[App] Yay my first app called SmartLock 0.1 - Windows Mobile Software Development

Hi all!
Ive been taking stuff from the XDA-Dev Community for a long time so I thought while I learn C# Programming ill post my Apps up here (as a means of giving something back and having a fresh supply of guinea pigs heh heh heh). Anyway this is ver 0.1 and i am a beginner so use with caution.
Also I only just finished it so I would like to hear about feature requests if possible. ANNDD i made this using the Samsung SDK so i dont know which fones it will work with i doubt it will work with HTC as it uses the light sensor (the only thing used from it). So if someone wants to share with me the code on how to read the HTC light sensor (get the Lumens) then I can make it dual compatible .
Anyhoo this is the point of the app: I dont like to lock my phone with the password all the time as i usually listen to MP3s and I dont like the fact that my fone (i8000) sometimes unlocks the screen on receiving a message or email etc. The worst thing is when youre walking and happily listening to your MP3s and then suddenly you hear beeps from your phone as it presses against your leg!
If i lock it i have to put a password on it if i dont lock it sometimes the End Key gets pressed and turns the screen on or some event on the phone turns the screen on and then you have to dig it out your pocket and the Sleeve of the phone and close it again.
Maybe its just me but it bugs me very much.
So what this app does is when the screen is turned on in low light surroundings it presents another lock screen. As im not very good with graphics (i dont even have a program icon ) etc its just three buttons. The first is displayed at the top, tap it show the second and then the third and then it becomes unlocked and you can use it as normal. So next time you receive a message it wont be bugging you that your fone may be making a phonecall or typing gibberish to someone in your address book and so you can listen to your mP3's in peace.
Attached are screen shots of the proggie and the CAB file to install.
Please give me Feature suggestions and other App suggestions im hoping to be fluent in C# before summer is over.
PS: Im testing the app myself so im not sure about battery life etc. I didnt use polling of the screen power state rather i used the Power Notifications and the message queue method.

Looks cool, I would test it but I have a HTC phone so I cant . Just one question, how would you go about handling this in the dark, will it just lock or is there some way to quickly switch it off on unlock?
Also, if you want some buttons made, pm me I am a graphic design student and would have no trouble doing it for you

In the dark the three buttons will appear on the screen and you have 10 seconds to press them. Once those buttons are pressed you can use the phone until you lock it again by turning the screen off (not the full Pass Code to lock but just turning the screen off with a quick press). This way if you turn the fone on in a dark room you still have the ability to use it. However if it accidently turns on in your pocket the same three buttons are shown but after 10 seconds it will turn back off.

Ok thanks well if you find a way to port it to HTC I would definetly use it.

Its not so much a major port I just dont have an HTC Device to test it on and the only thing i need is the api to get a value from the light sensor if you can find me that i can put an HTC version in one second .

Through the power of search
I hope this works for you http://www.koushikdutta.com/2008/07/htc-light-sensor-sdk.html

I need an app like this, my wife hates it when my HD2 pocket dials her. If you can make it compatible with HTC I'll be all over it! Nice job!

Interesting stuff! I'll be updating this. As soon as it's HTC compatible, I'll be testing it

Very interesting.
Hoping to see an HTC enabled version soon

how much ram does it take?

Also I will be fixing the "Object Disposed" exception problem from the Omnia though i dont have that to test on anymore i sold it but i know where the problem lies UPdates soon thanks for all the replies its nice to have the encouragement.

We HTC owners appreciate the attempt!

Write a Mortscript to do it.
ehh, that's a bit too difficultf or me..
I think Don'tForget will do what you are wanting.
You can get it from http://dashapps.googlepages.com
Thanks. I tried Don't Forget. But it crashed when it tries to switch to Flight mode.

I will write you up one this weekend and post it here for you.
What times do you want it to switch the radio off and what time to turn it back on?

Bupahs, that's so nice of you. Can you set it to from 9PM to 8AM? It's just a text script, right? So I can modify it later? Thanks!
I think this should fit the bill nicely http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Communications/SleepWell-32308.shtml
There's a pair of programs i use(d). Both by the same company. One will schedule automated events (alarms, shut-off, etc) and the other will record macros.
Essentially you record a macro (choose start at home screen) and work your way into comm manager as if you normally would, and this device will remmeber what you did.
Next you would set an autorun in the second program.
A few things i have noticed..
Doesn't function perfectly when starting in LOCK mode, so you have to fake an unlock by pressing the unlock key and Z, then just press the HANGUP button to make sure it is on the home screen
You have to leave time considering for LAG with your phone, i would give it a good couple of seconds more than it actually takes for each step to make sure it doesnt mess anything up....realize that it isnt remembering your destination, just your keypresses and pauses...
Program has a VERY AKWARD and barely legible font, so trust it!
The auto-run program comes packed with a bunch of automatically programmed alarms and events, so delete them when you install
The names of these programs are:
MacroRecorder and AutoFlight ...both are by CyberHorse i believe

pretty much, I will comment the parts you can edit.
I write so many Mortscripts its pretty simple anymore.

Personally I like a good simple and small foot print Mortscript. Why install two programs to do what a 5k script will do?

Thanks Evi1d33d. This one works great. The only minor problem is the Edit dialog doesn't like my font. Most messages are truncated.
Off topic but does anyone know a free app that let you schedule when the phone turns on/off?
I think it's almost impossible since the phone isn't running anything when it's off.

Sleepwell is great, however, I guess I'm missing something....
I can define the hour to turn on airplane mode... how about turn OFF airplane mode? How this software knows when I want my phone back? I couldn't find any settings to it, or am I missing something
I think I got the picture... you define one setting to turn off, and then define another setting to turn on. Is it? Am I right?

In Call Backlight Solved

Touch InCall Screen Tweak was just posted in the Raphael forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991
It's the work of 600GOL and Steve Pritchard. I just tested it and it worked on a Touch HD unbranded (Stock ROM).
This is their work - just sharing it so you guys know it works for the Touch HD as well. The app is attached.
brief write up here http://www.fuzemobility.com/in-call-screen-timeout-solved-really/
It works based on screen orientation - if the screen is face up the backlight turns on - if the phone is vertical it turns off. So it is gsen based and not light sensor based. You can keep turning the phone face up/vertical and it keeps toggling the backlight.
Thanks for sharing !
You will make some happy persons I thing
WOW, great job!! I hope can use it in cook rom
Thanks for posting it!
It don't work well with my HD.
Only worked for one episode.
Then it stopped working now.
on my HD dutty rom v2.1 it is working like a charm !!!
Installing Touch in Call Screen Tweak
I am new to the Touch HD. Can anyone tell me how to install it. Probably a dumb question, but I have nothing to go on.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards
O
It's just a cab file so just move the cab to your phone and run it. Once installed it works without an configuration. A new version was released today that fixes a bug with it sometimes not working so if you have any issues you should try the newest version. It's a great app.
Backlight control
Thanks for that. I have another basic question. Where do I put the cab files? The manual for the HTC Touch is frankly not particularly helpfuland a trawl through the stufff which is already on it does not really help.
M<any thanks for your assistance.
Regards
Oliver
Backlight Tweak
OK, I can save you the trouble now with many thanks. I have found an excellent YouTube demeonstration which I attach here for all the other ignoramuses (ignorami) like me.

Thanks again.
Oliver
Thanks a lot
Oh, that's slick!!
Thanks!
Didn't work for me, I'm afraid.
I was making a call that required me to hit numbers on the keypad, and I kept having to turn the screen back on manually, every time I was asked to enter something.
Are there any configuration issues, maybe caused by settings on the phone? (I'm also using HD Tweak, but assume others that have used this have HD Tweak too.)

Did you hold the screen so it is 'face up'?
Why is this so difficult??
I have seen hundreds of posts on this topic. I am not a programmer and I do appreciate every effort the code writers put into their work on this forum; but it seems this would be an easy one. Simply trigger the light sensor to come on when a call begins. Have the light sensor be polled every second or two during a call so if it is near your ear it turns the screen off. When away from your ear, like when you need the keypad, it turns the screen on. Thats it! At the end of the call it goes back to normal use. What is so difficult about this? I have had my HD not 2 months and the simpliest thing in the world...making a phone call...becomes a chore on this phone. It is really a pain in the a$$. Just calling voicemail is a nightmare because I have to pull away and press buttons and go back. Can someone help?

There's always been a conflict of light sensor and gsensor and light sensor isn't great anyway because they put it in the earpiece so it is in the shade in a lot of angles... anyway, you can try this as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3296423&postcount=382
it keeps the backlight on for 1 min then it dims the backlgiht and leaves the screen on without a backlight...
Great work, thanks!!!
hey thanks, this works great
This tweak utilizes the light sensor. Does this mean that it won't work when answering a phonecall in a dark room ????
Why use your phone in a darkroom? haha sorry for that...
I am using the program now on Davideuck v3 rom and its working flawlessly till now..
I also have HD Tweak activated, off course but the program overrules i think:
In the program it selves i have activated ignore light sensor, and also ignore first screen off...
So it works.
Sadly I don't think this is working properly with Duttys 2.3 Xtreme

**Possibly Solved** No SMS, MMS Notification During Standby/Sleep

I think I may have stumbled onto a solution to our dreaded quiet phone that doesnt notify us of a SMS or MMS and possibly email when the phone goes to sleep or standby. I have searched asked inquired, and beat every search engine and found absolutely nothing. So being frustrated of seeing msgs pop up when I hit the power button to wake the phone up I went hunting and I think I found it. I tested this all of today and so far I havent missed one yet, and normally I miss at least 3 a day. Its still in a testing phase so I DONT guarantee this works, but with some feedback with others, it might be the solution. I did alot of comparing with my other phones and my 8125 and 8525 had a different value so i changed it to that value.
I have made it a cab file so that anyone who wants to try it can uninstall it if it doesnt work, I suggest a soft reset after making this change. This changes the following location:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:00000001
to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:00000000
Good Luck! And if it works or doesnt, please leave feedback of either thanx or didnt work, like I said so far its working on my att tilt 2 stock eu rom 1.86
Nice one, but its already been solved here.

Well at least its here, I know there is a ton of posts going around in here about this problem, and I did munerous searches, but obviously if you dont get the right keyword you'll never find the post.
so what does this do? light the screen up everytime there is a message? or basically just solve the problem of message not ringing in sleep mode?
Basically it does the same thing it did with the 8125 and the 8525 when a msg comes in the screen wakes up from sleep, so far (I thought) I might have found a solution, but it seems I was beaten to it.
So far there isnt a solution found yet of the alert coming thru without lighting the screen up as far as I know.
yea, i thought it lights up the screen when msg comes. I have a habit of putting the phone to sleep without locking it, so it might cause problem when i put it in my pocket as i receive message more than calls.
Thanks anyway mate

Yeah but if you have the end key setup as a long hold it will lock the screen to prevent that accidential tapping of the screen. Unless you have a modded rom then you would have to see what key it is. But hey for me its better then missing a msg.
Hi AngelDeath,
Just wanted to say thx for this one -I realise this thread is old, but it's sorted my no sms alert issue on my HD2. It had been driving me nuts for ages!

Phone turned on during wedding service! Not cool.

This is one of those problems that was always there but wasn't big enough for me to remember to comment about. Now it became big enough.
I was at a wedding over the weekend. Priest comes in before the service starts, remind people of a few ground rules and remembering to turn off mobiles. I had my phone on a meeting profile (basically something from my Nokia days - a very quiet beep for notifications and no vibrate) but I thought, what the hell, let me just turn it off completely.
So I did. Phone off. To the inside jacket pocket it went.
Wedding service starts. Bride comes in. Everyone sits. To my embarassment, on sitting I hear the Quietly Brilliant intro jingle. I'm think a combination of WTF and "Oh for **** sake!"
The Desire is waaaay too easy to turn on! It should definitely be a long press to turn it on not a regular tap which can happen at any time. I ended up putting it back on my meeting profile as that was a safer way to keep it quiet. This shouldn't have to happen.
I've thought that too. Fortunately not had any issues like that but do agree. I think this will be fixed when silicon cases get here in abundance!
It annoys the hell out of me too.
If you turn the phone off in silent mode then you don't get it when you turn back on but you need to remember to do that,
I think there is an app that does this automatically - sure someone will post the name of it...
Silent Boot is the answer to your problem.
please stop, this got to be the most stupid post i ever seen on any forums....

would've been easier to leave it on silent than turn it off...

Hhmmm. Deliberately misunderstanding the point of the OP topic? I read this and sympathised, have had a few instances myself when phones have turned on in awkward situations myself.
Appreciated the answer. Have installed Silent Boot and am less worried I might get caught out in future.
As to the last posters comments - why waste your time and ours if you are not interested in the thread? maybe you just like reviewing form threads... if that's the case allow me to rebirth your post.

I was tempted to simply diss this individual but let me just politely respond.
1. If this is the most stupid post you have ever seen, then feel happy you only read post written by like-minded people.
2. It would also seem that like-minded people to CerB would believe that design concerns like turning on and off a device are non-concerns. In the current market, let's be honest, there is a huge amount of overlap in smartphone function. And Apple have shown that even selling a sub-par phone can be successfull when you do things like make a "tiny" thing like how the phone transitions from screen to screen a pleasure.
I'm guessing if you CerB were a boss, and someone came to you to spend time making screen transitions really slick, you would have sacked them.
3. What exactly is "ROOOOOOOOOOOOOFL"? I understand ROFL, but not what you put.
As zzleezz indicated, there was really no need for your post, or the tone. But, like I seek to get on these forums, maybe you can get educated.
Maybe ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOFL was him falling down the stairs?? lol!!
download the mute app off the market.. mutes everything.. in one touch, also if its activated and you turn your phone off when it reboots it does not make the startup sound. not perfect but an easy workaround.

That's how it should work.
However, I don't think that this solves the topic starter's problem completely. Silent Boot will mute the bootup sound but, since your phone is on, you will get notifications of other events such as text messages, as Silent Boot will turn up the volume again after boot (although that might happen only if the volume was turned up before shutting down). So, you might still disturb wedding ceremonies with those notifications.
I had a Hero beore Desire, and find it quite annoying that they decided to place the powerbutton on top of the phone. When I put the phone in my jeans pocket, or when I take it out, it turns on the screen and I have found it to starting apps and all kinds. On the Hero the powerbutton was much better placed, imo. Not quite the same thing as OP, but related to the powerbutton, and how easy it is to accidentaly push it.
Only issue with SilentBoot is that it restores your previous settings after boot, so your phone can turn on silently without you knowing, then your awesome ringtone can steal the show instead of the boot music.
That works around the sound, but not the issue of the phone being very easy to turn on. The button placement is pretty bad to start with, and isn't recessed, so is very easy to press accidentally. I had mine turn on on a plane - cue lots of "there's always one" glances from nearby passengers... I wonder if this is something that could be tweaked somehow if there is some flash setting for a dwell time on the power button.

I hav had the almost esact same problem! quite embarising at times

Phone picks up and hangs up when pulled from pocket

The drag up/down (accept/deny call) is really idiotic when the phone is in a pocket, where you have to pull up the phone from the pocket when you get a call. Do anybody have any solution to this problem? are there any alternatives accepting/denying calls?
Yes, this is very frustrating for me also, haven't found a solution though!
Use Lockbot Pro from the market
You can choose from several types of locking screens, and modify them.
Word of advice: get the Pro version, it is much more stable then the free one
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
@fluor: I know a guy that use fluor as nickname...are you from norway by any chance?
Lockbot pro, is a bit lame, it only works intermittently!
I have only tried the free version, and have no intention of trying the paid one, just on the off chance that it may work correctly!!
Surely, a developer would wish to entice someone into paying for their app, by making a trial/free version that actually works!!
What's the bloody point, in making a free app that doesn't work properly, as if I would pay for this rubbish!
HTC should have designed an unlock screen that doesn't hang up your call, simply when you take it out of your pocket, I mean, is it really to much to ask, for a device that costs this much!
It's pretty basic stuff really.... I don't want an elephants ear on a bun, I just don't want to keep hanging up on people when I take my phone out of my bloody pocket!
i also hope for a free app. i see there are a lot when i search for lock, but not sure which actually work.
for the hang up problem, a workaround is to put the phone the other way when you insert it into the pocket, so it picks up instead of hanging up when you pull it up. however it's stupid.

You say Lockbot Pro is lame, but have only tried the free version??
I think you mean the developer is lame if he made an unstable free version?
All I can say is that it works perfectly for me, and I can only recommend it based on my own experience.
I had a few problems with the free version, yes...but I took the chance on the Pro version anyways...after all, what's $1.99 or whatever anyway.
And, now I have a lockscreen that works as I want it
also using lockbot pro now to get rid of the useless lock screen from sense.
but it doesnt solve this prob, as it doesnt lock on incoming calls
I have a workaround for you.
Put your desire in your pocket top first.
Then when you take it out of the pocket, if the screen is pressed, then "gesture" will be the opposite of what is needed to answer the call.
You will do a gesture up instead of down to answer the call. That is how I do it
Pattern unlock is useless too. You still get the slide to answer/reject screen before the pattern thingy comes up.
Is there a way we can solve this with a cooked rom? I'm trying to wait for the 2.2 rom to be ready, but this problem is annoying enough to flash now I think.

So now you'll accidentally reject the call instead of picking it up..?

No pulling te screen up doesn't do anything, while pulling it up answers it.
I had a htc hero for about 8 months, always had it top down face towards leg.
Use the desire in the same way and never ever had a call in my pants.
I can't believe HTC have made such an elementary mistake.
I ended up buying a flip case for the phone. Solved the problem and protects the phone and screen as well.
Similar Problem
I have a very similar problem.. Because the vibration is so weak I often do not feel the phone go off in my pocket. Due to the warmth of my leg and moving around the phone continuously picks up by itself.
Does anyone else have this problem?
This is very annoying!!!
If I could only choose to answer calls by the hard button, it would solve it.
Has anybody (rooted) tried using the stock lock screen (the horizonal swipe as opposed to vertical), could this solve your problem?

I want to be able to pull my phone out of my pocket and check who it is then decide what to do.
