I did. My radio version is 1.39.00.05.31

did you ever get your 4g working...I just rooted also and my radio is 1.39.00.05.31

Even though your 4G doesn't work, probably because you failed to read simple instructions first, the search button on this forum does in fact work wonders still. Use it.

from what i've read around these forums most people are downgrading their radio's because the latest one don't work with 4g....and after downgrading to 1.36 it has worked for them. so try flashing all the different radios and see which one works for you

If youre in Chicago, there seems to be an issue with 4G. Issue should be resolved within 24hrs according to Sprint.

The most recent radio is 2.05.00.06.10. The most recent WiMAX (Sprint's 4G) is 25641_R01.
You can get them from this thread.
Flash them just like you do a ROM. Drop the zip file on your sdcard, install using recovery. Your phone might reboot a couple of times during the process.

No, don't do that. You need to use whatever radio the ROM you're using calls for. You can not just blindly install a new radio on a ROM that wasn't designed for it.
If you are stock, the OTA updates will bring you the newest radios. If you are not stock, you need to use the radio specified by your ROM.

And you can get those proper radio files where? Oh that's right, this thread, the same one I linked earlier.
Some of the ROMs listed on the site will tell you which you need. Some won't and let you guess which is right through trial and error. At any rate, they're all available there.

I'm not contesting your link. I'm contesting your suggestion of blindly dumping radios into a ROM that may or may not work.

What's to contest, other than being a jerk? You might as well say "don't blindly dump ROMs on your phone, you might break it." These aren't like the baseband on the iPhone where it's a pain in the butt to go back to an earlier version.

I did. I'm sorry I suggested he do it the right way the first time rather than shooting in the dark and seeing what noise you hear down range.

You shouldn't mind 'guiding' the newer folks to the right source. There are hundreds of dead ends in these forums. Many of which are bookended by peeps such as yourself saying 'search this or that'. Truth be told, there is little organization here. Sure, if you're a troll you know where to go; but there is no concise guide formulated yet.
So, sieze this opportunity to help those who are honestly trying to find the information. You can hang around and slay those who are demanding without justification. Hell, I'll join you in slamming them.

Why flash your radio?

Sorry, I am really new to the android market and am wondering why you would flash your radio? What does it do? Any response would be much appreciated.

oftentimes it adjusts how your phone picks up and send the signals. usually, i've had nothing but improvements on the network by updating my radio.
BUT, it also depends on where you are. some networks are configured slightly differently, so your mileage may vary. when i had winmo phones, we usually had a pile of radios to pick from over at ppcgeeks. it was mostly trial and error until you found the sweet one that worked for you.
my vote is for updating to the newest radio on the evo though. for now, anyway.
Thanks for the info. I really appreciate the response!

I have already flashed my ROM to Energy....all is great. The thread reccomends flashing the radio to 2.07 (or something like that) because NRGZ suggests it.
Question is...if I change the radio now after I put so much work getting the phone how I like it, will radio flash reset the phone all over again?
I have tried to search for an answer, didnt find one.

I don't know if I can post links yet, but I know of a guide from Geek For Me. In their FAQ they have a simple guide specifically for the Evo. Sorry I couldn't give you the exact link.
Edit, nevermind, thought I was in another thread. Sorry. See the post below and remember you have to reboot after each radio flash. If you're doing radio and wimax, you must reboot after each and not try to do them both at once.
its super easy, all you have to do is put the zip on your sd card and reboot into recovery. Once in recovery, choose the flash from sd card (or similar option depending on your recovery) and confirm! Thats it, no wiping or anything else is necessary for radio updates
yeah i read that geek thing and it looks really easy. i thought i found a thread earlier with a step by step procedure do it without out bricking your phone.
i may have been thinking about something else and got a little worried. damn just reading to much stuff on this today.. lol
thanks guys

No problem. I've done the same thing before. Reading all the threads on this site can overwhelm your brain with new information that's easy to forget bits. Glad to help.
I lost my 4g using unrevoked, and got a replacement phone so i am overly cautious right now. This phone has zero OTA's done on it
Now everything was done via toast 1+2 and I can do all nandroid backup etc...
I have baseband 1.39.00.05.31 and wimax 24722(verified by adb shell wimax mtd) running root safe stock rom 1.32.651.1
Currently I am not positive that running the radio and wimax updates will work with my baseband as it appears that 1.47 is required to do any updates from my readings on here. (warnings not to install unless 1.47 is in)
I have tried to sift through the Dev section of the forum but I am on info overload I suppose.
I have the 2.05.00.06.10 radio file, and both wimax files 25043R04 and 25641 R1 ready to install but I seek some verification that I can put these in without breaking 4g, losing functionality. I was also seeking an order of install so I don't mess up a working phone with only a sub par battery life (and I dont see wireless n active).
I would like to go over and give damage control or Fresh a whirl but I need the latest radios and wimax to make it work, but I am very paranoid to lose another phone.
Anyone have a link, or can direct me to where I need to RTFM for clarification?
Thanks folks!
Seriously? You already answered your own question. We're not going to make a decision for you.
Seriously!
And I failed to mention I have the engineering HBOOT
So if I understand correctly I need to OTA to 1.47.651.1 baseband, and then apply the radio updates, or is there an alternate 1.47.651.1 baseband update I should be using?
As an example should I be following
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715915
which is whitslack "How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!)"?
The newest radio and wimax come with the newest OTA if you're stock. They will only work on an rooted ROM if it is based on the newest OTA.
Again, you are not going to be spoon fed information that is readily available if you spend more than 2 minutes reading the posts on here. Find out what you have on your phone and you will answer your own questions. I could give you fish but I'd rather hand you a fishing pole.

Updating PRL or Radio on custom ROM?

I am running CM6, I asked this question 4 separate times in the thread and never got an answer, I know people get mad for putting stuff in the wrong section, but this has to do with android development.
Are users who flash custom ROM's supposed to update their "radio or PRL" for a certain ROM, I have seen alot of stuff about that and have no idea if I should update or what it does, The only thing I know about flashing ROM's is how to wipe my stuff and flash them, When it comes to Radios, overclocking, or PRL update, I have no idea. My Battery hasn't been that great and I am thinking its because maybe my cell radio is always on or something?
actually this doesn't have to do with android development...
what exactly are you confused about? now i'm confused.
I have read threads and seen people saying for certain ROM's that you need to update your radio for this ROM.
For this ROM if you scroll down it gives you a link for "latest radio and WImax"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745205
Do certain ROMS like CM6 for example need the radio to be updated or anything like that?
Every once in a while Sprint will release a new radio that supposedly gives better reception and/or battery life. To get the best results, we usually flash these radios. It's as simple as finding the radio thread and flashing the zip file just the same as how you flash ROMs. But be careful, flashing the wrong radio CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE (only if you flash a different phone's radio). PRL is preferred roaming list, and can be upgraded in HTC sense ROMs settings. It doesn't do much except tell your phone which towers to connect to when your in Roaming mode. So use your discretion and be careful.

a) you're right, this shouldn't be in the development forum, despite it being a question about adjusting the prl. questions belong in the threads of those subjects, or in q and a
b) you're not going to hurt anything by updating the radio and wimax radio
c) updating the radio/wimax radio may or may not affect the prl
d) there is not an easy way to update the prl or pri using cm6 right now. if you want to change the prl, and are using a windows machine, you can check out a program called 'cdma workshop'. i haven't used it, so i'm not going to vouch for it. other people have, and you can use it to dink around with several components of the underworkings of your phone.
got it, thanks
In techknowfiles thread they have a way to update the PRL files by grabbing Epst from a sense ROM. I'd link but I am on the xda app.

[REQ] Radio 2.15.x

Looks like Adrenalyne's server is down.... bandwith exceeded. Can someone post a link to the radio if you've downloaded and have it?
Want to Got to CM6 RC3 today, but won't do it w/o the radio updated. Would prefer something I can just run through HBOOT like a ZIP.
Thanks, If you post, please provide directions on how to install.
Again, Thanks.
You don't need the 2.15 radio to use CM6RC3. I'm using the 2.05 radio just fine.
i thought the 2.15 was much better then 2.05...
From what I read it's a hit or miss. Some people take longer to charge battery, or some slower/faster speeds on 3g. I would stick with the 2.05 radio.

Correct, you'll get a brick.
I mean... if you name it correctly, HBOOT will find the file and ask you if you want to upgrade your radio and recovery... this should be easy. Plus, it flashes recovery, so you probably don't want to be IN recovery whilst flashing recovery.
Maybe we need to redo the wiki entry; right now it looks like something from Wikipedia, when what it should have are the instructions for flashing radios (complete with warnings), flashing ROMs, battery stats reset directions, etc. Then new-comers wouldn't have to wade through these threads that are becoming bloated with the same questions and answers.

As an Incredible owner, and a budding annoying noob, I would welcome the ability to find this information in the wiki. I've spent several hours over the last two days scouring threads and the wiki and am still pretty confused.
I made what I now think was a mistake in applying Unrevoked Forever. My end goal was to get Skyraider Vanilla going on my Dinc, and I've just been feeling my way through the process. I've hacked other stuff before and thought I could find my way through with the help of awesome, helpful folks like yourselves, but I'm currently feeling like I'm in over my head.
My sense is that I need to flash my radio from the stock 1.00.03.04.06 to the 2.15 and then load Skyraider Vanilla ... but the Unrevoked folks are clear to say that when you have Forever you should flash all partitions simultaneously, so now I'm worried about what flashing the radio to 2.15 might do before I load Skyraider. And, I have read all the info. on flashing radios and taken it to heart - I am sufficiently afraid of bricking my phone.
But now that I have Forever I'm worried about what happens when the official 2.2 update comes out. I haven't found any instructions that make it clear enough to me how to handle that.
I don't expect anyone to clean up the mess I made, but I would certainly be grateful for some more noob-oriented details in the wiki. I'd also be happy to help with that effort, if there was anything I could do.
Thanks for all the great, free and often thankless work you do to keep technology open.

Unrevoked forever is only a mistake if you need to get warranty work done.... If that's the case, you have two choices... hope that the noob tech at vzw doesn't realize you have s-off or get insurance and say it was "stolen"
You can flash a radio pretty safely w/o worrying about bricking AS LONG AS YOU DON'T FLASH THE SAME EXACT RADIO TWICE IN A ROW (like if it failed the first time or something. MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR RADIO VERSION IN HBOOT BEFORE TRYING ANYTHING). If you don't upgrade your hboot (stay on 77) you'll be fine with the new radio. Don't make a practice of flashing radio's though as it's not very safe to do it all the time. I would recommend that if you have hboot 77, upgrade the radio to either 2.05 or 2.15 using the file attached in this thread, or directly from adrenylines site. To be 100% sure, I'd compare md5sum's to be sure before flashing it. Then flash SkyRaider. Make sure to do a wipe before doing so. I'm running 77, 2.15x, and CM6 RC3 w/o problems and love it. I'm a fan of CM6 hardcore, so SkyRaider is pretty much the best sense unless you use adrenylines Second Wave.... PM me if you have any q's. I'll help you out.

I have some heavy meetings in the next few days that I need my phone for, so it may be a few days before I can give it a go, but I will post my progress/results here. I have been thinking about the CM6 ROM, as I'm looking to see what true vanilla android is like, so maybe I'll give that a go.
My main concern with any ROM is Exchange ActiveSync, as I need that for work. There aren't many comments from folks about this at all, so I guess I'll just need to give it a go and find out for myself.

HTC pays for Exchange licensing I believe, so the BEST integration is going to be with a sense Rom. I believe that CM6 does have some Exchange "add-in's" to make it run better, but sense will have better exchange then plain vanilla (remember, except CM6). <- you can always check their change log. I know it has something in it for Exchange that you can take and investigate further.
Wait for official release of new radio?
One quick question. I just ready yet another page (can't post the link, since I'm a noob) explaining the possibility that the supposedly-coming-soon official update could include a new version of the radio that won't play nice with the leaked version. Specifically, it said, "Some figure there is a 50/50 chance that applying the leak, and then applying the final OTA update will brick your phone – making it completely useless."
Any thoughts on the probability of that being the case. I don't want to be yet another person asking "should I go for it," but I am curious what the smart ones around here think about the probability of the official update causing problems if you flashed the leaked radio.

Well, first, please provide me the post, you can type hxxt:// instead so you can post it here.
The "official" OTA is supposed to be coming August 18th (take that with a grain of salt) so not much more wait. If what you read is true, then I would imagine that it's a simple downgrade of whatever your current radio is to stock 1.xx and Hboot will be 77 or 79 whichever you have (b/c both were shipped originally with phone, they're not leaks) which we CAN do, then upgrade to official radio from stock. I can't see how that would brick anything since that's basically what would happen on a stock phone. IF YOU'RE CAREFUL, you can do just about anything you want to your phone, then they return it to stock (aside from S-OFF at this time)....

No Worries! I might recommend that if the update comes out on the 18th you just use that for a while. You can still root it, put new kernels on it (that I'm sure someone will put out), erase / install apps, etc... and that should carry you over nicely until you've read up on things and are ready to jump into this head first.
Like I said, whenever you're ready, pm me if you have q's I'll do my best to answer them. I'll read the post you mentioned and If I find anything worth writing home about I'll update this thread.
Good Luck.... and don't feel bad. I use this as my primary device too, so I usually err on the side of caution as well. A quick suggestion, sometimes it's easier to search what you're looking for on google then XDA directly. You can google something like XDA Incredible radio 2.15 upgrade and I've gotten more accurate results with goog then XDA... i weird but sometimes works better, sometimes works worse.....
Again, good luck!

I also want to upgrade the Radio and add the latest version of Flash. The last few flashes I've done (2.5.2, radio, and Flash) haven't seemed to work. Unrevoked Forever has been the only thing that has actually flashed successfully.
What should I do?

[Q] New and want to root

I would like to start with an apology,
I have been reading what I could for a couple weeks now and am just honestly confused.
I have a sprint evo 4g and would like to root it.
I have seen a few posts saying it can't be rooted because I took an update a few days ago and don't know if I blocked myself from root. Also I was wondering if I just reset to factory would it undo the block?
Again I'm sorry if this question has been previously answered.

Sorry, there is no root for you(us) at this time. We are all patiently waiting. No way to downgrade to an earlier rootable version either.
Welcome to the Evo 4G boards!
roger that, thanks
No problem. In the meantime there are other things you can do to achieve a more customized feel. I am a sucker for transparent widgets, which can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990014
Also, I have purchased the full versions of LauncherPro and Custom Launcher Icons from the market.
If you have MP3 files that you would be willing to upload to "the Google cloud" I can send you a Google Music Beta invitation. Just send me a private message with your email address so I can send you an invite.
Really? Did ssomeone ask this question AGAIN?.....I mean, I understand you being new and all. I'm fairly new also. But damn man. Didn't you read the rules? Search, search and search again BEFORE YOU POST. Just saying....search

I am new here to, as far as posting. I love this forum, but there is ONE bad problem; there is TOO MUCH information on some topics. Search is easy to say, but very hard to do and sift through sometimes HUNDREDS of posts and still not be able to find what is needing to be found.
I swear, I wanted to find if there was a STOCK ROOTED ROM, available to me, and all I could find after an hour was a listing of I think maybe 50 ROMS, and NONE of them stated it was a ROM that would unroot my phone, or if my phone would stay rooted after the flash. I still dont know. I gave up looking.
I purchased a launcher pro license also, but I'm finding that I like GO Launcher EX and most of the GO Dev team's apps better. It's far more customizable and bacon-y.

I don't think the evo will be rooted ever again we are screwed every one now has the crappy evo 3d. I was wondering if the same method they use to root the phone would work on ours

Crappy? I own both phones and the 3d is nice, it has a couple bugs that need to be addressed but the dual core makes it much faster and I'm getting about 13 to 16 hours battery life on a stock battery, I'm barely getting a little more than that on my extended battery in the EVO... Sidenote: the OTA gingerbread update made me switch phones, my og evo hasn't been the same since

I have searched, and searched, and been confused by what appeared to be conflicting information.
I've seen people with my version rooted, but don't understand enough yet so I thought it would be appropriate to ask. Again I have been reading about rooting this phone since I got it, but as this would be my first root I wanted to be certain I moved forward correctly first.
I am sorry if I offended you.

Here is a stock rooted rom for when you get root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830153 There are a lot of things to view in this forum but honestly it takes time to understand stuff. I did not learn to decipher new from old and right from speculation right away. You got to sip through the crap and especially before asking certain things. Hey better yet PM a person if you have a question and you think they may be able to answer you. The mods made changes in this forum as well as others a while ago to make developers post things in a certain manner to make it easier. I read this from one of the stickys... which I recommend everyone to read..
[ROM] 08/03/11 | SPRINT LOVERS | 2.3.3 | 4.24.651.1 | Radio/Wimax/PRI All-In-One
[Kernel]Golden Monkey 1.1 (31-July-2011)
etc.... take a minute and take it all in it could be overwhelming

some people with your version were rooted prior to the new software upgrade so that is why you see them rooted. Right now you have to wait and believe me when it is rooted you will know and no need to ask anymore. Keep checking Develpment section.
Read the Unrevoked 3.21 thread or even the HBoot 2.10 downgrade thread just for an fyi on how things work

Yes, you are able to acheive root through flashing a pre-rooted rom but aside from that, no, you cannot get root just by re-rooting. S-off just means the security flags are off for your device meaning the boot loader doesn't discriminate files. As long as it's PC36IMG.zip you should be good to go. If you want an appropriate way to flash roms, I suggest looking at twrp. It's sexy as hell and I love the red rum theme for it.
It's the first themable recovery, and it looks great. Then you can look at getting cm7 or any other rom you want regardless if you want AOSP or Sense.

Thanks. I remember when I took OTA update and thought that I was screwed, but only to find I was S-off. There was a thread where I flashed amon ra recovery and was able to flash a custom rom (mikmik). I went back stock and have not messed around with my EVO (other phones and tablets Lol). Just been out the EVO loop lately and was not sure if flashing amon recovery was the preferred method still.
Going to take a look at the recovery you suggested and give it a go. I'm just so use to cwm. Even having amon was a different feel for me.
The dual core processor is probably the difference other than that is the same crap and I forgot to mention about the 3d camera its horrible!! Htc said you don't need glasses I just a video for a few seconds and got dissy it doesn't make any sense about the whole 3d deal. And also why would they lower the megapixel of the camera specially if your going to have a 3d phone? I think no body is able to use the 3d feature because of the quality
