Martin Fields Overlay Plus Screen Protector Mini-Review - EVO 4G Accessories

I just received my Martin Fields Overplay Plus screen protector today from HK. The screen protector was $16.99. I had to fork over $9.99 for FedEx shipping. The seller (www.martinfields.com) shipped the item 40 minutes after order. It took FedEx one business day to deliver (although there was a weekend in between, shipped Friday, received on Monday). Because of the steep price of this screen protector, I had high expectations.
I did not clean the screen protector after one day of use. Rest assured that the smudges and grime on the surface can be easily wiped off with a web papertowl.

Package was minimal. No cleaning cloth is provided, but packaging was easy to open. Note that this screen protector comes with a camera lens protector.
Not very good picture of the camera with protector on. It is perfectly clear and does not affect the quality of images taken.
The screen protector is a static cling screen protector. It is easy to apply. The small bubbles on the bottom right is the only imperfection (the only white particles/bubbles only show up on this picture). The fingerprints were left on to show that this screen protector DOES attract fingerprints, however the finger print is NOT noticeable once the screen is turned on.
Top of the screen protector. The front facing camera is fully covered, however the light sensor is not covered. The indented part of the screen protector could have been reduced by 2 mm, otherwise the screen protector is a perfect fit.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with this screen protector. Even if it is not worth its steep price, the camera lens protector should more than make up for it. This does beat the crap out of my old Zagg (Evo, Touch, Touch Pro 2), BSE (HTC Touch), Boxwave (iPod Touch 2G).
Pros:
High clarity
Very smooth and hard
Feel like glass, very little gumminess
Camera lens protector
Claimed to be washable and reusable (have not tested)
Cons:
Very expensive, $27 shipped until some US retailers start carrying it.
Does not offer side or back protection
Ask me any question about this.

I'm glad it comes with the camera section. I've used martin fields with 3 Razrs, TP1, TP2, and some various cameras and they have never disappointed. The price IS a bit steep but they are indeed washable and can be reapplied, i used to do it all the time, just make sure if it ever lifts that it doesn't get bent, or it will have that white haze and a sharp fold like bubble packaging for electronics.
I'm using clairvue right now as martin fields was a little late to the game with their protector for the evo, but if the clairvue ever gets messed up i'll definitely be looking to martin fields again, thanks for the review.

On Martin Fields' website, they show a hole for the front facing camera, that looks like it would be a pop-out (i.e. you'd need to take a paperclip to it to push the thing out) - does the delivered product not have this feature? In your third picture it almost looks like it but that may just be glint from the camera underneath.

I don't see a 'hole' for the front facing camera from their product page, and there is no hole/pop out on the actual product.
The product is very clear and does not affect the quality of the camera by much (if at all).
After using it for the second day, the screen protector is NOT noticeable under normal indoor conditions. The screen protector could be better outdoors under the sun, however its clarity, hardness, dry application, and inclusion of back camera protection makes this a competitive product, despite its price.
edit: oops just noticed that I have two of the same picture. One of them was supposed to be for the bottom. I'll take some more pictures later and put them on.

I bought the MATTE ANTI FINGERPRINT type.
Now many people may ask why I didn't opt for the clear ones that cost more on the website. Maybe they are better!
Maybe. But personally what I look for in a protector is 1) texture and 2) how it looks over the screen. That why I prefer Matte. Its personal preference.
Packaging
Bought from the website. This set costs roughly $26 SGD including shipping.
The packaging contains the following:
2x Screen protectors for screen (yes 2)
3x Camera screen protectors for the Back camera
1x Squeegee (its really just a rectangle piece of plastic)
1x Micro Fiber Cloth
Cutting & Coverage
The screen real estate covered by the screen protector is literally everything. Only 2 areas are not covered. The first is the front facing camera and the second is the home button. The
cutting of the protector is as perfect as it an be. Areas like cutout for the front speakers are not excessively large and has just enough allowance for very slight mis-alignment. The edges
of the screen protector cover up nicely and exposed areas are reduced to a minimal ~0.5 to 1mm.
There is a tiny cutout provided to cover up the camera lens at the back of the phone. That cutout is crystal clear and not matte because well, it's a camera.
My only gripe is that they did not create an extra cutout for us to cover the center button.
*Cutting of most screen protectors out there*
*Cutting of SGP Screen Protector I bought*
Hardness and protection against scratches
Since putting on the protector last night, I have used my fingernails to scratch out air bubbles and is happy to report that no visible marks were left although I did use a fair bit of
force. Before putting on the protector, I bent it slightly and found the material to be much harder than the cheap $10 clear protector that can be found in 90% of the shops in Singapore.
(forgot what brand it is but the packaging is blue and ugly). I would estimate the material to be 1x harder than my previous protector yet not thicker.
Overall, while I can't speak for how scratch resistant it is until I've had time to use it longer, initial impressions are good.
Anti Fingerprint qualities
The anti fingerprint qualities simply work although I dont' know how. As long as your fingers are dry, you will find no visible fingerprints on the screen from normal swiping. This is in
contrast to normal clear screen protectors that would leave fingerprints behind due to oil and residue on our fingers. I did notice that if you make a call and there is oil transfer from
your face, it has to be wiped away with your shirt or a cloth for the screen to be anti-fingerprint again.
Clarity of screen
There is obviously going to be some form of quality degradation due to the matte nature of the film. However, whatever contrast or brightness (very minimal) that you lose, you gain back in
clarity due to the screen's newly gained anti glare capabilities. Due to this, there seems to have been an improvement in screen clarity (for me at least). This is probably due to a wider
viewing angle.
Screen sensitivity
One key part that I have to mention is that I personally felt an increase in screen sensitivity after I applied the protector. The film gives the screen a sort of rough texture that doesn't
impede swiping, but instead acts as an extra sensitivity feedback for your fingers. Due to this, the screen somehow feels more responsive due to your fingers being able to slide more
precisely across the screen. Its hard to describe but take it as very very tiny invisible bumps that helps your fingers know where to stop when swiping around your screen.
Another thing I want to mention is that the screen also now feels "softer" to touch compared to when the screen was bare.
Summary
Overall I would say the protection is simply fantastic compared to the "cheap" protectors that is currently available in stores in Singapore. I have personally used martin's fields and
while the martin's field screen protectors are clear and quite scratch resistant, doesn't provide the improved sensitivity and wider viewing angle of the screen. Martin's field is also a
finger print magnet.
In terms of value, I actually got 2 protectors for $26SGD~ which means it only costs about $13 dollars each. This is in contrast to the $15SGD that shops are asking for unbranded matte screen
protectors.
Pros
Value for money (your get 2)
Very good cutting
Improved screen sensitivity
Perfect if you like matte screens
Cons
No protection for front button
Shipping took 6 weeks for me. I do not know if this is normal but it's a tad too long for me
mm interesting D: but that's not the captivate is it.. o_o
They sell the exact protector for the captivate on the website.
hmm i bought one but i dont think its the same one. Its the ultra crystal screen protector, not the matte one?
lol.. sorry to be a noob.. but can someone explain what's the difference between the 3 they have for the captivate and how exactly are the most expensive ones better than the cheaper one
I'm using the SGP Crystal on my Nexus One, and just bought Crystal screen protector for my parents' Captivates (both of them have 1).
I gotta say, out of all the screen protectors I had, this one is the one that's trully "Invisible" in every sense. It's feels very much like the naked screen, and is completely invisible. Even slightest distortion wouldn't cut it for me.
Highly recommend SGP screen protectors.

Clarivue
I'm not sure if people were scooping them up as soon as they were listed or what but it seemed that the Clarivue wasn't available for the i9000 yet, so I emailed Cellular Link (ebay) and they located them and listed them right away.
I am so happy to have some on the way.
I've used these on every gadget I've owned over the last 6-7 years, including my kids Nintendo DSs, Gameboys, my pdas and phones, GPS, iPod touches. They go on easy, they comes off relatively easy but never by mistake (as long as your screen was clean in the first place when you applied it). On an iPod touch I cannot even tell it's there, I mention this cause it's the only other capacitive display I've tried one on. They hold up to the abuse of my kids, and the one on my HTC Touch has been on their for 2.5 years and handles being thrown in my pocket with keys etc. no problem. It has a few scratches on however the clarity is still awesome, can't say enough good about them.
I'll post a follow-up of how they work on my Vibrant next week when the phone and screen protectors arrive.
Neil
Thanks for the review. I was looking for a matte finish screen protector and couldn't find one. I have the Realook on my phone now, but I hate the shiny screen. It's terrible that these shiny screens have become the norm in so many devices including laptops and even TVs. The reflections they cause are just terrible.

[Review] Rearth- Ringbo Ultimate Clear Plus+ Screen Protector

Found this on amazon and thought it looked good. Reviews were ok, but I hadnt seen anyone mention it on here for the SGS3.
Price Paid: $11.99 plus shipping. $17.09 Total
Purchased From: Amazon.com
Specs:
Clear Optic Polyester
Thickness 0.15mm
Oleophobic coating to reduce fingerprints
3H~4H Surface Solidity
Pros:
-Very nice packaging. Very clear and concise instructions.
-Came with screen cleaning cloth and plastic squeegee.
-Comes in a two pack, I installed both on 2 different phones.
-Hard to notice it when installed.
-Initially felt a little tacky, but after a day now, screen feels almost like glass.
-No issues so far
Cons:
-Doesnt come all the way to the edge of the screen, this can be considered good/bad. Due to phone design, these types of protectors have to be cut smaller to not lift off. But I notice the protector is the exact width of the display screen, almost barely "too skinny" (pics should show what I mean)
Overall, Im very happy with it. It fits PERFECTLY with a Casemate Tough. The protector comes right to the edge of the case. So my phone is almost completely covered. There should be no issues at all with the phone case lifting the protector, as they arent touching anywhere.
I did mess up a little on the application on one of the phones, so its not perfectly squared up on the phone, but Im worried I will wreck it if I try to remove it and re-position it.

The Rearth website is very nice and they have tons of info about their products, down to materials used and how they make their screen protectors. Pleasantly surprised by that.

I used this on my S3 before I got my defender case and went back to Best Skin Ever. This is the best dry protector I've used thus far. I love the fact that it comes with 2 also. I have one more left, some day I may go back to it.
I agree though...this protector is awesome and very clear and I'm not even a fan of dry applications! :good:
I have the same protector on my s3..fit and feel are great, but mine already has micro scratches in certain "high traffic" areas...

At least theyre on the screen protector and not on the screen itself. Also it's only visible under direct sunlight and you have to be really looking for them.
Thanks for the detailed review and pics! Just put in an order for a pack :]
I had this brand screen protector in my HTC Thunderbolt for more then 8 months without a problem, its in my Amazon wish list already. So far the screen protector i bought at a VZW store is holding on very good for $14

Glass screen protector finally available for XT1080 Droid Ultra/Droid Maxx

After exhausting most searches for a Glass screen protector, it looks like an ebay seller finally has one for our Droid Maxx/Ultra phones XT1080
http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=321532232355
I will post a report once I have it in hand and on my phone.
Looking forward to your review! I'm running the Skinomi screen protector and it's been great so far but this is definitely something to look at after this one wears out.
just curious when tempered glass stick on the edge screen, is there any gap?

I dont think that there should be one. Looking at other screen protectors, they only are
over the screen and are ending on both sides right before the glass gets round. I hope you understand what i am trying to say. The protector wont go completely to the edges. But i am looking forward to that test/review too.
Application: VERY easy to apply. I let it drop on to the phone and it was floating on the phone, letting me make minor adjustments to even out the sides. I followed the install tip of "touching the center of the phone to let the adhesive spread", which actually worked. There is a small <1mm border where the adhesive hasn't fully set. I am hoping that this sets fully over time-otherwise it will attract dust.
Coverage: It covers more than 100% of the active display but leaves about 5% of the Motorola glass uncovered. This is good for me, since I use a Diztronic TPU case, and screen protectors that are too close to the edges end up peeling with TPU covers.
HUGE improvement to image clarity, viewing angle, and feel. The whole phone seems to be higher resolution. 90% reduction in fingerprints/dirt/resistance. I am using 0.1% brightness using Gsam screen dimmer, and it looks so much brighter than before indoors!
Since only one manufacturer brought this XT1080 case to market, I'd have been happy even at a much higher price. I am ordering a few more for spares in case I ever need them and find them discontinued/unavailable.

Great find, though I am still a bit confused on what this product does.
Is this a screen protector or something else?
How does it make the display look better than the original?
Great find... I've been trying to find tempered glass for my Maxx for months. I ordered one of these for about $6 (dirt cheap!), and am liking it so far. I'm curious, though... Have the edges of your tempered glass adhered yet? Mine has been on for a few days, and the edges are still not grabbing completely. My Maxx lives in a Trident case (Kraken, I think), so the edges of the screen protector are pretty much covered. Just wasn't sure if there was any trick to the application that I missed...
After a week the top and bottom of mine never fully 'seated'. Doesn't affect the viewable part of the the screen but looks kinda crappy. Put the same product on an iPhone 5S and it went on completely correct from the start. Makes me wonder if it was me or the protector.
Since I have several, I took one off and applied a second due to the outer edges not making full contact. The manual refers to letting the 'adhesive spread', however there is no adhesive. It simply clings to the clean phone surface. I placed the first screen protector on the middle of my LCD monitor. totally clear all the way to the edges.
I think the Droid Maxx screen isn't 100% flat, perhaps as a result of the (LACK) of precision that led to both of my XT1080's having a terrible creaking noise on the side.
Despite this nuisance, I like the feel of the glass cover more every time I use it. I'm actually fearful of the Droid Turbo launch now--in case glass covers are not available on launch day.
$95? Presumably the seller jacked up the prices on these.... That's crazy. The privacy version is less than $10.
literally, I think is the best protector

I went through some of the sellers feedback, noticed that some say it is plastic and not glass... I would think it's glass, so just wanted to make sure. Can anyone that purchased from this eBay seller confirm.
Also noticed the price decreased since it's under $6 shipped now.
It is definitely real tempered glass.... When I took my first one off, it took very little to crack it. the bottom layer touching the phone was the only thing keeping the pieces of glass held together at that point.
The XT1080, like the Droid Turbo, Note 4, and IPhone 6, have glass that curves at the edges. These rigid screen protectors don't fully attach at the edges causing a halo effect.
Companies have been revising their Note4 designs to address this but they are basically just making the screen covers smaller with more of the screen uncovered.

TGSP or SKIN recommendations?

Anyone have some experience with some nice tgsp or skins for the mate20?
I ordered some stuff, but it's not in yet..
lemme start this topic off..
Guys dont buy the 4D TGSP from DrPhone it's a rip off!!
The picture happened after I tried to align the TGSP to the upper right corner. Also look at the teardrop is also not aligned correctly
Also the lower part of the screen was covered, but that isn't clear because it's all black.
I got some more tgsp coming in..
1. Doesnt cover whole front panel
2. Covers bits of all 4 sides of the screen when placed in the middle
3. No curved edges
total rip off!!!

Thanks for the warning. You did not like the standard pre-installed factory screen protector?
I have removed the screen protector because it is much more smoother to use and the pre-installed screen protector was a fingerprint magnet.
I bought a slim cover case with auto wake and sleep when opening and closing. It protects the phone more than enough.
I do like the pre-installed one, but it's a fingerprint and dust magnet?
So yeah I wanna go TGSP, camera lens protector and back skin.
I ordered 2 dbrand skins and just a regular transparent kevlar (print) skin.
But soo many tgsp sellers are just cheating people with their bs =/
and yeah i've also noticed the phone is soo much smoother when no protector applied! but I hope glass will improve the touch than plastic =)

You cover the screen so ppl can use a case? ****!!! are they blind or do they think we're stupid? =/
damn scamming sellers everywhere
Anyway.. next week I have the tgsp from eiger, nilkin, icall and just in case coming in.
I will test them and post the results here.
If the fit isn't right I won't stick it on my phone so I can return it and get a refund.
I'll rank them from "best" to worst, but I'm very disappointed with the results:
1. Nilkin: Barely cover the whole screen. So it looks very ugly and small. And the glass will " cut" you. No 2.5/3D glass.
(All the 3 others were just terrible:
iCall: covers 2mm of left and right side of screen
Eiger: Doesn't cover left and right side of the screen for about 2/3 mm. wtfff
JustInCase: covers 2mm of left and right side of screen
I'm sending all these crap products back ! These were priced from 10 to 17 euros EACH!
Only positive side from today is my dbrand skin it looks so fine that wood skin!
After many many tries with those overpriced TGSP I got a good hit with 2 cheap tgsp.
My personal favorite is the first one from aliexpress.
So smooth and bright and you almost forget you have a tgsp on it.

Pros:
1. Thin (feels almost as thin as the factory pre installed one, perhaps because of the right size?)
2. Cheap
3. Covers more than only the screen (but not the entire front panel)
4. Case friendly (for those who use it with a case)
5. Quality feels like premium
Cons:
1. Long shipment
2. May experience white line problems ( I have just a small sign of white lines, but only noticable when you are looking closing for them)
Also a decent buy:
https://www.ebay.nl/itm/Huawei-Mate...var=651362647729&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
1. Covers whole screen (leaves nothing uncovered except for the camera area)
2. Cheap
3. Quality seems decent
Cons:
1. Uses tape (so there could be some dust sticking on the sides, haven't tried it on for long time because the one from aliexpress arrived 2 days later)
2. Long shipment
