I spent the last hour searching for an answer before posting.
I'm using the NRG Titanium ROM with the native Arcsoft messaging (Windows) instead of the newer (and less user friendly) HTC messaging client but I had this problem in the stock ROM as well.
When a new sms message comes, I get the popup window. When I choose reply, the message window pops up briefly at full screen, then the on-screen keyboard pops up just like I want it to because I have "keyboardautodeploy" set to come up.
But then immediately it disappears and the message window comes back to full screen. Now I need to press on the keyboard icon for it to come up and then I have to touch in the text box to get the cursor back in focus.
I really don't understand why it does this. It does not do this on the email side and as far as I can tell the two are somehow integrated. Is there a registry setting in the SMS side that is telling it to open the messages in full screen which is conflicting with the autodeploy of the keyboard? It does not do this when i return to messages that I have already replied to, just new messages when they come in.
And no. I will not go to the HTC messaging client. It is a nightmare to use compared to the older arcsoft messaging client.
HTC Rhodium AT&T
NRG Titanium
Mobile Shell 3.5
no answers on this one?
i believe that the keyboard goes away because the Window focus suddenly goes to the top iframe of the messaging client, the keyboard will only auto deploy when the window focus is on an input area. Fix? no clue, sounds like a System issue, you dont want the htc messaging client, but thats what I use, and i have had no issues with it(just sayin)

Hi all,
Since I upgraded my T-Mobile ppc to 4.01.16 ENG Rom and 6.25.02 Radio, I have had bad experience on SMS sending. The sms I send is received by the recipients twice or trice and I am sure that I am charged with the extra sms. I have been thinking that my new radio version is not compatible to where I am (I am currently in Asia-Pacific/Philipines which uses GSM900/1800 but I am going to and from the US and Phil so I also need my device to be compatible with US network). I have been researching this forum and found out that radio downgrade is not possible and very dangerous for my device.
But now, I think I have found the real culprit. I always send messages through the 'mail' software (today panel and tap on 'no unread messages' part), of course through SMS. When I send the SMS and close the 'mail' software before before the message is sent (that is before the message sent icon on top appears), SMS is sent mutiple times. But when I wait the message sent icon to appear before I close the 'mail' software, the SMS is only sent once. I am very sure of this for I have observed this for quite some time already.
Is there an app or something to correct this? I need help for I am charged at least twice or trice for the SMS I send. Thanks a lot.
Try this method: Open Contacts, select the name and tap & hold on the name and select "Send SMS". Sometimes the s/w doesn't get the aknowledgement from the GSM network so it attempts to send it again.
Thanks Biso. Can you recommend a better software other than the 'mail' default program? Or can I make the mail program 'unclosable' so that it will on be minimized. I'm using SPB Pocket Plus so the 'x' button is closing the apps. I just want hte mail program to be also minimized ang the rest are closed. Thanks
Hi,
I don't prefer any other mail program than the standard one especially if you are connected to MS Exchange server. It's fully integrated with it, but for POP3 mail I heard that nPOPw is very good http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=839
As for minimizing the mail s/w, even tho I don't see any difference between closing and minimizing (except for on line s/w like MSN messenger), but with each task manager (I use Magic Button) you should find an option to assign the current window to "Keep Alive" flag. Then the x button will only minimize it (switch to the next window or Today if all off).
Thanks Biso. Just found out that SPB Pocket Plus has a 'minimize by gesture' feature which you can add to list the program you just want to minimize. And it works, when I just minimize the 'mail' software the sms I send is only sent once (recipient only receive it once). Thanks a lot. Guess this is a bug on T-Mobile WM2003 Rom?
I have tried the Palm ripped threader for wm6 which I love because of its integration in and just appealing user interface but it seems to have some severe problems. Sometimes after closing the program after sending a message the CommManager or other programs will also pop up behind the palm app and I will have to close them too. The worst part though is that it almost always sends duplicate previous messages. Currently I am using PocketCM for my contacts and sms messaging but it has drawbacks like trying to send a message to someone that isnt a contact.
So yeah, I would really like to find a text message threading app like the palm one but that doesnt send duplicate messages over and over again, any suggestions or am I SOL?
My vote - stick with Palm Messaging
I've been using the WM6 "Palm" messaging since I first converted to WM6 (and the previous version on WM5 too) and it's always worked flawlessly.
The duplicate messages problem is a known one with ANY of the text messaging systems on the phone. It occurs when the application is closed shortly after a message is sent, the phone thinks it didn't go so sends it again. To fix it, either add the palm messaging as an exception to your X-button task manager, or (as I do) simply press the OK button on the phone to minimise it rather than close it. That should also avoid your CommManager popping up too.
Never used PocketCM, so don't know if/how that might be interfering with it though.
Good luck.
Extreme Text
This is not a Freeware, but it works very well, and uses the Messaging Inbox. There is an update due out in about to weeks where he is planning to implement a lot of the request made in the forum. Below is the link to the authors website.

I found what you were talking about, it is the same application but a different [newer?] version. I have been using it about half the day so far and no reports yet of duplicate messages. I think you answered my question!!!
In WM6, when I had several new text messages I could do the following:
1. Go into Text Messages
2. Read the first new message.
3. On the navigation buttons i could push the "left" button and the "right" button to go back and forth between messages.
The above steps no longer work with the ROM I downloaded from this forum (WM6.1 080408 Final For Excalibur WWE with English - By Kavana). I did download and install the eT9 fix already.
Thanks!
Threaded
Are you using threaded messaging or the old email style messaging? One of the best things about 6.1 is that you can use threaded messaging. To enable it, go to start - settings - accessibility - SMS Inbox threading and enable it. After that make sure to actually close the messaging app, or if you prefer restart the phone. Not exactly what you were looking for, but it makes texting so much better imo and makes switching between messages the old fashioned way irrelevant.
Yes, I am using threaded messaging. However sometimes I get messages from more than one person -- or I get alerts for work and I need to scroll through them all. It would be nice to be able to navigate to the next message with one button rather than three.
Then turn off threading messages.
Should work the old fashion way.
Does anyone else get this?
Sometimes, when I compose a text and press Send in the default TouchFlo app, nothing happens.
Other times, it turns out it has sent, but the message doesn't show in my Sent Items, nor does it appear on the TouchFlo app's thread.
Sometimes it works fine, the message appears in Sent and I've got a proper threaded view of the conversation.
Is there any fix to make it more consistent, or failing that, can I remove it and go back to the default WM 6.1 threaded SMS view?
sometimes when i send a message through touchflo i think it gone then i go into the windows messaging part and i get the message tellimg it couldnt be send
Yeah, I get that too. But if you forward it to the same number, it goes fine. Very weird.
I'm hoping this new ROM fixes it, but can't test it yet.
Nice to know it's not just me, anyway.
Hi all.
I was wondering if anybody who has updated to Android 2.2 is having issues with the stock messaging app when composing messages? When I write a message, the message conversation randomly skips to the top of the conversation where the earliest message is listed. When this happens you can no longer see the message composer box, and have to manually scroll all of the way through the messages back to the bottom to be able to review/send the message. Very annoying when you have a significantly long conversation!
I had that a while back, only it was when i sent the message it would jump to the top,,, and it was pre Froyo,,,, havent had this issue thur far on SETrom 4.5, so heres hoping!

Yes, I definitely see this. I don't know if it has to do with the number of messages or anything. But in the end, I use chompSMS for my messaging needs. I only noticed it because the native app shows you whether an MMS has been successfully sent or not - so I was playing around in there, and found it was jumping around a lot. Basically, as I typed, and the word suggestion bubbles appeared, it just went a little crazy. I run the HTC_IME mod keyboard - so not sure if it was that - I didn't do further testing, as I said, I just use compSMS
