Should you keep 4G on when you are using home wifi? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed that whenever I turn on my wifi at home, the phone automatically disconnects my 4G, even if my 4G widget is turned on. As soon as I turn off my home wifi, the phone will then re-connect to Sprint's wimax network.
Is it ok to leave the 4G widget on while I am at home and have the status of 4G show as disconnected or will doing this drain my battery faster. Right now, I manually turn on 4G and turn off wifi, every time I exit my home and then do the opposite when I return home
Any thoughts?

I say just leave 4G off and use Wifi.

Wifi/3g

If I turn wifi on at my house and leave a little later, will it automatically switch back to 3g until wifi is available again? And so on throughout the day?

Depends on your Wifi sleep policy.
If set to never sleep, then as long as you stay in wifi range it will stay connected even if the screen is off. If you venture out of wifi range it will jump to 3G and continuously search for a new wifi network at whatever the default TouchWiz scan interval is.
If set to sleep when screen is off, then it will swap back to 3G when the phone screen is off and therefore do your syncing over 3G while the screen is off. When you turn the screen back on, wifi will reconnect if still within range.
If set to never sleep when plugged in, then it will remain on wifi as long as you're within range and have the phone plugged in. Otherwise it will revert to 3G if no longer plugged in and the screen is off. (Never used this choice, so I could be off a bit.)
Pretty sure I covered the cases. I've tried the screen off (TouchWiz default) choice and never (current setting) choice. I find the plugged in choice pointless for me.

Intentionally turn off Wifi but it automatically reconnects!!

My phone is running CM 7.0.0 and was working well for a while but just today everytime i try to disconnect my wifi to use 3G it (in settings turn off wi-fi) my 3g bars come up for a tad and then before it cna connect my wi-fi automatically turns back on. I have tried this multiple times, wi-fi turns off, and two seconds later automatically turns on.
Any ideas?

Does WIFI kill battery more than T-mo 3G/4G

i checked the option "always" Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. Does this mean if its "off" that it will use 3g/4g instead? Also does wifi kill battery faster than the networks data
If you have it set to turn off WiFi during sleep, then when you turn off the screen, WiFi turns off and 3G turns on. When you turn the screen back on, 3G turns off and WiFi turns on.
WiFi generally uses less power than constantly being connected to 3G.
Setting WiFi to sleep when the screen is off often hurts battery life with normal use because it takes more power to keep turning radios on and off (over and over again) than it does to just leave them on.

[Q] WiFi Slow to Wake Up

I have a Verizon GN. I have an issue with wifi taking a really long time to wake up after the screen has been off. Turning wifi off and on will usually work quickly, but if I don't do this, I can't access the internet sometimes for over a minute even though the wireless is supposedly on and connected (blue). This happens only on my wireless network at home (not at work). My wireless setting on the phone is set to keep wifi on during sleep and wifi optimization is checked. I've unchecked wifi optimization and it didn't really help. Is there something I need to do to my router?

Phone slips into 1x with screen off, I have to Airplane toggle to get 4G back

So most all of the time I pick up my phone and turn it on I see it is in 1x. This happens all of the time. And, every time I can get it back to 4G by toggling Airplane mode. But if I do not toggle Airplane mode, sometimes it takes a while for it to come off 1x onto 4G.
Anyone else have this issue?

I've been having the same issue with my ATT model (H810). It'll go from have perfect 4G LTE service with 5 bars, then after a few minutes with the screen off it'll have no data connection whatsoever until I put it into airplane and back out.
