MyTouch Slide camera = Nexus One camera? = 720p? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What are the chances that the camera for the nexus one and mytouch slide are the exact same?
Maybe this could make it easier to somehow port or make a 720p video recording based off the one for the nexus one?
If it is the same, the only thing that I can think of that can cause problems is that its not running as fast, but still I like to keep my hopes up high

I haven't really read on how the mod to the Nexus Ones' camera makes the recording 720p but it's FAIRLY unlikely that they're the same camera. See if you can find any tech sheets or tear downs of the Slide.

The 720p video recording ...

How good is it?
Anyone has a sample 720p video file that was created using HTC Desire?
Thanks.
I am curious too... anyone got a sample?

It sucs, upscaled video, low fps
Not impressed by it at all. Seems worse than my previous N95.

The image is crisp, but the fps is too low. I'm hoping it will get better when we get the official 2.2 update, but for now 480p is what you want to use
well, i don't know. i took one a few days ago (i forget which rom now) and the 720p one was relatively ok (low fps - 20 ish according to mpc-hc), but no tearing.
old vids i took on stock 480p was a tear fest on movement and unusable. as i've mentioned before though, i'd rather have a higher fps recorded with 480p. would make for a far smoother playback experience
ehh not impressed
I don't know, for my part I'm surely very impressed and happy with it.

This wasn't even in perfect light conditions and with the leaked rom from some weeks ago...
Remember to select hd in the video

Hehe it sure sounds like that. No, it's a bunch of idiots in the garden below me, I think it was a girl shouting, but nothing more...

Here is an example of the 720p video.... You will have to change the youtube setting to 720p to see the full quallity. Notice how jumpy it is.. like someone else said my old N95 was better.

Yes, all 720p recorded looks CRAP. I'm just hoping the official 2.2 is improved or optimized. No offense to the chefs, but I have seen some aspects of pre release roms not living up to the official versions. i.e. seen some slow sluggish unstable hero 2.1 roms. the offical one is 100% perfect.
we know the hardware of the Desire whould easily be able to handle 720 recording so lets wait and see.
glad its not just me.
yes sharp picture when not moving but what use is that
no one has released a video of official 720p recording, leaked roms mean nothing so we're just going to have to wait.
I previously had recorded choppy videos. Installed mcr, replaced my sd card with my new class 6 one and it went away.

Video recording on the Desire suffers drastically due to the lack of any stabilization. Extremely shaky unless you have it mounted perfectly still. I hope the final Desire release has some improvements over the leaked in this regard.
YouTube re-encoded vids are kinda pointless to judge quality from. Here's an original someone had shot a while back before they had higher bitrate recording available: http://db.tt/v7oVpw

720p recording worthless? still pictures?

Im planning on getting the desire, and im REALLY interested in the 720p recording, but from the videos ive seen in youtube they look like like upscaled videos whats the bitrate ? 19-20 fps? also the audio is craptastic
What about the pictures? i HATE the pics taken by my milestone, are the desire pics any better?
EDIT: i just realized this is the wrong forum x.x please close this, im gonna open a new post in general discussion
The 720p are pretty good for me actually. When transferred to my PC, i can view it in fullscreen with HD quality.
Pictures taken without flash is great, but with flash...zzzz its terrible. Not sure bout others but it does suck for me.
720p video is still in progress and for Desire/ Nexus
with the new radio that came yesterday HTC have more
improve the quality of recording, Cyanogen and his team
working on raising the fps and video at autofocus ..
also be expected to improve the quality and the options
I can record it fine, with 20 fps, but I don't see much point in it, cause the lens doesn't give very high quality video that is really worth recording in HD

get a faster sd card. its much better. the one that comes with the phone is rubish

Yep,You should buy a new clas6 or clas10 card & install new radio
first instal new radio file from hire ,camacoder workin so smooth now
I used to think the video was garbage too, which is is from stock rom with stock radio. But upgraded everything, radio, modaco r8 and just tried it now (never thought it would make it better) and its fine.
Yeah, not on par with iPhone 4 HD recording, but still quite good. Its only going to get better with the modifications that are coming.

FB17 - Zero shutter lag camera

Ok guys - i'm somewhat of a noob.
Obviously the camera in fb17 hasn't changed at all. What are the chances (even if samsung does not update to the galaxy nexus camera app) that it can be ported over to the E4GT with zero shutter lag capability. I mean, afterall the camera specs of the E4GT seem to exceed the galaxy nexus...so why not?
Any educated guesses here?
Thank you in advance.

great question, frankly.
i wonder if this is something that will change with a final build, as it didn't seem to me that the press release was saying this was a "nexus" feature, but an ICS one....
that being said, and pardon my lack of correct terminology for phone motherboard HW, but it may be something similar to a "chipset" issue, or a CPU/GPU to camera HW communications issue, if this is indeed a HW issue and not simple a missing driver or software update not implemented yet. I wouldn't think it has anything to do with the camera HW itself. A 0-lag camera would have to be about either a really well written driver, or a specilized feature of a chip that can communicate the information to the CPU.
You can push it via adb i think ssconceptz did it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
You made some good points...i hope it doesn't end up being a hardware issue...
oh wow...let's hope for the best i guess
Wow, great question, I hadn't even thought of this. I must admit I tried the camera on a Nexus and was kinda jealous. Let's hope for the best!
Its hardware. The Sensor on the Nexus is new and designed specifically to process a picture in a fraction of the time a standard sensor does. In doing this it was not possible to have the sensor as high res (8mp) as the Epic 4G Touch. The Epic Touch actually has a very low shutter response time, and high process time for an 8 MP phone sensor.
Oh maaan that's messed up. I specifically got the E4GT thinking it was a new software feature that got introduced in ICS and since the hardware specs were similar to the galaxy nexus, I didn't think it was going to be a problem...oh well..

5 megapixel, not that that matters. But I also don't think it's backside illuminated like the SGS2 and iPhone 4S. Could definitely be wrong about that one.
Does SGSII leaks have instant capture?
Just use "Camera ICS" on the Android Market...
It is the Stock Camera from the Galaxy Nexus as you wanted, but should be compatible.... you must be running ICS I hear....

Interesting...thanks for the tip.
I tested it just new but night zero shutter lag.

just download Fast Burst Camera from the market. it takes 100 somewhat photos in 10-15 seconds... it works for me. im running stock rooted FB17
The problem is that the pics are low res...

Someone said that it's zero shutter lag... sorry

Please keep in mind that you are capturing a huge image!!! You are capturing an 8 MEGA pixeel image, you'll nearly never get a COMPLETE ZERO lag...
Another question:
Will 1080p video recording ever work normaly?
I do.t know ebout everybody else because I havent seen no threads on this but my 1080p has "ghosting" and lags on two different Epics and all roms.720p is beautiful but 1080 is useless.I don'teven know why they included that option.
AOSP Camera works fine in FB17 but yes it's hardware related not software. You can try out the ICS theme we just posted for FB17, it has the Camera from AOSP in there.

I think your lag is sd related if your recording to external storage that is slow. I have recorded several soccer games that are at a fast pace and looks perfect in 1080p.
True but the iphone is capable to capture an 8mp picture with zero shutter lag...so....

Galaxy Nexus HDR

I've been looking around but I can't find anything, but are there any ROMs or APKs floating around that enable HDR for the Galaxy Nexus? Is it something that can be enabled with software or are there hardware limitations? Thanks
Hardware prevents this. Search for any of the threads already about this for more detailed explanation.

mind explaining....i found about 4 different threads here on XDA and not one of them explained why it was hardware related. at least not with supported facts.
i am pretty sure this is all software. IIRC, i watched a video of someone who switched it from regular to HDR and the image on nexus 4's screen changed when they did that. now this may have been just an increase/decrease in exposure to prep for the 3 different exposure shots.
does the N4 ACTUALLY take 3 shots at different exposures and then process the image? or does it just take 1 and "fake HDR" it?

Yea I've seen most places saying it needs to be enabled in the software but there are also a few that say the hardware prevents it. It would be nice to know if there is a solution or not.
A HDR picture is produced by taking 2 or more pics at different exposures very quickly. It can be done in software for sure, but I think the delay between the pictures will be too long to be taken when holding the phone by hand without some hardware magic.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
HDR is purely a software feature, I'm guessing Google wanted it to remain exclusive with the nexus 4.

I don't think its hardware... Just search in HDR camera in the play store... You should be able to find it.

The way Google did the solution makes it incompatible with Galaxy Nexus...
They did it in a way that the camera driver has to provide one or more scenes that have HDR support.
Obviously, it is very possible to do it in Galaxy Nexus, it has a really speedy sensor and is able to take many pictures very quickly, and as everyone knows, HDR is a software task, getting "the best" out of two or more pictures that have different exposure settings. But, the 4.2 AOSP Camera doesn't have this support, it only exposes HDR if the camera driver has HDR scenes/modes... As no one (I really don't know who has the sources and could do it) bothered to update the Galaxy Nexus camera drivers for Android 4.2, there you go, no HDR mode using AOSP camera.
I use HDR Camera+ with my gnex and it works very well. Just make sure to hold your hand very steady or rest it on something

Camera APKs and quality

I have come to a point where I don't remember the camera being so low quality on the Optimus G (maybe due to the time that's passed by and upgrades on newer phones) but I'm curious to know if different camera apks like the LG signed aosp one is better or worse than lets say the G2 camera or google play edition. I know software has to do with improving the quality of the shots to a certain point but again I haven't seen anything for 4.4.X roms. Anyone that can help me out here.
I use camera FV-5 no matter what when it comes to needing great pictures. The stock Google camera also is great 80% of the time. Those two seem to be the best IMO. remember to wipe off the camera glass before pictures also, simple but some people forget to. Also scratches on it will reduce the quality. ANYWAYS, those two cameras + epics mod = definitely acceptable.
