While my phone is plugged in via usb and charging, it will randomly pop up a message asking me my charging option even though it was already charging.
Anyone experienced this?
I have had this issue with previous android phones if Sync was not installed. The only way I can get it to not pop up is to turn off USB debugging. Not sure if yours is on but I would check it.
I can consistently get that message to pop up "randomly" when I use a task manager to kill all running apps. Apparently one of them is managing which option you chose and when you kill it, it re-detects that you're plugged in and asks again.
Not sure specifically which app it is.
i had the same issue with Sync not being installed BUT once you install Sync you must reboot before it work consitantly I have found.

I am just wondering if I am alone with this problem because I can't find anyone with similar problems.
When I put the phone in the cradle when its off, after a minute or so the phone turns on and ActiveSync starts. This is obviously very annoying because it syncs when I don't even want it to. I have never had this problem with my wallaby only my blue angel.
I have gone throught the settings and turned off any automatic sync options but still it does it. Have I missed any options or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks, Ian
Not to be one of those 'oh! I have that problem, too!', but you asked if any others are having this problem, sooooo....
I've got the same problem! I notice that this happened with other USB devices, too. I had an IPAQ that did the same thing. It would power up when connected to the USB, even after a few hours.
What I think is happening is this:
I think that the USB lines are separate from the lines that the charger connects to (someone correct me on this?). There are 2 lines on USB for voltage, the other 2 are signal I think. So, when the device sees a voltage on the USB line (like when you first plug it in), it turns on. Perhaps the USB is changing state for some reason, causing the thing to turn on?
To keep it from sync-ing (I just want it to charge), I kill WCESMgr.exe and wcescomm.exe to stop activestynk. But then something even more annoying starts to happen if the phone is left on... windows constantly connects the USB and then disconnects... over, and over, and over...
What the heck?
At least somebody else is having the same issues
I came to the same kind of conclusion as you I think. As far as I know its a driver/hardware problem on the USB side, where the USB 'wakes' every now and again, in turn powering on the phone.
I am going to update my USB drivers and see if it makes a difference.
You can also open connection settings in activestink and remove the tick in the box marked "Allow USB connection with this computer".
Anyways, just wanted to share this funny one with you guys, and have it here for REFerence
so most my morning was all fine and normal, phone was plugged into my laptop USB port, just charging, not doing anything.
comes the the IT guys and push a new version of Norton Antivirus Corporate of course
after the update is done, now every time my phone is plugged into the USB port of the laptop, it will cause the T989 to reboot
if i plug it into a wall charger, or any other PC without the new updated Norton, then it works fine.
it only started after the annoying new feature of norton "Network Threat Protection" kicked in.
if that is disabled then it seems to be fine, no reboot
but the feature is locked on the Admin side... so no way to legally disable it without too many questions

I used the corp version of Norton briefly but had to stop using it because it was causing my wireless router to reboot.
Try setting the phone to "charge only" mode , usb debug off, plug it in see if it triggers, then turn USB debugging back on without unplugging it ....
At first, I did not have any of these issues, however recently they have popped up leading me to wonder why..
1. When I plug in my phone to charge, occasionally it takes about 2-3 seconds for the screen to come on and show that it is charging. Sometimes it's still almost instant, but more and more it seems to take a few seconds to acknowledge the fact that it's plugged in. This is using a wall outlet
2. "Mobile Life Contacts" seems to automatically change my settings in account & sync after reboot. I had de-selected "sync contacts" as I do not wish for T-Mobile to have all of my Google contacts synced, however after a reboot it automatically changes it back. When I go to accounts & sync it shows that "sync contacts" is selected.
Anyone have similar experiences?

im having the same issue as your charging one.... i noticed that too it takes a few seconds for the phone to charge since you can hear the charging tone and the red light come on..but its not instant.... it could be because of the cable... i havent tested it yet, but it seems that it charges right away when its on my laptop with a different cable..i havent tried using a different cable for the wall outlet one..
I'm thinking it may have something to do with the wall charger?
Because you're right, it does not happen when I use my USB on my PC.

It does the same thing to me. Hit the home button right after you plug it in and it will acknowledge that it is charging right away.
I should mention I am running fully stock.

Yeah I was experimenting and if the screen is on (i.e. the phone is awake) then it recognizes it immediately. Must be a sleep issue.
Perhaps due to the fact it's activating MTP when you use a PC, it forces the wake faster, thus it does not appear to have the same issue.
Wonder why I did not notice this in the beginning though..
Isn't it supposed to remember what I choose?? It remembers that I've allowed the PC USB debugging permissions, but not normal USB connection. Every time I plug it in it runs as this Verizon Installer ****. I have to go onto my phone and either pull down my notification shade > click USB options > click MTP or sometimes a box will pop up and ask me to hit 'Allow.' Both of which are pretty difficult with a broken screen that only turns on 1 out of every 100 times.
Is this normal behavior?? Is there anything I can possibly do to fix this insanity? I've already tried the MTP Enabler app and of course it doesn't work and it drives me nuts.
I believe that is by design, to remind the user to pick which option he wants the USB to use. I don't see this as a hardship, but hey that is just me...
Pixel XL - constantly defaulting to "USB supplying power to attached device"
No matter what I do, this phone constantly defaults to setting it to "USB supplying power to attached device" mode. I have never used this option so I'm unsure why the phone is doing this. I also need to adjust the settings when I try to charge it because it does not recognize that it is plugged in to a charger. After plugging in the phone to the charger, sometimes it will correct itself to "Charging" mode by switching it in the drop-down of the notification area and sometimes it will switch over after opening the Battery in settings. I have to play with the settings just to get it to charge every time and always have to have it plugged in first otherwise it will immediately default back to "USB supplying power to attached device" mode.
This phone was purchased used from someone who said they rooted the phone, but didn't install any images or roms. It currently is not rooted. And it is the Google Store version with the unlocked bootloader. Not sure if that info helps.
Can anyone tell me if this is a hardware or software issue and how to fix it?
Oddly enough after the last update I started having this problem with my radio.
I have a kenwood dnx694s. When I would plug my phone up for Android auto I would instead get the message you are getting."supplying power to attached device".
I simultaneously installed ex kernel and bought a new type c cable so I cant tell you which one fixed it. But the problem did not occur after that.
Only problem I'm having now is my charging port is going to hell. Cables don't stay in, and while trying to use my phone while charging it quickly changes between charging and discharging.
