Is it possible to still turn off Sense UI on newer Desires.
Here its not easily done on later firmwares?
Hello,
Not sure about other Desires, but for my unbranded desire I bought a few months ago, I could not turn off Sense like the video did. I suppose the one in the video is a prototype
The best answer I can give is a simple Yes.
Sense is just a series of widgets with many different options in style. You can make them all disappear, but also create profiles of widgets and switch between them.
Good widgets are hard to find, and HTC s design is better than anything I can find in the Android market.
Peace.

not sure on the answer but you can install adw launcher or launcher pro and you wont be seeing sense anymore
not seeing doesn't mean it does not run, what i did when i was using 2.1, installed another launcher (eg, launcher pro) gone and disabled sense like in the video.
This will stop it for now but when u reboot it will still start, what u can do here is mount via adb and rm the apk of sense
what video? I just go in applications and kill the htc sense app.
You can use a launcher such as ADWLauncher or launcherpro. These will give you a different feel to the phone, but sense will still be running in the background.
If you aren't rooted you can't use adb to remove the sense stuff, and anyway you may well remove something critical to the stability.
I'd advise you to just simply use a launcher and if you want sense stopped, force stop it.

Is this possible and has anyone done it?
I don't like the sense UI and prefer the standard UI.
You need to search the forums on how to diasble Sense UI then

Does that mean someone has installed the HTC Magic rom on a Hero? Cause from what I read people have only been doing the default Home application trick.
I want all of the Sense UI stuff wiping. And doing a search I can't find any answers.
you can't turn it off all together
you can turn of the sense ui (touchflo) and use default google launcher (just like magic)
just look aon the forums for the guide
You could theoretically delete the Rosie APK and remove it completely, together with the various HTC widgets.
It'd gain you a lot of space too!

I share the same opinion as the starter of this thread, and then some.
The Sense UI is Ok, but I too like the standard google home thingy.
Having owned a Magic as well, my current experience is that the HTC modified versions of calendar/mail/etc are a bit slower than their stock counterparts, and I find them less stable aswell (eg: more force closing)
In short, I would be very interested in a ROM that is like the Magic's stock ROM
I'm quite new to Samsung's Android processes. I'm pretty well versed in HTC Devices but Samsung phones are just entirely different. I have a HTC Desire as well as this Galaxy S (Touchwiz seriously sucks )
I want to root the phone and install a Stablish FroYo ROM on the phone. Is that possible?
No its not, caus there is now stable froyo rom atm.
For your root problem check this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=742403
You can do it manualy too, like here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754
FroYo will be realesed in early September. Those Froyo Firmwares you can find here are alpha versions, which were leaked. Furthermore jit is broken in JP2 and JP3 (Froyo releases)
I prefer JM2, it feels most responsive, this is 2.1 leaked release.
about touchwiz, just install LauncherPro oder ADW Launcher from market and set it as default

Naturally
Installed LauncherPro after 5 minutes of TouchWiz. Still laggy but meh. Gonna get going with rooting it now and I may try my hand at a Sense UI port once I get a foothold in Galaxy S Development. Sense UI on the Galaxy S would be lovely.
Yeah what he said, don't bother with Froyo atm it's to buggy, i would say go for JM5 + SamSet 1.9c custom ROM + One click Lagfix BETA 2-1
that all = a perfectly smooth SGS, with no issues
and yeah would love to see Sense UI on SGS, it certainly has the capability to use it.
question to you who have used both touchwiz and sense. Why does tw such so much? I think its quite neat but i have nothing to compare with.
From what ive read the many sense-widgets are very hard on cpu/mem

For one it's laggy. Second of all it looks like a cheap tacky iPhone clone. Not as classy. Sense UI looks much smoother and much more professional.
The Galaxy itself comes with only 4(?!) stock Android widgets and a couple of crappy Samsung Widgets. Sense phones come with a massive amount of widgets.
Here are a list of stock widgets on the Desire
Analog Clock (HTC And Android versions)
Bookmarks
Calculator
Calendar x2
Clock (7 of them including the one with the kick ass weather animations)
Facebook for android
FM Radio
Footprints
Friend Stream
Google Search
Latitude
Mail (Scrollable mail widget supporting exchange and POP/IMAP)
Market widget
Messages widget
Music Widgets
News widget
News and Weather widget
Photo frame (multiple sizes)
Stocks
Settings widgets for almost every setting
Sync widget
Twitter for Sense widget
Weather widget
Youtube Widget
The whole interface seems more streamlined within eachother as well. Samsung would do well to release Stock Android phones tbh.
Is there any of those that is not accessible on the market or have replacements thats better there? Can you sideload them to the sgs?

U can get launcher pro and built-in to plus version (not free) u'll find a calendar, bookmark, contact widget that mimick the sense widgets very well.
Does any one know if samsung's widgets are launcher dependant ? if all they rely on is the framework, then changing the intents of the widgets in the manifest should make it available in other launchers.

Not that I know of. The only one that mimicks a sense widget somewhat well is fancy weather widget which even at that doesn't have full screen weather animations.
They're all completely dependent on the Sense UI framework as does any HTC app. No developer has managed to get them working on anything but a Sense based ROM.
Hi there all,
Is it possible to remove the HTC sense phone, txt and contacts apps.
I prefer the Android version alot to the HTC ones.
If you are running a sense rom it will cause you problems if you try to.

Dam... so is it possible to install just the HTC camera on say a Cyanogen 6 ROM?
If one was to remove the default HTC phone, txt and contacts and isntall Android and set as default I cant see a problem.
Can anyone point me in the direction of ripping apk's from a image. I've got various Sense and non Sense ROMS and I'd like to look into having together my perfect ROM.
I want the Friend Stream app from HTC Sense on my CM6 RC1, and the weather app. Wouldnt mind the nice transparent bottom menu I've seen in some Foroy sense ROMS.
is there any way to get sense apps like the Music, camera, and phone onto vanlla phones or on cyanogen
I was hoping there was a way to get the dialer from a sense rom onto any stock rom. I actually may try that out later this week and see if it works (doubtful).
It requires sense framework for the Widgets as I've asked this before, as far as camera mods and what not I've seen that on vanilla roms but I'm sure there are geniuses that dwell on XDA that could figure it out.

Eventually, there will be hacked up ROMs with bits and pieces from every corner of the earth - I wanted the same thing on my Nexus (stock with the HTC cam) and there were a few options (though all had bugs here and there). Given the G2 was *just* permrooted, it might be a few weeks/months before you see some really creative ROMs.
Other stuff, like the lockscreen, can be changed with apps like widgetlocker and such.
You should definitely try out the Desire Z rom, though. It's all kinds of awesome, with new features that weren't there in previous versions of Sense. Hell, the camera app alone is worth it - makes the stock Android camera app look like a joke.
Sense apps have never and will never work on a non-sense based rom as it has far too much reliance on lots of frameworks (its a messy area).
The closest you will get is a rom like SuperVillain (out later today) that is a Sense based rom but with Rosie (Launcher) and widgets removed so looks like vanilla but still has all the sense apps working.
Keep an eye on villainrom.co.uk or the dev section here on xda for the rom release of SuperVillainZ

Enomther's TheOfficial has the option of both the HTC Camera and the HTC Music app - plus you can install the HTC IME (onscreen keyboard) easily as an APK (there's even a kitchen that lets you customize the colors and such).
Your sig claims you've owned 4 android phones. So you're obviously not a super noob. So my question to you is -
Did searching just not occur to you, or did you honestly believe you were not the 7,548th person to ask this question?
I am not asking about sense widgets because im aware that i need to have the sense framework running but im just wondering about the 2 apps Camera and Music. i know that enmothers rom gives you the option to install the 2 if you want and am just wondering if its possible to do the same for cyanogen.
also i have used the Sense Roms for the G2 but i was never really a fan of non Vanilla android.

A couple of apps may have been REBUILT to work without sense, but its not an easy job and certainly isn't something a lot of people have done.
the HTC IME keyboard was pretty much an entire rewrite of the code based on what the htc one looked like, its not the apk from sense just moved over.
I can't comment on the camera or music, but I imagine these are the same.

There has been a sense app ported to stock. Enom ported the HTC camera to his stock ROM for the Nexus... I remember running it.. That was a great ROM
Sorry, I see this has already been covered... But I know the app wasn't rewritten, it was a straight port, with the stock framework rewritten, so it was a straight app port

I really like the browser from sense, I use lpp for widgets so I'm good there. I asked about getting some sort of plug in for google translate onto vanilla browser and got nothing but flame. Hopefully gingie brings this to us... I mean is there any other plug ins other then flash? Honest question

Hi I have recently been trying to implement a rotating DHD Sense Launcher (From the desire z) into ReflexTsense by using a launcher posted in the DHD section, then from Cool Z based on the same framework and the launcher disappears from the list of launchers when i press Home! :S
I did this using ADB using the 'push' command as i knew that trying to install it as if it were an app would not work...so i have re-pushed the Launcher that came with the ROM, which works fine for now but how do i go about rotation?
P.s: i have tried RCmixHD 3.5 and i can't make phone calls with that ROM so don't even bother
Seems like your implementing and not porting. Don't to it unless your going to actually develop. You may as well just wait for official release.

Try using RCMixHD. One of the rotating ones will give you landscape Sense and they are very reliable. If you cant make calls you should probably change your radio version to something more stable.
check cool sense z rom. omes with this feauure
