SD card can't unmount & market enabler tut - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! all. i'm on Defrost 2.0b. currently got this problem.
when i plug in my desire to my laptop & unmount my SD card, it takes quite a while or can't unmount. then after it unmounts, i go to the shortcut on home screen to press the button which will go into USB storage mode. but the circle loading thing keeps loading & my laptop never seems to detect the phone. although i see a removable disk icon but i can't access it. please help.
also i have market enabler 3.0.8 installed. but not sure how to use anyone can give tutorial?

i dont suppose you are using a mac?
if i disable the disk drive from the phone then the computer is unable to properly eject the phone
you have to eject the phone driver from the computer first and then disable the disk drive from the phone

i'm using Vista Premium version. 2gb RAM. please help. i can't even sync with HTC sync.

sounds to me like a driver problem
go to control panel -> device manager
find your phone and uninstall the driver
disconnect your phone
reboot your computer
do not install htc sync but connect your phone to your computer and wait for the drivers to install
try now
properly enabling disk drive/storage:
connect your phone to your computer
drag down the notification bar and select connection type to disk drive
in 'My Computer' you will now see your memory card
to unmount just change from disk drive to charge and then disconnect phone from computer
hope this helps and sorry for the delay

[Q] Mac can't see evo sd card

I am rooted, and I've tried restarting both phone and laptop. Reseated sd card also. I have disk drive selected as default connection. Any ideas? Thanks
have you tried enabling or disabling usb debugging?
Have you tried selecting Mount as disk drive option when plugged into computer? I know my default is Charge only but when i want it to show up, I choose mount it. On my mac it comes up as a drive with "no name" as its name in the finder
I tried usb debugging. It says usb debugging enabled at the top of the evo when I connect it like that, but still cannot see the sd card. I do have "disk drive" selected as my default connection type.
Still can't get it to see the sd card. Is there a way to install a ROM via bluetooth?
Get a usb-microsd reader and mount the phone's sdcard on the mac, if you can't download the rom directly to your sdcard, over 3g/4g.
Did you happen to recently install the newest version of Ilife?
I think thats what did it for me...

[Q] Cannot see SD card when connected to PC

I cannot access my SD card when I connect it to my desktop, my pc sees it but I can only access the phone itself and not the sd card. It's a 2nd hand phone and the sd card is empty (no htc stuffs or anything) but it's definitely working.
Please help guys, I've been searching the forum for several hours and still cannot find the answer.
EDIT:
We can sync files into the SD card using HTC Sync but we cannot manually place (Typical drag files in and out) files via removable disk. Still cannot find any solution
Is debugging turned on or off?

Ifyou want to access the sdcard, you should choose the option to connect ad disk instead of sync or charge only.
If you're running a sense ROM, be sure to select "disk drive" in the USB menu when you connect the phone, not HTC Sync, etc.
Also, don't run HTC sync or just disconnect it after it starts, just let the computer recognize the phone as removable storage, not a phone.

Yeah, that's what I did first. I mounted it as a disk drive. I only synced it with HTC sync to just install the drivers. I'ma go try one more time.
Okay, solved by doing a restore factory settings and formatting the SD card.
Please close this thread mods Thanks!

GingerVillain 1.4 don't have DISK DRIVE option

Pull down the notification bar and click mount usb (or something similar).
Great! It works
Thanks dude

my disk drive option is gone as well. Upon pulling down notification bar all I get is USB debugging connected....I can't figure out how to access the disk drive option.

[Q] Mount SD No Longer Works?

It was working fine yesterday, but today in MIUI (same as yesterday), I can tell the phone to mount the SD card but it doesn't show up on my computer. So the phone says it's mounted, but it apparently isn't.
To make sure it wasn't a problem with the ROM, I rebooted into to CWM and mounted there, same thing. CWM says it's mounted but it doesn't show up on my computer.
I can view and edit the files on the SD card through ES File Explorer, but the SD card no longer appears on my computer?
It's not the USB port, I plugged in a flash drive and it worked. And I'm using the stock HTC Cable.
This is on my Inspire.
I'm inclined to say it's the wire, but nothing happened to the wire between today and yesterday. It was just sitting on the floor, and it still charges the device.
I did reboot my computer and phone...still no luck.
Does USB debugging have anything to do with it? I've been rooted for months and I never disabled and it didn't cause problems :/
Out of the two inspires in my household, one of my cables stopped working only a month after I bought it. It still works for charging but does not work for data. Have you tried a different cable just to be sure.
It might not be the phone nor the Rom since you've done some basic trouble shooting. It could possibly be your PC. Have you tried it on another computer? Possible driver problems or drive letter conflict might cause it not to display in Computer.
You can check whether Windows has detected your device by going to Start > Devices and Printers, it will pop up there if it is detected. Otherwise you can also check Disk Management. To do this just right-click on Computer > Manage > Disk Management. If you see the removable disk and sure that it is your SD card then it might be a driver letter conflict which you can easily fix by right-clicking on the removable disk and clicking "Change Driver Letter and Paths" and changing it to an unused driver letter. I've had similar issues with USB drives in the past. Hope this helps!
Cheers

[Q] SD card no longer recognised in windows

I can no longer access my SD card from my windows pc when connected by USB. This occurred on the same day that i unlocked my bootloader, installed the java sdk and android sdk.
I have the phone set MSC (mass storage mode) and connect it by USB as I always did in the past.
Windows recognises that something is connected and a new removable drive is created.
In the past my phone would give me the option to connect the memory card, however this no longer happens.
Clicking on the new drive in Windows causes a message box to pop up saying "Please insert a disk in drive..."
No amount of fiddling with usb settings (debugging, MTP, etc) plugging / unplugging or rebooting has made any difference. I've tried reinstalling USB drivers and removing & reinstalling Sony PC companion. I've also tried accessing the sd card from ubuntu in a virtual machine, but that also doesn't work.
I can view the SD cards contents from my phone and through an adb link.
Does anyone have a solution? From extensive googling, the only things i can see that i haven't tried is:
- trying a different cable (which has been suggested but sounds pretty daft to me)
- reformatting the sd card
Any other suggestions? If i do have to format the sd card, are there any good guides or is there anything i need to avoid doing???
Can you read the card from a card reader.
if you can it is then either drivers or the cable
Sent from my LT15i using xda premium
unfortunately i don't have a card reader. I'll give it a try tonight in my girlfriend's phone and with a usb cable and see how that works out.
it will definitely work with a card reader...this problem occurs when usb storage suddenly stops working as soon as usb is connected..i guess best way is to reinstall ROM if the problem persist.
Flashing firmware (global v62) got it working again )
