Does WIFI kill battery more than T-mo 3G/4G - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i checked the option "always" Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep. Does this mean if its "off" that it will use 3g/4g instead? Also does wifi kill battery faster than the networks data

If you have it set to turn off WiFi during sleep, then when you turn off the screen, WiFi turns off and 3G turns on. When you turn the screen back on, 3G turns off and WiFi turns on.
WiFi generally uses less power than constantly being connected to 3G.
Setting WiFi to sleep when the screen is off often hurts battery life with normal use because it takes more power to keep turning radios on and off (over and over again) than it does to just leave them on.

[Q] Wi-fi keeps disconnecting after a while after turning off screen

Before I start I want to make this clear
Yes, my wifi policy is on "never" and I have pressed menu>save rather than just exiting out.
[Q] When my screen shuts off, after around 10-20 minutes my wifi disconnects (i can tell by checking router status on my comptuer to see attached devices) and when I turn on my phone and unlock it will go from 3g > wifi right away. The reason I want wifi on constantly is because the wifi radio uses less power than the 3g radio.
Now I'm aware that some roms have an option to turn off radio for 3g/wifi when not in use and will turn them on when the system needs to update/sync. However, my wifi is set to "never" sleep and there is no "always enable mobile data" option on my rom. I'm wondering why it will disconnect my wifi when my policy is set to never.
ROM:
MIUI 0.12.11 (0.12.3 fixed the wifi disconnect problem, but 0.12.11 is a newer rom)
bcblend 2.6.32.25 cfs stable (SBC custom)

Wifi/3g

If I turn wifi on at my house and leave a little later, will it automatically switch back to 3g until wifi is available again? And so on throughout the day?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Depends on your Wifi sleep policy.
If set to never sleep, then as long as you stay in wifi range it will stay connected even if the screen is off. If you venture out of wifi range it will jump to 3G and continuously search for a new wifi network at whatever the default TouchWiz scan interval is.
If set to sleep when screen is off, then it will swap back to 3G when the phone screen is off and therefore do your syncing over 3G while the screen is off. When you turn the screen back on, wifi will reconnect if still within range.
If set to never sleep when plugged in, then it will remain on wifi as long as you're within range and have the phone plugged in. Otherwise it will revert to 3G if no longer plugged in and the screen is off. (Never used this choice, so I could be off a bit.)
Pretty sure I covered the cases. I've tried the screen off (TouchWiz default) choice and never (current setting) choice. I find the plugged in choice pointless for me.

[Q] WiFi Slow to Wake Up

I have a Verizon GN. I have an issue with wifi taking a really long time to wake up after the screen has been off. Turning wifi off and on will usually work quickly, but if I don't do this, I can't access the internet sometimes for over a minute even though the wireless is supposedly on and connected (blue). This happens only on my wireless network at home (not at work). My wireless setting on the phone is set to keep wifi on during sleep and wifi optimization is checked. I've unchecked wifi optimization and it didn't really help. Is there something I need to do to my router?

[Q] wifi issue

Firmware B111, kicking out of wifi when screen goes off. Wifi is set up "never go off", but still it goes.
I see it on "Smart Profiles",(tried "Profile Flow" also), as I made a rule based on home wifi to switch BT off, when I'm at home.
After some time, when screen goes off, it turns BT on. When I take the phone, it "see" wifi and switches BT off again. In log file of Profile Flow I can see, how the "HOME" profile goes on and off every 5-10 or 15 minutes.
So, the problem is- why WIFI does not keep on all the time. All the possible battery savers are taken off, but still no constant wireless network connection during phone sleep...
And my wifi based profiles don't work as they suppose to...
double check power save option?

I had a similar issue but when I switch Power Plan option from Smart to Normal in Power Manager, it seems it's ok now

WiFi doesn't turn off properly

Hi. Today I have discovered what was causing my battery life bad. So, if I turn off WiFi when I'm connected to router - it will turn off properly. When I turn on wifi and turn off (without connecting) it will stay in 'scanning mode' even if the icon says it is turned off. Is there any possible fix for that?
