i just have to ask this question...
I have my MDA-Pro for about 2 months now and have installed two O2 roms (I'm at present running 1.13.82 WWE from 02).
but i'm just not convinced. i'd love to love love my Universal (I am a self confessed gadget person who just HAS to have the newest thing!). it's just not 'doing it' for me yet.
UMTS (i am with the german provider e-plus) is not spectacular, the phone is ok, but i get mixed opinions as to my calls with my bluetooth headset...(jabra BT800).
Also, the device just doesn't feel snappy. it has a fast processor and i have really not many programs installed (the basics: pocket informant, resco explorer, pocket mechanic, skype & ozVGA - although i don't always run in VGA).
for navigation i own a mio168 with TomTom 5. This device feels quicker than my Universal.
am i doing something wrong? can i do something right?
i appreciate your help and comments.
Hi effjay,
just for one subject of your message.
I use a BT800 as well and have the same result using it (not even UMTS, just GSM). My experience is that if the actual available memory is too small, the BT gets bad quality. A soft-reset and I am confirmed to be totally clear again.
Your question I would answer with : "not yet" meaning I am convinced that one or two updates (which still have to come) and I will be happy.

NO :x :?
i don't know why i do it!
i purchased a HP6315 when they first came out (i was lucky to be holidaying in singapore at that time!), and i sold it again quite quickly as i was not happy with the performance.
i guess i should have learned from that lesson. i was (am?) really hoping that the universal will be the thing it should be, but it just isn't. it's unreliable.
things that worked fine yesterday (i.e. voice dialling with my jabra BT800) for whatever reason decided to not work today. i had to reset and then everything was fine. this is not acceptable and it's so annoying.
so i guess (after my moaning!) all i'm trying to say is that i hope that someone, somewhere can finally deliver a ROM that is stable, is economic with memory and that just does what it's supposed to!
stranger things have happened...haven't they?!

Not really.
I love the screen, I love the keyboard, but it's soooo slow. I would love to see a HTC Universe with PalmOS Or Windows Mobile 2003. My Old MDA III (Blue Angel) is MUCH faster. And it has only 400MHz (or 420?)
Am I happy?.
no at all.
i hate this machine specially with my Arabic langauge.
no way to buy again...
I hate this device!
I spent a lot of money on this brick! It simply doesn't work! (T-Mobile Pro!)
1.) EVERY morning it has hang up! seems to happen on recieving a mail or sms.
2.) When you open it and put it like a Laptop on your desc you cannot tap on the screen without tipping it. It will fall on its back!
You have to use your second hand! (SIC!) Even then!
3.) T-Mobile branding is so annoying that I sometimes get angry just by looking at it! Startscreen (morning booting)
4.) I'm using a DELL X50v and a Compact, a XDA III and a QTec 8310.
Each of this devices is at least 2 times faster (Even with switched off Error Handling) Its unbelievable SLOW!
5.) Roaming does not work well. When I travel by train or car, my colleages can phone for hours without any troubles. My sh*** Pro does just hang up or disconnect every 5-10 minutes.
6.) Finaly - this device seems to be unhackable (there is still no SIM-Unlocker) This may make T-Mobile happy, but not me as a customer.
There are about 25 further problems. If anyone would like to see them, just tell me!
This device is NOT for professional use!

I totally agree.
This is a nice, first generation beta childplay.
This is something the same when Frank Zappa published one album which was totally empty.
I bought mine purely for experimental purposes, I have no real need for a PDA! As such I think it's great.
I'm not convinced as a phone and will be getting a second, much smaller handset. I wouldn't like to rely on this device on a professional level. I find the battery life very poor and it once lost all my contacts. They came back after a soft reset, but I wasn't happy to have to wait over 5 mins to make a call.
Once the teething problems have been sorted out, I'm sure it will be a fantastic device. It has the potential to be great! I fear however, that by the time the problems are sorted out, there will be better, faster, smaller, more reliable devices available.
Sank5
nope!
its slow and seemingly buggy, i would like someone to do a backup on their phone that works properly then post that to see if it makes a difference... we could end up with a workable model after all..
o2 exec
I love my exec! I wouldn't change it for the world! Of course it is going to have teething troubles, but these are being sorted, both by software updates and the great people on this forum! The size issue is irrelevant, we all knew it was going to be big, and as people have already explained on this forum elsewhere the vga screen is the main reason it is a bit slow.
Just my two cents!
Fin
I absolutely loved it when I first got it. But I'm getting more and more frustrated with it.
1) The goddamn alarms just refuse to work half the time. I never know if it will work in the morning or if it won't wake me up. I spent 1,200 US and it doesn't even work as an alarm clock!
2) The device is really slow.
3) The ActiveSync in incredibly unreliable: sometimes it just stops syncing for no apparent reason at all. Everything worked the night before but it doesn't the very next morning. What the...?! Now, all of a sudden it starts asking me for an Exchange password. Why? I didn't do anything differently!
4) The POP mail account just disappears sometimes.
5) The phone is so difficult to answer - you press the button and nothing happens - the thing just freezes and I have to call people back.
6) Some programs just disappear from the Settings menu and reappear later after a few soft resets.
It's annoying that the thing is so frustrating - it's such a great concept! But the only way it work in an acceptable manner is if it doesn't have any programs installed - right after a hard reset, but if that's the case, there's no point in this "micro laptop" if you can't install programs.
VERY HAPPY.
Doesn't feel faster than my old JAM, but it's got 4 times the pixels to shift. A good memory manager and never switching it off allows it to remain zippy-ish though.
Wifi is rock solid, bluetooth works a treat, but I use that less at the moment, activesync sucks balls, but that's an MS problem, 3G/GPRS/AS/Wifi switching works flawlessy, screen rotation works great, WM5.0 isn't compatible with all my fave progs yet, but give it time, battery life is good, as long as I don't use a lot of wifi without a charger (suits me) , screen is great, keyboard is great...
Loving it so far.
Universal - great PDA, rubbish phone
there is no doubting that the Universal is a superb PDA - i don't really have so many problems using it for surfing either.
it's just mainly the phone part. it's not reliable.
so often i'm told that i was not available although my universal was turned on and i was definately within a very good signal range. upon rebooting the universal everything is fine.
due to browsing the forums here i had a very lean system with really only some basic stuff: pocketInformat, resco explorer, magic button & ozVGA
i was running the O2 ROM (corporate mode) - although i have just updated to the new T-Mobile German ROM...
i hope that it addresses some of my phone reliability issues.
i'll keep you all posted
Besides the Activesync which at times decides to go on vacation, I think this device rocks.
Everyone knew it was big so that doesn't really count doesn't it?
I got my t-mobile TP2 at the end of August. At first I thought it was the best device ever. The screen was huge and clear. Web browsing was awesome and the keyboard is just the best...
Now a few months later I hate this thing. All the things I love are still true but so many bad things have surfaced.
The phone is slow and unresponsive. I hate that it ignores my inputs and I push the key again and again and again and then it decides to empty the buffer and gives me 15 of the letter I was trying to type. I don't like the wait after I make an entry.
I can't stand the lack of a scroll wheel and Dpad. Take GoogleMaps, I knew before that certain actions were a precise number of scroll clicks and then a click to select. Without the wheel I'm stuck pocking at the screen. I used to be able to use Gmaps driving without looking and only taking attention away from driving for a split second. I can't use it now because it's too risky...
I've tried to speed the device up and make it as close to what I want as possible. I turned off Manila and installed voldpad but it's not enough. I'm sick of hard resetting the device trying to make it faster.
The stupid iphone did this. Microsoft and HTC now think that everyone wants to tap away at screens with gimmicky interfaces and the devices are loosing real functionality.
My 8125 was a better device, buttons everywhere and didn't lag.
Thoughts?
yup, walk to the toilet and flushhhhhhhhhh it
I would have to agree with you to a point. My first device was the 8525 . I have also used the tilt and the fuze. It seemed with each generation, the device loses fuctons out of the box. If it was not for xda, i would be hating these devices and gotten an iphone. The tilt 2 is no exeption but the improvements over the fuze out weight the bad aspectes of the device. It might be awhile before the apps catch up with the hardware.
there has been a new wave of devices that use the sliding keybord layout. e features of the upcoming droid read like the wishlist for htc on the touch pro 2

Well, this sounds like a hardware issue to me.. perhaps you have a defective phone. Mine is fine, there are a few software glitches here and there, but overall that problem is not common for this device.
I came from a Wizard, so ya know..
I hear ya, I came from a Samsung i760, quite possibly the last WinMoPro phone that will ever sport a traditional phone button grid on the front of the phone (*plus* an excellent slide-out qwerty.) I got quite used to it, and I could do everything blindfolded. It was also built like a tank, no case needed.
But like you, I was seduced by that big, luscious WVGA screen. And so far Im pretty happy, although I do miss the buttons (and Dpad) alot. "The devils' greatest trick was to make the world think they didnt need phones with buttons" was my mantra.
Well, the tradeoffs are good, good enough that I think I'll stick with the TP2 until something better comes along. The speed is much faster, the screen is, well, gorgeous, and a myriad of little other things make it more preferable than the i760 *OVERALL*.
...but man, I wish I could mate the two little bricks and get the best of both worlds.
Well it just is impossible to have both a large screen and buttons on the front of the phone. I still think this phone is the best of both world with the slide out keyboard. This phone's keyboard is very easy to use and large. My Tilt keyboard would sometimes not register a key input because I didn't push the key hard enough. This one is as fast and easy as typing on my computer.
As for sluggishness, I have had none and still use the default T-Mobile rom with TouchFlo3D. Which is actually very suprising to me in having it work so well. With the Tilt you had to ditch the AT&T rom so fast it wasn't even funny. As for your keyboard problem, it almost sound like a hardware buffer problem or that you have something messing you drivers or freezing your phone. First I would check the Memory Usage and then perhaps dig down deeper into the Task Manager and see CPU Usage of your various apps to see if any are hogging it. Perhaps selectively uninstall software. Or last try a warranty exchange.
Granted, my T-Mobile USA Touch Pro 2 doesn't have much installed or changed yet. It does have Exchange Push activated and Facebook, actuall AIM, MyPhone, Marketplace, Bing, Skyfire, PHM RegEdit, Netflix Mobile, and Garmin Mobile XT installed.
I noticed a huge reduction in issues once I switched to WinMo6.5. The keyboard buffering problem is still there, but it's nowhere near as bad, and only really occurs if you fire up an app and immediately start typing.
You just have to realize that what you typed WILL show up eventually, and that the device will quickly catch up to you. It's no different than opening Windows PowerShell on my laptop, and typing a command while waiting for it to load, it'll execute the command once it's loaded...I don't have to worry...
My problem with the TP2 is that it feels fragile and just too.. plastic.. I've had a HTC Wizard before which didn't feel like cheapass plastic.
Too bad HTC has cut on the quality of their phones.. I don't want my phone to feel like it's going to break when I bend the hinge.
i feel the same way. for me tho, i dont think its the phone... i think ita WinMo6.5. So outdated and UGLY with the 6.5.1 additions of "finger buttons." ive been searching for a phone that i can use on tmo with 3g, othrer than mytouch and g1. i hate those devices. if i could get the rhodium onto hero, life would prolly be better.
I am with you 100% when it comes to the d-pad. I currently am still on the Fuze and miss the d-pad from the Tilt. Left and right on the Fuze is unreliable, but I can still use up and down. I am very hesitant to move "up" to the Tilt 2, and you are confirming my fears.
You are right, and I've also thought that if/when Apple makes an iPhone with a qwerty keyboard, you will suddently see a huge influx of new devices with qwerty keyboards. I also bet Apple will come out with a slick voice recognition interface, then everyone else will be following suit with that too.
I still love mine, but dumped the stock ROM a long time ago. I'm on Fusion v6.0, 21869.
I moved to the Rhodium from the Vogue about a month ago and I have to say I love it as much today as I did the day it arrived, probably more. Stock ROM. I thank God every day the DPAD is gone - what a waste of space. Have experienced no hardware issues and far fewer software issues. For the first time, I have a phone that only gets reset during my weekly backup each Monday morning instead of every day or two. Although initially I hated the addition of the audio jack, I recently had occasion to use it for playing preshow music over a theatre sound system for a play, so even that came it handy, though I will always prefer Bluetooth audio.
All i can say is every one to there own, People will love it People will hate it, Me i love it, On the other hand if you Hate it GET RID and leave us to enjoy ours
Well, I'm glad so many still like it. I think my next step is to check out another unit in the store and see if mine is defective.
I'm also going to look at a new ROM, maybe that will speed it up. Any recommendations as to which one I should try?
Well I am been using it for a few months now and it still runs fine. I haven't flashed any ROM yet. Still with Telstra 6.1 ROM.
However, I do miss the D-pad too. Problem is having a large screen and a D-Pad will make the phone larger. I don't think I want anything larger so if I have to choose I will go with large screen. Otherwise I would have bought the TP instead.
I think that they could get both in there if they tried. Maybe a little joystick like the qtek 8130 or the 2125...
I miss the DPad, but then again, the screen is so much bigger than my Diamond that it's easier to finger navigate. A Blackberry trackball would have been awesome.
I'm two weeks into my Sprint TP2 with stock 6.1 ROM, and I am loving it. I listen to music and watch TV shows on the train during my commute. I just discovered voice command and I'm playing around with it. Selecting media is still a bit dodgy, but making calls works amazingly well without a need to record tags for each contact.
I know these features were available on the Diamond, but the headphone jack and storage card make all the difference in the world. I now realize that 4GB non-expandable storage is a huge liability (and ActiveSync is a slow-ass way to transfer files). The USB adapter discouraged me from using the Diamond for music -- now I listen to music and podcasts when I commute via car. No more staticky, commercial ridden radio for me.
I loaded Fusion visual voicemail, but I haven't been able to use it because I haven't missed a single call since I got the TP2 (with the Treo, Diamond, and Mogul, I would frequently get calls that went straight to voicemail).
And the battery life is a tremendous improvement over the Diamond. When I used the Diamond, I would leave the house with a full charge and then recharge it two more times at work. I don't know if I could get through an entire day on one charge with the TP2 (it would be close), but the charging itself is so much faster that I just need a 20 minute boost towards the end of the day to get me back home. The Diamond would sometimes takes 2 hours to get back to full charge. It was maddening.
I think the two features that would have made this phone perfect are a trackball and more stable screen rotation. Many apps practically crash when you rotate the screen (opera mini has to be restarted if I accidentally open the screen to type, and a couple of times I had to hard reboot because it got locked up). I'm glad the G Sensor doesn't rotate most programs -- I actually find it an annoyance. I prefer portrait mode 99% of the time unless I'm using the keyboard.
And speaking of which, what an awesome keyboard. The Mogul keyboard was awful, which is why I settled for the Diamond instead of waiting for the Touch Pro to come back into stock. I figured I barely ever used the keyboard, so it didn't make sense to spend more money and wait an indefinite amount of time for a feature I didn't even use. The TP2 keyboard is a different animal -- the spaced, offset keys make typing a breeze. I can actually pound out a few paragraphs now without having to correct every fourth letter. It more than makes up for the thickness.
And now that I have the keyboard, I can control emulated games. That was pretty much impossible on the Diamond.
Maybe in a few weeks I could change my mind, but I doubt it. If I could get the VolDpad repeat scroll mode to work properly in Opera Mini, I wouldn't even mind not having a trackball.
I have owned every HTC phone ever offered by AT&T (previously Cingular) , starting with the 2150 (wizard) , Hermes, Kaizer, Raphael, and now Rhodium. The first (2150 or wizard) was almost useless, and although you can see the potential it was practically a piece of trash. With the Hermes and Kaiser things slightly improved especially if I flashed the correct ROM, I still have my Kaiser which I use as a substitute phone. Starting with Fuze (Raphael) these phones are significantly improved, none the less lack of support for a capacitive screen have kept them one or two steps behind the Iphone or even your regular touch screen phones. My son has an LG with Symbian OS and the touch screen works beautifully, and its a lot less cost than these expensive WM phones. The notification remains an issue especially lack of repeat without third party apps.
Yet the versatility and potential for customization is far beyond any other phone. I have to say that if this site was not in existence, most likely I, like many others would have given up on these types of phones a long time ago (HTC listen and heed).
This long winded start of this post is to give you my two cents based on my experience. By virtue of being a member of this site we all make modifications to our phones, install and uninstall a huge number of app and ROMs, we remap keys and make short cuts etc. Windows OS tends to leave behind fragments of programs and registry changes and even key that were created even after uninstalls, and after many of these you have dead snippets of code left behind scattered all over, you also will have other modifications created by these programs that do not revert to original by simple uninstall, leaving your phone operating at a much less than optimal settings, where some setting is causing it to look for a program that does not exist anymore, or it is constantly hunting for things you already uninstalled, etc. My experience with my last two phones from att, is that the original ROM was really optimized specifically for that device, on both after flashing many ROMs I found that the original ROM (minus bloatware loaded by the carrier) gave me the best option for speed and functionality, which made these excellent devices much better than any phone on the market, and yes much better than an Iphone. I also found that after few month with heavy customization my phones became boggy and did not work well. I suggest that if your phone today is not working as well as it did when you first bought it, you should do a hard reset, learn how to us Sashmi which will automatically reload all the programs and settings you need. Other commercial back up programs may back up the settings that are causing the problem, and may not be useful for this purpose. Just try using your phone immediately after a hard reset with no extra software and you might be surprised at how much better it functions. If you reload your programs and it again becomes slow, then a software you are loading that may not be compatible. If so inclined you may want to reload your programs one by one and you should be able to figure out which one is causing the problem. You may have to live without a program that you like; remember many cabs you load from here are Beta modifications that are ported from other devices that may not function well on your phone . If your original OS is not fast enough then you should flash a ROM from this site that was designed for your device based on your carrier. You should remember that although it is a lot of fun to modify your phone, you may not have the best combination for optimizing your phone, and the slowness may be a result of all the fun you had doing that. I don't think it fair to say that your phone does not function well after you changed many things on it. But if you are like me, you will continue to mess with it as long as you are on this site, just remember to reset and start from scratch and things will go back to how they were!
Here's my HTC history:
Hermes (TyTN): Clunky, but a nice phone for its time
Kaiser: (TYTN II): As above, lovely tilting keyboard, faster and the most responsive satnav of them all.
Raphael (Touch Pro): What were they thinking! Screen too small and GPS a total failure, often just not working - and when it did the lag was awful. Hate this phone with a passion.
Rhodium (Touch Pro 2): Great phone. Miss the dpad a bit. No TAB key!! (OK, you can map one). Slight GPS lag. S2U2 pretty much mandatory to avoid calling people from your pocket.
If I couldn't have the Rhodium, I'd go back to my Kaiser.
I have not played enough with my TP2 yet, but I think if you like hardware buttons, you can customize the existing buttons with utilities like AE buttons and many others which allows you even double or triple click on the same buttons. I use it even on Tilt which has D pad and the scroll wheel as well. I would say give it a try.
When I finally decided to upgrade my HTC Tilt to the new Tilt 2, never tought all the problems that this will bring.
The first unit was purchased on 2.14.10 at ATT local store. Two weeks later I decided to change the unit because of the many problems encounter.
It's been now two more weeks and this new phone is worst than the first one. I have to do a soft reset at least two times a day. Taskmanager is often gone from my Today screen or any other application.
I have installed a couple of software found around here, but decided to installed all of them to check if the were the problem. They were not.
Yesterday, I finally decided to do a hard reset and start from scratch without any installed software, other that the bloatware included from att.
The problems persist. The phone keeps stalling/freezing over any application. The emails are not being pulled from gmail, hotmail or yahoo (I have 6 configured emails).
What do you guys recommend for this. Doing another hard reset right now it's no easy task since I have to reconfigure all emails, lose SMS, etc.
I was very anxious to get my hands on this phone but it's been a nightmare from day one. My first Tilt was more stable by far.
Thanks for any suggestions, I just have to get this out of me.
It could be any number of things causing your problems.
I myself was very disappointed with my Rhodium when I got it. Was slow, glitchy.
After alot of reading and researching, I found it was most likely due to memory leakage. And that most devices come with a modified/branded ROM from the service provider.
I found that flashing a stock HTC/cooked ROM solved most of the issues. And using an app called 'cleanRAM' freed up alot of memory.
If you dont mind losing your warranty, then I suggest flashing a newer/better ROM. And using cleanRAM to free up any leaked memory instead of a soft reset each time
First things first, install SSK dynamic proxy CAB, Nopushinternet CAB, and AT&T tilt2 speed fix.
My first month of owning TP2 I felt very similar, having to reset every couple days. Now my phone only gets reset when I remove the battery or run out of battery (its been on for about 2 weeks now). CleanRAM is a great utility, but I suggest purchasing SSK Tools for its other great programs (autoclean, registry editor, task manager, program manager...basically this thing is great for tweaking your phone.
I would suggest reading around on the forums, looking at all the stickies, and searching for other users who have the same issues as you. This phone is a great phone, but like you have come to realize, it really needs to be tweaked for its full potential to be released.
Thanks for the suggestions!
ATT just confirm that my phone qualify for a replacement. Mine have a small square white sticker in the battery compartment. This seems to be the key of identify units with problems. I got the feeling that the next new unit is going to suffer the same problems.
I'm willing to work it out and tweak my tilt 2.
Only for a minute I consider to go for the BB bold 9700 but it's not even close.
Definately this forum was key when deciding to upgrade to my tilt 2.
Keep up the good work!

All phones have the white sticker. It is how AT&T makes sure your phone has not been water damaged. It turns pink when exposed to water. You most likely aren't experiencing an issue that is specific to your phone.
All Tilt2s are horribly slow and people here just don't want to admit it. It is using the SAME processor as your original tilt, just only clocked at 528MHz instead of 400MHz but it has to drive a much higher resolution screen. Also, either WM6.5 or HTCs implementation of it on the Tilt2 is crap. It wastes memory like no other. I haven't used other WM6.5 phones so I don't know which it is.
I really like my Tilt2's appearance and absolutely love its keyboard but I hate the hardware in it. The crappyness of the OS (either due to 6.5 itself or HTCs implementation) does not help either.
I actually just found a REALLY good deal on a Telus Motorola Milestone on eBay, just $475 after Bing Cashback! I ordered it and can't wait to get it! It has a worse keyboard but its processor is a bit better and Android has surpassed WM.

That Motorola looks good!
Well, after your recomendations and some extra browsing around here, I decided to hard reset my Tilt 2 again and start from scratch. I have installed all the recommend software and only have one freeze up today while updating the Stocks.
Ram usage is at 55-60% most of the times.
I have also decided not to exchange my phone again, ATT was offering a refurbished unit and mine is new.
I'll stick with for now with the Win 6.5 Rom, maybe there's an update or patch coming up.
I have develop extra patience since using my Acer Aspire One with Intel Atom processor, this thing also get really slow at times...
for the past few days my emails wont fully syncronise and i dont fully know why
took it to the vodafone shop and they couldnt get it to work either, they told me i can either send it off once again or i can flash it at home.
so much hassle, i now do wonder why i ever went for a windows mobile phone
Ah, but your original post doesn't give too much info to be honest, not much help you can get from that. I'm sure someone can help if they know more.
That being said, I have no problems with syncing (Outlook 2003).
wiped the whole phone clean last night and started it all off again and it seems to be working ok for now.
i seriously might sell this phone soon and get another nokia!!
IMO that's a bad idea. I'd go for an Andriod phone instead. ;-) I've used a ton of different phones and Nokia has the worst of the lot in my experience. The N97 is crappy crap and makes me want to scream when I use it.
That YOU were unlucky and had some hassle, as you put it, doesn't make the phone, or platform, bad. Nokia, and others, have had, and still has, their fair share of niggles as well. I've had zero problems with mail syncing using WM phones the last three years.
my 2nd phone i have in use at the moment is a nokia e51 and i love it. its got what i want on it, its alot smaller and lightwer then the TP2 and its hassle free!!!
i may look into an android phone or just put up with the TP2 untill my upgrade near the end of NEXT year
ok. i have had a tilt, fuze, and tilt 2 now through att over the past 22 months and i dont mean to sound like a man in a tinfoil hat but are they purposely killing our phones? follow me here... i had 2 devices on verizon in 2 years and they were completely stock and worked until the end of my contract, the only reason i had 2 was i broke the first and they replaced it with a newer one through the insurance program. i came to att for the tilt. for the first few months it was awesome, then it all went to crud.reloads wouldnt help. started warranty exchanging til i was blue in the face, about 5 devices, each replacement came back with the exact same problems the original one took months to develop. they swapped me for a fuze. same story, worked flawlessly for a couple months. even running hacked roms and registry edits... then it all went south. started the exchange game. 7 fuzes later they again offered me the one time upgrade for the second time.... alas the tilt 2. incredible phone... ran cooked roms and reg edits without a problem. all my apps never had any issues. then it all started. played the reload game.. nothing seemed to help. around the same time my girlfriends tilt 2 and her dads started with the exact same issues as mine and hers was stock, his was modded. coincidence? now. im playing the warranty exchange game again. and this time there have been 2 insurance phones thrown in the mix , 1 fell down a ladder, one didnt survive my frustration with att. 8 phones later. thursday i open a box with a brand new tilt 2. boot it up. load my minimal requirements to make me happy and out of the gate it has the same issues!!!!!! dropped call, screen orientation issues, lock up constantly, txt message issues, audio issues, bluetooth issues... you name it! its been upgraded to latest software. theres nothing left to tweak on it. att's advice to me was" you are eligible for an upgrade, u should switch to the iphone" im sorry but i have no use for that thing, this is their only current winmo buisness class phone with a keyboard for my fat fingers and it DOESNT WORK! internet is USELESS. is this their way of forcing us to upgrade or do i need to adjust my tin foil hat so the aliens cant read my mind? dont wanna sound like a nut but somethings up. my new non refurbished replacement should be here monday or tuesday. i don't even know if its worth opening the box. this has me ready to pull the plug on att and switch to evo.
Am I getting you right, 20 phones in 22 months?
All I can think is, EXTREMELY bad run on luck on phones. I got the original Tilt at launch and used it (2 years) until the Tilt2 launched, and have had that handset since. Both work perfectly. In fact, I still use the old Tilt as a "backup" once in a while (loaned it to a co-worker a couple times this year when he needed a phone that would roam in Japan).

First off, let me start with. you should flash the new radio that is out, in my signature. Second. You should try a custom rom. as it makes this phone way worth it. The bluetooth. There is a cab out there, i will link it, that will help u with that, and also loudness of speaker, incalling, and your mic for outcalling.
These are not my cabs. i in no way take credit for them. i just found them.
My TP2 has been pissing me off lately too. Ive only had it for about 7 months, I dont have it loaded with apps, in fact there are only about 10 I use regularly and it is the stock ROM. I frequently have to do soft resets because it freezes, it takes forever to load apps, messages, just about anything takes 30 seconds or more sometimes.. when i use the retarded headphone attachment with a charger plugged in it when i play music it constantly goes to voice connect even when i have VC turned off. I recently got a free iPhone 3g cus my dad got the new i4 and I've been thinking about using it instead. If I can find comparable programs on the iphone like WMWiFiRouter and scilors groovemobile i will def. switch to the 3g.
I am on my 5th touch pro 2 from t-mobile, due to a power issue and the leaky screen. That said, after turning off manila (I hate that ****) and using a few today plugins, it works beautifully.
What really helped: overclocking it. I have it set up to be dynamic, so it clocks back when the screen is off, but good lord, did it make a difference. Using the phone, what used to be an exercise in patience is now quite enjoyable. Everything happens almost immediately, my battery still lasts me 1-2 days, and very little weirdness.
That said, I've always had the habit of just rebooting my phone whenever I plug it in to charge. No idea why, but I've never had any stability/functionality problems with my phones. They've just sometimes turned off when sliding them closed, hence the 5the phone.
Wow sounds like the gsm users are having a lot of issues lol. I'm still on my original tp2/sprint, going on 9 months now. Never had any major issues with it. Rarely do I drop a call. Have never upgraded radios. Hardware has all remained functional, and with an overclock this phone is great. Probably my favorite winmo device.
