i desperately wanna transfer all my contacts ASAP....

I don't know how do do with bluetooth
do you have a google account or an exchange account somewhere it's easier to use that in my opinion then you contacts will also be safely stored online.

Gmail.com setup an account
tattoo: settings > Accounts & Sync > Add Account > google - login with the newly created account from gmail.
after your contacts are synced, contacts copied to your gmail account (done automatically)
desire: do the same thing as tattoo - your contacts will be copied to desire. (done automatically)
If you have been using your google mail account on your tattoo then all you have to do is sign in with that same account on the desire and everything should be synced accross.

@DilbertZG: cool man... thanks for ur suggestion
Make vCard file. Then copy file to other phone and do restore

I use my work email as a central source for contacts, managing them in Outlook. I sync with my Desire using HTC Sync, which works well and creates them on the phone as contacts with a type 'phone'. I would like to then sync these with gmail, but can't find a way to do it - and yes I've searched everywhere!
So the ideal would be - I add a contact in Outlook, which sync's with the phone using HTC Sync, which then wireless syncs with gmail - shouldn't be too hard, should it?
You could just export the Outlook contacts to a vCard and import that to Gmail.
That's my point - I could do it that way but it's a lot of manual effort. Surely there is some way of automating it?
Google are still working on the sync app, they've released the api to the community, unfortunately the only people working I'm it are corps wanting to make money, so until google pullover socks up. You either buy an app like 4team sync2, or manually update everything. There is a lb app called GO sync contacts, but while its free the dev has open
Sourced it, and gave up. There is an issue with it, so until someone fixes it. You need to buy one of these apps.

When I converted my phone contacts to Google contacts I did 3 things:
1. Exported all phone contacts to vcf file.
2. Copied the vcf file to my desktop
3. Imported the vcf file to my Google accounts (via Google contacts web UI).
It took about 1 minute.
I presume exporting all contacts to vcf in Outlook takes about the same time.
But the problem is I update my contacts daily (i'm a sales guy) so I want to keep them updated in all 3 places automatically by just updating Outlook. If either HTC Sync could create them on the phone as 'google' contacts, or I could sync 'phone' contacts to gmail, this would work.
If one of the apps mentioned above does this I'd be happy to pay for it.
Have you tried Companion Link?
chuk
If your willing to pay go for 4team sync2 it works very well, silent operation. And forwards all details you, can set sync times too. From memory its about $25

Thanks guys, Companion Link, 4team and Soocial may work, I'm going to look at these in more detail.
Shame that all I really need to do is to set the contact type to 'Google' when I sync and it would work, or sync contact type of 'phone' with Gmail.
How about making the PC the central sync point? i.e. use both GO Contact Sync and HTC Sync on the PC running Outlook.
htc desire telstra, I get & read my emails on my phone - no problem, Was using imap and the only problem seemed calendar changes on phone didn't sync back to pc. PC to phone OK.
Changed to pop3 and sync with computer at the end of the day, emails disapear from phone and the emails that I read (opened) on phone don't appear in my Outlook inbox (when i send/recieve) & still calendar changes on phone dont sync back to pc.
Have tried other email clients on phone, no change.
running windows 7 pro 32bit
microsoft office enterprise 2007 sp2
HTCsync 3.0.5481
what do i do next?

deleting the accounts and re adding doesnt work.
email provider is google apps using gmail pop and smtp servers. on our own domain.
ROM is the stock Telstra (aust) android rom, latest update.
Worked on IMAP but it was slow retrieving emails.
with POP we have all sorts of problems.
why dont you try adding that account in the gmail app or use gmail activesync (google it for the settings)?
for the gmail app you can create labels which will take you straight to the account or account/label you want.
Or add your account to the email app using gmail active sync.
I use it the first way and it works like a charm.

does the app support custom domains?
ours isnt @gmail.com its @cscommunications.com.au but uses gmail servers
Yes it supports custom domains.
you can use default settings from the gmail app....
got the email on the gmail app and seems to be working okay.
Just left with the bloody calendar problem!
adding entry's on PC and syncing to phone works fine, they show up on phone, but editing or adding entry's on the phone will not sync the changes back to pc.
What do you guys recommend?
-Much Appreciated

Sync Contacts
Hi prospect565,
I have some ways to help you!
1. Use Plaxo
- On your iPhone, go AppStore search for Plaxo. Download and install it, it's free! Run it!
- Create Plaxo account and choose to sync all your contacts from iPhone to Plaxo server, you can login to Plaxo_com on the web and edit, organize easily.
- Sync your Plaxo contacts (all your iPhone contacts uploaded to Plaxo server) with Google Contacts. Go www_plaxo_com/ab/dashboard/GoogleMail, login and follow theirs steps, it's easy use your Gmail account.
- On your HTC Desire HD, go Settings, Account & sync and add your Gmail account, make sure your tick the options "Sync Contacts"
- Done! Enjoy your new DHD, you will never lose your contacts!
2. Use PhoneCopy service
- Backup your iPhone contacts use PhoneCopy for iPhone. How to do? read this link www_phonecopy_com/en/phones/view/apple_iphone_3gs . iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S do the same way!
- Restore your contacs from PhoneCopy to your HTC Desire HD. How? see www_phonecopy_com/en/phones/view/htc_desire_hd_a9191
3. Use your PC/Laptop with iTunes installed.
- This was same as use Plaxo, but it's simple. How to do? Read h t t p_support_apple_com/kb/HT1245
- After your finish synced all your contacts from iPhone to Google, login to you Gmail account, check Tabs contacts on the left to see if all your contacts is there and then sync them back to your DHD by add the Gmail to your DHD!
Thanks for read!
If its a brand new (or factory restored phone) then just run through the initial setup and use the option to transfer data over, it should be there

If you've selected to sync your contacts via your google/gmail account, once you've added your account to the new phone, it should start synchronsing automatically.
Check out:
Setttings > Account & Sync> Under manage accounts> choose one of your gmail accts> there should be something called Sync Contacts.
Alternatively - back in the old days there were options to save the contacts onto the SIM itself and it will carry over when you insert it into the new phone.
Done, thanks guys i downloaded this manager named mobaro and first transferred my contcts to the manager and then to the htc and now everything is good

Hi, you can use a phone data transfer to move your iPhone contacts and other data to your new HTC desire. There are many tools available to do the transfer. I have used Jihosoft Phone Transfer. You can have a try.
On my phone, I had all my contacts saved under [email protected] (my university email runs on gmail system) google account althought i never had any success syncing them from my phone.
Just now I deleted that google account on the phone forgetting the fact all my phone numbers were there. Obviously I cant get em back from my google account since there was never a successful sync.
Can anyone tell me how I can get back my contacts?
Thanks

It never synced with the mail system. So basically I'm asking whether I can recover it from within the phone instead of syncing
Export your contacts to another Gmail account, log in with that and sync - job done!
If they didn't sync to an account your SOL. Sorry.

If you can access your uni mail in the Google Apps interface, maybe you can export your contacts there into .csv or .vcf. So you can import them in your main Google account or just locally on the phone via 3rd party Android app that imports contacts.
I will soon changing my phone, any solution on how to transfer all the data from my old one? I kind of don't want to redo any of the Contact number and login information stuff.

First thing would be using google account. Sync everything with your google account. Sign in to your new device using same account and keep the sync on.
Your contacts will be synced with google contact of your old phone.
To check if your contacts are syncd properly or not> try logging to your google account using any desktop/laptop. goto https://contacts.google.com/ to check.
