I have tried the Palm ripped threader for wm6 which I love because of its integration in and just appealing user interface but it seems to have some severe problems. Sometimes after closing the program after sending a message the CommManager or other programs will also pop up behind the palm app and I will have to close them too. The worst part though is that it almost always sends duplicate previous messages. Currently I am using PocketCM for my contacts and sms messaging but it has drawbacks like trying to send a message to someone that isnt a contact.
So yeah, I would really like to find a text message threading app like the palm one but that doesnt send duplicate messages over and over again, any suggestions or am I SOL?
My vote - stick with Palm Messaging
I've been using the WM6 "Palm" messaging since I first converted to WM6 (and the previous version on WM5 too) and it's always worked flawlessly.
The duplicate messages problem is a known one with ANY of the text messaging systems on the phone. It occurs when the application is closed shortly after a message is sent, the phone thinks it didn't go so sends it again. To fix it, either add the palm messaging as an exception to your X-button task manager, or (as I do) simply press the OK button on the phone to minimise it rather than close it. That should also avoid your CommManager popping up too.
Never used PocketCM, so don't know if/how that might be interfering with it though.
Good luck.
Extreme Text
This is not a Freeware, but it works very well, and uses the Messaging Inbox. There is an update due out in about to weeks where he is planning to implement a lot of the request made in the forum. Below is the link to the authors website.

I found what you were talking about, it is the same application but a different [newer?] version. I have been using it about half the day so far and no reports yet of duplicate messages. I think you answered my question!!!

Hi all,
Since I upgraded my T-Mobile ppc to 4.01.16 ENG Rom and 6.25.02 Radio, I have had bad experience on SMS sending. The sms I send is received by the recipients twice or trice and I am sure that I am charged with the extra sms. I have been thinking that my new radio version is not compatible to where I am (I am currently in Asia-Pacific/Philipines which uses GSM900/1800 but I am going to and from the US and Phil so I also need my device to be compatible with US network). I have been researching this forum and found out that radio downgrade is not possible and very dangerous for my device.
But now, I think I have found the real culprit. I always send messages through the 'mail' software (today panel and tap on 'no unread messages' part), of course through SMS. When I send the SMS and close the 'mail' software before before the message is sent (that is before the message sent icon on top appears), SMS is sent mutiple times. But when I wait the message sent icon to appear before I close the 'mail' software, the SMS is only sent once. I am very sure of this for I have observed this for quite some time already.
Is there an app or something to correct this? I need help for I am charged at least twice or trice for the SMS I send. Thanks a lot.
Try this method: Open Contacts, select the name and tap & hold on the name and select "Send SMS". Sometimes the s/w doesn't get the aknowledgement from the GSM network so it attempts to send it again.
Thanks Biso. Can you recommend a better software other than the 'mail' default program? Or can I make the mail program 'unclosable' so that it will on be minimized. I'm using SPB Pocket Plus so the 'x' button is closing the apps. I just want hte mail program to be also minimized ang the rest are closed. Thanks
Hi,
I don't prefer any other mail program than the standard one especially if you are connected to MS Exchange server. It's fully integrated with it, but for POP3 mail I heard that nPOPw is very good http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=839
As for minimizing the mail s/w, even tho I don't see any difference between closing and minimizing (except for on line s/w like MSN messenger), but with each task manager (I use Magic Button) you should find an option to assign the current window to "Keep Alive" flag. Then the x button will only minimize it (switch to the next window or Today if all off).
Thanks Biso. Just found out that SPB Pocket Plus has a 'minimize by gesture' feature which you can add to list the program you just want to minimize. And it works, when I just minimize the 'mail' software the sms I send is only sent once (recipient only receive it once). Thanks a lot. Guess this is a bug on T-Mobile WM2003 Rom?
I've developed a new problem with the M2000. It frequently (readas: always) sends an SMS twice, for no apparent reason. The "message sent" icon rarely appears so I don't even know when it does it, and even on the odd occasion where it does send a message once, it resends it when it recieves a message.
I'm currently on the 1.40 rom, but I had this problem with the previous version 1.31 and I think I had it with the one the phone came with, about 1.22ish.
Any ideas on whats causing it and how to stop it because its really irritating and its costing a fortune!
Thanks
Do you have something like PocketPlus installed?
If so, then you'll need to make an exception for tmail.exe in the close button feature.
Actually, I do use Pocket Plus, its a very good app (for the most part). I've made the exception and I'll do some testing.
Thanks
As an alternative, just let the messaging app open until the "message sent" bubble appears.
If you close it before that bubble appears, your SMS will be sent twice (most of the time... :?).
If you wait for the "message sent" before you close the messaging app, they will be sent just once.
HTH,
BGK
I had this problem with my M2000, but once I added tmail.exe to the exceptions list then the problem has gone away.
I did a soft restart after i added it just to make shure and ever since then it has been fine.
I've added tmail.exe and haven't had the problem since.
Does anyone know how to export the exception list so I don't have to redo them all after a hard reset?
Anyone get it to work? txtman sends messages but doesn't pick them up. I never could get the Q one to work, still can't in this either. This could be a deal breaker for me until one works for it.
Ugh. I'm having the same problem (as are we all w/ wm6 apparently) with txtman. was one of my most used apps on wm5 so def disappointed. hope ben harashima gets us an update soon (http://www.benhirashima.com/software/).
same here. im so disappointed!
SMS Threader
I use the Palm Messaging Beta 4 for threaded messages. The only differences from WM5 are that the fonts are smaller, and that for some reason my old inbox is still there. This is fine for me because I can now send MMS with the default app (cannot be done through the Palm program). All SMS's come in through the Palm app and MMS's come in through my text/multimedia inbox. Seems to work great for me!
yeah but the back button is useless in the palm sms threading program because it was intended for pcs with TOUCH screens. can someone map the back button to being the ok button for the pdas?
How to go back to main window

I got the same problem, when I click into a chat, I can't go back to the main window which can help me switch into inbox, sent box, draft & trash.
Anybody know how to go back to the main window in Palm thread sms Beta4?
with which button?
you must use task manager to close the program and then open it up again. PITA! i stopped using it, i downgraded to wm5 and am using text man now. couldn't be happier!
I haven't tried the Palm threaded messagaing again on my Dash yet since upgrading to the official WM6, but I did install it on my Vox. It works. I took screenshots of it on my Vox.

Anyone else have problems with text messaging?
Scenario: I receive a text message, the notification pops up on screen. I have my phone handy, so i hit the reply button.
The phone takes me to Windows Mobile text messaging. I send my text message reply. If the same person texts me back, it is not registered as being read.
So i exit the screen back to the TouchFlo 3d menu. I have a new text message (that i have already seen and read)
So i go to the windows mobile text system to read it...again.
NOW, lets say i have a full conversation with someone. 30 messages later, I still have 30 unread messages, every time i open the windows mobile text messanger, it removes ONE new message, not all.
So, i never get to use the TouchFlo 3d messenger, which is half decent, and the WM6.1 text messenger is stupid.
Does anyone know of a setting, or a third party text program that will over ride this crap, or am i just hoping this all works out.
Am i really the only one who has text messaging difficulties?

this is a known issue my friend...
download SafeInBoxExtender... search the main forum...
it will let you "mark all messages as read" ..
it will cure your problem right up..
*nods* i have it already, it doesnt exactly "cure" the problem, UGH!
We shouldnt have to come up with stupid fixes for stuff microsoft should already have fixed.
Is 6.5 slated to fix some of this garbage?
I have another problem
i cant use the TF messaging
allot of times it tells me message not sent
and if not there is no delivery report
i found out the there is a TF delivery report i must check 1st
but its not fixed !!!
when i go out of the message it becoms unchecked !!
So at the end i used the Win messaging with no problems there
but i wish i can just click the incoming message and reply right away
hmm how odd, i don't have either of those issues.
Which version of the TP2 are you guys using?

U mean u reply on sms from the TF thread mode with no problems and u receive a delivery report ???
without having to use the Win messaging mode ?
why me then?
hope any one can help me
my Rom version is 1.19.415.1
dated 06/12/09
im using the sprint TP2
Another partial fix here...Partial because Ive only using the new dll for a bout a week(not sure of long temr effects) & I cant make a successful backup using sprite backup etc without adding the dll files to the exclude list of files to backup.
im not quite sure i understand what you just said.
The way Windows Mobile handles sending SMS when in low or no signal areas is very annoying. If it fails to send the message it stores it in the drafts with a link to try resending it in the conversation view. You can tap the retry link but if it fails again it will store it in drafts AGAIN and now you have multiple retry links. When it succeedes it doesn't even remove the failed ones.
If someone could change it so that it will keep auto-retrying and wait until signal is back to send it, it would be great.
If that is too hard, is it possible to make it just show only 1 retry link in the conversation view and then auto-remove it once it successfully sends? I hate having to go to drafts and delete multiple messages.
Dear petard,
it seems as if nobody is intersted in developping such an useful hack in order to remove one of the most annyoing bug our PDA are provided with.
I'd like my PDA to look like a Nokia phone sometimes, even though I wouldn't need to..... but I wonder why such an advanced device as a PDA phone can't have a similar feature. It's really weird, I didn't expect Microsoft not to solve the problem
Agreed, this is highly annoying...
Worse yet is that if an SMS fails to be sent from HTC's TF3D SMS app, it actually appears in the stock WM SMS app's conversation view without a resend link, so you don't even know that it hasn't actually been sent.
this is so annoying and has drove me crazy since i got my phone back in april. i dont understand why all my older cell phones did this but my SMARTphone does not. i am constantly needingt this feature
Not sure what phone you are using, however with my HD2 if you use custom message client made by Death Angle then he has a built in auto retry sending message. It is quite a nice message client.
