After completing full root and nand unlock, my Evo no longer calls itself an Evo... If I go to menu > settings > about phone > phone identity, it is called PC36100. This is also true when going through the initial setup wizard(adding gmail accts, etc) it refers to itself as a PC36100. I realize this doesn't really affect the usage of the phone, but I find it very annoying... Is there a way to correct/prevent this? Or is it an unavoidable side effect of rooting with the current methods?
This is normal, and is the same for stock.

Does it even display as an Evo in a stock rom? As far as I'm concerned, it's a PC36100. I'd rather see the model name than the marketed name.

Can You Help Me Out With My Evo Issues?!
I Have No Android Market At All In My Phone. And I Have Rooted It With CM6, After I Did That I Had Flashed The Google Add Ons, And Nothing!! My Messaging Wouldn't Work, Internet Wouldn't Work, And Most Importantly, No Android App Market. So I Then Immediately Format Everything So It Was Stock, And Now I Still Have No App Market, Youtube, Sprint Football... (etc.) I Know I've Tried Different Rooting Methods Before For My HTC Evo, So Could Some Of Them Being On My SD Card Have Some Sort Of Effect With The Whole No App Market Deal..? Also, Can You Please Tell Me How To Fix This Issue? Thanks So Much!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, another question...
Is there a way to get the Nexus One's animation for opening programs on the Desire?
Installing the Launcher2.apk unfortunately didn't do it. Maybe there's another version of it with the animations?
Or is there any other way to do it?

Not before root access has been released
And when/if root access is possible, how will it be done, then?

well i don't know for sure but probably just changing a file in the root file system
Thanks. I hope somebody can figure it out.
You'd have to flash a new bootscreen, not hard, needs root.
No, I don't mean the bootscreen. I mean the animation when opening apps from the home screen.
I read somewhere that its currently exclusive to the nexus one 2.1 but it will be as standard in froyo. Maybe we'll have to wait til froyo is out (unless you want to root)
It's available on the Motorola Droid as well.

Wow, didn't know that! If the droid has it, we should have it too!
We definitely should have it. It's soo nice, I miss it since I exchanged the Nexus for a Desire.
You are NOT talking about the bootscreen are you? You mean that when you open an app, it 'fades in' and 'fades out'? (like on the iPhone?)
From what I know, but then again may be removed from the Desire, you must go to options, screen options and somewhere in these options there is a 'animation' option.
Please see this vid and around 3:30, he shows how to turn on that 'animation'.
Now I do not know if this is what you are talking about, but even if it is not, could somebody please tell me if this option is also present on the Desire?

Yes, that option is present, but only activates the screen transitions inside of apps, but not the launch animation. On the Nexus and Droid, it activates ALL animations.
It seems HTC have taken those animations out. I really don't understand why, and I want them back.

NOEZ!
I can't believe this... slowly there are more and more things that make me be unsure about the Desire. First the battery life, second the bad sound volume and now I hear that the awesome 'launch' fade-in and out a la iPhone animation is not present.
Could somebody tell me if this can be changed after rooting the Desire? Which btw, is something like 'jailbreaking' your iPhone right? Is it hard to root a device running Android like the Desire?
Battery life is quite good, about the same as the HD2 I had before. I also have no complaints about the sound volume, don't know what people are talking about.
Only complaints I have are the missing animations and the limited internal storage (since it still can't be rooted).
I'm really happy with the device apart from that. It's so much nicer with Android, than the HD2 was.

Jailbreaking = Technically Illegal
Rooting = Enabling the root account on a linux system (aka Administrator).
It should be available in "Spare Parts" after rooting.

No, it is NOT illegal. It's merely a breach of the EULA; which has bugger all to do with legalities. The worst that can happen is that you invalidate your warranty by "jailbreaking". (I hate that term as well, it's merely CID and SIM unlocking, something we've being doing on XDA for years, but nooooo.... Apple users just HAVE to have their own word for it, as if they invented the whole concept...)
I'm hoping HTC enable it in an update. Any chance of that happening?
Now that it's rooted, does anyone know how we could get it?
I noticed in the video posted that even after the nexus one enabled all animations it didn't have the "zoom" animation from within the settings (like going from main settings list to the wireless or sound and display menu)
Is it possible to have the zoom animation everywhere, i am sure i has this before with other roms. It may have been called moto blur or just blur animations?

I have been trying to root/nand unlock my phone all day, and for what ever reason i cannot get it to work, i will pay someone 10$ VIA Paypal if they can help me root/nand unlock my evo and also get a custom ROM working. Be cautious... Just tried playing with this on CM7 #B30, and almost couldn't get it off my phone. Also, didn't appear to work properly (I'm guessing its a Gingerbread issue). Not sure if these results are typical, but I had to reboot 3 times, uninstall through both the market, and app manager, and without being able to do nandroid yet, I was a little nervous.
Idea sounds great though. It'd be a fun trick to show friends, that's why I gave it a shot.

You don't follow directions. And it worked fine on my gingerbread build. To delete it fully, you first need to to in to settings, locations&security, then select device admin. Untidiness the checkmark, and select deactivate. Then delete.
Personally this was a bit too sensitive for me, but very cool concept.

Hi, there.
I'm on Vodafone in the UK and my new One X displays the message 'Loading' with the moving circle underneath every time I return to the homescreen or come out of a programme (for between 3 and 5 seconds.) I've only had the phone for a day and have arranged to have a replacement delivered on Monday, but I wondered whether anyone else has noticed this? It's obviously a dealbreaker but I can't see any other threads, so am I right to assume I just got a dodgy phone?
(I also have a yellow spot on the bottom left of the screen, so I'm not sorry to be getting a replacement.)
Thanks in advance!
The loading screen happens to almost all the OneX out there but if your planning to unlock bootloader then you can use SuperCharger script or one of the custom ROM which already has it. Otherwise you have to live with it.

Gosh, really? I mean this is just infuriating - every time I exit something, there is a reeeeally long pause before I can do anything else. Does that happen to all the phones? Every review I've read talks about how fast this phone is and I would have thought a three or four second hiatus before a new task can be started would have been mentioned somewhere within the torrent of praise I've read for the One X.
I've just come from a BlackBerry Bold which was much quicker and the iPhone doesn't pause like this - if the new phone has it, I'm going to have to rethink.
Is this something others are also experiencing?

It's been a common problem with Android that's why we have SuperCharger script. You'll be suprised how of them are using that script.

Doesnt that disable multi tasking?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I believe so. A quote from Android Developers website.
Immediately destroy activities
Tells the system to destroy an activity as soon as it is stopped (as if Android had to reclaim memory). This is very useful for testing the onSaveInstanceState(Bundle) / onCreate(android.os.Bundle) code path, which would otherwise be difficult to force. Choosing this option will probably reveal a number of problems in your application due to not saving state. For more information about saving an activity's state, see the Activities document.

For me the activity that restored normal time (instant) when going to the home screen was deleting apps I had installed today. I uninstalled Adidas MI coach app and boom, the loading circle wasn't there any more.

Probably, if you were to check it. The OP has indicated that he got around the problem by unchecking it. In which case there is no effect on multi-tasking. I don't think that is the default setting anyway's, so somehow the setting must have got set on the OP's phone.
Also not sure why it is being said that this loading time is common. It isn't! I have never seen it on my H1X and this would have raised a big concern over usability of the phone....
So yeah, basically I'm having problems with my phone slowing down and lagging quite badly when I change CPU frequencies and I want to do a full restore as if the phone was fresh from the factory so I can start again. How do I do this?

It IS the same method to reset that device though.
With the device off, power and volume down should get you to the menu you're looking for. From there find the factory defaults menu. I can't for the life of me remember what stock recovery looks like.
