Change account for G Talk - Desire General

I have a feeling that the answer to this question will be hard reset but here goes.
I have 2 accounts on my phone. Google Apps and my other Google account.
All is good and I installed them the right way round (non G Apps account first) so that maps, marketplace etc use the right accounts.
But for some reason I have my non Google apps account setup on Google Talk and of course I want the other one. And there seems to be no way of changing this.
So any clues? Is there a way to change this (I have had a good look) or am I stuck?

Sorry, this has absolutely nothing related to your question, but how did you get Gtalk to work on your device? I got invited but was told it's only for US users? lol

GTalk is global instant messaging, are you not thinking of Google Voice?

Do you mean why do I have it?
Email, docs, calendar and so on. The usual thing you have Google Apps for.
I have the 2nd (primary) Gmail account because you need this for maps, Google Checkout (and thus marketplace) and so forth.
For now you can't use your Apps account for all other Google services

Have you tried removing the Apps account, starting GTalk, then re-adding it?

I think it's the app that's at fault really - it doesn't give you an option to select a different account.
I'd suggest though that it possibly needs to be this way, since we know GTalk and Market are somehow linked together.
Why not install another IM client for your other GTalk account?
Regards,
Dave

Try going to Settings - Applications and delete data from Google Talk Service and Google Talk Storage, see what happens.

I don't think it is faulty. I think is it designed this way.
A most Google services need a Gmail account. Talk, Checkout, Marketplace and so on and so on.
Google (for now) do not let you use your Google Apps account (if you have one) for these other services (although they have announced this will change)
On top of this, Android has the limitation that you cannot delete your PRIMARY Google account.
I believe the issue I am trying to deal with is tied into all of this.
If I have to do a hard reset then I will wait as Google have announced that we will soon be able to have our Google Apps account linked to all the other non apps services and you just know that just like the move from googlemail to gmail a few weeks ago, this will also need a hard reset!!!

Would you care to explain why that would DESTROY Gtalk? AFAIK deleting data for a specific application is like hard-reseting just that one application. I've done it many times for Gmail, browser etc. (I admit, haven't done it with Gtalk and am not willing to test because I don't want to lose my settings and history). Please don't just assume, give facts.
I'm pretty sure it's impossible to DESTROY an app on a non-rooted phone, or using just the options/settings Google/HTC provided.

It doesn't DESTROY talk. I know this because I have already tried it.
It didn't fix the problem either

Just re-read your OP and think there is no solution for your particular situation. AFAIK Gtalk is linked to your primary gmail account (the first one you setup). It uses the same autentication and port as Market and as such they are linked much deeper than I understand (e.g. it's well known that if your Market download stalls you can solve it by loging in Gtalk).
The only solution I can think about would be to use another app for Gtalk, there are quite a few good ones on the Market.

I am able to delete google account from my desire without problems in settings...accounts&sync...
Sent via my HTC Desie from XDA tapatalk app

I have the same issue.
Phone registered with personal gmail account.
Company uses google to host their email and I can not chat with anyone else in google talk.
To make it worse I have logins for some consultancies I work with and can not use those.
All I want to be able to do is select the google account to be used for a talk session.
Too much to ask?
Having more than 1 gmail account for email is not an issues , why so for talk?

[Q] Consolidate/Transfer purchased apps? aka Google Apps is making my life miserable

Before you flame, I have searched the forums but haven't found a post within the last 6 months that definitively answers the question, so maybe something may have changed.
I'm looking for a way to transfer purchases from one google account to another. I got my phone while in college and used my Google Apps account from school (<EMAIL1>@mst.edu). It wouldn't let me use that account for google checkout so I had to add <EMAIL2>@gmail.com to purchase apps. This seems to work fine and when I go into google checkout and log in with EMAIL2, I see my purchases.
Now come the issues. If I try to switch to EMAIL2 only on my Evo 4G (software reset), I can pull mail but not app purchases.
The reason I want to stop using my google apps account is that a lot of google services seem to be sketchy with integration, IE Google Reader, Music, and Plus all work great on a PC but from the android phone, no dice.
I'd like to figure out a way to migrate my app purchases to [email protected] And use it for all of my email and other services to get away from my 'professional email account' EMAIL2 and my google apps account EMAIL1.
so just a review:
[email protected] - Google Apps account from college, application integration poor
[email protected] - "professional email", don't want social media services integrated with this. used only for resumes, etc
[email protected] - personal email that I want to use for everything.
My only solution so far seems to be spending $50 to purchase all of the apps again that I use REGULARLY or ~$120 for all of my app purchases total.
Anyone ideas?
Its worth a shot, but have you tried downloading / having all the apps you want, then use titanium to move to the sdcard, the sign on on email3, then restore? It may not fix the 'licensing' issue, but you should be able to use them still. Also, you can try [maybe from a pc] log onto google, and see if you can go into account management, then change your android email account, or call/email their tech support and have them manually change it.
Titanium backup is moot until a new root is released. my Evo was overheating and bootlooping so I just got a refurb preloaded with 2.3.3 .
As of a couple months ago, Google tech support says no. It could've changed since then, you'll need to check with Google though.
There are non-root backup apps, but if the apps are protected then I don't believe they'll be able to back them up. And if the apps have a license check in place that renders the app useless, then you're SOL. I get licensing errors with restoring with Titanium Backup, so you're bound to come across the same problem. I'm glad that apps use license checks though, it cuts back on pirating.

Google Partner Setup

Ok, as soon as I entered my title for this post, XDA showed me that it has been talked about before, but on different phones, most of which are rooted. So I feel my post differs.
I have a Verizon LTE/CDMA Android 4.0.2 completely stock Galaxy Nexus. From what I have been reading, Google Partner Setup is the reason as to why Google books/earth/movies re-enable themselves after reboot if they were disabled previously.
My question(s), Will my phone have any issues if those 3 apps are disabled, not deleted entirely, just disabled ? Will my phone have any issues if Google Partner Setup is disabled, again not deleted entirely, just disabled ? Will disabling the 3 apps and the Google Partner Setup mess with OTA updates getting to my phone successfully since technically they are all still on my phone, just disabled ?
Any help/answers are welcome.
I'm not 100% but if the OTA doesn't install just re-enable them and it should work. That's how its been on every device I've ever had.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
See, that is what i was thinking that if it doesnt install any OTA update I could just re-enable them, but what i would like to know first is if anyone has disabled Google Partner Setup before/already and can tell me exactly how it effected the Nexus.

[Q] Cannot see One X on play.google.com!

Thanks, tried that, re-added my account, but no luck. My phone is still not visible from play.google.com, nor does Google Talk work (doesn't show any contacts).
Found the solution: Clear data/cache of Google Play and Google framework services and restart.
this is not working for me But I didnt find it in "list of Supported Devices"
Your phone or tablet isn’t a supported device. There is no way to manually add your phone or tablet to the device list on play.google.com, and you will not be able to use the Google Play website.

Got the same official response from HTC. Try deleting data of Google Play, Google Talk and Google Services framework, then restart the phone. Took ~1 day for the One X to show up on play.google.com though.
same for me. dont see one x on google.play
Works fine for me. Unbranded One X
Hi guys,
Ever since getting my HTC One X I've had this problem. I spent absolutely hours trying to sort this out and even posted a thread on here however it didn't seem to get any replies or anything, so I was left to solve the issue myself.
People that have this issue, typically experience the issue with the 'Play Store' too. If you try updating a stock installed application such as 'Street View' you get an error message about it not being currently available and being processed later. I spent hours messing about with this, and it turns out the issue is with the accounts!
Remove all your accounts, Google, Facebook ect, especially your HTC account. Clear all the data & cache from the Google Play Store, Framework Services ect. Set up your Google account first and open the Play Store, accept the terms and conditions ect. Go to 'My Apps' and it should have nothing listed. Set up your HTC account then go back to the 'My Apps' section of the 'Play Store' and you should have updates available. If you don't, re-do the steps stated above, however set up your HTC account before the Google account and remember, WIPE DATA!
Tell me if this works guys

This only happens if you have no internet connection (duh!) or have pending downloads on your account associated with another device. It shouldn't be the issue here, as the pending downloads time-out after a certain amount of time

Google Talk Question

Quick question...
I have a friend with a GN and a google apps account. Google Talk is constantly throwing a error since chat is disabled on the account.
What is the danger of disabling GTalk? Cons?
I know with Google Earth if you disable it after a reboot it is re-enabled. I assume it is tied into MAPS or something that needs it so it just enables.
SO I guess is talk tied into gmail and disabling it would not work? Or would he lose functionality by disabling it?
P.S. he is not rooted or unlocked nor will he.
I remember deleting gtalk on my Sony Ericsson x8 caused a **** load of problems, I couldn't use the market or any google services. Tell him to be careful.
I don't think android let's you disable gtalk anyway.
I'm rooted and have gtalk frozen by titanium with no ill effect.

[Q] Google Now with a Google Apps account?

I usually set my android phones up with my Google Apps account. Most things work fine and I've been using Latitude with this account for maybe 2 years or so.
When I ran Google Now for the first time by swiping up from the bottom of my device it asked me to choose an account to use, my Google Apps account was greyed
out and it would not let me select it, so I chose my non Apps account.
I then got the sample cards and the welcome 'wizard' to Now.
I then noticed the menu for Google Now and saw I could switch my account to my Google
Apps account, however when I did this the cards vanished and I was only left with the search box.
I'm wondering if this is something to do with Google Apps or something to do with my Apps account being set to a UK locale?
Anybody else tried with Apps account?
It is working fine with my Google apps account.
I have the same problem with my Apps account. Search box only, no cards.
If I add a gmail account to my phone and select it, then it works, but not with my main Apps account. Disappointing.
I have the same problem
I have the same problem. No cards with my main google apps account, but with my second google apps account it works well...
Any luck with this? I was very excited to try this out. All my Google Apps accounts are greyed out ... can I only choose one [I think it has Google Account associated with it]. Very said. :crying:
I am getting my new Galaxy Nexus today but will probably wait for the official Jellybean update. I will be extremely disappointed if I cannot use my Google Apps account with Google Now. Google did this when they rolled out Google+. Google Apps accounts did not work for several months! Was very frustrating. Google needs to make sure their paying customers have first access to new features not last.
Works fine with my Google Apps account. Maybe it's a bug related to multiple accounts?
My Apps account is my only Google account on the phone.
Interesting..I never stopped to think that.. I also use Google Apps account and I never got an option to setup cards or anything in regards to cards.. I get no cards what so ever. I wonder what it might be. I am guessing its a hit and miss since its working for some and not for others like myself...
I also just noticed this too today. I thought it was just some weird quirk with me, so I did multiple wipes until I finally tried my rarely-used gmail account instead of my apps account.
I'm wondering what the difference is between some apps account than others? Perhaps there's a setting in the dashboard that needs to be enabled? I'm a bit disappointed that apps accounts seem to have low priority when it comes to new features
I can now tell you that for testing purposes I tried to add my usual gmail account and when i went to Google Now it presented me choosing an account to setup with Google now. Seems like some peoples accounts are working fine with Google Apps, some aren't.
Found it! Sort of... Enable "Android Predictive UI" in your Google Apps account settings.
http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1408902
On the very bottom it says "This setting enables Google Now for your users, which is available for Android 4.1+ devices."
I still can't seem to get it to work though.
My google apps account only has a main account, no subs. So I only have that main apps account on my phone, and I don't get the Now cards or Now menu settings. Hoping for a fix or enable option soon!

Really? Did you do anything special? I just wiped again, and now I'm stuck on the Google logo, ha!
---------- Post added at 09:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 AM ----------
I just restored a backup from before my wiping spree and got it working! Changing that setting did the trick.
1. Go to your Apps Dashboard (www.google.com/a/your_domain.com) and click on settings on the top right.
2. Click on Mobile under Services on the menu on the left.
3. Make sure you're in the Org Settings tab and scroll all the way down to Android settings.
4. Enable Google Now and save.
At this point, I had some trouble getting it to make the change on my phone. I did some wipes and a restore and it finally worked. You may not have to do that though since matthewtyson seemed to have gotten it to work right away.
I checked the box you found to enable the feature, and a few seconds later I woke up the phone and swiped up for google. No reboot or anything. When I launched the Google, the mountains header image stayed in place and I got Now card instructions. Everything is working, and it is very cool! Thanks for finding the check box!

Your domain should part of your email address. Say your email is [email protected], your control panel should be at www.google.com/a/bar.com.
That's the first thing I tried, just brings up an error page.
What i'm getting at is... I just have a gmail.com account that I use for everything. So if it's [email protected] for example, what would I use to access this page? Just using arthurhucksake.com at the end doesn't work.
