I guess he's not rooted so he cannot backup his apps.
No, usually a debranding direct doesn't erase data. No warranty. Just search a little deeper.

Nandroid backup/restore?

I've just done a Nandriod restore and now I have no installed apps. Problem is the market app has gone so I can't download Titanium backup to restore them.
Anyone know of a solution? Surly the market app is part of the ROM? Anyway to get the market program back?
Using Pre-rooted Stock Froyo (2.29.405.5) [Optional mods} by teppic74 with his A2SD+ scrip.
Did you make a nandroid with ext3? Not a normal nandroid? Otherwise you programs would not be backuped. You could try flashing the rom you used, then wiping your phone (exept your ext3) Then restoring your nandroid. Then your apps should be back (most of them)

Yes it asked me something about the ext partition and I answered yes to it. If you watch when it's restoring it gets to a bit near then end when it says restoring ext partition.
I've sort of fixed it I just wiped every thing and installed the ROM with the add-ons then installed TB and most of my apps. Just spent the last hour putting all the home screens rite never agian. I've got my text messages backed up on the computer.
Wish I never started messing with it now

Nandroid Question

i have two nandroid backup of different systems (2.2.2 and 2.3.3)
now i have applied my 2.2.2 factory nandroid , so the phone is neat without any stuffs.
is it possible to restore only my data like msg, task, apps, etc from nandroid backup of 2.3.3?
as Custom Recovery creates system.img, data.img , cache.img .android_secure.img
is it posible to club / restore data from other nandroid backup ?
I would think it most unlikely on this matter.

You dont need to format SD Card (some ROM's require EXT partition, if you dont have it then you might need to repartition it), to keep apps and app data use Titanium Backup.
Backup apps using Titanium Backup
Backup contacts
Boot into recovery
Perform Nandroid backup
Wipe/factory reset
Install new ROM from zip

some basic things before flashing ROMs
Depends on what ROM you're trying to flash. Some ROMs don't require partitioning your SD card. However, ROMs that feature A2SD+, Data2SD, Data2Whatever or Data2Ext will require that you make 2 or 3 partitions. Those 4 scripts are for people who have tons of apps and cannot be served by the stock phone memory.
Safest way to enjoy flashing ROMs is to:
a) save all the stuff in your SD Card onto your computer or another storage device
b) sync all your contacts into a Google account. If you don't have one, make one. You'll find it very convenient to sync back all contacts everytime you flash a new ROM
c) use MyBackup Root or Titanium Backup; they can both save apps for later reinstatement, include settings and data, like your Angry Birds score. Personally, Titanium Backup is much better than MyBackup Root. Go buy the pro version, it works even better.
d) remember to make a Nandroid backup in recovery. Be aware, though, that when you make a Nandroid backup in ClockworkMod and in the future decide to flash Amon_Ra or another recovery, those cannot restore the nandroid backup that CWM did. Amon_Ra nandroid backup can only be restored by Amon_Ra recovery, likewise with other recoveries. So the first step to do after flashing a new recovery is to make another nandroid backup, in case of trouble.
e) remember the golden rule of safe flashing: always wear a condom. Ooops. I meant, wipe data, cache and Dalvik-cache. Many problems with hanging or bootloops can be traced to not doing the 3 wipes.
Alright thanks everyone!

Go into recovery, full wipe/factory reset + dalvik cache wipe and flash new ROM.
When you flash CM7 dont forget to also flash google apps (look in first post)

please help me TT__TT

Alright guys i did my homework and i just want to know whether is it safe to perform it ..
1st i back up my data on my andriod via gmail (contacts) ,apps /data ....SMS Backup and Restore, Call Logs Backup & Restore, and APN Backup & Restore. Each one backs up its respective data to your microSD card (in /sdcard/*appname*BackupRestore/) for easy restoration...before whipping out everything on my sd card and htc sense rom ...
Rooting the phone ......after that i'll flash a custom rom in it
backup all data from gmail/SMS Backup and Restore, Call Logs Backup & Restore, and APN Backup & Restore.
that should be all
is it correct or there is any alternative ?
I need suggestion from the android users
Cheers
you may try install a custom apk and go market to update it, I had failed in this part, and the other parts sound great.
if i use rooting methods for htc desire will it work ? or it fails ?
What ever you said, it is perfectly fine, titanium backup is really useful for any apps or things you want to save. After this you can flash a rom
If you want to root, use AAHK in the Dev section
Okay thanks for the help )
But im not really assure of the success rate TT__TT

[Q] Question about installing a custom rom

Okay my question is:
Is it possible to go from an unrooted phone with the whole software stock to a custom ROM, while keeping your data (apps, appdata, settings, sms, etc.)? If yes, how?
I'm on software version HTC WWE Europe 3.12.405.1, and I stored all my apps and photos etc on my SD-card.
I already know that the easyest way to instal another bootloader (CWM) is the AAHK. I downloaded it. But it will perform a downgrade resulting in loss of data.
Also while flashing a ROM you must reset the phone.
What I don't understand is this: you don't need to reset the SD-card, but the new ROM won't recognise the apps on your SD-card, so do you need to delete all those files then?
I know that what I'm probably asking a very nooby question, but I really hope that somebody can help me out here.
Thanks in advance, koningjim!

Take a look at this thread. Someone else had similar questions recently.
If by apps on the sdcard you mean apps you backed up with GoBackup or MyBackup or something similar, you will need to reinstall that backup app from the Play Store and use that app to restore your apps from the sdcard. If you mean with apps2sd, they're usually saved in a folder in the sdcard called .android_secure, and I know that 4ext recovery (and maybe others) wipes that folder when a new ROM is flashed. If the recovery doesn't, I would guess that it's wise to wipe it yourself.
Thank you very much for your response! This answers some of my questions, but not all. I hope the rest will be answered too.

I'm assuming you are taking about the option that Android gives you to move apps to sd. I don't expect you to know this yet, since you haven't rooted yet, but before installing any ROM, you should do a full wipe. On my recovery, which is 4ext (and which I highly recommend you use after AAHK installs CWM recovery), it automatically wipes .android_secure (where the apps2sd are saved) in the course of a full wipe. If you choose another recovery, and it does not do so, I would recommend that you delete it yourself.

Not quite sure what you are asking. If you are talking about just the apk file, there shouldn't be any problems. No need to format the sd card.
OOw, I think I get it now! The apps are stored in .android_secure and not in another place in the SD-card. I already backed up my contacts, smses etc. So I guess there's no way to keep your appdata? Because you need root for that and for root you need to downgrade, which resets the phone?

Just to clarify, the .android_secure folder is for apps moved to the sd using the Android OS's apps2sd capability. If you're referring to another method (like Titanium Backup or GoBackup or something), that's different. Those backup apps can back up your apps, but not app data, to the sdcard; you would then reinstall them using the same backup app once the new ROM is installed.
If you need to downgrade to root, I don't know of a method to keep your app data, since the downgrade would wipe the OS before you had the root capability necessary to back up app data. There might be one, but I don't know of one.
OK, nice! Now I'm rooted and downgraded. However, now I want to install 4ext Recovery. So I downloaded the 4extRecoveryUpdater.apk from their website. But my phone won't open and install it. When I click on it in downloads it just says "Can't open this file".
Please help?!!?!

Make sure "install from unknown sources" is checked in Settings -> Security. Try opening it from another application, like a file manager.
Oh well.. this sucks! Just one day after I rooted and lost all my data, a new version of Titanium Backup comes out that can back-up app-data without root
