I'm seeing all this work done to help lift the FPS cap, and I keep seeing mention of Epson and Novatec panels, and that some fixes work for one and other fixes work for another. How do you find out which kind your phone has?
Hi,

Yeahhh...a senior member being told to search by someone with only 6 posts. Wow.
Anyhow, I did search, and after a few search terms turned up nothing (and 20 seconds in between each one can be a pain) I went out of the forums and found this post on ppcgeeks.com:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=126275
You've got to ADB in, download the evoinfo.txt file with this command:
adb shell dmesg > evoinfo.txt
It'll list the screen type in there somewhere.
Hope this helps!

easier way, put the power manager widget on your screen and hit the brightness button. If it fades between levels, it's NOVATEK. If it just changes then it's EPSON.

So if it's an Epson it will just flash to the level? Mine kind of moves up/down like a dimmer switch on a light, so I assume I've got a Novatek.

My EVO is down, my replacement is in transit. I was wondering how to determine which screen panel the new one has when I get it. I read that the new panels look washed out and have a line of dead pixels. Which panel is the new and which is the old so I can research the differences between the two.
Better late than never I hope?
I just answered part of this question in another thread, here's what I said:

lol i just answered that too
I have an Epic 4G Touch, hence this question being in the Epic 4G Touch forum.
When I press the power button to turn on the display, it takes the phone anywhere between 1-3 seconds for the screen to turn on. The same thing happens when I'm on a phone call and the screen is off because of the proximity sensor. When I move the phone away from my head (say to use the dial pad), it again takes the screen 1-3 seconds before it turns on.
This seems like it's a bit longer than what it should be. What can I do to improve the situation?
I don't use any task killer apps (because they're bad for your OS), and I don't really have much running in the background. I use Minimalistic Text widgets and Llama, but I think that's all I've downloaded that runs in the background.
Thanks in advance for your replies

do a search on here its been discussed a few times already
it's because of the SD Card. It's a known issue. Some people don't mind, some people do. I'm the latter, it's annoyingly laggy.

Tried searching. I saw the topic for some other phones, but I figured this might be phone specific. If you're aware of a relevant thread maybe you could point me to it?

So you're saying without the SD card that doesn't happen? Got any sources or further reading? Sounds like a huge bummer if this is the case...

I use a pattern lock screen. Does GoLocker work with that?
Also, I read through those other threads you mentioned and people claimed that a class 10 micro SD card helped a lot with the lag, so I ordered a PNY class 10 off of Amazon.
I'll post results here when I get it.

Yeah the only reason it's right below this one is because I posted in it after it was already recommended to me in this thread.
But thanks anyway.

Dear XDA,
I've searched for this kinda app but couldn't find it so i decided to make a thread about it.
Anyway, i was wondering if it's possible to make the backlight of the buttons light up when there is some kind of notification as the led in the One X is kinda useless imo.(dirt gets into the tiny holes)
If it IS possible, does someone want to take the effort to try and make such an application/mod?
I'll be eager and happy to test it and my thanks will be beyond eternity
Thanks in advance,
Joran

Good idea, but I do think there could be any hardware limitations to make this work....
anyways, sounds great if it could be possible! :good:
I wrote an app called "Capacitive Button Brightness" which lets you control the brightness of the capacitive buttons backlight on the HTC One X: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033973. Someone pointed this thread out to me so I thought I'd chime in with an idea.
I have not tested this (in fact I don't have a device to test it on!) but you might be able to flash the backlight of the capacitive buttons by running the following command from a root terminal:
Code:
echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/blink
If that doesn't work, take a look at the list of files in /sys/class/leds/button-backlight and see if perhaps I got the name of the file wrong. There should be one in there with "blink" in its name.
If this does indeed flash the capacitive button backlight then you could write a simple script in "Tasker" to blink the capacitive button backlight every time that a message is received.
User Vcek reported doing something very similar with Tasker, and I'd recommend to contact him if you have further questions. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35266420#post35266420 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35276999#post35276999

You're right, my app won't address the feature you are looking for.
If you want a terminal, you can install "Android Terminal Emulator" from the Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jackpal.androidterm. You will need to be rooted though.
If you want to test out the "echo" command in the previous post, you will need to run "su" in the terminal before running the "echo" command.

Okay so i've installed tasker but i can't find out how to set the appropriate settings for this event.
Anyone did it already?
Did anyone find a solution?
not really, tried tasker but that didn't get me any luck.
so i hope anyone else does
Profile: blink (2)
Event: Notification [ Owner Application:WhatsApp Title:* ]
Enter: blink (3)
A1: Run Shell [ Command:echo 1 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/blink Timeout (Seconds):0 Use Rootn Store Result In: ]
A2: Wait [ MS:0 Seconds:4 Minutes:0 Hours:0 Days:0 ]
A3: Run Shell [ Command:echo 0 > /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/blink Timeout (Seconds):0 Use Rootn Store Result In: ]
Did anyone test the battery usage for this?
@staffordniko: You could use a trigger for "screen on" to stop the blinking.
I can confirm that it works. It should be cool to blink one button at a time!

A mod like this would be nice!
I'll follow this thread!
I'm trying to export a app with this settings with "Tasker app factory", but no luck so far. Maybe someone know how to do this right? Getting a "package installer stopped" error.

Apologies if this has already been asked.
When I open S Note my device goes to full brightness and ignores whatever brightness level set. Is this normal?
Edit. Just found a thread, apologies...

Slighly changes the screen to make it easier on the eyes when reading for long periods. I havent used it so cant say if it works or not.
Hi,
I'm using Bliss-v14.10-x86_64-OFFICIAL-opengapps-20230201 on a Dell optiplex 7050 micro with 16gb RAM and a Dell 2418HT touch screen monitor.
Video in apps is corrupted with green and black bars. The video plays smoothly but the entire screen is covered with thin alternating green/black bars.
I can play video fine with firefox/via etc.
I have tried many kernel parameters, such as
video=1920x1080, other valid resolutions
video=HDMI-1:d video=1920x1080, other valid resolutions
video=vga
vga=hex codes/decimal
vga=ask
nomodeset
xforcevesa
nomodeset xforcevesa
uc_mode=vesa (i believe that was it)
i've tried using the vga output instead of hdmi, with all the same parameters
If I choose a valid resolution below 1920x1080, the console seems to change resolution while booting but Bliss never changes, it's always 1920x1080.
The issue seems to persist in Bliss 15.8.4, and across gapps and foss versions. (edited: had Bliss 16 instead of 15)
Here is a screenshot that was taken in an app called Devinfo. Thank you to anyone who can help.
switch gralloc to something else like
Code:
GRALLOC=minigbm HWC=drm_minigbm
on kernel parameter.

Thank you very much. Everything is working great now.
When I tried both parameters the green and black bars would blink.
When I tried just GRALLOC=minigbm by itself the green/black bars disappeared and everything is fine.

I'm unable to replicate what happened. The green and black bars were no longer static but now flashed on and off like on a switch, which is the first and only time it ever happened.
I'm sure I did something wrong.
Everything works great, and I'm (now) using both of the parameters you provided. Thanks again.
And thanks to everyone who worked so hard to bring Android to PC.

Hi, please can You write out the steps, on how to fix that issue. Where do I input aforementioned commands and so on.
Please, for the love of god, someone guide me this ****fest. I NEED to fix the exact same issue. Ive been siting here for hours and hours trying to find out how the F* can I modify the system property You guys are talking about. My brain is melting.
Boot the device, when you see the boot selection screen hit 'e' to edit the boot parameters.
on the second line after 'quiet' put the following
'GRALLOC=minigbm' 'HWC=drm_minigbm'
then hit f10 to boot and see if it fixed it.
if it did, you can make it permanent by (in my case) doing the following
boot back to the boot selection screen and pick debug to boot
after it boots, type
mkdir /mnt/hd
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/hd
vi /mnt/hd/EFI/Android/android.cfg
hit 'i' to be able to make changes
go to almost the bottom and look for "Create Main Menu"
on the first entry, after quiet, enter GRALLOC=minigbm HWC=drm_minigbm
hit escape
hold shift and type :
then type wq and hit enter
vi should save and quit
type
umount /dev/sda1
then reboot
this is what I did in my case, there is probably a better way. I'm using Bliss 15.8.4 on bare metal.
