Possible to get official update after rooting? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Is it possible to get the official Froyo OTA update (Promissed to arrive before christmas in my country: Denmark), if I root, and install a custom rom on my phone?
I would like the official, when it arrives, but the wait is as hard as waiting for, yeah well, christmas!

firstly considering that you are rooted, most devs here will instantly provide the official rooted froyo rom + improvements and bonuses making it better than the official, so chances are if you flash the official froyo you will probably return to this site
you can just flash a ruu for your phone, it is a sticky on the development thread, you can install the generic htc ruu for example or a t-mobile official one, this will unroot your phone, and you will also then be able to click on: system software update and update your phone to the official froyo
summary: better official froyos will be made here, and yes you can unroot and flash official via software upgrade

Updating to Official Froyo

I just recently rooted my phone to the ported version of Android 2.2. When the supposed release of the "official" Android 2.2 comes out, how the hell do I update my phone to the "official" Android 2.2. Would I have to unroot it and then install the OTA official update and then wait for a root or will there be an update for my already ported version of 2.2? Can anyone help out?

You need to unroot and install an Official ROM.
Never update officially, unless you don't mind missing out on having root and all of the other benefits. Just hold out a few days (maybe hours?) longer after the official version hits and some kind souls here will break out the bad and leave in the good for us all.
flash one of the shipped roms, check development section for official roms, and that should unroot your phone if you want to flash the official 2.2 from sprint. also, you can wait until the devs update their roms with 2.2 goodies.

Newbie question regarding firmware updates

Hi guys,
So I have the unlocked HTC One M8 Asian variant, im rooted with unlocked bootloader and S-On. CWM Recovery.
I am now running CM11 on 4.4.4 and I want to go and try some Sense 6 based custom ROMS like Viper or InsterCoin.
Do I HAVE TO update my firmware in order to do so? What is exactly the firmware and how can I know what i'm running right now?
Any good tutorial in order to update firmware while S-On or guide to install sense based rom without updating firmware?
THANKS!
Nimi

[Q] Rooting Lenovo A536

I got a Lenovo A536 today (A536_S128_140624_ROW). I'm kind of new to Android and would like to root it. It's already asking me to update its firmware to (A536_S158_141106_ROW). I'd like to know the best way to root it and update the firmware to the latest version. Thanks in advance.
Hi
I saw your question on many pages.
previous version is rootable with reflashing rooted system image. but then you have to put there new recovery which is not able to update to OTA.
I will give it some tries today and will see if we can root also new version.
link for OTA is

[Q] Android N Firmware update questions

Hi Guys,
firstly sorry if this has been answered as i did a few searches but am that out of date now.
I'm currently on LeeDroiD 10 v3.0.0 Beta 3 and still on the old MM firmware.
Last time i was following the threads religiously there was an issue with TWRP not working for the new Nougat firmware (hence why i never updated).
My question now is what is the best way for me to go to the new firmware, TWRP (if it even works wiith the latest firmware) and newest ROM base (of any Nougat ROM as i always keep changing lol).
Thanks

Hey Roshi,
You can flash Viper 10 4.5 (http://venomroms.com/viper10-downloads/), which is an Android N ROM, and it works on Android M firmware (e.g. 1.95.401.4).
Otherwise you could flash this RUU first: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/wwe-htc-10-stock-rom-ruu-2-28-401-9-t3525075
It will update your firmware to Android N: 2.28.401.9, and then flash Viper10 4.5. However, it is being said that this RUU was leaked, and therefore it is not the final version that HTC will release to the public, hence it will never receive OTAs.
P.S. I never heard of TWRP not working on this firmware, so I assume it works just fine.
