For those of you like to update OS ROM, you can use Spirite Backup to restore all you application (program installed). Works really great. Only the update CAB files need to be reinstall suck 8525 keyboard fix, comm vibrate..etc.
work with all editions WM6.

While yes it is possible, It not advised even by sprite itself. They have a restore option to use after upgrading Rom option. But if you read their support forums, you will find it is not recommended.
But, If you restore you may be restoring updated windows files with an older version; which could cause instability. And at best you maybe restoring files and registry settings that should not be restored. You maybe restoring over some of the new settings and fixes. If you are going to restore to what you had before the upgrade, why upgrade.
If you reload everything via activeysnc add/remove it really does not take that long to reload your apps and you can be sure that things are going to work correctly.
I must disagree, SPB Backup work much much better on WM6 as sprite backup. there is a way how to use sprite, but it is little complicated, and you must set some settings (exclude some files,...) which is not necessary on SPB backup. I use at this time both, SPB and Sprite, each for different version of OS. Sprite for WM5, SPB for WM6. with sprite is problem when you want restore backup, in SPB no.

my installation of sprite 5.1 doesn't go well. The system says that it's not built for this WM version... have i to fix the cab to get it working?
thats interresting, I had no problem to install version 5.1 to any WM6 or WM5, only differences was in restore process on WM5 and WM6... maybe you can ask on Sprite support - http://www.spritesoftware.com/about-sprite-backup

I don't know if it is recommended or not...but I have been doing an Update Restore with my Sprite Software and I haven't had any problems... YMMV.
Well... I have been use it among WM6 cook ROM. NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
When I restore file, it will NOT go to previous version. Ther are option to select if you are only backup the application, config files..etc.

also i am using spb backup now, due to my problem, but sprite has *A LOT* of functions compared to spb. I'm not bored to exclude files manually or through a command line (ie *.tmp)...
@sinmae: what do you mean saying : only differences was in restore process on WM5 and WM6... ?
I have been using Sprite for over a year now and never had a problem with backing up or restoring with it yet. I like the functionality of Sprite over SPb. I have had too many problems with all of the SPB software that I will not touch them any longer.
I've been using SPB Backup sucessfully for some time and its been an essential for someone who like to play around with the system as much as I do. I've been trying to find a piece of backup software that will work to produce a full backup with 6.1 as SPBs doent seem to fully work, even with the help of PIMbackup.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Have you tried sprite backup?
I think that spb backup is the best... but i must affirm that sprite backup offerts more options than spb software (you can restore your data after a rom update)
This is a link for spirites abckup:

How can you do that and different roms have different settings, doesn't that effect current rom functionality
I tend to find if you restore a backup with spb backup using different roms but same wm06.1 versions what tends to happen is that you end up with the rom that was backed up... BUT because there may have been different apps cooked in you find errors cropping up with soft resets needed a lot and sometimes major lockups that require hard resets.. And thats my 2 cents... cheers
Same release only

This is the same with sprite backup also.
So, if you want a new rom then only backup contacts and messages as there is no point to backup complete OS... Everything needs to be reinstalled anyway. these programs are just in case of events that require hard resets, no good to backup apps or anything...

I've you restore after a hard reset or a rom upgrade? what app have you used spb or sprite???
with spb if you do a hard reset you can restore all apps you installed and their settings, before your hard reset (but i've tested only with the same rom).
I use SPB Backup. I was saying that the full os backup is only good for HARD RESETS as it puts the complete os, registry settings and apps onto your hermes. If you reflash your os then restore your backup it overwrites the NEW os with the OLD os, however, because the new os probably doesn't have all the apps that the old os had cooked into it you get errors as the os cant find things it requires. Hope that cleared it up instead of smearing everything with mud....
UC roms

Its also make you have issue with the new now like freezing up and etc. Its just not worth the headache. Look in UC roms it is very little work to reinstall your app. Do a search for UC roms and read up on it. I'm tell is sweet I just did it for the first time it works like a charm.
What is the easiest way to get all of my settings contacts and e-mail settings back on my phone after I do a Rom upgrade?
use a backup utility before you re flash
Will a back up remember all the programs and contacts and mail settings?
I'm by no means an expert, but it was my impression that it was not a good idea to restore a backup onto a new rom. Things are not necesarily in the same place and it can cause problems. That being said i don't really know of any solutions for you.
Haven't tried it yet, but the new Spb Backup v2.0 will restore data between upgrades, don't know about each setting though. On the other hand, if it saves all registry settings and certain files (i.e. ".ini") then everything should be the same.
if you're installing another ROM, you'll do best by reinstalling all your programs. this will ensure that the programs work with the newly installed ROM. i use MS Outlook to backup contacts... backing up email settings depends on what you use for email; if you're using a POP3 account, i suggest you reenter them.... in my opinion, using backup software to reinstall your programs, settings, etc., is risky and may cause unexpected issues. good luck!

Spb Backup has been incredibly buggy for me on my Telus Touch... does it work well for anyone else?
It freezes unless I do this: back up my documents only, turn off the option to create an exe and don't use encryption.
spb back up and ROM upgrade
so,on the telus touch, have you tried the rom upgrade and used spb backup to restore?

Not dumb, there are always questions when you install new software. But, this is another great feature of Spb Backup, it creates self-extracting restore files, with an option to create a copy of the software as well. So install it to your main memory, and have the files kept on your card. Whenever you need to restore, just run the file, you don't even need the app installed. Also includes a desktop sync app.
Rom update
Thanks for the speedy reply,I'm just looking now for any issues doing Rom update with vista 64(Telus tech said there should be no problem, but I've yet to get the same response twice from them)Ok i hope this new update is worth the sweat!

No prob, almost forgot to mention, after restoring the data, your PC will recognize it as it did before. I really like this feature, thought all my data was going to be duplicated.
Dear All
Having a rooted Desire with Froyo and Apps2SD+, i needed to migrate to a bigger 16 GB card. In that (failed) effort I decided to remove all apps and then restore them.
I backed them up via MybAckup Pro and Titanium Backup. Then, after reboot, no backups were detected by TB. I even wrote to the support but no answer. I had to revert to MyBackup Pro which apparently had a mind of its own regarding which apps to restore. Now Google Maps is missing on my phone and neither will it install. Also, com.gapps are closing on me every minute.
I have decided to do a factory reset but it'd be nice if a few questions are answered first:
1) I understand that NANDROID is the best way to back up; however, it doesn't provide me a way to restore apps one by one or in batches. Any solutions?
2) When I do a factory reset, will I end up with a clean phone with root and my current custom ROM, or the phone as it came from Orange?
3) Is there a way to install Google Maps and to remove the gapps errors without factory reset?
4) If I restore from NANDROID after factory reset, will all the errors/instability come back as well?
Thanks
1) Nandroid does an image of your custom phone, like for example Norton Ghost would do. Its like saving the setup/state of the phone at the time you do the backup.
2) A factory reset deletes all user data. You end with your current ROM as it was a clean install, it will not change the ROM you're using. If you're using a custom ROM you will still be with that custom ROM.
3) Can't Google Maps be downloaded from Market? Also you can try to extract the .apk from a ROM and copy it to yours via adb for example. As for the errors I dont really know if they're because data corruption and a reset will fix them or its the apk that isnt working as intended.
4) As I said earlier, doing a Nandroid is doing an image of the current state of the phone. If you do a Nandroid of a phone that has errors and you restore it, the errors wont disapear.
If you want to have a backup of the list of apps you already have you can use AppBrain. Its a little app that syncs your list of apps from the phone into a google account so when you do a full wipe you have only to install that app again and sync with the saved google list of apps. It wont save the data of the aplications but it will save the list of the ones you've installed.
Azureus: That is a most helpful reply, I sincerely appreciate it.
Google maps is not appearing in the market. I tried to sideload it and it still doesn't install. Thanks for the GREAT AppBrain trick.
I would appreciate if you could answer:
1) Which is the best, most stable custom ROM to use with official Froyo+Sense, Apps2SD+ ? I have doubts about stability of current ROM.
2) Which app can enable me to back up apps and then restore them one by one, given that Titanium Backup is not working for me somehow?
1) I personally use OpenDesire and its a non Sense UI ROM, so I dont really know what Sense UI ROM is the best. I've tryed several Sense UI ROMs and two that gave me a good feeling where LeeDrOiD Mod and the official Sense ROM of OpenDesire Team.
2) I've tryed several apps for data backups and the one that I liked most was Titanium Backup... May I ask why isnt working for you? I've tested both the free and donate version and they seem to work pretty well...
Thanks. Will try Leedroid now.
As for titanium, or backs up everything all right but when I try to restore it shows nothing. Don't know why is that
Titanium Backup saves the backups by default in a folder as the same name as the app in your SD. Have you tried deleting all the folder and doing backups again to see if the restore works? You can also go to settings and change the default folder in which it saves the backup to see if its a problem with de folder/SD or its the app.
hi, ive just installed a new Rom, Woop Woop.
however i now want to have all the apps i had before.
i got the .apk files.
i tried using titanium backup, but it wouldnt back upp all my apps? only some of them
so im just wondering is their an app that would install them in one go?
i know windows mobile has one, but cant find one for dhd...
any help much appreciated
thanks
Sometimes my google account does that for me, by restoring apps. I usually just redownload them. If you want to backup, I've always used MyBackupPro, just because it's simple.
The apk Files you can install Manual....i use titanium Backup the normal Version abs it works to.before flashing have to Do a Backup of all data and after flashing you restore them...thats all
If you just reinstall from APK I dont think they will be linked to marked and you will not be able to recieve updates.
