I've got probably a somewhat unique problem and I wondered if there was a setting or conf file somewhere I could tweak to fix it.
The problem is that I'm a native English speaker but I use my phone in Spanish. I wish to perform voice searches in English because there are some things for which I don't know the word in Spanish and because my accent means Spanish voice to speech is a little less accurate than it should be. my phone used to work perfectly in Spanish with English voice searching until Google added support for spanish. My current work around of changing the phone's language settings back to English then to Spanish again works but is less than ideal as it takes ages to do and you'd often be faster typing you're search in manually. is there another way round this? is there a setting I can tweak? my Desire is rooted if it helps!......Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
Anyone any ideas?

guessing that's a don't know. I was thinking that voice search had to be instructed to send the audio to a specific server based on the language and that either the program might be patchable or some config file editable...maybe even a script to change the language then launch voice search then switch it off again? or some program that might catch dns requests for the Spanish server and re-route them to the English one? I am just theorising of course! perhaps there's even an option I simply don't know about? anyone got any ideas?

hey guys...
another question from a new motorola defy multi-touch-keyboard user :=P
is there anyway to switch the language quickly...?
currently i use more locale2, but it also at least takes sever clicks until the language is changed... and it has the side effect that the whole OS changes the language.. which brings some lags...^^
so any advices? did i miss something?
thanks a lot,

This is the first time I bumped into this issue, and I must admit it sucks
Here's the deal, in every single phone I had I've used the phone (UI) in english, and wrote text in spanish using Itap.
My last phone (nokia 5800) had no problems with that.
With this new one, Moto Defy, I see there's no way to change the UI language, and the auto-prediction separately.
I thought it had to do with the fact that Android by default doesn't have a T9 like keyboard for text input so I downloaded a couple of apps for that but all have the same issue, they work fine, but they keep using the language for auto-prediction set in Settings (which is English, for the UI)
Does anybody know how I could accomplish this?
Hope somebody can help =)
Regards!
I had your same issue and I solved it using "htc ime mod keyboard"; you can find it here on xda forum, not on the market (therefore you have to manually install it).
It's fully customizable, has T9 prediction, supports many languages.
Infact I configured the volume button to quickly switch between 2 languages that I use.

thanks, i've tested it and tried but it feels somewhat slow to me :S
I'm really picky when it comes to typing speed so maybe it's just me. I'll see what I can do but thanks =)
Hi all, I am very new here and actually I have never used Android before. I am planning to get a HTC wildfire cos I find a good deal in Australia, I want to confirm the below questions before making purchase. Please help and thank you so much!
1/ I will purchase a HTC wildfire in Australialocal shop so that means it's in English version. I don't need Chinese interface & menu but I want to read / type Traditional Chinese in sms and browse the web etc. Can I just use android apps MoreLocale2 to read Chinese? and download to type Chinese? OR I have to download specific ROM to enable me to have those function? If so, where can I download?
2/ I've heard if I download HTC sync then I can also use my USB to browse the web without wifi, is that true??
I am really appreciated if someone can help. Thank you very much!
1. You can check with the shop. If it is built in, you can disable the keyboard. The Chinese language's file is just small, It doesn't use up a lot of space.
2. Yea, you can tether your mobile internet to your computer by using usb tether or WiFi tether.. usb tether drivers is provided by HTC in sd card.

Thank you guys! will get the phone this week and try it!
Got my Nexus today (Vodafone Portugal) and there's a bug with the keyboard, i choose Portuguese language and auto correct doesn't work, at all. Completly empty diccionare ... it works fine with english. Any hint on this?
Thks.
Probably a stupid answer but try adding each word into the dictionary lol. Or might be fixed in an update

Geeeez ... i'm just using swiftkey x. Thks for the answer anyway. Maybe it doesn't include Portuguese corrections, only the keyboard itself?
I've had a problem where some forms on websites (like this one) just inexplicably turn auto correct off. Haven't found any rhyme or reason to this yet.
I'm thinking on getting this phone. I have an iPhone 4 now and love the support in my language Greek for voice dialing over my bluetooth earpiece.
Could anyone confirm if you can do the same with this phone? This is very important for me, I have over 1.000 contacts and voice dialing is a time saver.
Also, how is the navigation? Which is the best app?
Thanks
Sorry I can't answer your question about the greek language, however, one of the things that I was worried about was the performance of the GPS, as samsung are historically pretty useless when it comes to gps performance. I can happily say though, that the GPS performance of this phone is simply perfect. I just use google maps for my navigation needs but there are plenty of other options available. Navigon, being one of my favourites.
Just check what languages does voice actions support... If there is Greek than you are good to go....
Although English is not my first language I still use it for dialing and texting....

Thanks, really sucks that Google hasn't got support for Greek and maybe other languages in voice dialing. Staying with iPhone.
