So I started using xdandroid on my Touch Pro 2. Everything seems to be working except the phone claims to have no data connection. As a result, I can make calls, but can't surf the internet. The data connection works on WinMo, but not in Android. What can I do to fix this?
Log into the T-Mo website and switch your data plan to Android. Wait about six hours, and you'll have data in Droid, but not in WinMo.

If I were you personally I would head over to the FAQ and read up on data connection issues before you call tmobile to change your data plan.....
http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/faq
Ive never heard of this being used as a fix, but M1A1D PMd me, and said this is how he fixed his data issue. Still personally I would run through the FAQ first, but if all else fails, then there is your next step in the process.

Here is an example... when using Google Maps Navigation on my EVO I will get a call, and I will answer it either via Speakerphone or Bluetooth.
My navigation will then give me an updating screen like it is trying to find the directions... at first I thought this was a NAV issue but then I noticed my mobile data icon dissapears and I noticed that my mobile data does NOT work AT ALL when I am on a call.
Is that normal behavior, or is it a problem? I thought it might be the ROM but I have tried this on both a stock based rom (Baked Snack and FRESH) and on CyanogenMOD...
I am trying to figure out if this is a HARDWARE ISSUE or if this is just normal par for the course and I never noticed it before...
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks,
Tim
that is normal with Sprint. You can only call and use data while on wifi.
Man... that sucks! It makes it hard to rely on the phone for nav as I have been doing when I need to get on a conference call or something during the drive... damn! So other carriers don't have this limitation? Like if I used Verizon or AT&T with an Android device this would work? (Just curious)
Thanks for the quick response!
Simple fact: CDMA (which Sprint, Verizon, etc. use) can only handle data or voice at once. There is a version which can do both, and Verizon is supposedly looking into rolling it out, but it would require tower, infrastructure, and phone upgrades, much like rolling out the LTE/WiMax networks.
Easiest solution to bypass this:
1) Make calls as VoIP. Will cut on your web browsing/navigation bandwidth, but at least makes it possible.
2) Be connected to WiFi. Voice will go over your cell radio, data will go over the WiFi network.
3) Be connected to WiMax. Same as WiFi.
You can only use wifi or wimax when on a call.
OK so this gives me a really good reason to flash over to something that I can use Wimax with... I will flash over to Fresh or something and try navigating with 4G on and make phone calls. Thanks for all the great info!! I love this forum
I don't know if it is normal but I don't think it is. I know you can't use voice and data at the same time on a CDMA network but today is the 1st time I've ever had nav shut down when on a call. I thought the nav program downloaded the route and then would reconnect if alternate directions were needed if you missed a turn or something. I've used nav and voice almost every day since I got the phone months ago and this problem has never happened before today.

It has to pull the map pictures as you drive. Unfortunately, Google didn't allow for a large cache to be created on your phone.
Use the locations app in an hd port and download maps for your area. That way here is no need to use the internet for maps to have gps at all.

I have been running the nightly Cyanogen 7 (most recently I was on release 4) and I was having issues with my market application crashing everytime I tried to update apps. When I installed the latest Google apps linked from the Cyan nightly thread and rebooted I could no longer get a data connection at all. My wifi works fine and I can make calls, but data won't connect at any speed. I've tried fixing permissions, wiping data, switching radios, and reloading older roms but I haven't had any luck so far. The APN seems to be correct, but I tried following some instructions on manually inputting APN info and that didn't help either.
Does anyone have any ideas?
You say WIFI works fine -- you can surf the web etc using WIFI, but not through phone Data?
Call your provider -- perhaps they need to reset your connection, verify your IMEI or something...
Thanks for the suggestion. I called T-Mobile and they did their resetting or whatever it is that they can do on their end, but no luck. The rep I talked to suggested getting a new sim card because mine is a couple of years old and it might have failed. I'll give that a try next and see if it helps.
you seem to have two problems.. 1. you cant get market to act nice and 2. you are unable to use the phone without wifi? is that correct?
tmo may be correct about the sim card with regard to your data issues.. that makes sense..and they do fail. But your market problem has nothing to do with the sim card. i use market all the time without a sim card on wifi.
Ugh! So it turns out that the entire data network in my area happened to go down at a time that coincided with me rebooting my phone, leading me to believe I had screwed something up. I don't know why the TMO rep didn't know that, but the guy at the store I talked to seemed annoyed that they kept sending people in for new SIM cards. He said I was like the 20th person to come in for that.
Thanks for the replies, it seems my problems are resolved.

That's really funny lol. I remember being able to ask CS people at Sprint about network outages and they could tell me. T-mobile CS has been able to tell me before too lol.
You have to ask tmobile customer service if there are any outages, otherwise they don't tend to check until they cold-transfer you to the android support team. As far as the market issues, to access the market with tmobile you do need a mobile data connection. If I turn off data and only have wifi I am unable to authenticate market. You'll notice when accessing market either your 3g or H symbol will show up for a few seconds.
Oh well at least it was only an outage

I've had my Evo rooted for quite a long time now. All of a sudden I have lost my data connection. It happened maybe 3 days after flashing MIUI 1.7.8 I can browse the web just fine, every website loads perfect. Only thing issue with browsing is that embedded flash videos will not load.
The Netflix app, NHL gamecenter, ROM Manager, and all other apps that use data do not work properly. They say there is no data connection and will not work.
I tried flashing back to CM7.1 and have the same problem. Has never done this before. All mobile data settings seem to be ok.
If I go to mobile networks and turn data off and then right back on, data will work for maybe 30 seconds to a minute then not connect anymore.
Anyone ever experience this problem before?

I lost data on my Hero once, I simply called Sprint and told them my situation, leaving out the fact that I was rooted, and they reset my data profile over the air. Had me reset it on the phone, and everything worked perfectly again.
Yea Just call Sprint. They need to reset ur profile.
lost connection
Same problem but I have been on metro pcs for about a year.
[Solved]Been awhile since I've been here...Anyways,
Up until maybe a few weeks ago, my data connection has been working 100% fine no matter what ROM I've switched to. Then I somehow hit a roadblock. I hadn't really noticed, but when I wasn't on Wi-Fi, I couldn't connect with any apps to the internet, nor use the browser. My phone shows connection and bars, but it won't actually work. It just tells me there's no data connection available, or whatever depending on the ROM. I thought it might have been a data tower problem, but I had this problem in the Twin Cities, my local township, and throughout Chicago (vacation). All of those locations were supposed to be HSPA+ compatible, and worked prior to now.
To try and fix this, I've flashed my phone to all of my old backups, including my old stock, and data wouldn't work on any of them. I've reverted to MIUI, CM7, and Tmo 2.2.
This makes me think its either the radio (never messed with it before), the SIM card, or some hardware defect of some kind. I've been reading around, and apparently I might also have an APN problem. I've tried looking up how to fix these individually, but I don't want to screw up something that isn't broken. Thoughts, anyone? Currently I'm using MIUI latest, and I used rmk's RIL autopatcher for radio libraries. [Solved]
EDIT: Solved! For others experiencing data connection issues, check with a T-mobile person and ask about your plan.. Apparently they love to switch around plans, and forgot to enable data on my handset. Others have found they were given a different data plan, and needed a different APN. Also, if your plan is fine, Evilcuber was right that different APNs can solve data issues.

I think its an apn problem. Try searching (your carrier) apn settings on google and it will tell you what you need to set for username and password and other stuff

I tried multiple variations of T-mobile APN's, and none of them worked... Just found out my plan got switched, so it might be that also, (I still have unlimited data, messages, 500min voice). EDIT: I was sure the APN edit would work..Darn. Am I missing something here..?

just out of curiosity, is it typical for things to screw up like this when you switch your plan around? i'm thinking of increasing the minutes on my plan and i don't really want to encounter any roadblocks like this with my phone running g-lite.
sorry i couldn't offer any insight into your problem though.
Problem is solved anyways, bro. You should be fine changing plan. Just double-check.

Hello there. If you're gonna change your plan, minutes, data, messages, whatever, see if you can do it at a store. That way you can see what they've changed. I also found out that if they switch up your data and DO enable it, you'll get a message saying they changed it.
I think you'll be fine adding more minutes, just make sure they add the unlimited data, as its optional when switching plans now.
Running CM11 on PagePlus. I cannot access the Internet. I was able to at one time. Thought it was the Rom so I flash CM10.1 and Stock rooted rom. I reactivated the phone after the installs. Every time it says the network is connected but I cannot connect to the Internet or send MMS. Starting to think it is the phone. Any ideas?
More info:
IP address is applied. Able to ping ip address but not some other known ip address. Traceroute does one hop to 66.174.216.161, which seems to be a Verizon ISP. Might try playing with apns-config.xml. I had tried the one I had when it was working previously but did not seem to change anything.
I'm new, but had similar problems

I'm not sure the MMS issue has been resolved, as of yet. Last time I check the Development thread it seemed like there wasn't yet a fix. Someone will correct me shortly if I'm mistaken, I'm sure.
The data problem you're having is one that I struggled with for a couple weeks in CM11... I don't know how much help I can be, because I'm not really sure what ended up actually fixing it for my dINC. All I know is that I spent about three hours dirty flashing and restoring from nand backups, sometimes the full backup and sometimes just partitions. I also threw in a *228 somewhere in there. Anyways, Through persistence, and sheer dumb luck, I finally have a pretty stable data connection, as long as I don't use the mode switcher in DUbattery(that seems to mess 3g up until reboot).
sometimes it helps to toggle airplane mode on then off.
Thanks for the tip. I toggled airplane mode on and off. I could then load google in the browser but it would not do anything after that. I have a new inc and an OG Evo coming in. Might have to retire my inc for the kid to play games on. My wife is using and OG Evo with no data or mms problems on 10.1 and I am sort of digging the larger screen. Also might be able to help zach with troubleshooting cm11 for the evo (supersonic).

Glad to know it was not just my phone. I am back on your 2/17 build and was worried there was some leftover firewall stuff even though I wiped everything except emmc and sd-card before the flash.
On another note. I have that other EVO coming in so should be able to load up CM11 and do some logging for you.
So I switched mobile data off this weekend with the silent profile and when I switched it back on using the default profile my data worked.

I'm glad you found a fix! On my dINC, I don't use the profiles, and mobile data crashes randomly. After flashing the March 23rd build, it has gotten somewhat better, but it always seems to skip out when I need it most... specifically.... when I use Google voice search to either dictate text messages or navigate to an address(delivery driver). the latter is especially frustrating, because I only use the navi when I'm already out of the store and can't find something, so no alternative available. Sometimes, even when the 3g symbol is full in status bar, I'll push the voice button and it will say, "cannot reach google *** etc" :crying:
