Is HTC sync (the client side) part of Sense?
Can I install it separately? If so where could I get it?
Thanks.
There is an executable file on your SD card for it.
You can also download the latest version from HTC:
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=312&cat=3&dl_id=933
Might've been clearer on that, but what I'm looking for is the part that installs on the phone.
EDIT:
Nevermind, the only thing I needed it for was to get the contacts from Outlook, but I imported them through my Google account.
Thread resolved.

hi all
i am making a new thread but i searched forum couldnt find anything or maybe i missed it.
so i have debranded Desire 2.10.405.2, on PC(win7 32-bit) i have both HTC sync 3 and the old version HTC sync. i am closing the other when i am using one.
ok here is the problem; when i try to sync contacts on HTC sync old version, i get message like synchronization failed. i can save contacts to SD card but cant sync on PC. so i downloaded and installed HTC sync 3. theres no problem with finding device. but calendar and contacts tab is invisible. on contacts and calendar i cant turn sync button on.
message "sync failed" began to appear after i installed the last froyo OTA update. i had gold card in while doing it and i have no other problems with phone.
so have anyone else had this problem ? and whats the solution ?
thank you
Hi,
this evening I had an update of HTC Sync to 3.0. Everything worke well, however, in the "Device Panel" I do not see information about the SD card (in the first instance Sync let me know that my phone had no SD card at all!). nor can I sync data from the card.
On the panel, there is also an option to install apps, and when checking, I found to apps in the folder, FDHttpd.apk and FDH16ttpd.apk (if I remember the latter's name properly).
Possibly, I should install one of these on the phone? And which one?
Thank you for your comments /suggestions
Hi,
I had thie same issue when I updated HTC Sync yesterday (HTC Desire).
What I did was unmount the SD card (Menu/Settings/SD & Phone Storage), once I got the notification it was unmounted I simply mounted it again and the sync worked. I also restarted the HTC Sync software during the unmount/mount cycle.
I never needed to install any apk from the HTC Sync folder.
Hope this helps.
Steve
This seems to be an issue with the HTC Sync application on the phone, or rather the inability to update it.
Uninstall "HTC Sync" on the phone (not your PC) and reconnect to the PC to automatically get the version provided with the PC HTC Sync (FDHttpd.apk, or FDhttpd16.apk if you are using Android 1.6).
I just got myself a desire and naturally I want to copy all my contacts from MS Outlook to the phone. I downloaded the latest version of HTCSYNC from the HTC website. Installed and kept getting the dreaded Blue screen of Death(BSOD). eventually I managed to roll back the registry and all is stable now. I am running XP SP3 and certainly didn't expect any issues with a mature process such as sync'n contacts. It appears to be related to the HTCSYNC installation but don't know how to get around this. Can anyone please provide any answers or help...
PS I believe there is also a version of HTCSYNC on the SD card that came with the phone...
Any help appreciated. Thanks JD

go to your outlook and export your contacts to a csv file and than login into your gmail and import it there... than just login to your gmail with/in your phone under settings>>account... sync it.. wolaaa u have ur contacts in you phone..
Thanks Harvin23 I appreciate the speedy response I'll get this does as soon as I get a minute as the PC that contains my contacts is a works PC 300+ contacts. I'll export this tonight and then import them into my google account. Do you just connect via wireless to google and do the business you mentioned? Thanks again..john..
I had no end of trouble with HTCSync creating multiple incorrect Calendar entries. After doing some research I got hold of MyPhoneExplorer, and this seems to handle syncing from Outlook really well.
Thanks werdna is this quite a simple tool to use...all i require is something to copy 350 contacts from XP laptop onto Desire flawlessly..preferably with all fields present..job done. I assume you don't need HTC sync for anything else of importance? Thanks JD
Also werdna how do I install the ADB drivers if it is included in HTC sync? is there a way to extract this?
The links are all in german...

MyPhoneExplorer, at its simplest, is - as its name suggests - an app for exploring the contents of your phone, and you can view and edit Contacts, Call lists, Appointments, Alarms, Messages and Files. It's very flexible - for example you can view Messages in threads or by Inbox/Sent/Archive. You can also, very easily, set it to sync Contacts and Appointments with Outlook - and you can view all the changes before accepting them.
I don't fully understand the ADB drivers question. HTC Sync just 'worked' (or not!) straight from the installation - my Desire had a copy on the SD Card, and I later updated to a newer version.
Hope this helps!
Hi All,
I am hoping someone here can gimme a pointer or two on the issue I am seeing :
I have a Desire HD and I am using HTC sync version 3.0.5551 , the only things I sycn are contacts and calendar on my laptop, I don't have Route66 or any TomTom products installed on the phone but in the following folder I have Route66 related files
C:\Users\my_username\AppData\Local\Htc
The files there are:
R66Api.log,
ROUTE66Engine.log,
ROUTE66Engine.log.0000
and ROUTE66UIPreferences.xml,
this sort of thing normally doesn't bother me but the ROUTE66Engine.log file has grown to over 10GB in size on more than one occassion (32Gb last weekend) and the only way I can delete it is to stop all HTC services and then delete the files.
Once I start the HTC services again these files re-appear.
Again I don't have any mapping software on the phone, does anyone have any idea's as to why these files keep appearing on my laptop, ( I don't sync the phone with any other PC's)
The phone is on the Stock ROM as well.
Thanks in advance.
Since posting this question earlier today the log file was at 4.6Gb now it's over 9gb.. anyone seen this before?
i have an evo3d and im having the exact same problem.
first i thought i had a spyware or smt. but then discovered that those log files are gobblin down 38GBs of my precious SSD.
i too do not have route66 installed.
im running a kingcobra rom
s-off, rooted.. (not that i think it has anything to do with the phone)
i think its some kind of a bug in htc sync software.. anyone else having the same problem?.. anyone have a solution?
i think everytime it syncs everything again wich makes a lot of space

First of all i think your thread is removed soon...
If you're on 4.0 or 4.1 you can save contacts just press menu button and they're on your sd card and if you need them again its just to import them.
And you can sync them with Google.
So if you're on 4.0-4.1 you need to manually write down your contacts on your phone then save them. :good:
I also had this problem when I moved to 4.0...
What I did was:
- In Kies, export my saved contacts do VCF (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25029961&postcount=5 )
- After this, I imported the contacts to Outlook.
- Downloaded this: http://sourceforge.net/projects/googlesyncmod/
- Used this program to sync betwwen Outlook and Gmail...
If you have your contacts in Gmail, you never have to worry about this again...
the dev section is always the right place to post everything anywhere !
Just make all your contacts Google/Gmail (therefore synced) before flashing (check them online to be sure), then they will be synced back as soon as you associate your new ROM with your Google account.
You'll never need to worry about syncing or losing contacts again.
