i need some help i did the update it downloaded then i went back settings to system software update and it started downloading again went through reboot cut off and now wont come back on whats going on any help please somebody thanks in advance.
First question - are you rooted?
If you are try booting into recovery. If you can get there try a nandroid restore.
If you are not rooted try taking out the battery and letting it sit for about a minute or so. Turn it back on see if it comes up.

no im not rooted and the phone is off completely battery wont even turn it back on i think the update bricked my phone
if you updated twice you probably bricked it
great just great
Wasn't there problems with the new evo ota update? I havn't really read into it on the forums here, but people were reporting that it bricked their phones, especially if they were rooted. They said htc/sprint did it on purpose to "disuade" people from rooting thier phones.
I just wait for xda updates hah.
But if you havnt messed with your phone except for that update, you should be able to take it into the store and get it replaced.
Well, I just shut off my scheduled check for updates. I know I shouldn't receive any with my custom rom, but it's a scary idea. I haven't heard of this before, but it wouldn't surprise me.
mine did the same thing if you find anything out can you let me know?

Just curious how many of you are still waiting for the OTA vs upgrading vs kies?
I dont know why, I just have a preference to wait for the OTA to come.
Why? LoL!
10char!
I think only a few are left now.. I think weve covered them
ツ
Haha, I am weird just like you, I am waiting for the OTA as well.. My wife just got hers tonight... Boo
I got sick of waiting, updated via kies. Ugh, what a bloated mess.

Oh yeah... When I first got this phone, I was looking through it... I was absolutely amazed at how much bloat there was... I even think I have convinced my wife to let me root her phone just so she can get rid of all that bloat
Update with Kies mini
Hi can you please provide a step by step how you were able to get it through kies? Because I have kies mini up on my laptop and when connected, it says that I have to reconnect phone again. Can you please go through step by step how you were able to connect to receive the update? I hate waiting for the OTA. Thanks

I meant kies itself, but you're right.. the phone itself is bloated to hell.
And prince, go here and download the software. Install and make sure your phone is charged. Plug in with usb and you're good to go.

i got my phone last night and came straight home a updated through kies, it was easy. I was kinda on the fence about using kies because of all the vibrants it bricked back in the day. But it was easier than i thought, it took about 30 min due of my slow ass 3mb dsl.
Now can someone point me on how to root? Superoneclick isn't working anymore so can someone point me to the right thread? Thanks.
I finally broke down and tried to update through Kies... My computer shut down halfway through the process because of a stupid windows update.. Now it is stuck in 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.'
Kies won't recognize my phone, neither will Odin... Any ideas from you genius's out there?
EDIT: Nevermind, I only bought it 2 days ago, so I just exchanged the phone

No clue, I've gotten no OTA yet either
Nothing rom wise seems really exciting yet making me wants to root, I'd like to have that wifi calling though
I got my notice for an ota update yesterday, but I was rooted and it wouldn't install.
so I installed the update via kies and rerooted. worked great.

I just got three of these phones for my family, and they all updated different times within a couple of days within each other.
Do the OTAs come throughout the day or are they released at one given time to the random recipients, say 7AM for all those scheduled to get it?
Also do I have to check via settings if the firmware is available or does it just pop up on the phone?
Thanks
Still waiting. This stinks....
Anyone else care to chime in if they are still waiting??
OK hopefully you guys with tons of Epic 4g experience can help.
My wife dropped her rooted Epic 4G and now it will only boot into recovery.
I have tried to wipe the phone completely, re-flashed the rom, downloaded a new rom and tried to flash that and even considered trying, dare I say it, try to un-root the phone.
It doesnt seem to be able to get past the samsung splash screen. Do any or you masters of this phone have any suggestions on how to fix this. Could it be something with the hardware? And is it worth trying to get it fixed with the new phones about to come out.
Grateful to all that help

Flash it back to stock via odin.
Give me a sec to link you the how to video.
Make sure you have a nonstock usb.. otherwise you might end up soft bricking it.
If this video doesn't seem within your abilities then I can remotely do this if you'd like via teamviewer.

it boots into recovery, so it's fixable. do what uber said. odin it back to stock. if you know how to do so and need the tar files, just let us know.
Something like this happened recently when my lady dropped her phone. It would take like 20 minutes to boot up, and would act extremely slow to where it was useless. Cwm worked fine, and even an odin to stock wouldn't save it. We had to file a claim and replace it.

Yes I am an idiot (point and laugh now) I did something wrong, but have no idea exactly what yet. I searched and couldn't find anything for this version of the Note 2
About 3 weeks ago I updated to the newest version of Whomp, as soon as I did that I would get the hands free activation alert on my phone every time it booted up. It would always error out for code 1500, which is an internal error according to sprint. I was able to still use the phone so I didn't worry about it to much.
Last week the phone stopped switching towers during a phone call. It would drop the call and pick back up at the next tower milliseconds later with full bars. Called Sprint and was advised I needed to update my PRL and Profile, etc. Which couldn't be done because my phone was showing that it wasn't fully activated.
So my plan of attack was to unroot the phone, update everything, then get my root back. Simple enough.
Trying to go back to Stock really broke the phone!
I was trying to flash the stock ROM through Odin last night and it kept erroring out. Now when I try to turn it on or when I try to boot into recovery I get
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I can boot into download mode, so I think it's soft bricked. There has to be some way to fix this... I *might* have impulsed purchased a used Note 2 on ebay last night and the person *might* be overnighting it to me since I seemed pitiful enough. So I have time to get this one working correctly.
I'm just out of ideas... I know when I hard bricked the GS3 (That took a special level of stupid) I mailed it to some place in TX. Is that my only option here? Help please! Also I know just enough to be massively dangerous so use little words please... LOL

i may be wrong, but it seems that for whatever reason you are back to stock recovery, but the rest of it went bad... i would follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 there is a flashable TWRP ODIN tar, so boot into that, flash his MC2 ZIP and you should be good. similar thing happened to me, but i would just at endless bootloop, flashed that MC2 zip and im back to stock. Best of luck
Ha! That's the thread I was searching for. I found the one made for the GS3, but couldn't locate the Note 2 one. Thanks so much! I'll fiddle around with that tonight after work
It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked It worked! You have no idea how happy I am right now!
So now I'm unrooted and back in the stock ROM. I'm going to update my profile/prl/system/firmware then root later on tonight and probably flash the Jelly Bomb ROM
Thanks you for your help! Phone is no longer soft bricked and is activated onto the Sprint account again.

Done! Thanks for the tip
So I've had the S4 for 1 month now and at first I really didn't want to root or change the ROM. I actually like the TW interface and think it's great as it is. I've been rooting and changing ROMs going back to the MyTouch, but for some reason the S4 had me worried. I debated over and over about doing it, but after getting tired of the bloatware, constant ads being displayed and wanting to stop the horrible startup/shutdown music, the time came for me to root it.
So, after pouring over many hours of reading and deciding the method, I went with the Chainfire route. I chose this because from what I read (and this may have been where I misunderstood something??), if I ONLY root the phone, don't install a custom recovery then I will still be able to receive OTAs (when and IF they come from TMO). So after a couple of heart-stopping moments at 2am last night with about 4 ODIN fails, I finally got it rooted. Turns out, the USB cable I was using might have been the problem. I went out to the car and got the original cable that came with the phone and it worked on the first try with that. I thought for sure I had hard bricked the phone when it came up with an error message at startup regarding a firmware problem.
Anyhow, to make a long story short, after doing the rooting, I checked the update option in settings and it's telling me the phone has been modified and is unable to receive updates. I then ran the triangle away program to reset the binary counter back to Samsung Official/Official, which it's reporting now instead of Custom, but then checking the updater it still reports the same thing. This is what I didn't want to have happen!
Any suggestions on how to rectify this or have I crossed that line and might as well just go ahead and put a recovery on there and do a backup and leave it at that until the day comes I decide to slap a custom ROM on it?
Thanks for letting me rant, but I would like some assistance if possible.

If you've reset your binary counter and have modified nothing else, just unroot and you should be able to receive updates again.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I went ahead and got SuperSU Pro because that's the only way the feature in Triangle Away will work. It was after 2am when I was rooting and having problems so I wasn't too sharp.
Thanks!
So, every time I unlocked my phone it prompted me to install the update. I've been refusing it hoping that a root method would come about. Anyway in a sleepy stupor I accidentally hit the accept button, and the phone rebooted and started updating. I pulled the battery, but I don't know how to stop it. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks!
You pulled the battery while it was updating. If it even still works at all, that will be a miracle.
Try flashing the stock tar with Odin of the build u were on. Gonna lose data, but won't be upgraded hopefully.
Yeah, not one of my brighter moments. Phone still works. It updated to 5.0.1 bof1. I don't know how bad 5.0.1 bof1 is. It has another update it wants to do. Am I past the point of no return with bof1?
Yes you are. You should have used the safe update methods. This woild have eliminatedthe notifications
that's unfortunate :/
So if I am past the point of no return with bof1, should I just do all the rest of the updates, and at least have the advantages of the newest OTA? Does any of it break foxfi?
