Swapping ROMs between Acers - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi there.
I own an Acer BeTouch E400, with Android, wich is fine. But Im starting to miss a little the expanded multimedia capabilities (TCPMP mostly) of my Windows mobile devices.
Looking around I've noticed, that the Acer NeoTouch P400 is THE SAME phone, same exact hardware, only with Windows Mobile 6.5, and I was thinking, does anyone has it? Would it be possible to dump the ROM and install it into mine?
Of course, could be also done the other way around, dump my Android ROM and leave it for those who want it to swap for their WinMO.
Anyone?
Thanks in advance.

Replace windows mobile on Vogue

I'm not sure how much discussion has gone on about this subject but I had an odd question.
With all of this development going on with Linux/Android for the vogue, I was wondering if it will be possible in the future to create an actual ROM for our vogues that will replace Windows Mobile as the OS. NFSFan's great roms attempt (very successfully) to fix the problems with WinMo, and the Android port is a separate program that runs off the storage card. I'm curious if one day it'll be possible to completely remove windows mobile in favor of say android or whatever else gets developed for the vogue, and if so will it be possible to flash back to windows mobile afterward?
Just some thoughts and questions.
Android Was Sucessfully Ported To The Vouge
I Have Good News And Bad News For You
The Good News:
Google Android Lunix Was successfully ported to the HTC Vogue By An Australian Computer Scientist. More info can be found here.
The Bad News:
Windows Mobile 6.5 and WM 7 Seem to ve so verry pomrising for PPC users that many are not going to want to switch to a Linux based OS at this time. in fact NFSFAN made the latest leaked version of windows mobile 6.5 availble to the HTC Vouge Here. Anoother Reason A Full-On Linux Rom May Not Cme Out Is That may disros of Linux including mobile distros (this includes android) are produced for free under the terms of the GNU general Public License. That says that usres are "Entitled and encouraged to copy modify and redistribute" the content. Witch Means Microsoft Wloud Not make their Money.
I admit it is a good idea for Linux roms as an alternative for those who dont't like their winMo devices. But then again android and symbian Linux only makes up less than 5% of the smart-phone market at the present time

I disagree completely - Android will be a major player and a native ROM would be awesome. Android is so much more than Symbian that its disgraceful putting them together in the same sentence. It hasn't been around very long yet but give it another year or two and I predict it will not be very far behind WinMo in market share.
Also, when you say another reason a full rom won't come out is because MS won't make their money - the devices have very little to do with MS; HTC, Samsung, HP etc all make PDA's which happen to run WinMo but now that there is a cheaper (free) alternative to WinMo I'm sure they will all have at least one device running it.
I really hope someone (NFSFAN ) puts out a native Android ROM for the Vogue.
BTW the link you posted is for the storage card install and not a native android install.

Maybe this could be interesting too.

I am sorry guys.

How dare you! I'm a WinMo 6.5 fan myself - really liking this version. Just waiting for Android to support all of the Vogue hardware to try it out (ie GPS).

[Q] Windows Mobile 6 Apps on Windows Phone 7?

Hi !
As far as I know, beneath Windows Phone 7 there is basically still Windows CE running. So I'm wondering, is/may/will it be possible to run Windows Mobile 6 Apps on Windows Phone 7? Or do we already know that this can't happen because the underlying architecture is too different? Is anyone working on this?
For example, has anyone tried to copy a Windows Mobile 6 Filemanager to WP7 and run it somehow?
Best regards
intripoon
I'm going to go with no here.... not only from all of the months and months and months of people saying no but from the simple fact that WP7 is based on silverlight which wm 6.1 and 6.5 aren't.... at all....
This is why aps aren't backwards OR forwards compatible which people put up a pretty big stink about when WP7 was announced but seems to have died down now that we're able to see what can actually be done with silverlight
So... no.. not compatible
Also, just think about the work to emulate the wm6 crappiness. Thousand of empty bucles, glitchy graphic rendering, millions of delays, agggg..
No, seriously. Windows Mobile was powerful, but it's just too old. It should be possible to emulate the applications (in theory everything is possible), but I think is just too much effort, and there is no such big reason to put resources on something like that.

[Q] Windows Phone 7 - HTC Tilt 2

Hello,
Did someone ever try to upgrade the Tilt 2 for Windows Phone 7? I saw in the HTC site that is not possible, but I trust more on you guys....
tks!
Do you know how to use the lovely "Search" feature?
How many times has this been answered... NO WE CANT RUN WP7 on our phones
oohhh... tks for the tip about the search... I don't know how I survive without it...
No will never happen...its just not good enough hardware to run it...
WC
You can't just say wp7 isn't good enough for our devices? I've checked out the "surround"...it can have wp7 for all I care
you misunderstand, it's that this phone doesn't meet the hardware requirements for windows phone 7.
What about flashing the htc with android? Instead of loading the linux boot loader and android os on the sd card?
I'd love to make this phone more of an android phone then a dual booted device. Haven't seen it yet. Was hoping it would be possible.

We can't really do this yet because not all of the android builds are stable enough to be flashed to the tilt
Why would you want to DOWNGRADE to wp7. I have tried it and it doesn't matter about the hardware concerns because the software is so ridiculous that I would never use it again
WP7 is a huge step...in the wrong direction.
hypothetically even if you could get wm7 on it, its a slow processor, low ram and no captive touch screen. even if it did work, I would just stick to 6.5 because it would still be much more useable.
Video of Windows Phone 7 on Touch Pro 2; Could this be possible and usable?
I saw a video on youtube of a Touch Pro 2 with Windows Phone 7 (7.3 I believe, I don't know much about WP7 at all), and I have exchanged a message with the ROM creator, and he claims that a version will be ready in December.
Here is a quick link to it: (I can't post a link yet, sorry about the spacing between http)

I wonder if apps can be installed, and wheter or not they're actually usable.
Please look into someone, if you can! =)
Thanks a lot.

[Q] Do HTC Windows Mobile 6.5 emulator images exist?

I've Given up searching, i've been at it for about a week. So now i'm gonna ask. Does anyone know where i can find a HTC Windows mobile 6.5 emulator image that contains Sense 2.5? Coz i can't find one and it would make developing my current project so much easier.
Thoughts, links, etc all very appreciated
I would like to get this kind of image too to experiment a bit and continue developing my idea of WM emulation on Android, no matter how stupid that might sound
Wm emulator for Android'd also like to me
If the project goes ahead I can do tester
