Ok, after lots of attempts at using universal mounts, I took matters into my own hands. I ordered a NUVI250w mount off ebay for $5 shipped. It arrived from China and was a bit too far apart.
I softened the plastic by heating it slightly (use a heatgun or the like) and slightly bend the tabs inward. As I use an innocase, I didn't have to bend much. I then used a bit of heatshrink tubing to add a bit of grip to the tabs, and really snug it up.
This is the final product.
It is as snug as any GPS, and has the added benefit that the camera can work through the windshield.

Cool, good thought on the heat shrink. So are you going to run car charger to the cig lighter then?
Looks nice.

Was it loose with a case or naked? I use a innocase so I am wondering.
Thanks.

Actually, I picked up a cg adaptor for a Palm that RS was closing out, and hard wired it into the car. I have homelink (garage door opener) so power was already there. Will try to get a pic in action.
I look forward to the picture.

looks like great innovation ... hows this holding up?
evo staying in the holder after bumps and all ?
Very creative, good idea.

Any videos or pictures of these used on the device? Would love to get one but I have no idea how it looks/what thickness it adds, etc.
Thanks for the links!

Would like to hear from someone who has already purchased one of these before i get one, look nice though.

I would strongly recommend to think about how hot our phone is in games like Asphalt 6 and imagine how hot it will be if u use metal cover. Don't get you fingers burned.

Now, you can actually literally "feel" the engine moving in Asphalt 6, or more like burning

As the Official car mount isn't out till January and currently costs £50 (no way am I paying that much) I decided to go down the cheapo route. So as the Nokia CR-115 proved popular with GS2 users and the Nexus is only 1.8mm wider I ordered one at £5.88.
Can't get any pictures of it in daylight till the weekend so here they are at night.

Out of the box it's an extremely tight fit with the Nexus, but trimming down the generously sized 'cushions' allows for a better fit.
As you'd expect of a Nokia product, it's well designed and built well.
Looks pretty good. I much more prefer the official case design, but not $70 more. haha
Looks like a good idea for me until Brodit release their model. Does it not press the volume button though?
Got this here. Works fine. I personally cut the rubber a bit on both sides.
I thought I take a risk on one of the clingo mounts. My worry was as the back of the phone has rubber texture it wouldn't work well, but very impressed so far..
Do you think I could use this case with a Diztronic TPU case if I cut the rubber enough? Thanks.
I'll be looking for a decent car mount soon
Not seen many good ones about

Yeah I had room to spare with the rubber using this case.
If you have an OtterBox Commuter on your One, and a spare dash mount cradle for a Garmin Nuvi GPS(mine was a 205, I think...), your phone will snap into the cradle like it was MADE FOR IT.
I discovered this because my Nuvi died, and after I took it out of the cradle, I was thinking to myself, "this doesn't look that much wider than my One...". And sho-nuff, the One snapped right in.
Perfect for using it for Google Maps, but also just about anything else hands-free, and a perfect dash-cam if I ever get pulled over by some crooked cop! Enjoy!
can you order the mount separate? I've been looking for a dash cam mount, but most of the universal ones are too bulky and I feel like they'd "un-class" the interior of my car haha.

Here you go dude, found it on Amazon in 15 seconds!

I'm telling you guys, it's fantastic. I'm getting a UAG case in a couple days, anxious to see if it fits that, as well.
This mount below also works great with cases. I have a commuter case and a dodge ram so dash is long and windshield to far away to use short mount like OP listed.

Ya its $20 bucks, could prolly find cheaper elsewhere but it is very sturdy, not a cheesy cheapy!!
I just tried it out and you're right! It fits perfectly! Thanks for the tip!

I use RAM mounts and their x grip cradle for my phones. Very stable even during 1g cornering forces on track days.
I just ordered one of these universal clip style mounts. I get my N5 tomorrow and the mount on Tuesday. I'll let you guys know how well it works.

Update: Here's an overview of the mount and my thoughts:
My first impressions are good. Good enough that, for about 11 dollars, I ordered a second one just now.
It mounts to smooth surfaces via a very grippy suction cup. It has some sort of sticky coating on the rubber. Once it's stuck it's not going to come off very easily. The phone itself is held by a giant spring-loaded clip, which has a nice amount of tension.
(excuse the quality of my GNex camera )

All the ports and buttons are still accessible while mounted.
I'm using it in conjunction with a Spigen Slim Armor case. The angled edges of the case fit the clamp very nicely.
There's a swiveling ball-joint on the back that lets you position it how you please. You can even tilt it far enough so you can use the camera without it being blocked.
How it looks in landscape
Overall, it's a pretty good mount for the price. It is all plastic, though. So it might wear out or break over time, but it's so cheap that replacing it won't be a big deal. As a cheap universal mount, I recommend it. :good:

Here's hoping.
It was cheap enough to give it a try.
I received the mount today. Just updated my original post with a quick review.
Hey guys... so, I moved from the DNA to the HTC one about 3 months ago... Sort of have mixed feelings about the phone... Not a fan of the camera.. but MOSTLY REALLY miss my wireless charging...
SO, I decided to do something about that...
ANYWAY, im looking for anyone out there who might have a lead on REALLY shallow Micro USB connectors.
My current set is using a bunch of parts found on eBay.
USB Micro is about 1cm long (i need it about half that or less so it doesnt stick out from the case.
Im using a ULAK case (Somewhat bulky rubber/hard plastic... but it hides the Energizer/Blackberry Qi receiver fairly well)
And lastly, im using an old Energizer Qi receiver pad I had lying around.
I am happy to upload pics on how I accomplished this (it's actually relatively easy) and I am waiting on some S3 Qi pads to come in as theyre about half the thickness of the blackberry one Im using...
Anyway, if there's interest... id be happy to build some prototypes for people to try out.
I'd love to try it out.

If it's too thick, you could buy a cheap connector and remove the plastic. It looks like it could be flexible enough.
Wish I could simply stick the one processor in the dna. It has definitely been my favorite device.
