backup of already rooted ota - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just wondering if any has a nand backup of the new ota and if so would they be willing to post? for those who need it?

I don't think this would work the way you want it too. I think you'd get all the updated apps like Amazon MP3 and Skype. But you wouldn't be updating your radio at all so you'd miss those improvements. And I BELIEVE that to record in 720P you need the new radio as well so you would also lose the functionality of recording video all together.
I could be wrong but I'm thinking the only way to get the new radio and hboot is to unroot, apply the OTA image, and then reroot. But again I'm new to Android so I may be wrong.

If someone does have this I would appreciate it too. I did everything successfully only to flash as theme just to see if it would work since I was rooted only to go into a bootloop. Not a problem in itself except I moved my backup to the computer to save space in the sd card. I go to the computer only to find my nandroid deleted by my kids! So now sky raider 1.8 is my stock rom with an updated radio and hboot. So I would be very appreciative if some could post a backup.

Quick Root/Unroot Question

My fiance has to send in her phone for replacement. Since the Incredible doesn't have the Privacy/backup app data option, I want to back up her apps so as not to lose data or have to manually do it in the market. From reading, Titanium Backup is the best app for the job and it requires root.
I searched for my answer but found not exactly what I was looking for...
I know I can run unrevoked3 to root the device, install TB then back up my apps...
From here I want to unroot the phone. I read I can install the official 2.1 ROM and it'll erase what unrevoked3 did.. Am I correct in assuming that?
Or could I just factory reset the phone (with the 2.2 OTA) instead of having to install that 2.1 ROM? And will doing this get rid of the custom recovery? Or does a whole ROM need to be flashed to replace the recovery?
Then on the new device, i have to root it, install TB again, install the backups... If it comes preloaded with 2.2, how do i lose root and still hold onto all the apps I just backed up?
Actually I don't care about the new device and getting rid of root...
I just want to make sure the phone I send back no longer has the custom recovery.

To skip the rooting and unrooting, try AppBrain. You can build a list and sync your device with your apps. On the new phone, do the same and it will automatically redownload and install your missing apps.

Will it download them through the market? I only ask so the downloads list in the market shows apps as installed and will notify of updates. And does it back up app data as well?

And modifying my search I found the answer... Downgrading will erase custom recovery...

Yes, it downloads through the market, and does updates, too. No it doesn't save app data. I try to stay away from that due to possible data corruption.

Another question... So phone is rooted, s-off, cw recovery.
Outside of flashing the leak, how would one prepare the phone for the ota without losing apps and data? I've read flashing the stock recovery would do it, but I can't find the 2.2 one or I'm looking in the wrong place. Any help appreciated.

Stock 2.3 OTA (Not rooted)

This is the zip that was downloaded to my phone for the stock ota update. IT IS NOT ROOTED. I know the file is supposed to be 116mb so I am not sure why it is only 110. I didn't try to flash it (don't want to lose root) so it may be a corrupted download.

You got the ota even though you are rooted?

i was flashing new roms onto my phone yesterday but i just didn't have the patience of redownloading all my apps and then resyncing all my contacts. for alot of them my backup assistant didn't work so my phone numbers weren't syncing. so at the end of the day i just went back to the original froyo, but the gb ones were my favorite. that being said if i flashed this would i lose all my contacts and have to redownload all my apps? is there anyway where i wouldn't have to do that for other roms?

Export your contacts to sd card before flash.
Import after flash.
Thats the quickest way. But i use exchange account to sync my cal, contacts. It just so much better. If you use a pc, phone, tablet, work pc its so much easier to use exchange...
Has anyone installed the 2.3.4 update? Is there any differences worth 2.3.3 to 2.3.4?

You must be mistaken. This update is still based on Gingerbread 2.3.3, not 2.3.4.
Ya i just ment to say .3 to .4 updates.

you cant install this manually.
Yeah, it is corrupt somehow, missing 6mb. Mod probably should just delete this thread.

Did you back up first... the update will fail if you've deleted system apps

no never backed up wish i did now ill read up on what you said and try that cheers
has any one got a uk gernetic stock link
Though the question in this thread itself has been asked over a million times I guess, may I also ask our masters one question:
So I used Titanium Backup Pro to Integrate Update into ROM of some system apps. Will I have to restore all the original apps in their original version to have a successful OTA update?
PS, I backed up the entire system/apps folder, so no problem with that. Also, I don't have problems with setting the permissions back with Root Explorer.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Internal Storage writing error [SOLVED]

Hi
I've posted a few threads relating to my issue, and I keep thinking it is solved, but the issue still lingers for me. The previous posts are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791701
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808195
My current issue is having a few apps write to storage. The 3 apps that are most obvious are:
Dropbox - when exporting a file, it says 'error exporting file'
Beautiful widgets - I download a skin, but it doesn't show up in the downloaded files list.
Sixaxis - I made a custom controller profile, and hit save, but it doesn't save. The folder to put downloaded profiles doesn't seem to exist.
I'm pretty sure this issue started when I used the Gnex toolkit to backup and restore when I was updating from Android 4.0.3 to 4.1.
If I knew it would help, I would go so far as to restore back to 4.0.3, and factory reset,
Anyone offer any insight into this?
Thanks
So you probably already checked this, but I remember having this problem when my sd was full...

Yep, still have about 5 GB free
So just to clarify, have you changed anything with your phone such as flashing a rom, rooting, or a custom kernel?
If so you might want go back to stock and see if that fixes it.

Yeah.
My carrier was being really slow about releasing Jelly Bean, so I rooted, and installed it myself.
It was "bigxie_JRN84D_rooted_busybox_deodexed" for 4.1 and
Maguro_JZO54K_Deodexed_Rooted_FactoryImage_teshxx for 4.1.2
Both just zipped version of the factory image. I didn't change the Kernel beyond that.
My carrier has now released the most current version now, so I could return to stock, then root again.
Sounds like a good idea, and if you're looking for a good Rom,I would suggest minco, it's as stable as stock and a whole lot faster with better battery life.

Think I got it solved.
Previously I was doing a factory reset on the phone, so it was restoring the same ROM.
Today I used the Gnex toolkit, and flashed the stock rom from google, and re-rooted. That seems to have worked. I can export files from Dropbox no problem now.
Glad to hear it

[Q] Need help since I'm new to Sammy

Earlier this week my Sensation 4g died. I bought a Note 2. Little did I know that there were issues with it that I and others have with it, ie: no easy immediate way to do app to sd for instance. Another thing I wanted was to be able to add or take away data from installed apps by connecting the phone to a computer via usb and accessing the files that way, which again doesn't happen without some work.
Since then I have rooted the phone (according to the download mode screen, which says: current binary and system status is custom.
I have left everything stock except for the rooting part and installed Superuser and SuperSU and then tried to run Titanium Backup (free) when it said 'could not access root using \something\something\su command".
I have tried several other apps and methods of trying to do what I want (from the first paragraph) but none have succeeded either due lack of documentation (and I didn't know how to do a certain step or fix something) or it just didn't work.
So where am I at now? I have factory reset my phone and am now honestly not sure where to go or what to do from here. I've Googled and Googled but nothing quite seems to be able to fix what I need and if it does then it has the lack of documentation and can't help me.
Any thoughts or guides or something that anyone could post/link to? Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken but kernels don't deal with being able to save apps to sd. I could be wrong since I don't dabble in android dev. Thanks though.
We need background... 1st of all...
What way did you use to root (Cf_auto_root, Stock-root injected, etc)?
Does your phone still have exynos_exploit or did your phone come with that "OTA Update" pre installed?
What SD card are you using?
What rom/kernal are you trying to run?
Most of the time, in this particular forum, its seems best to just ask what your trying to accomplish within the various rom/kernal thread...
Like lets say im on Stick injected rom/kernal without extsd2internalsd (apps2sd) setup and lets say I want to go to Jedi Master 9.... I would then go to Jedi Master 9 thread and ask for help on how to effectively apply that rom with ExtSd2internalsd support from my current setup, and wait for the OP or seniors to reply... also while "patiently waiting" I would read/search through the hundreds of pages looking for answers/insights to my particular process... if needed might go to my own root process thread and ask for advice on how to get to jedi master 9
Id be more than willing to help you here but need some background on your phones current status and end rom/kernal to provide an answer (to be sure I dont lead you awry

Thanks. I did answer that I am running everything stock at the moment, just rooted, no kernel or rom. I have an 8gb class 4 microsd card. My root method was cf auto root. I also stated what I was hoping to achieve also (in my first paragraph). Hopefully this helps.
Oh, if possible I'd like the easiest way to remove or disable system apps like chat on or some of the tmobile stuff. I tried a couple different methods with that too but couldn't quite get it all to work.
I tried the qtadb app but couldn't get my device to be seen by the program on the computer and i tried that app because I had no idea where to start with regular adb, its been a long time since i've done any of this stuff.
To remove or disable system apps I use root uninstaller, sometimes it won't delete system apps on the first try just exit the app go back and do it again second attemt will do, for your data problem I'll try root browser or root Explorer

Are you sure your rooted (root checker)? I honestly havent heard of anyone else being unable to install rooted apps (unless they werent rooted (those people generally rerooted to solve that issue)

Well it turns out you can download and install apps requiring root but they just wont run correctly, if at all. I know because after my factory reset, i downloaded and ran 2 root checker apps, both of which said I no longer have root or something. So now I'm just going through the rooting process again.
Edit: I'm not rooted again, as checked by 2 root confirmation apps. Now to try to get TB running and remove bloatware.
Edit 2: Great success! I got TB to work, bought PRO and have just frozen everything i dont need or dont use.
