Had a play with a desire, gmail email not kept, just headers? - Desire General

Had a play with a Desire today
noticed only email headers are kept on the phone.
it gets them when you click them
I assume a lot of people use HTC provided imap capable email client instead?

The normal email (non gmail) app is much better. You can specify the size of mail to download, how often to check for mails, can open links from emails (which you can't in gmail app). Touchdown app is also excellent and probably better for exchange support.

Multiple Exchange Account Using Default App?

Quick questions, I want 3 exchange account on my Desire. For uni, gmail and google apps. I don't want to pay and would prefer to use a comprehensive email client. What options do I have?
I don't know of any free way of running more than one Exchange account, sorry.
Install the standard Eclair Email app (see here).
I've not tried it myself, but the APK is hosted by rhedgehog, and he frequents these forums so I'm sure he'll chime in if it doesn't work!

Cool - does that app suffer from any of the shortcomings of HTC's apps? What are the drawbacks?
well, gmail is seperate to default mail app.
so i have gmail, and my uni email both as exchange.
you'll just have to tough it out and use pull mail for the third account
I suppose 2 mail apps may be pushing a bit too much data, could use gmail for gmail and mail app for the others.
Me too, I have one work Outlook account and one support Outlook account on the same Exchange server. $20 for the professional email app is a bit much. Takes me back to the Symbian days when $20 would be a bargain.

What do you use, Gmail or HTC Mail?

Well, what do you use?
I use HTC Mail simple because of the home screen widget(hey, its a reason at least) even for my Gmail account(Note, my only account). I have set it as an Exchange mail "As mail arrives(Push)". Hopefully it'll be light at my battery(Theoretically it should, since it won't be repeatedly checking for mails).
What about you?
Somehow I always get 2 notifications (one gmail and one from the htc widget) eventhough I only want the htc one
I use HTC Mail because I think it's much better... especially since I have my hotmail & yahoo mail accounts configured in HTC mail... Another thing I like with HTC mail is that I can go back and read mails offline when I'm not connected to wifi since I don't have an unlimited data plan atm.
Some other things that makes HTC mail better is pinch to zoom, choose between regular or threaded email and much better handling copy / paste / stuff, even though it's implemented in gmail now it's nowhere as good as in HTC mail where selecting text works like a dream.
I use HTC Mail. I like the fact that I can read emails offline. Gmail used to have issues with opening attachments when it was on Eclair but the latest OTA seems to have addressed this issue.
Gmail app for me lol couldn't get on with HTCs mail app
really depends if you prefer pushmail or imap with scheduled retrieve...
I use gmail app as i use gmail as email provider. (but google really does need to stop ****ing around with attachment access, it's kinda ridiculous...)
i use k-9 to have push mail for all accounts.

Then try to open an attachment twice its not possible via googlemail+exchange+htcmail... I hate that but its sadly true...
I use HTC Mail for my gmail account using exchange active sync and push, also pretty much just because of the widget. I have noticed that bug with attachments but it doesn't really affect me much.

k-9 - i think the best , because it is a advancement of g-mail

Maybe yes, also ProfiMail seems to be very popular under the "Pro-Users". But i wonder if there will ever be a MailClient with proper GMail/Exchange support AND a usable UI that doesnt look like Windows CE...
Htc mail app. There is widget and push that is all in need.... Somehow attachments are fine for me now could this be latest update?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Yahoo mail for android, only for yahoo obviously but messages are pushed instantly & when i delete mail its actually deleted, i found with htc mail it would only delete it from my phone, when i signed in online mail was still there.
Sent from my HTC Desire runing Android 2.2 via the XDA App
I had problems with HTC mail, and it used to send 2 mails everytime I send one.
So switched to Gmail app and Yahoo mail for Android app as they both push the mails. Also any deleted mails will be synchronised and removed from the actual accounts.

HTC Desire still on 2.1
I have disabled Gmail because HTC mail can integrate any mail accounts I use. These include, but aren't limited to Gmail, Exchange and my service provider's primary mail account.
I used to have the Gmail App active as well, but I got really annoyed by the notifications that would pop up two times for my Gmail account. Last but not least I simply like HTC's interface choices, they fit much better into the big picture.

Doesn't both got push mail? The HTC Mail does and when I used Gmail it behaved as if it had push mail(Which I believe it does).
Ive been using Both together. Gmail for my personal account and HTC Mail to manage my Exchange Server account for work. Both push and I only get individual notifications, each with their own icon. It works perfectly so I am a bit confused as to what may be causing others issues.
Gmail app for Gmail and HTC Mail for the MS Exchange server. I like the labels support in the Google app but the HTC app is much prettier and more fun to use.
The Gmail interface is very efficient for dealing with lots of email. Faster than the webpage on a desktop, dare I say

Hmm thats strange. Have been searching for a solution for this for ever. But the second time i try to open attachements the App always says it's corrupt... and many other Users are reporting this... would you mind posting your settings...?

[Q] Hosted images in emails - how to block them? [android]

I've tried searching the forums for this but with no luck. I'm new to Android and one thing is irritating me about the email application on my new Desire HD.
When I view an email the phone automatically downloads any images that are required, even if they're hosted and not embedded. This means that if I accidentally open a spam email, the phone displays it in full HTML format with the images included. I want to block those images completely (for all emails).
Is that possible with the built-in mail application? I can't find a setting that controls this, and yet it seems like such a fundamental principle on a mobile phone that the user should have control over which images are downloaded. Windows Mobile - for all its faults - did this perfectly.
I don't want to download another mail client yet - the built-in one works fine for me apart from this (and the fact that deleting emails on the phone doesn't delete them on the server - but that's for another thread).
Can I get a bump here? Please?
I'm not sure which email prog you are using.
But if you use Gmail rather than DHD phones email app, you can have all your email accounts go through the one Gmail account, which filters spam mail, and has settings for what type and size of mail you receive.
Plus all your phones emails are backed up on your google/android account.
I'm with SiliconS on this...
All mail clients (malex1 gmail is not a mail client it is a mail service)... all mail clients except androids give you the option of whether or not to download images embedded in the email.
This has a number of benefits, not least of which it prevents spammers from identifying which email addresses they spam to are actually active.
I do not want to use gmail, that is not a viable option.. I just want a good email client.
Does anyone know of one?
Thanks
ok I know when to shut up

All downloaded emails appear as unread ...???

Just moved from WM (Diamond) to Droid and loving the desire so far, however there's 1 problem that drives me nuts.
I've setup my Desire to receive mail from yahoo, as well as a few other POP3 and IMAP email accounts I have, and while the phone does download emails according to schedule, all downloaded email are marked as UNREAD whether they are actually read or not.
This happens using the MAIL application that comes with the phone (I'd think it's a goggle app, not a HTC app), but also the K-9 Mail app.
This problem also happens on 2 different ROMs ... so it's not a ROM problem.
It's extremely annoying because I keep getting notifications of 'new' emails that I've already read!
This does not happen for gmail if I use the gmail app ... but gmail is not my primary email account.
I never had this problem in my WM days neither.
that is, because the mail app actully downloads new emails (via pop3) and doesnt know, if you already read the mails elsewhere.
Go to properties and change the protocol to IMAP. (and the according adresses and ports).

Email app only downloading old messages?

I have set up my email account with the Samsung built-in email app, but it seems to only download old messages. Right now I'm seeing emails from 2006. Is there any way to make it download the newest messages on the server, instead of the oldest ones? As it is now, it is totally useless.
On a related issue, if I want to use the built-in email app with my Gmail account (I would rather use a single email program for both Gmail and my work email without having to switch between apps), is there any way to get the "recent:" functionality working? When I try to set my username with recent: before my email address, as Gmail has you do to only get the last month of email, the Samsung mail app says my login is wrong.
Both of these worked fine with the HTC mail app on my old Hero, so I'm kind of surprised if Samsung's mail app can't do it.
Eric
What type of email do ypu have?
I've only tried it connecting to Gmail, with the Gmail POP3/SMTP servers. I know that Google encourages us to use the Gmail app for that, but it seems so strange that Samsung can't get their mail app to work properly with Gmail.
I've been using K-9 mail for the last few weeks, but it seems to have its own problems, but unlike the Samsung app it actually works reasonably well enough. Unfortunately I have yet to find a mail client that works as well as HTC's, though. Maybe I just need to learn how to program this thing and fix K-9 myself.
