Issue: Calls get ignored - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone
I've an ongoing issue with my desire. I thought it might be resolved with a newer radio + android version but it's will ongoing.
The issue is that if some people call me they don't get through and just hear a busy tone. I'll get informed by a message directly after they tried it but didn't even heard a ring.
Is this issue known on the desire? Does someone else have the same issue and is there a fix for this issue?
Currently I'm on Froyo and radio 32.37.00.32U_4.06.00.16_2. I had the issue also with the stock 2.1 firmware.
Any advice is appreciated.

You might want to try this, go to:
menu > settings > wireless & networks > mobile networks > preferred network
and here you have 3 options:
GSM
CDMA
GSM & CDMA
Select GSM.

HTC Desire - Froyo, No HSDPA

To be more accurate, nothing but UTMS.
The phone just will not connect to a network. This morning on 2.1 Eclaire,no problems, upgrade from 13:00GMT and then nothing.
I have gone through the following checks:
Settings, Wilress & Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode, and ensured that both GSM and WCDMA modes are to auto select. In that menu also ensuring that Enable Always-on Mobile data is ticked.
Using above, i have de-selected the options to use GSM only, and WCDMA only, also interchanging both of these with reboots of the phone. No go.
I have also *#*#4636#*#* , Phone Information, to see what the network was connecting as, also ensured that the phone selection preference is WCDMA preferred.
I have also changed this to be 'only' and rebooted.
I'm out of ideas, and frankly looking to see if anyone has had this problem?
Would appreciate thoughts and advice. Thanks in advance!
Same here!!! HSDPA lost immediately after updating to Froyo
Solved now, turns out APN settings got cleared during the update and needed to be rest ...
yep everytime is this APNs
had the same issue today after the upgrade, all the other settings were kept except for the APN which was a bit strange.

Hi curtis818,
Check "Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names". There should be an entry with something like the name of your provider. If this is empty, press "Menu" and add the information, necessary for your provider, to get HSDPA / 3G Connection. These information can easily be found on google.
Hope this helps

[Q] Network settings

Hi all developers! I have one question - have anyone information about where home network information placed? As I see radio settings is independent from ROM settings. Also I see that some settings placed in ROM, for example Call section's NBPCD and Assisted Dialing settings. Problem is that I use Incredible outside from U.S. and some programs wouldn't work fine because it have some limitations in US - for example new Skype work only in WiFi mode. Then I try to run it in 3G network it's write attention like "In the United States you can only make Skype calls over WiFi". Can we fix it?
P.S. changing NBPCD and Assisted Dialing settings give result only for call making process, not for global network settings.
P.P.S. I found one way - we can change file build.prop in ROM image (system/build.prop). There is two sections - ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric and ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha. I change it to my operator's default settings and bingo, I have stock Skype.apk, that work in 3G network. Next step is change stock's backup image. So, have anybody information about OS files, where this information placed?
Last update - simplest way for change build.prop at installed image is SDK's adb pull and adb push commands use. It's checked and really worked.

I thought I had read somewhere that verizon is letting Skype work over 3G. If I can find it again, I'll post it here.
Found a hacked APK over at DroidForums. I'll try to post the link.

WCDMA / GSM auto problem

Hello Guys,
I'm experiencing a problem with my Froyo Desire for probably a week now.
The thing is that in certain areas my Phone can not receive calls / sms or such. In other words "GSM services" dont work. 3g though works fine (stable, strong and fast connection) My Provider is T-Mobile.
After quite a lot of testing I was able to isolate the error:
When WCDMA / GSM is chosen by the phone automatically it seems to me as if it didnt switch "back" to register with my provider via GSM when i want to make a call or if someone wants to call me.
When i switch to "GSM only" manually everything works fine but i have no 3g of course.
I also experience this problem only in certain areas. I live in an area where there is really strong HSDPA available (up to 7mbit\s). When i go to other places of my city i still get HSDPA (not as strong) but calls / sms still work.
The last paragraph may be of no importance, i don know.. probably it helps..
I have googled quite much about this problem and also found a few persons experiencing the same issue but nobody was able to come up with a solution.
I would be very thankful if someone could try to figure this out.

gsm only Desire?
I'm having a nightmare with 3g 2g connectivity on my Desire on the three network whilst at home. If I could manually select gsm only this would be fine as I could still call and text and use wi-fi. Unfortunately my options are gsm/wcdpa (or whatever) auto or the 3g only.
can someone please advise if it is possible to select gsm only and if so, how?
many thanks
Can someone please advise me how if possible, to set the desire to gsm only?

Wireless and network-Mobile network- should be here somewhere.
Thanks, but there is no option for gsm only. It's wcdma only or gsm/wcdma auto. there has to be a way around this.
Similar problem, different version
I've experienced similar problem.
In some area, I can get steady grps signal when I switched GSM only on; but when I switched WCDMA/GSM on, I could get no data connection at all.
I'm using China Unicom's mobile service.
Solution
Hi there,
I've the same issue and I fix it allowing the option GSM/WCDMA Auto in the configuration menu.
Then enter the following code *#*#4636#*#*, select "phone Information" and set preferred network type, set "GSM car (PRL)".
Sorry about my bad english.

[Q] Voice call distortion with CM11-2

I've seen similar issues in other boards, but no definitive solution. When I make calls via mobile network, wi-fi, google voice, or just from the phone itself, the signal is distorted. They can hear me loud and clear, but even the ringing is distorted on my end. I tried switching to GSM only. I've seen suggesting for flashing different kernels, but not in this forum for this device. I wanted to check first to see if anyone here has a definitive solution before I go flashing and praying.

APN - T-Mobile US LTE
I'm not sure which Advanced Network Settings you are referring to. Where would I find what you need?
If your device is the T999 variant not T999L kind, then please switch to EPC.TMobile.com APN.
Reboot after the change.
As to the advanced settings, you are looking for
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Preferred Network type. At least that's the general location on a CM based Kitkat Rom. Other configurations do have this setting but may be called differently.

OK, I switched the APN.
My preferred network type is GSM only. I switched that from GSM/WCDMA perferred after reading a similar thread.
I'm still having this problem. What is the next troubleshooting step?
First off, try with another person on the same Carrier. Second, turn off Wi-Fi completely when on call. See what the results are. If it still has problems when talking to another person on same carrier then go back to Stock and see if the problem repeats.

I downloaded the newest nightly build and that seems to have fixed it. Maybe it was just a problem with that particular build.
Thanks!
