I can't really say it any better then the guy above me just did. I hope for your sake you start gettin a lil more enthusiatic for the duration of your stay here at XDA otherwise I can't really see you advancing much further... Best of luck.

Try this thread.

i am sorry guys I looked and looked I didnt see anything. I will look again.
Calm down If you spent as much time helping rather then criticizing you might have a much fuller life

what does that even mean
If you would have actually searched instead of just saying you did, you would see there is multiple threads on the same page as this thread you posted covering the information you seek, I'm just trying to save you from getting flamed from people a lot worse then me here but do what you want...

Go to the htc evo question and answer section and one of the thread titles is how to unroot to stock. There it will help you find the information your looking for. Just be careful where you post. Most won't be as nice as others just because we have rules that we follow. Good luck

I agree..... +1

zzz... being in the many forums I have been, people saying to search without even giving an answer are not adding to the forum at all.
Anyway, I unrooted before I did the OTA update... basically, you have to download the latest OTA RUU file.
The RUU file is an executible.
You run the RUU file while your phone is plugged in.
And it should restore everything to factory settings with the OTA update.
Here's a list of RUU's.
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Supersonic/
Obviously, choose the last one, as it is the latest.

Im definetly not one to flame usually, you guys can stop crying now. Im just stating the obvious... if its something hard to find, i will always post a link... you can check my other posts but this is blatantly obvious so its well deserved. A little constructive criticism is how everybody learns, its most likely how you guys even learned.

[REQ] Stock 2.2 w/o root

I know this sounds crazy, but I want to return my phone to Sprint and I don't want to return it rooted. I just need the stock ROM from the RUU. I would use the RUU itself but it's not working for me, so the .zip ought to work I think.
Just sumbit your answer in the right forum. Try the Q&A, since you are asking a question looking for and answer.

There aren't any question marks in my post. I'm not asking a question; I'm looking for a developer who would know how to do this to help out. Since most developers spend their time here, and not in Q&A, I thought this would be the better place to ask. And since I was under the impression that XDA was more about getting help than about posting in the "right forum", I didn't think it would be a problem.
..........also, it's "an answer", not "and answer".

I appreciate the answer, but the only thing I could find on there were rooted 2.2 ROMs. I couldn't find any un-rooting guides either.
Geez...wouldn't it a been a lot easier to have said...search the forums for "how to unroot"? Or maybe shot him a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915&highlight=unroot ...either way the mod is fully capable of doing his job.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746705
Here is another solution and personally the way I went:
1: http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-roms-hacks/19278-how-unroot-return-stock.html
2: make sure you use the 1.47 RUU
3: You can update the PRI now or accept the OTA Froyo then upgrade the PRI.
Either way you must update the PRI because it is the clue that tells them your phone was rooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753233
So get unrooted...update to OTA Froyo 2.2...update the PRI...and you are completly stock which is what I suggest for a phone being taken back.

.......also, I think he meant "submit your question" not "submit your answer". Good thing he put everything in big letters so we can see that not only is he an a**hole, but an a**hole with poor grammar.
Too many chiefs and not enough indians on this site. Why don't people just let the mods do their job? Anyone who has spent time on this site knows they do a VERY good job keeping the dev section clean. Regardless, there is no need to be rude.
I took the phone to Sprint with the stock rooted .47 ROM. I deleted the Superuser.apk and did a data wipe. They took it just fine and I got my replacement. Thanks for your help guys

Well said is quite the understatement. Has anyone seriously tried doing searches on this site for stuff? Sometimes you do find what you're looking for fairly easily, other times you can't find a damn thing that should be readily available. And if you're in panic mode because you think you just bricked your phone, are you going to search this entire site for an answer that might not show up in your search results? Hell no, you'd probably just create a new thread begging for help.
If you can't contribute and only talk down to people, shut your ass up. No one needs that type of attitude here.

I have to disagree.
First and foremost, give a man a fish... teach a man to fish...
The post you quote seems entirely accurate. The OP could obviously use more research as the answers are available. A little time with google alone will usually lead me to what I seek right here on xda.
I feel that the majority of xda contributors are more than willing to help if you show some indication that you have exhausted all your resources in finding your own solution. Though I do understand that moments of panic occur when nothing seems to work but it is always best as well as more satisfying to try and work through it yourself.
This forum does have a Q and A section that would be perfectly suited to handle this thread. The development section really isn't the place. You will get more welcome responses over there as that is its purpose.
Finally, as a member of this forum, I appreciate that of all the posts in this thread, yours (and suilmagic) were the only post that really did anything to help the OP.

I understand you point and I agree 100% people need to research their problems on a search engine (including the one we have here built in XDA (very handy)) because the majority of time, it will appear right onthe first page if you type your problem correctly, I agree with you. However, some users rather act in a certain way which would describe them as "assholes" if you cant contribute one way or the other why even post at all? if you dont know then theres no need to post unnecessary things. Just dont post and OP will get the picture and look somewhere else.

I agree with this as well though I hesitate at the name calling as it is also unproductive.
I miss the old days when we were all figuring it out together and questions turned to discussions. With the wealth of knowledge that has been built since then I guess some are not as willing to help others work through the problems. I do believe that if this thread had landed in Q&A it would have, or at least should have, received better response.
Well when I was new to this I thought I broke my brand new first day g2 because I got a boot loop (talk about panic mode xD) well I did my research and got it fixed thanks to me making a back up as soon as I flashed cwm...if anything it inspired me to get back at it...my advice back up your original shipping rom before you think about screwing around with stuff well now my g2 hinge is messed up extreamly loose so I'm returning it to stock :'( and sending it in....did I mention I'm 16? Update on HTC G2 Crashed and Bricked
I followed the instructions posted on this site to try and recover my G2 to no avail. After hours with an Android Developer the apparent issue was with the phone's internal memory.
I recieved a replacement and all is good. I've flashed a number of 2.3 roms in addition to roms that have Sense, flashed a kernel or two with no problems.
I hope I don't re create the same condition that started this post. I'm not sure what I did to cause the issue in the fisrt place.
Thanks to all the people out there who tried their best to help.

[Q] ...How Do I root it?

Maybe I'm blind, but I'm searching all over the dev forum for the incredible 2, there are no official links that explain how to root the phone. Please help, thank you.
I would think that if have been searching you would have read that there is no way to do a software root. You probably would have also read that you can buy an XTC clip to achieve S=Off.
Is this just temporary or will there be a way to software s-off? I'm sorry I have been searching and reading I just don't understand I'm a noob the original incredible was easy to do cause I used unrevoked
Again, if you had been reading, you might have come across a thread that discusses the software method of S=Off.
link me please?
to answer your question... no there is no software unlock yet. It is coming, it has been verified to work and has been done to a few testers.
there is no ETA.
if you need it now, buy an xtc clip and you can unlock it immediately.
lastly, this should be in general, not development.
thanks brah

There is life beyond the message board, you might want to have a look.
I understand that this is a matter of semantics, but the I2 was rooted long ago...with software. What we're lacking is an unlock to allow root to be permanent (persistent through reboots). You can root now and gain many of the benefits (and problems) of root if you really want to without paying a dime.
Now if you want to use custom firmwares, that requires unlocking. This can be done with a piece of hardware that is available now, or a piece of software that everyone is still waiting on.

I have done some searching and have found two possible routes. One is AlpharevX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132920&page=40) and the other is with the Rebel XTC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156534&page=5).
The sites are http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/, and http://www.xtcclip.com/.
AlphaRev is still beta though they claim no bricks reported so far. Since it is Beta you are supposed to interactively get a Beta key from their site to activate the software. This key is generated only if it 'likes' the serial number. The latter by the looks of it is a hardware tool which loads on your sd-card. If you go the alpha route then you must manually download and install the viow version of CWM! Still waiting for Unrevoked!

[Q] Help rooting Evo4G (Supersonic) with Gingerbread

Hey guys, been looking and tinkering all day with this. Just got a new Evo 4G that came with Gingerbread on it. rEVOked doesn't work on it to root it and I cannot seem to roll it back with an RUU.
Phone Stats:
Android 2.3.3
Baseband 2.15.00.05.02
Build 4.24.651.1 CL61076
Software 4.24.651.1
Any idea what I need to do to root it? Even if I could find a shell process to root and load Clockwork I'd be happy.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys might have for me.

Thanks for that I did search, I've been searching on here, androidcentral, cyanogenmod, xda, google, rEVOked, etc. I have seen some people be able to roll back the RUU but I've had no luck, that's why I posted the question. I understand the search functions on forums, but haven't found a definitive answer. Apparently though, there is no root for devices with 2.3.3? or just the Evo?
The lucky ones that were able to downgrade with an older ruu already have s off. But I know its not just EVO 4G its other devices as well. The sensation just recently hot s off if I'm not mistaken.

You asked a question that has been asked and answered 100's of times on here. If you truly did a search, which I do NOT believe you did, you would have seen it said, over and over and over and over again that there is no way to root your phone with the version of Android you have. There is no mistaking it, no gray area, no maybes. It's been definitely posted in onther posts RIGHT ON THE FRONT PAGE, there is no root.

now , notice i am not being an ass about it, but its as simple as that bro, if you dont want to put in a wee bit of effort on finding the answers , dont expect people to put in effort to try to answer them either, that is being selfish
but i hope your question is now answered, trust me , you WILL see stickies , you WILL know when root is achieved if you just chek in these forums every couple of days, but for now, dont be suprised if people get mad at you for wasting their time answering stuff that has already been answered a thousand times for the last month
Just gotta say there is a new thread like this every stinking day, sometimes 2 or 3. Any research or just plain looking thru a few threads would have answered your questions.

I'm gonna guess those 190+ thanks yous show I help plenty. BTW, PLEASE show me all the misspellings in my post. And don't get all froggy because you just got called out for being ignorant...
You asked a question that has been asked and answered 100's of times on here. If you truly did a search, which I do NOT believe you did, you would have seen it said, over and over and over and over again that there is no way to root your phone with the version of Android you have. There is no mistaking it, no gray area, no maybes. It's been definitely posted in onther posts RIGHT ON THE FRONT PAGE, there is no root.
typical reaction from someone who just got called out and exposed....

Really annoying? **** off and learn to spell. I love how you have this big bad persona on the internet to where you want to tell me how annoying I am and claim that I am a liar. If it annoys you, don't ****ing reply, jackass. Forums are areas for discussion, by definition. How about the next reply, you try to help instead of berating someone... or are you 'two naive'?

If you really searched, you should be ashamed of yourself. Its pretty embarrassing when I count 5 threads in the first 2 pages on this very matter that you some how missed. No excuses. Do a better job next time and you will receive hospitality instead of hostility.
To answer your question. No root for 2.3.

The 2nd poster is right, I'm gonna give you crap, because this is beyond annoying. There are THOUSANDS of posts now, including plenty of threads on the front page of each section that say that there is NO ROOT!!!!!!
I know you 'claim' to have done a search, but there is no WAY you would have posted this if you did, because you would KNOW that it cannot be rooted. This reminds me of the guy that lied to Chef Ramsey on Hell's Kitchen last night....
Either you are too lazy to do a quick search or glance, even on Google, or two naive, so turn in your internet privileges card. It's been revoked....

I hear you there I did the original root for the Eris as well then fascinate and finally escaped form the DX2. Didn't mean to come off like a **** I've just dealt with a ton of people who don't FREAKIN READ ever and just complain and now here I've looked at all the Q n A titles and a ton of people who just don't FREAKIN READ and educate themselves or use search options. I like to be helpful but if a person won't at least try to help themselves I get irritated and don't much care to help someone who makes my searching that much harder by clogging up the forums. So sorry to come off mean I guess I didn't know the background to your problem it seemed so open as if you didn't try at all. So again I apologize
