure anything being sold today is better than what we've got installed So hopefully you won't even notice it and can protect your screen
I ALWAYS get one. If it makes it feel cheap, you probably got a cheap and/or crappy screen protector.
I like Martin Fields and have used Seidio ones as well. ZAGG (I think it is) you can get a Best Buy and other places SUCK. They have a sticky or rather rubber feel to them so your fingers don't glide smoothly and probably are what give people the "cheap" feel. The first two I mentioned feel identical to the glass. You won't even know they're there. I get a new phone once a year and never had more than a scratch or two on the protector only. Peel it off ... brand new phone still.
I figure it also helps against breakage since there is an extra layer of protection reinforcing the structure. Kind of like laminated glass. A friend got a giant gouge in his RAZR. GIANT wound to the screen protector, but it didn't make it through to the glass surface. No cracks or even scratches ... to the glass.
I stopped investing in them. My iPhone 4 was without for a year and no scratches. The protectors had scratches but they aren't as durable as the screen

What the hell are those napkins made of? Dear lord.
Definitely get a screen protector. Get a dry install screen protector that is clear and I guarantee that you won't notice it. I recommend SGP Nano Clear for this phone. It is very easy to install and works very well with cases. The only drawback is that it leaves about 1 mm or so uncovered around the edges, but fortunately this will be covered by most cases.
If you are wondering about getting a screen protector, then get one. You may regret it otherwise.

I got the Steinhill Ultra Crystal. It's a fingerprint magnet, but so it the rest of the phone, feels just like the glass though.
Yes get a screen protector. I highly recommend that you get one. Gorilla glass 2 is not scratch proof. I already scratched my screen and my HTC evo 4g lte screen. :-(
Why would you not get a screen protector for this phone? This is not a cheap phone so do yourself a favor and get you a good screen protector. You touch the screen whenever you use the phone and everytime you touch it, you risk scratching it due to dirt being on your hands. Protect your investment!
Normally I purchase wet application protectors from bestskinsever.com but wet application protectors do not play well with tpu cases for this phone.
I recommend the Reearth dry screen protector. You can find it on Amazon for 11.99 and it includes 2 protectors. It's an awesome protector and you won't even know it's on your phone.

No ...I'm not getting one,..I dropped my s2 down a stairs, was hit head on by a drunk driver , found my phone about 200 feet from my vehicle on the road, it had one tiny scratch that you could barely see,..and the S3 has a stronger screen, but its whatever you wanna do

I finally broke down and got an S3 today and also picked up a pack of the ridiculously expensive stick-on screen protectors that Verizon sells as I didn't want to take any chances in between buying the phone and getting some cheap ones. Anyway, the screen looks very grainy with the protector, especially when displaying lighter images. I really don't mind that much but when I'm taking pictures it really bugs me. I was wondering if anyone knows of a screen protector for the S3 that is durable but doesn't make the screen look all grainy.
Thanks!
The screen protector that comes with the otter box case is perfect. You really don't even notice it at all. It's the best screen protector that I have personally used

I'm not a big fan of the otterbox defender screen protector. As a matter of fact I am not even using it. I think there are a lot of protectors that don't look grainy, I wish I could find one that didn't show fingerprints.
Zagg HD all the way

Verizon replaced them with some clear ones. I guess I had gotten the anti glare ones. Having trouble getting an air bubble out though.

I'm not a fan of cases in general, so I bought an Armor Shield full-body protector - essentially it's like screen protector film, but they send precut pieces to protect all of the phone rather than just the screen.
I'm really really impressed with the whole package - the body parts are cool in that they really just give a great grip (the stock phone is really slippery), but the screen protector is really impressive in all the ways screen protectors have disappointed me in the past.
This one doesn't feel rubbery (interestingly, since the body parts add grip), in fact my finger glides on it better than the glass surface. That was surprising.
And, this one doesn't collect fingerprint grease.
I'm betting armor shield sells the screen protectors solo... and probably affordable, I think the whole body package with the screen protector was only $15.
And it's clear, I think for your original question, just avoid "matte finish" screen protectors. Those are the ones with the hazy/grainy finish.
