Dual sim working on desire - Desire General

Bought a dual sim adaptor from ebay for 6 quid.20th edition magic sim where you don't cut the sim.working fine...able to access stk menu, but only works if you change network settings to gsm only.will not work on edge or other speeds.but at least it works! Only thing that's a pain is every time I switch sims I have tof keep putting password in for google mail.if you download the app multi sim from market you can set up a little icon for each specific sim number so you know whatnumber is being used.
Might see if I can find adaptor that uses other speeds but not paying silly money.

Hello,
I am very interested in a dual sim adaptor. Can you please post a link to the vendor
P.S Has anybody tried this :
Dual sim card 26th-B 3G dual sim, they claim that it works with 3G also

Great stuff keep us informed, so you don't have to reboot the phone to switch and it fits under the battery?

it is working great with umts. no rebooting. perfect stuff

I really don't know if i feel like cutting!!!! my sim card to pieces
Besides - how will wavesecure act to this changing sim all the time ?
Smirge

Wave secure works fine.you need to add the 2nd number to your safe numbers.I have it installed on my phone.you don't need to reset phone to switch numbers.just click on the sim number you want to be live.
As I stated g works at moment.need to find one that works with hpsda etc.will post link later to one I purchased.
Its the one where you don't need to cut sim so all good.

have just ordered the hpsda compatible sim adaptor today. unfortunately will have to cut sims but not such bad thing- will let you know how i get on

just received my new dual sim adaptor

and it rewuires you to cut the sims, very easy as you get a template.
It works- both sims work with Hpsda,3g etc- full internet and the usual fast speeds -unlike the previous adaptor i tried which would ionly allow gprs.
You can switch via the sim tool -which doesnt restart the phone-takes about 12 seconds to switch numbers- works great with wave-secure

Can anyone who has a dual sim working with 3G please confirm, and link to a source. I've tried these before and never had a satisfactory experience. I'd try them again, but want to be sure that they are fully working (for phone and data) before spending even more money on an imperfect solution.
I don't mind cutting SIM's as I have a press tool that does it cleanly - as long as that wont damage current sims. Will my old tool work with current sims? I'm assuming that the footprint and location of the chip hasn't changed in current generation sims?
Also, is it possible to log into one gmail account with one sim, and another with the other sim?

i have just confirmed -see above!
with link also...as advised earlier hpsda works,3g works, everything full internet works.
You have to enter password again for Google market- when you switch. but no other problems.
using both vodafone monthly contracts in the uk.
Also works on my n900 also bonus

-deleted- (didn't see the new page)

I'm certain the answer is no, but I take it this doesn't allow you to recieve calls on both numbers at all times? In other words, the only thing this avoids is having to turn off the phone to swap sims - there are no other advantages?
A long shot really - I get sick of carrying around two phones (One is corporate, the other personal)

yep one phone number at a time..still better than carrying 2 phones though.
No problem with messages either- it seems to save messages from both sims.
not happy about the £36 for unit ,but glad it works

Any one get a dual sim working for desire on 3uk hsdpa speed

i was going to get new mifi unit so i could use my 3uk 5gb monthly mobile broadband allowance
but if my main mobile 3uk sim (500mb internet)and 3uk mobile broadband sim (5gb)works with a dual sim, then obviously save me a few bucks
can somebody verify duals sims with 3uk

First of all thank you for sharing with us your findings.
Now here is the scenario: I have a voice only (as in no data plan) SIM and a data only SIM (from a USB stick). I have tested the data SIM, it works just fine in my Desire with the correct APN settings, of course I can't make any calls with it.
Question: would it be possible to use a Dual-SIM adapter so that calls are made from one card and data (APN settings) are from the other SIM? I mean use them SIMULTANEOUSLY without switching from one SIM to the other.
P.S. It's more of an "academic" interest for me as I do have a data plan but since data only SIMs are now free on some networks (RDS in Romania) it would be a nice alternative.

nope it would still need to be switched in order to use other sim data. you can only use 1 sim at a time

Three network SIMs not working but O2 & Vodaphone SIMS ok-HELP! I'm really confused
Cannot find a solution either searching the forums or via Google so perhaps someone can help by answering this post:
Got an XDA Orbit that works fine when I insert either an O2 sim or a vodaphone sim (so the phone appears not to be locked) but not when I use a 3 (three) sim. When I insert a 3 (three) sim I get the message "Invalid or missing SIM card". I have 2x three sims and both do the same thing. However both the 3 (three) sims work fine in my XDA exec and Sony Ericson K610i so there appears to be no fault with the sim. So if the SIM appears to work and the phone appears to be unlocked what else is there?
I have considered upgrading the ROM but there seem to be a lot of people either turning this phone into a brick or breaking wifi (needed) while updating the ROM on the Orbit. If someone can point me to a rom that works without doing either that might be a solution.
Details of ROM XDA Orbit is running:
ROM version: 1.25.206.2 WWE
ROM date: 10/4/06
Radio version: 02.67.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.28
ExtROM version: 1.25.206.101
Any thoughts or idea's welcome
PS. I have also tried inserting a little paper between the battery & the SIM as suggested in some of the forum posts which didn't work.
3 is a 3g network only, the Artemis is not a 3g phone.
Older 3 USIMS used to work, but when 3 noticed you were constantly roaming onto O2 (who provide 3 with their backup network, at a cost to 3) they blocked those SIMS. Newer ones simply don't work at all in 2.5g phones.
Upgrading the ROM would make no difference, you would need to change the handset to a different model to use the 3 network, but then frankly I never understand why anyone would want to.
i thought the same thing as the post above...but what made me wonder is why the 3 sim cards are working inthe xda 2s which is not a 3g phone.
maybe its not the 3 sim cards that are at fault here after....as hard as that is to belive
hey guys,
three sim cards will not function at all unless the phone is 3g enabled.
Remi
Even if the phone was 3g, 3 used to block IMEIs of phones not sold by them. Nice. Don't know if they still do that though.
update
arielc - my error, sim does not work in XDA2 (tested again), 3rd phone tested was a Sony K610i -> have updated initial post to remove error.
LargePig - The XDA Exec I have was bought from O2 and does work 100% (so far).
Gajet - I think you are right. Is there any way for the phone to fake to the sim that it is a 3G phone? I realise this is probably grasping at straws but thought I should ask just in case.
Assuming it is impossible to get the 3 SIMs to work any idea on what these are worth? I'm depressed askign this as it is a realy nice phone & I would prefer to keep it.

No the lack of function occurs when the SIM tries to register on the network I believe, so it instantly knows it can't register on the UMTS (3g) network, and because it hasn't tried it is blocked from registering on the GSM (2.5g) network.
Any 3g enabled phone should work, and there are 3g HTC pocket PC devices such as the Universal etc. but they all tend to be bulkier.
3 has to stop this behaviour because they have no GSM backup of their own and therefore they pay O2 to provide their backup, this means they make little (if any) money on those calls.
Personally I don't think 3 are as cheap compared to the other networks as they used to be, the other networks have had to try and attract customers back. You could get a SIM from the other networks for a fiver at the most. My personal recomendation at the moment is a T-Mobile Flext and Web & Walk Tariff.
As for the value of the 3 USIMS, Have a look on Ebay at what they are going for, they do have a sale value.

Such a thing as a "virtual SIM card"?

I'm going to be travelling in Europe and I wondered if anyone had ever heard of an app or hack or anything that would act like a "virtual sim card."
Basically, it would be cool if my phone could think it had one SIM in there, and then at the touch of a button, if it could think it had another. I'm planning on taking my T-Mobile US SIM to Europe to use WiFi calling from there to be able to talk/send and receive SMS for free from people in the US on my US number. When I'm not in a WiFi area, I'd like to be able to switch to a prepaid SIM that I'll purchase in Europe for data access when I'm out and about (and maybe some text/call abilities with a local number would be nice so I could communicate with friends in Europe).
If there's no way to do this with Android I'll probably just purchase a second smartphone and carry one with my T-Mobile SIM and the other with a European prepaid SIM (and that way I could make a WiFi hotspot so I'm always on WiFi calling).
Any suggestions? Has anyone ever heard of something like this? LIke some app that can "remember" a SIM that is inserted into the phone and then make the phone think that SIM is there when it's actually not? Something to make SIM switching a lot easier, or even something that could switch to the Euro SIM once every 10 minutes or so even when I'm on WiFi to check for new messages on the European number, then go back to the T-Mobile number and turn off all mobile radios so it can connect to WiFi calling.
I would also like this. I hate carrying two phones with me. My work phone has only voice. I would like to have my nexus 4 use my work Sim for voice and personal sim for data at same time.
If not then to be able to switch between them so one is active at a time would be cool.. I bet with a rooted and custom build of android this would be possible. But it is beyond my capabilities.

closest to that is a multiple sim, sim card i have no clue how to get or use them though and you might as well just unlock your phone anyway unless you need to do this without changing the physical sim but you may have to anyway with a multiple sim (probably turn it over or something)

Sim Card Data Issues -- Data is only supported on SIM CARD #1

Well, this may be common Knowledge to you Dual Sim card veterans. But I have been killing myself and Tech support for the last week trying to get 4G working on both Sims #1 and #2. I guess we would literally need the guts of 2 modern 4G LTE radios in there with all the bands for each Sim slot.
It's relieving and at the same point disappointing that I can't compare data services with the sims inside the phone at the same time. It makes sense now. I was thinking how can this thing have decent battery life if it's running 2 full sims.
Hopefully this will save some folks some hair pulling data only supported on SIM# 1 and voice only on SIM #2.
So far have been testing the following carriers since I have just recently unshackled myself from sprint!
- T.mobile
- Rok Mobile (33.99 unlimited everything if you pre-pay $399 for the yr. But will they be around for a yr???)
- Ting - pay as little or as much as you need...
- Harbor Wireless -- business plans but they support unlimited music streaming via T-mobile.:good:
i thought zenfone2 would be nice for t-mobile + traveling abroad. so the tmobile sim would have to be in sim slot 1 to get the free data (capped at very slow rates, but free and unlimited). then use the local sim in slot 2 for voice (since tmobile doesn't let you call for free with their global roaming). but sim 2 is GSM only right? no 3G/4G, so i wonder how reception will be abroad being 2g only vs 2g+3g.
You mean that if i have on sim1 data and voice and on sim2 only voice there cant work silmultaneously?
yes, you can have data and voice on sim1 and additional voice on sim2. It would be pointless to pay for 2 data sims, but I understand why you would want it. But in this case, its data on sim1.

Hey All,
I got the Zenfone2 yesterday.
I noticed that the mobile data/Cellular data works only on SIM1. I searched and found no option to enable data on SIM2.
Even if we have data services enabled on SIM2 it if no use as they do not work in SIM2.
Will there be any workaround / Fix for this ?
Is it a zenfone 2 design constraint ?
Regards,
Niri
Hi all,
I have notice that only SIM1 is 2G / 3G / 4G, and SIM2 is 2G .
But I don't unterstand why I cannot receive MMS on SIM2 .
This is very boring, and I'm not sure I'll keep this ZenFone2

2G for the Zf2 would be enough for MMS (slowly, with 300k images), but SIM2 can't support a data network. I'm pretty sure it was needed for the same reason Windows Boxes can't handle two different internet connections (one connection gets used, the other ignored).

This is the most disappointing thing I found after getting my phone. I wanted to use SIM 2 as a backup data service when SIM 1 wasn't working. :|
I hope this is a software limitation and either Asus can push an update or we can do something with custom ROMs.
I dont really see the point on having 2 sims for data. Honestly.
I have reported this issue to Asus .
I called Asus support and the support guy told me I need to do a system update and sent me this link in email. This update is valid only for WW SKU, so if you are using something else call your local support.
I'm trying to update, but I'm not sure how to
I think you can told this a dog too ? like most other support, they don't know what user want. This is the normal update site and has nothing to do with data for 2. Sim port.

Well the changelog for the update as seen on ASUS website does have a mention for this.
I can't see anything in changelog, that the have implemented data to Sim 2. Or I have tomatoes on my eyes ?

When I boght my Zenfone 2 it was stated on the site I bought from that sim2 was voice only... I believe this is how it is supposed to be.
Otherwise phone would be bulkier and a cost a heap more...

the main problem is that you can't receive (or send) MMS with SIM2.... only call and sms
All other dual sim allows MMS with both SIM cards
Yes, while its not a major issue for me personally, I'm surprised that my much cheaper old Acer could handle this OK. The second SIM only ran 2G, but that was enough...I'm surprised there's NO data on the second SIM for the Asus.

All other dual SIMS? Not my previous Samsung Duos, nor, as far as I am aware, any of the DUOS range.
It would be nice though.
from my knowledge, dual sim dual active does not have data on 2nd sim slot
and dual sim dual standby, most of this supports data on both sim slots

FD / Dual sim owners - what's it like?

Hey guys, I see some of you have the FD variant - That's dual-sim isn't it?
I'm thinking of getting one, but what is it like to use dual sim as opposed to lugging two phones? Today I'm carrying a Note4 and Note3 with me... Worth springing the extra $$ or stick with a regular F + my old Note 4?
Happy to hear about your experience!
Still waiting for my FD ...
But the experience with my N920CD do not give me another choice than a DUOS system.
You really don't need to carry a second phone with you, all you need is in one system.
With the new Note 7 and the private folder, you can even have the same App installed twice, so you have two Facebook, WhatsApp and whatever with different accounts in one device ...
So you really can split business and private without carrying two devices.
I've had mine a few days and I'm very happy with it. I'm expecting to get a business phone in the near future and I'm hoping that instead I can just use this phone. I don't want to carry 2 phones. I also travel a fair bit and buy local SIMs when I arrive, so this will allow me to continue to receive texts from my regular phone when I'm traveling.
I don't think I'll ever get a single SIM phone again unless someone, somewhere comes up with a truly global phone plan.
I agree, i have the n920cd duos note 5 and its the only way to go. Work sim in one and personal in the other, I just brought the note 7 duos because i could not go back to having two devices. You can set separate notification and ringtones per sim and in use its dead easy (i.e in text message just select which sim to send from) although you can do this and have defaults for calls data etc.
Still 2G only for second SIM?
Does *#2263# (band selection) work in your dialer?
Or *#197328630#? (basic service mode)

Yes.
I.love the idea of the DUOS but it's missing a band for ATT and doesn't have wifi calling or HD Voice, so i have read.

Neither code works.
For what it's worth, both SIMs are capable of using 3G/LTE, but only one at a time can use it, the other is stuck on 2G.

Unlocked N9750 Dual Sim Mobile Network Connection issues with TMobile SIM installed

Hello,
I just purchased an unlocked Note10+ N9750 Dual Sim in Taiwan, and I am currently located in Taiwan. The phone is on the latest SOFTWARE update from September 1st. ...ASI3.
When I put 2 Taiwanese SIM cards in the phone, the mobile internet works flawlessly and is extremely fast (About 200/50 on each network) when selecting SIM1 or SIM2 for mobile internet, with WiFi disabled. I can switch the cards and it works as expected.
The icons usually show 4G+, although it can sometimes slip into 4G for 10-20 seconds or so.
However, when putting my Tmobile SIM card into SIM1 or SIM2 along with a Taiwanese SIM card, and selecting the Taiwanese SIM card for mobile DATA (The goal here is to use the Taiwanese SIM card for data when in Taiwan), the mobile data is extremely slow (Around 2/0.5).
Furthermore, most of the time, when trying to access the internet, it appears that the phone is trying to connect for the first 5-10 seconds before actually bringing back internet data.
This can be with an app, like Whatsapp, or a simple Google search, or a speed test.
The icons will show 4G+ or 4G, not sure there is a pattern here.
I have tried everything I could think of with roaming ON/OFF, moving the SIM cards around, etc.
APN for Tmobile is correct and setup for IPV4/6 for normal, and IPV4 for roaming.
Again, if I simply replace the Tmobile SIM card with another Taiwanese provider (2 Taiwanese SIM cards installed), the internet is super fast and instantaneous on either SIM card.
The Tmobile SIM is working as expected in a Note9 TMobile Single SIM.
Not sure if anybody has some insight on what may be going on here...
Coming from a Note9 and the Tmobile SIM is less than 1 year old if I recall.
Thank you.
I forgot to mention that if I go into the SIM DEVICE MANAGER with both a Taiwanese SIM card and the TMOBILE SIM card installed and disable the TMOBILE SIM, the internet works fast as expected on the Taiwanese SIM.
As soon as I re-enable the TMOBILE SIM card, the internet is slow again and takes 5-10 seconds before bringing data back from a Google search, etc...
That's because if you are overseas with T-Mobile it caps data speeds I believe at 256kpbs.
I'm guessing the order of the Sim somehow maybe coming into play . Also generally second sim position will give you Lower speeds
Hello Joogle,
I should have mentioned that I have the 15GB pass from Tmobile, so 4G speeds while roaming up to 15GB. The speed when on the Tmobile card is very fast, 50/10 or so.
This is not the issue I believe.
Does 2nd position really give slower speeds? I did not know that.
Interestingly, I am in China at the moment and put a Hong Kong SIM card in slot #2 with my TMOBILE SIM in slot#1. Selected sim#2 for data, and everything works great and is always fast.
Not sure what to make out of that.
Preferred Network is set to: LET/TD-SCDMA/UMTS.
A bit confused by all the options of 4G SWITCHER.
Well, I found out that if I put my TMOBILE SIM in 3G/2G mode only, and leave the Taiwan SIM card at 4G/3G/2G, everything works great and fast with no delay...
This is fine since 3G is good enough for phone calls and text messages.
