media player playing game sounds - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I downloaded fun game called sniper vs sniper, which i really like. However It seems all my media players including the default one are picking up the ingame sounds as songs =/.
Does anyone know a workaround for this? I would like to keep the ingame sounds just not have the media player recognize them.

what media player are u using? i use Mixzing and it allows u to choose what folders to add musics or media to it from
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.mixzing.basic works better for me then htc or android player see if that helps u might like it better too

Place a file called ".nomedia" in the directories you dont want your media player/gallery app to index

I forgot about the .noindex trick but I prefer Mixzing anyway.

This does not seem to work with HTCs gallery and media player. Anyone else concur or am I doing something wrong?

Works for me with the stock media player and gallery, I hide my 'Audiobooks' directory that way which has both images and mp3's.

Remove unwanted files from music player

I installed the Asphalt game from the market and now there are close to 180 ogg files named raw* in my music player list. Is there anyway to get rid of them without unistalling the game?
I don't want to use some other music player since I like the default one's widget
Create a file with notepad and give it no name and the extention .nomedia place this in the directory that contains the items you don't want to be displayed in your media player and your problem is solved.
So you will end up this: ".nomedia" it's totaly empty but this is the way 2 go.
Worked perfectly.. Thanks!
Is there a similar approach to sorting images? The albums they show up in seem to be quite random. I'd like to define only certain folders to grab images from for the albums. I just can't figure out to manage photo albums at all.
i did it and worked at first but now i see them in music player. they are scanned again
edit: a restart fixed the issue and now they don't appear
Does it work with video files too? also wondering if it is anyhow possible to hide applications in program listing?
tried this, as my audio book files showed up in the music player, and it works...but...it also removes the audio book files from the audio book player! So I had to remove the .nomedia file again to be able to listen to my books
thanks! worked

Best music player on the Desire

What is the best music player on the Desire ?
Something that ideally supports mp3, m3u, flac, wmp, wav ogg
Stock supports MP3 and WAV. Flac is supported if you root and install CyanogenMod. I haven't found any player capable of playing M3U, WMP or OGG yet.
I'm pretty sure MortPlayer plays .ogg (brilliant music player BTW) - I could be wrong though...
If installing CyanogenMod allows for flac playback then then pushes me that much closer towards rooting my device - just need the courage as I've heard one or two stories of people bricking their phones. I wouldn't consider myself that much of a noob with these things but I hope someone can come up with a noobs guide to rooting your Desire...
TuneWiki is the best, has more than just music playback!

Ahem... The built-in player supports playing OGG files...
Thanks for the tips. I prefer MortPlayer which can play my files even if they are not perfectly rendered ID3 tags and have no album cover.
One thing that annoys me about most of the newest phone on the market is that it requires you to create a playlist of some sort.
Back in the days when most players would work just by simply playing all the files inside a folder.

Meridian can do that. You can navigate through your sdcard, long press the desired folder and play all (and a few other options)

Not mine it doesn't. Copy and pasted files into a directory and played. Not until a few days later did I set up a few playlists. This was using the stock player but was also playing around with TuneWike and 3 at the same time.

Thats something thats annoyed me too. I just want to play files in my folders, not spend ages making a playlist........ Just downloaded Meridian and its doing what I want. Thanks for the tip off.
I just make sure all the tracks within a folder have the same 'Album' name, that way when you sort by album, they're all grouped correctly.
You can do this in Windows by highlighting all the tracks within a folder, then right click and go to "Properties | Summary | Advanced" and update the 'Album Title' field.
It can be instant, or take a minute or so to update the album name, depending on what type of ID tag it uses.

[Q] music playing

Hello everyone! I'm having problems playing some music on the phone. I've used googles music app from market, default htc music app, and cubed player. They all seem to skip over all the songs. However, finding the music in root explorer will play it from there! They are mp3 320 bitrate... I assume not variable quality. Anyone else experience this? I'm on skyraider 1.3 btw. Thanks!
all the music players i've used work fine with my mp3 files. are the songs that get skipped in the same folder as the other files that work? the only thing i can think of is a .nomedia file is placed in their folder, which makes any media invisible to any media player, pics included.
try moving the music that isn't recognized to a different location and check again.

HTC Music app,how to play by folder?

Hello!
Though I have HTC phones for 2 years, I never used them for music play.
I bought the Stereoclip yeaterday and I am ''obliged'' to use the HOX to stream music as my cowon J3 BT volume is too low and crappy.
Now to focus on the question here, is there any way to play songs per folder?
I always divide my songs by genre in folders like ''Trance'' ''Rock'' ''80s''...
Ok the HTC music player can play by genre but unfortunetly my mp3s are nothing but well ID3taged + I don't want to put 500 songs in a genre.
So please how can I play by folder?
Any modified htc music app for that purpose?

I would create your own playlists with the Names of the genres you are using.
You can also add sources from DropBox etc this could be a good idea if you want to keep the space on your device free for apps etc.
To do this, goto your music play, click the "Settings" top right corner and click "Add Music source"
Hope this helps my friend.

I had the same question like you. I Gave up and installed PowerAMP...
i use a program called. music folder player

Forget the dropbox thingy with our very limited 3G network in Lebanon (20 to 100mb per month), or else I would have used Tuneinradio in my car all the time
I think I will install a 3rd party app though I would have preffered to do it with the HTC music app

Okay, heres three options and I can't think of any other way for you to do it, I hope this is helpful.
1 - Obviously you could use another music player, such as WinAmp.
2 - Sort your music into the folders you want, get a file explorer (I Use ESFileExplorer) go on that, navigate to the folder, long press and then click "Music" that folder will then be loaded by itself into the music, Long winded I know but you can still use the stock app.
3 - Create playlists and just name the playlists by the folder.
2 is probably your best bet !
Thanks dude!
I will try playlist to begin with, if it's a pain in the as* I will install a good 3rd party app.
Btw which one is the best (music quality) and has lockscreen controls?

No worries mate
Tbh never used a third party music player, as in my opinion they are never as loud or clear as the stock. Perhaps that could be sorted if you know what to do with an equaliser, but I don't haha.
Couple of Suggestions that I know are good music players:
DoubleTwist - GirlFriend uses this, its free, very smart and sleek looking, and has many functions. Including the lock screen control you asked for. I'd take a look at this.
Player Pro - Looks very capable but never had an experience with it.
Also
WinAmp - Has been around for long time, before android even existed as it was a PC music player, hense the "Win" for "Windows"
I had a good look at PlayerPro, this could be a brilliant option for you, its got everything you've previously mentioned, playing by folder, lock screen controls. etc etc
Hi mate,
here's what I did on my HTC Desire X. You create a folder with a specific name where you put all your music and then in the Music app on HTC Android, you Search for that folder. It then shows up under Albums and you are able to play only the tracks contained in that Album/folder. For the folder names, they have to be somewhat unique, if you have a lot of music on your phone because otherwise it's gonna getm mixed up.
Hope it helps!
Since Sense 4+ we can use folders play in the HTC Music app
I just found an easy solution to the problem.
1. Organize all your songs on your phone under folders as you like
2. Connect your phone to a PC
3. Open Windows Media Player
4. Select all songs from one folder (on the phone) and add to Windows Media Player Playlist
5. Rename Playlist according to your preference
6. Save the playlist
7. Copy the playlist from your music folder on your PC and paste it on your phone in the Music folder
8. The playlist will now be available on your stock music player

[Q] Media player recognizing video files

Hi, I dont know if anyone else is facing this same issue. The music player seems to recognize all media files including video mp4 files, it happens on stock rom and also on custom roms i ran. It also includes other junk files like ringtones and so on. is there any way to limit the music player to recognize only valid mp3 files or play files only from a certain folder? ive also downloaded a few music players like Apollo and playerpro and they are also facing the same issue. Thanks for your help

your Music Player will show every playable file in your phone.
atleast I don't know If there is anyway to limit music player to only show mp3 files..
The Alternate way I can suggest u that
place all unwanted ringtones in a folder and create a file
Named as ".nomedia"(without quotes) in the same folder.
This can tell the music player that the folder having ringtones have no playable files in it.
And the player will not show these ringtones.
u can do the same for mp4 files.
